No, they cannot read guildchat when they are not representing.

Making your guildmembers aware of this feature helps a lot. I regularly check the roster and whisper those who forgot to click the represent button after creating a new character. But we also had a chat about it in guildchat how your proposed option would be much better. I think the majority will join one guild and forget about representing it afterwards when creating a new character. By simply bringing it to their attention it is also something they started to check themselves. I would love to see your option implemented or a pop-up when you create a new character if that character also wants to represent this guild. Most do want to represent the guild for the guildchat and the access to guildbank and the other perks, so don’t feel bad for asking them.

I will see if I can channel his attention to here, but at the moment he has quite a glass cannon build as far as I can judge. Anyways, he should have a better knowledge about the traits and skills than me. You could also post/browse on the engineer forum with this question and see if people have ideas for builds.

The long lockout when you switch attunements is puzzling as a design choice

why is there a cooldown for any kind of swapping?

to punish someone for being good? O.o

if you could swap… means the other guy can too.

To challenge someone who is good. If there is no CD on the swapping there is nothing to plan and take into account. I believe that having a CD makes it more challenging than easier. You have to think if you want to swap for the penalty it might provide rather than swapping around blindly.

Well, the things I would not take into consideration when chosing a class are:

- It is overpowered or underpowered. Buffs and nerfs come and go and this balance keeps moving.

- How many other people play a class. This also relates to the first point, as quite a few go with the flavour of the month. But in the end when you enjoy playing a class there is no need to be bothered by the fact that others play it as well.

So I think engineer and elementalists are your best bet as they are versatile. As you don’t want to be a dime in a dozen for now I would say engineer. They are very versatile with all the toolkits they can equip unlocking new weapon skills. I do not play one myself (well, level 9 but too low level to give solid feedback), but what I see from my boyfriends engineer is that you can go so many ways with it.

Which order to go with?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Esya.3427

Esya.3427

Yes, there are armor sets with different stats depending on the order. Wiki has information about them all! For example at the bottom of this page: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Order_of_whispers

For the looks it is a bit harder to find information (so far found the Durmand Priory looks). But browsing around on the wiki will get you insight in the stats and browsing google images in the looks.

While I am against gold sellers, I do feel implementations that limit honest players are not a good idea. Gold sellers will always find a way to keep the spam coming your way, they will simply level to level 11 (in Rift they had to level out of the starting area). So the ones who suffer from things like those are the players and the spam usually won’t get any less.

Do we have to keep the mail when we report a gold spammer in game mail?

Monthly achievement and your ranged character

Well, atleast the achievement is going much faster now. I focus on hitting downed players instead of keeping my team alive. After finishing the monthly I will go back to support again. Thanks all for the tips. I still hope this is an item that can be looked into.

Esya.3427

I don’t know why, but I only seem to get kill credit and loot for a player if I stand there mindlessly shooting at them whilst they are downed. (If I try charge them for the execute, a melee player finishes it before I can do anything, I get nothing for the kill.)

I think this might be my best way to go for now, forgetting about heals and reviving until the monthly is done. I really hope this can be changed and looked at as a team effort. If you were there with your team, you should be rewarded as a team.

Thanks for the tip, I might have a look into that. But it should not be needed in my opinion. I mean, you down an enemy on your own, someone runs in and finishes him off and he gets the credit. I don’t think this achievement is working the way it should.

Monthly achievement and your ranged character

Am I the only one finding it hard to get the kill achievement in WvW for the monthly achievement? I play an elementalist with a staff, and while I understand I could go for daggers I think this is better for the team. As it is, I find myself running to a corpse to finish them, but they are already finished by my lovely melee team mates. While I think it is good they finish them off quickly before they rally, I can hardly get any progress on the monthly achievement. I would think killing them as a team, the kill counts for the team. Atleast that is what I would like to see. Something like a proximity check for example (maybe up the kills needed to compensate). I am just not sure if I am the only one who feels this way or others find it slightly frustrating as well?

Please add aoe looting. I think events and WvW become more fun if aoe looting would be implemented. At the moment it can be hard to see if you looted all corpses.

The things I would like to see added to this great game are:

1. Officer chat or player created chat channels.

2. Officer notes.

3. Language specific overflow (so no mixing English, French and German).

4. Being able to rotate between the people you last whispered with.

5. Show allies on the WvW map, not only when you are close to them. At the moment it shows the locations of where the battles are ongoing, but not how many of your allies are involved.

6. My own character listed the same as party members while being in a party. I like to have the healthbars and buffs together and not 4 of other people on the left and my own at the bottom (I like to play support).

Fair enough. And I agree with you that it is nice that the system is in place to begin with and I do appreciate that, it does lower the inconvenience by a lot. Just had an idea to improve upon from personal experience and from what I read in guildchat I wasn’t completely alone (though we could still be the minority ).

Because you don’t have a problem does not mean others don’t have a problem with it too. I do communicate globally at times, for me it is part of the fun to chat with the people I play with.

I do agree that exposure to other languages is beneficial, but I don’t think this has to be the place for that.

But I don’t understand why it is an issue… I mean, I’ve been on overflows as much as the next guy, and it’s not often that the majority isn’t English. But worst-case scenario, you’re just not chatting in “/map” for a few minutes. And this is such an issue to you, that you want the server architecture changing so that you can chat in /map for a little while. Doesn’t that seem a bit… I dunno, over-the-top?

If it would be a lot of work, yes that would be over the top. But I have no idea how the system is set up and if it could be easily implemented or not. As said in my previous post, I leave that up to the devs to judge as it might indeed need major changes in the architecture. But it could also be a software solution that could be quite easily implemented.

While you are not supposed to play there, you are placed there. I am happy it exists for the reasons you are mentioning zogrim, it is much better than not being able to login indeed. But I do think it can be improved upon.

Why are you guys so against it? Wouldn’t you prefer to play with people you can understand and who understand you when you are placed on an overflow server? Ofcourse I have no idea how much work this suggestion would cost, but I leave that up for the devs to judge as I am sure they can judge that much better than me. But the idea in itself does not sound like something you could be against to me.

To start: I did read the sticky at the top of this forum, but the link in there that would take you to the suggestion thread did not work for me.

Now to the suggestion: Make overflow language specific

As it is when you play on a European homeworld, when you enter overflow you can be placed on any other European homeworld. While I have nothing against other Europeans, it is less fun when you cannot communicate with the players around you. You become the asocial mute. So mixing English, French and German speaking homeworlds while we picked those to play in our preferred language is limiting our fun. It would be better to have 3 overflow system in place for those 3 language groups.

Is Elementalist inferior at lvl 80?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Esya.3427

Esya.3427

Opinions and likes differ. I have an elementalist as my main and am enjoying it very much. It might just not fit your playstyle. What is best for PvP also depends on what you are able to master best and enjoy the most. Having fun makes you better at things. For me an elementalist is easier to master than your said necromancer.

The disadvantage I do find on elementalist is as mentioned before in this thread, even though you can swap between attunements, you cannot swap between weapons during combat. This way you cannot swap between support staff and other weapon sets for 1v1 or 2v2 where staff is really a disadvantage.

Remember this is a game that is not really great for glass cannons. The dungeons and pvp will show you this. It might be fun for solo play, but everywhere else you will go splat soon. So look at your playstyle, what you prefer and try to find a class and build that go with that.

If I want to heal

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Esya.3427

Esya.3427

Hawke I build my elementalist as “healer/tank”. Traits in the earth line and scepter + focus as weapons for armor, blind, removing conditions and and invulnerable ability while attuned to earth seems to work great. I am a sylvari so use the take root elite skill that spawns mortar plants, but also gives a few seconds of invulnerability.

When combining with the water trait line you can get some nice passive healing going on with each cast and vitality is a nice bonus when going tanky.

When going to healing I simply swap to staff and can switch some utility skills if needed.

Esya.3427

Modern Family is a small guild with a strong community. We are an international and social group with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. We keep the roster small/medium on purpose so that people get to know eachother a little bit better than in a big guild and aim for approximately 40 members (we still want the roster to support guild runs). We can be found on Desolation (EU). We are looking for a few more mature members to strengthen our roster.

If this sounds like a guild for you, you can find more information on:

In case you are interested in joining it is best to send me a whisper in game.
