EVERYONE should be able to play the way they want? Yet most of you dont agree when others want to do speedruns, be elitist, or just like numbers, because thats not the playstyle YOU want them to play?

I agree you can go ahead organising speedruns and you can like numbers. I have seen plenty of requests in chat for a speed run and I skip those as I know it is not my cup of tea but I don’t go ahead telling them how wrong they are for doing it. And I fully understand you want people to bring some AR to certain levels of the fractals.

However, implementing a gear inspection has an impact on everyone in the game. Not just those wanting a speed run. What I have seen in previous MMOs that I played is that this group is benefiting from the inspection, while the others are left in the cold no longer being able to find a group. Because everyone will start to require certain things and that is simply because they can. Not because it is needed for what they want.

As it is you can still organise your speed runs, maybe not as efficiently as with an inspection, while others can still find parties.

Do you also have toy frames from the Wintersday event? You can craft a mini or endless tonics with them in the mystic forge. The other materials were drop of magic glue and wad of enchanted stuffing which were not account bound so can still be found on the TP. I think you best have a look at the wiki pages of this game.

Edit: I found some extra info, you only need them for the toys, not for the endless tonics. They only require the other ingredients (toy frame, glue and wads with some dust).

Yes, it should be implemented.

But it should also be optional, players who desire to do so should have the option to prevent others from inspecting their gear.

It wouldn’t make much of a difference, because you will still not be invited into a party when you hide your gear.

How about this, have a gear inspect that shows the name, skin, and preview options for the gear, but doesn’t show the stats…

Um….FIXD! Now lets implement it and move on.

That would actually be nice when I want to see where someone got an item from. I usually ask them, but they sometimes happen to be afk.

It does not suit this game. This game is designed with the idea of brining the community closer together and not splitting it up. You can see this back with the removal of kill steals and node steals. Next to splitting up the community it would make it unable for a lot of players to play the way they want to. Because it would mostly, if not only, impact the PUG part of the game. Guilds would not even worry about it, atleast mine wouldn’t. So it would impact players who do not want to or cannot commit to a guild, but do want to do a dungeon run. Next to the requests for level and classes there will be requests for gear while they want that run to gear up. And it would become the new standard. For them it would be near impossible to create a group willing to run with them. We have seen that in the history of MMOs. Even though it is not needed, people would require it from you just because they can.

And to be honest, for this game gear is so unimportant. I always have to smile at those players who think that gear in this game is a big thing for being able to finish a dungeon succesfull. Speed runs are completed thanks to good execution, not thanks to having an exotic instead of a rare item equipped.

Oops, My Guild Died While I Wasn't Looking

It is hard to build a guild from the ground, but doable if you keep fighting for it. I did it once in Rift while my old-guildies were still playing WoW. In the end they moved over and this time we moved together.

I just don’t understand one thing. Why not reward people who put in extra effort already? I mean, if they contribute to your guild by creating events or take care of the website etc. (just examples) why have them on the same level membership as the rest? It seems natural for them to put in some extra effort compared to others. I understand that in your and mine view everyone is equal in a guild as a guild needs its members as much as a guild leader. However, by recognizing the effort put in and promoting them to an officer or veteran or whatever you want to call it rank they are more likely to keep doing it. It also makes it visible for the members who they can turn to when they have questions as those people seem to know the guild quite well. That way the organisation in your guild grows organically. It is what I did when I build up a guild from the ground.

As a “new” small guild you will have a lot of people coming and leaving, no matter what your purpose is. During this phase when events don’t keep running due to lack of the guild master the guild will die. Try to be able to delegate tasks and have people who can take over when you are busy as early as possible to keep it as steady as you possibly can. I understand you have a difficulty finding those people, but I think they might already be there if you have a group of 50 members. It is just a matter of recognizing their efforst and “rewarding” them for it with a rank and the chance becomes bigger for them to step up and do it. You can also give them more buttons to click in the guild (like inviting, kicking etc.) so that when you are not around the group can still be managed. They might be hesitant to do this, so it is a good idea if they can reach you (via mail?) to discuss things they see with you while you don’t have to be in the game all the time. And if you run a website you might consider promoting them there to moderator or administrator depending on your needs.

Next to that I discuss guild issues with our members. When they are aware of the direction I want the guild to be heading and what is expected of them, they will have more patience and some might step up as it is more clear to them how they can contribute.

I hope this will help you getting the guild going. Sounds like you had/have a nice guild and are willing to let others have an impact on it. Just not sure on how to go around it. My proposal might also not be your way of doing things, but it is meant as an option to be considered.

Which is slightly ironic as Pac Man was designed with female gamers in mind. I read somewhere a long time ago that the designer thought about what women would like and came up with food! So he came up with pizza and cakes.

Being a woman myself and reading that article it really felt like mars vs venus once again .

Confused about monthly achievement "tiers"

When you have finished your daily that part of the UI will be replaced with the monthly. In your hero panel you can see how many tiers there are, but not what is required in total.

Is the monthly too hard?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Esya.3427

Esya.3427

Again, it’s only the pure WvW players that, for some reason that is really beyond me, are forced to do something they wouldn’t do anyway, to get that monthly. If it would be that way for all players that they would have to do something they wouldn’t normally do, I would have no reason to complain. But as it stands it is, and was with most of the latest monthlies, always the case that it’s the WvW players who are forced to do something they wouldn’t have done otherwise. And it is just this ongoing inequality that frustrates me.

While I understand your concerns, this part is just not true. Previous monthlies often (if not all) had WvW kills as a part of them. People “were forced” to go into WvW for those if they wanted to finish the monthly. Not everyone has WvW as part of their playstyle. Many never finished the monthly for this reason. So while you have those concerns, they are not limited to WvW players.

My only concern is that I have to salvage more items in just one month then I did in 5 whole months. Buying salvage kits to salvage an item I could sell mean a big monetary loss for me.

Or you sell them and buy white items for vendor price + 1 copper on the TP in return? Still a bit of a monetary loss, but not as big anymore.

I hope they will do more with the current home instances we have at the moment. Though it is nice to have a quaggan in my pond, there is no reason for me to go there as nothing is going to change anymore as my story is finished. It would be nice if I could still have a direct impact for further development of this instance.

I am aware that this might not be the housing as used in other games, but at the moment the home instances do feel as a waste of effort. And it might be interesting to have a different home system compared to other games.

-Exploration (like the temple in Plains of Ashford that you need to go into via a portal)
-Snowball fight (too bad the snow in LA is gone at the moment, but it might return later)
-Bingo (had people post 3 numbers on the forum and then rolled a 20-sided dice)
-Hide and Seek (we did it with everyone ungrouped, about 3 people hiding in Divinity’s Reach (don’t use instances as those are loaded personal) and have them /sleep or /sit so you could see when you got close as the city is very big)

Also we start guild meetings by consuming all karma buffs you can get from guild influence in order to boost the karma in the jugs. About all our members actually save them up for those meetings.

1. I don’t know, maybe someone else can answer this.

2. Fractals of the Mist. A dungeon designed to challenge level 80 characters which progresses in difficulty the more times you do it. I would not worry about this yet.

3. For tanking you mainly want to look at toughness and vitality. However, if you did not already do so also learn to dodge and block big attacks as the dynamic combat offers a lot of survivability if played out well.

4. It is a combination of skills. For example if an elementalist puts a field of fire on the ground and a ranger shoots arrow through it, those arrows become burning arrows. There is extra info in the tooltip of the skill (combo finisher).

5. With an update it is always like that on a forum. People don’t like change in general. It will settle down again with time.

Beginner looking for a guild

Hello Caramel,

I hope you don’t mind me shortening your name a little. I think our guild could be a fit for you. By now all members are level 80, but don’t mind helping out other players. This includes running lower level dungeons again for someone who needs them or jumping to your map to help with a skill challenge. Our members but one are all 18 and up with most having a daytime job. So during daytime it can be a bit quiet.

We organise weekly dungeon runs and WvW runs without attendance obligations, outside those nights a lot of dungeons are being done. Next to that we organise a monthly guild event where we do something fun.

You can find a bit more info on our website: modernfamily.enjin.com . You will notice we play on Desolation.

We are currently replacing a few inactive members who have stopped playing the game. Apart from one member everyone is over 18 with ages going up to 48. And our home is on the Desolation server.

We organise weekly dungeon and WvW runs, with no obligations for attendance. Outside those weekly nights a lot of dungeons runs are done when people feel like going (about daily). On top of that we organise monthly social guild events.

Then when someone logs in this “unknown” gets replaced with the character and account information. So a few weeks after a server restart you get a good idea who is no longer playing.

We are a 30 member guild and keep the roster that size in order for people to get to know eachother better. Apart from 1 member everyone is above the age of 18 and if I have to guess I think the average age is somewhere close to 30.

We are currently looking to replace a few members who have stopped playing the game. We organise weekly dungeon and WvW runs, without any obligations to attend. Outside those a lot of dungeon runs are being done. When we run a dungeon we take pride in helping eachother through and not in finishing it as fast as possible. Also once a month we organise a guild meet up that can be attended by all level characters and we try to do an activity without splitting up in teams of 5. Last night we went to do an open world dungeon for example.

We are Modern Family, a guild on the Desolation [EU] server with a roster of 30 members that is looking to replace 2 members who have stopped playing. We keep our roster at 30 members in order for people to get to know eachother. The majority of our members are well over 18 years old with a daytime job, so most activity is during the evenings, during the days it can be a bit quiet. We organise weekly dungeon and WvW runs, but the main focus is on PvE/dungeon runs. Once a month we get together to boost our drops and jugs of karma and do a fun social activity that everyone can join. This is in a nutshell what we can offer. You might find a bit more information and our rules on our website: http://modernfamily.enjin.com .

We prefer our new members to be over 18 years old. We are casual friendly, but we do expect our members to log in a few nights each week. All level characters are welcome and we do not require you to attend any of the above mentioned guild events when you don’t want to.

If it sounds like our guild would be a good fit for you feel free to send me a PM here on the forums or send me a tell in game.

It just irks me that people complained constantly about a lack of endgame content and then when extra endgame items appear along with a new, complex endgame dungeon and another endgame area then all they do is howl that the game is pandering to traditional MMO concepts.

Different people.

Take away these “endgame items” (and the promise to crank out more every few months) and all of the complaints would go away. Nobody’s actually upset by the idea of playing the Fractals, just the way its rewards trample over the entire rest of the game.

This I think is a major misunderstanding about the patch. Ofcourse the dungeon is going to reward you with better items the higher level you do, as stated at different locations. But the ascended items we do not fully understand in how many ways they can be obtained. For now they are adding a lot of crafting recipes in order for us to craft some and they even said ascended items would be added to WvW in the future. You can still discuss the power creep, however I think that having to do the dungeon in order to get ascended items is a wrong picture of how things will be and takes away the sting from most of the discussions.

So to be honest I am with the OP. I also had questions about the new dungeon (how the level you would do was going to be determined), but it turns out that for the friends I play with it won’t be a problem as the highest level available will be the one of the person with the lowest level obtained so everyone can play together. Also you can pick a level lower for the dungeon than your current progress. Ofcourse elitist PUG players will ask for a certain level, but I also have already seen requests to link gear. They will remain the same in their attitude so nothing new there.

Then there is only a power creep to be discussed for which you are not dependant on the new dungeon.

So i guess i’d better start Leveling a Warrior or Guardian if i ever want to do the Dungeons… Shame

I would suggest to find a guild to run dungeons with. Not only saves you from this frustration but also from other more general frustrations that PUG runs can bring.

To me it is funny to read all those opinions about what profession is horrible for dungeons, yet we (as in our guild) manage to finish runs with any of those professions. I think I even did a run with 3 rangers present as they are quite popular in our guild, but also engineer, mesmer, necromancer and whatnot. According to some we would have the worst group set-up at times, but as long as people know what they are doing you are fine. And one taking a toilet break or having a phone ringing delays you more than that extra DPS another profession might be able to bring.

What I get from this discussion is that guilds who applied a “got to catch them all” and “invite all” recruitment style are suffering and guilds who did not are not (quite a few small guilds reported to be successful including myself). This is no different from other games, it is only more visible now due to how the roster is set up with the multi-guild feature.

You do not have to spend half the time on your other character. You can split up the time the way you want to and if you have so much fun on mesmer you could even split it up more like 75/25. However, while mesmer might be weak in PvE compared to other professions, having fun is more important in my opinion. We have a mesmer in our group every now and then and we still manage to complete runs. Specially someone who masters a profession really well will always be good to have around. What is best depends on your opinion about what is best, to me having fun is a very deciding factor. Some get fun out of playing a certain profession that they love (like you) while others will change with each buff/nerf hammer that comes around.

As soon as Anet updates the guild interface and we can see the inactive members and days since login I’d be more than happy to. I can only enforce the rules so far without kicking someone who may have just logged in on irregular times.

I use server resets for this. When a server restart rolls out all info is wiped from the guild roster and everyone becomes “unknown”. Then after a few weeks you can see who did still not log in and have those removed.

This doesn’t promote helping one guild at all. This only promotes the larger guilds, who already HAVE all the upgrades and influence they could stand, and still…the lesser guilds struggle to get members, because they have to force themselves to recruit just anyone in hopes of getting members, and all the while, the new people see the lack of..representing members, or lack of people, and ‘shop around’ for a new guild.

This is the worst tactic of doing it. Recruiting any member just to get numbers up will cause more harm than it does good (will cause even less loyalty). You better start with a small roster of loyal players and build on that than a big roster that is not loyal. If it is a rule that people should represent, then enforce it. Reduce your roster to those representing and then start recruiting people looking for a guild like yours (and not just inviting everyone to get numbers up). It might be a bit slow, but otherwise your guild will most likely remain as what it is now or implode.

The multi-guild system & why guilds are pointless.

The only guilds I’ve heard of guild chat being existent (in game or in a VOIP server) are the guilds with 400+ members with at least 60% activity. Anything short of that and you have players either not representing you or not paying attention at all.

This is simply not true. We are a guild with a roster of 30 members where guildchat is active. We stay this size on purpose. I never have to ask someone to represent us other then after them creating a new character and they might forget or when guild bugs pop up and they are fighting with that button.

Due to my experiences I cannot say the system is bad. I see how it is beneficial for players who want to group with their friends on one side but also want to join a guild that does dungeon runs and another guild that is doing WvW. We however will just not invite those players into our guild. That is their and our choice. There are always people looking to join only 1 guild.

If anything the system makes it more clear and flexible when a member does not really fit a guild like ours. This can make it a struggle for you, but I rather see people find a guild that suits them best than having many members who are not totally happy with our guild. In the end you will have a guild full of people with a similar idea about the kind of guild they want to be in.

I loved it but would also like to leave a bit of criticism.

To have weapons being able to be crafted for expensive materials and then later have them drop from a chest and on TP for the cost way below the crafting price is a sure way to make someone angry who crafted the weapon (not me personally, I was still in the process of collecting the mats). I do like that weapons and items are available to the majority of the playerbase, but to change the drop rules of items during an event without information about it does not only good but also harm. Either stick with a way of getting items into the game throughout the event or provide information so people can make an informed choice.

Other then that I really loved the event and was really surprised by how much content was developed for it. I hope you can live up to my expactation for the next event!

I see it is in the OP, but think it is not used enough: when you find yourself frustrated by the group (either due to chat or big norn/charr being present), go back to the lobby and enter a different overflow.

P.S. – Anyone who says that having a lot of huge characters on top of you (or on top of the platforms you’re trying to reach) makes no difference should be forced to spend the next 6 months surrounded by a mob of maximum-size charr in bright pink armor.

Maybe that is why I am used to it. My boyfriend plays a charr in bright pink armor.

If you really want to get something don’t rely on RNG. In case you happen to get a second you can always sell it.

The norn or charr were not more distracting to me than the other models, as I don’t look at my character when doing the jumping puzzle. I focus on my camera point of view I found out. However, people running in front of you who fall down or being chased by others did distract me a lot at times. I would like the option to hide other player models.
