I solo 90% of the time. I just accept some things can’t be done solo and skip them. It’s really no big deal, and the new content is free so… thing is, my normal haunts have the same and new faces there so maybe alike minds etc..

If they release solo content, dungeons, etc.., lions arch would have bodies all over as some would throw themselves off the viewpoints lol

No more Tetsusaiga’s please.. Can we have sets of armor that look good on all races not only Norn and Charr? If they make Ascended armor with stats above the current levels, they will nerf the crap out of everything else and give ascended armor the stats we currently have.

What amazes me the most here is no reply from Anet/NcSoft. It’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out. Another gaming company is under investigation for pushing players to spend real money and possibly using deceptive practices. I sense new rules and regulations coming in the future for all online games.

Anyways I’m out. Good luck to all of the those that have not gotten a ticket, etc.. /swordsalute

Ran my guardian all evening probably opened, another 60 to 70 coffers, no ticket. Bought 80 coffers, used my thief with +100% magic find, got another ticket. Some will deny it, I think it helped. Or they adjusted it in todays update.

On a hunch, I tested a theory voiced here. Namely the benefit of Magic Find. My thief runs the Pirate sigil/rune/thing build and has high mf. I then ate a dragon cupcake and added 30% mf, so all told I was around +100% magic find, with armor, weapons, addons etc.. And I bought 100 coffers. Guess what? I got a ticket. It was number 97 to be exact. I don’t know that MF makes a difference, just reporting what happened. Previously I had been using my Guardian which has no +magic find.

Thing is, mf is supposed to only benefit us with mob drops..?? Could it have considered the coffer a mob? While I was happy to get it, this in no ways removes my ire over how crazy it is to get a silly ticket. So many feel left out and are walking away it’s not funny. Say what you will, but Retail 101 is the customer is always right. Without them you go broke.

It’s not Anet, it’s NcSoft. After some reading online they are calling the shots now. I doubt they care if we stay or go. Apparently this “Gambling” model is common in Asian gaming. I don’t think they will change how they do things to please us. I may still play but as stated earlier, I will NEVER spend another dime of real money in game again. Period.

I have a feeling these skins will be added to the BLTC after the event. Something like “Missed the chance to get your favorite Dragon skin? Well don’t worry we added them for a limited time to the BLTC, hurry while they last!” . They will cost probably 600 to 1000 gems each. I would not be surprised by this, at all.

As for buying anything in the future with real world money, I’ll build up my in game gold and trade it in for gems.

MMO’s are built (sadly) on the premise of Elitism. The needs of the few outweigh the needs of the many or the one. Gaming companies believe we are narcissistic basement dwellers that will be a good little Pavlovian pup, and salivate on cue. They offer the medium (game) and the stimulous (reward) and then the hurdles you need to complete to obtain said reward. It’s the Populous syndrome. The developers are Deities and we are their subjects. They made us, they can break us, and we have no voice, or worth. They want what we covet most, our gaming soul, and undying admiration. We are to pay tribute without questioning their reasons. Or we will be struck down, and left behind. Rendered powerless, made insignificant, and of little or no value. Sound dramatic, all gaming companies are 2 jolt colas from anarchy.

You see, stay or go, at this point you bought the game, and they have received your tribute. If you will not spend more they ignore your pleas. If you do continue to spend they ignore your praise, it’s simple really, play or go away. All MMO’s have PoGA inscribed where their hearts used to be.

The best explanation of how I perceive developers think would be this, if you ask for a cool weapon they make it cold to the touch. If you mention a lower level weapon has better stats then a higher level one they will reduce the stats on the lower level item. Basically it’s like making a perfect deal with the devil, you will never come out on top. Or better still “Strange game, the only winning move is not to play..”

RNG? You mean Random Number generator? Sorry not up on the terminology. I am so tired of some programmers saying they have a fool proof random number routine. Random is a concept, once you write some code to emulate IT IS NOT RANDOM! All the code can do is occasionally produce a different result. Experts have tried to hammer this home for a very long time and gaming companies seem to think they know better, than the people that created the programming languages.

Hall of Monuments Questions

Evon Skyfyre.9673

I have been meaning to post this for a long time and now I am. LOL

When they announced EOTN, there was a big hoopla about achieving things in GW1 and how they would pay off in GW2. We could show our armors from GW1 in GW2, our special weapons etc. Well we received skins to use, and the mini pets achieved as promised. The skins were a nice touch as on level weapons would be used and forgotten all to quickly.

My questions are as follows:

1) Why is it just ruins? What happened to the statues of past accomplishments, weapons, mini pets, and companions?

2) We were told we could share our achievements via the HOM with others. Other than 4 or 5 titles how do we do this?

3) Are there any plans for a future update to have them appear as promised or is this another game co. promise that didn’t make it live?

So is crafting worth it yet?

in Crafting

Posted by: Evon Skyfyre.9673

Evon Skyfyre.9673

This is the first game I’ve played where crafting for profit is not really worth the effort. Let me clarify this statement. In other games you could sell something crafted (armor/weapons) for prices like the legendary items go for. I doubt that can happen here so far. No critical success, no chance to make something better than originally decided by the recipe, etc. I do see some worth in consumables, and jewelry. I have mastered crafting in every other mmo that offered it that I have played. I threw my hands up here. Sold my mats and banked the cash.

That said there is worth in gathering and selling mats, this would make you think there must be worth in crafting. Well since you can sell stuff right away to the BLTC and not wait for players to buy it, you can make money in game, from the sale of materials.

I have a feeling crafting was an after thought here. The old system in GW1 was more fun, you needed to gather special mats and then go to the npc and have it made. I miss that system, but who knows some here may really like the crafting system. To me it’s muddled and poorly implemented.

Sorry Anet, I love the game, but crafting.. D- must do better. I liked the system in SWTOR, my companions ground out the levels lol.

P.S. Crafting in any game is user supplied content. They made the hall, you supply the band and dancers. It’s something to do. If you like it, go for it.

Why exp'd MMO players have multiple toons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Evon Skyfyre.9673

Evon Skyfyre.9673

It should be mentioned, playing alts after a skill change on your main, is good if for no other reason than forgetting the old way said skills worked. A more extreme way is what I have opted to do in the past when a barrage of skill changes across the board made whatever game I was playing, unpleasant. I avoided all the tumult by taking a break for a few months. Drastic, but effective. When I came back I had forgotten how things were and had to get accustomed to my class etc.. again. Like I said drastic. It makes more sense to simply play another class and move on. I have played GW1 since launch. I enjoyed how pvp had it’s own skillset. I’ve heard talk they are working on a similar setup for GW2. I hope they can, pvp has ruined pve in far too many games as is.

All that aside, play whatever and however you wish. I simply stated what I, and other 1%‘rs have done It was intended to quell the ire I see rising in game about changes, classes being OP’d etc.. Nonsense to be sure, but it seems they can effect change sometimes.

Why exp'd MMO players have multiple toons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Evon Skyfyre.9673

Evon Skyfyre.9673

Simple, as games progress, and complaints come in, it’s good to “Hedge your bet” by having fall back characters. After the Nerf bat is swung, it can take a long time if ever to gain back lost ground, skills, abilities, etc.. For example, I adore my thief, but I know the flood of complaints from PVPr’s will result in changes sooner or later. I’ve played mmo’s for too long to think otherwise.

If you have one character/class/prof, pick another or two and level them. You’ll be glad you did.

Of course there are many other reasons for multiple characters, but this is by far the best advice I can give anyone new to this or any MMO. With multiple characters, you won’t get bored as easily, and as they say variety is the spice of life.

New mechanic in games? I could “Cloak” in SWG (Star wars Galaxies) and it launched in 2003 or so. That said “Stealth increases depth and skill” is a more appropriate title. It increases YOUR skills, combating it’s use, and the complexity & depth of combat.

Something to be remembered. GW1 was NOT an MMO. It did not have open world. There is going to be a learning curve on AN’s part, with dealing with more players in one area at one time. They have sever load and population load issues, etc already. In my opinion if they let these events run, they would have server issues, plus the game loses the “Live” feel. Things happen in a linear fashion. To keep things flowing they must begin and end. It’s no fun to miss them, but it simply must be as it is.

Crash Recovery and locks?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Evon Skyfyre.9673

Evon Skyfyre.9673

I just found out the hard way the game doesn’t have crash recovery. I was completing a long storyline quest, and the game crashed. Now I get to start over. No fun. I also noticed when doing the last mission “Victory or Death” on my main, a while back, there are no “locks”.

For those not understanding my references, “Crash Recovery” would have brought me back to the point I was at in the Storyline mission, or very near to it, depending on save points. I would have no need to start it all over again. “Locks” refers to a dungeon game mechanic that would let you advance as far as time permitted and start again within a certain amount of days from where you left off. Not everyone can put 2 or 3 hours into a dungeon crawl, or they wipe a lot and it takes longer. Locks are a jumping off point. Pretty much any MMO I’ve played has had these.

That said, any plans or discussion about them being added or planned? I think GW1 had crash recovery.

Please consider adding at least 5 more servers and allow free transfers like before.

New to the world of MMO's?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Evon Skyfyre.9673

Evon Skyfyre.9673

I’ve played them for longer than I care to remember. And I’ve learned a few things that pretty much all MMO games seem to have, and do, etc…

MMO rules of the road..

1) BS is the most popular profession in any game. Take anything you hear in game with a grain of salt. Like ALT-F4 makes you stronger, etc..
2) If you think a mission is too hard, telling others will generally result in being told one or all of the following:
a) Your computer is sub par.
b) Your skills are sub par.
c) Everyone else did the same mission without weapons, blindfolded etc.. See rule number 1.
3) MMO’s are a mixed batch of players. Some helpful, some spiteful, some extremely bored, or lonely, or both. Remember you’re in a world of people using personas and running around with deadly weapons. Don’t expect too much from them and you won’t be disappointed.
4) If you think a high level weapon is not as good as a lower level weapon, they will reduce the stats of the lower level weapon.
5) Draw your own conclusions. If you like the game, play. (Ignore rumors) If not go away. No one likes a complainer. Especially gaming companies. Sound harsh? It’s one of the undeniable truths of gaming.
6) Find positive, like minded players to group with. Go slow, don’t tell them your life’s story and enjoy your time in game. It’s an escape, if we wanted to deal with reality, we wouldn’t be here.
7) My favorite rule has to be this. A female character doesn’t mean the player behind them is female. It also doesn’t mean they aren’t. Does it matter? If you want a date try one of the many dating sites online. This doesn’t mean you can’t meet someone, it just means it shouldn’t be your main focus.
8) You’re in a faceless medium. Stating your opinions is like dropping sugar on the kitchen floor and turning off the lights. All the Trolls come out and will spend hours and hours spouting their rhetoric , so you’ve been warned. Tin foil hats are sold in the lobby. Of the games I’ve played, the Guild wars players tend to be good natured and easy going. However opinions vary.
9) If a change in the game makes you physically upset to the point of anger, you need to walk away. Your favorite skills we be nerfed, your best combos will be ruined, it’s called balance. Which any Gamer with a fair amount of gaming exp, will tell you is a myth. Often sought after, never realized. There are players in any game that can out think the developers in their sleep, and they will always devise ways to beat something. Then the gaming companies go nuts trying to counter their way of doing things. Get used to it, or forget mmo’s.
10) Your gaming experience may change… Most of us know this phrase. It basically boils down to the gaming company can do whatever they want to the game, your character, your skills, and you have no grounds for being upset, because you’ve been warned. The game you bought, will not be the same in 6 months. It’s not a PC game that is the same always.
11) If you like the game you’re a Fanboi, if you don’t you’re a Troll. This rule never seems to change sadly.
12) If the game has a flaw, and it will require fixing, it’s easier to remove the reason for doing whatever, which results in or triggers the flaw. i.e. If a skill triggers a flaw in game, it’s easier to remove the skill than to fix the flaw. O.o
13) Games are not a democracy, they are a dictatorship. Gaming companies have the final say. It’s their creation, their child, and no one likes advice on how to raise their kids.

I’m sure I missed some rules, but these come to mind a lot.

Hey it could be worse, you could have to buy your bullets and arrows etc..

Victory or Death, the end to a long road..

in Personal Story

Posted by: Evon Skyfyre.9673

Evon Skyfyre.9673

If you had asked me halfway through, what I thought about “Victory or death” I probably would not have had much to say that was pleasant or worth repeating. This mission was a long and difficult one. I tried a few days earlier, and 2 players rage quit. It happens. I was talking about it in Open chat today and another player was echoing his dismay at finding a group to complete it. Story mode doesn’t offer much in the way of reward if you are repeating it. Even the final loot bags you get for your first run through were a mixed batch of blue and green level armor. I’m lucky, I know how final battles go and I was decently geared. A pocket full of coin is good to, as is food, repair canisters, and a lot, of patience.

But I digress. We were chatting, and another voice chimed in saying she too, was having no luck forming a group. Well, there we had it. 3 of the much needed 5, were ready to go. but 5 is recommended, surely 3 would not do. So we talked we hung out a bit, we waited while one helped another player acquire a skill point. We then talked to another player that was nearby and he echoed, he too needed to do the mission. We had 4, one more to go. But sadly no one spoke up. The guard in our group said “Let’s do this”. We looked at each other, and another said “We can try and see what happens”. See what happens? Face down the Lord of the Elder Dragons, Zaitan with less than a full group? Folly, a fools errand, we set off through the portal. Surely to our doom… We fought and fell, laughed and I’m sure cursed those on high pulling the strings. But we moved forward, one core, two cores, and on we went, past Titans and Champions, through tunnels and swamps, foulness and filth, until we stood on the deck of a wondrous machine. We soared through the air, but our spirits were dashed all to quickly. Giants throwing poison and more.. we made it through, somehow. We fell again and again, we laid on the deck and laughed while the learned one of the bunch read how to do that part of the mission. Me ask directions? Nevah!

We gained ground, the last one fell. Hazzah! But wait, we had more to face. A glutton that could not be filled. He ate, and he ate, and he ate, and wanted more.. We saw him finally fall, what I did on his grave, will not pass for flowers. I wiped off my daggers, let my pistols cool, and we moved on. We soon found ourselves airborne again. Now facing Elder Dragons, hurling more poison, and Risen, wave after wave, we fought, we fell (are you sensing a theme yet?) , and finally the last renegade lizard fell. Now, he swooped in from on high, a voice cried out “Here he comes, ZAITAN!!” The rest is a blur, fire and blood, poison and flame, until he fell, he finally, fell. The long road was at it’s end, and so it would seem was our journey.

Words cannot describe how the battle was, you must experience it for yourself. As long as it is, as seemingly unfair and unforgiving as it is. The spoils be darned, the rewards be dashed, you must see it through.

Tankanasan, Christine, Grider, we made it. 4 battle weary warriors made it. It took a long time, but we saw that Dang Lizard fall.

Oh in case you’re wondering who this is, I also go by Ting

Tried “Death or Victory” last night (Kill Zaitan) and bugs aside (falling below the ship and running around in mid air.. lol) a casual group won’t finish it (we had to stop after 2 rage quit). This makes it even more impossible for some to even hope to ever see it, and finish the storyline. Anet’s path is clear reduce the difficulty. I don’t care if they take all loot drops out, and only give us the final rewards. I have played MMO’s since SWG launched. I know my class, and can solo a lot of things groups fail at. I’m no newbie, I just realize they need to reduce the difficulty of the this quest line. Especially when they have no “Lock” system to allow you to leave and rest and go back to your previous point in the mission. To start over completely is truly ridiculous. Hell, even LOTRO has this and crash recovery.

They probably started out having better rewards. But since pay to win unbalances the game, they changed them. And now are stuck with them as is.

Too bad we can’t drop them in then wild like you could in GW1. IT’d be fun to make a trash heap of them lol, even if just for screenshots

Speculation runs rampant. GW2 has said how many units they have sold. With no monthly fee, they will claim them all as active subs. No game online will tell you they are doing bad, they will say all is going well and they have great things coming in the near future. Even if they are going to shut down the next day. That’s the nature of mmo’s etc. Basically it comes down to a simple truth, if you like the game. Play. If not go away. Sounds trite, but it’s the simple truth we all must face, ask ourselves and answer. I enjoy it, sure lately there are lots of issues, but I think they are growing pains. The game is popular. When ESOL comes out, we’ll see some drop off in players. And then some will,. return and life goes on.

Right, let’s start figuring things out. Have any of the people posting here, tried guesting on another server with a lower population and seen if they have the same issues? If so, please make that known here. I tested and then moved to a lower population server, and a great many of my issues were reduced. I know, I know, you don’t want to move, you shouldn’t have to. but compared to not playing at all … I think this needs to be a real consideration, especially when we know some servers are loaded with players almost 24/7. And if that wasn’t bad enough, they are offering gw2 at 30% off this weekend. Which will bring in more players, that will flock to busy servers like ants to sugar..

So try it, post your results. If it makes no difference then make that known also.

Side note: When my friends and I played gw1 we learned to log out completely and restart our computers before doing a dungeon, etc.. Especially if we had been in game a while. This helped us not have tons of lag. Now you might be saying, “Yeah so, this is gw2..?!” Well they used the same engine and just modified it. I’m willing to bet some old issues are still there.

Worth a try anyways.

Angel, if your server shows as very high, try guesting on a medium server and see how you do. It helped me..

I fixed my lag issues (well sorta) . I had to move to a medium pop server, and run the game in xp compatibility mode (on windows 7). Otherwise it crashes every 5 minutes or less. It’s not the best work around but it works. I can play for long periods of time, even join in against a world boss and not be frozen. In addition I disabled QoS on my router and in windows (not sure if that helped but I wanted to be complete in my steps).

I also ran the repair.. As I said, it’s doable.. but only just..

Anet, you really need to step up and be a bit more visible/vocal on this. Every game has problems, it’s how they deal with them, in a timely fashion, that sets them apart.

They believe in, “Don’t raise the bridge, lower the river”. They could spend hours fixing their mistakes, or remove the item that causes them. They always go the easy route. I wonder sometimes if they (the devs) ever write code after the game is out, or do they simply work within an interface like world builder?

To any and all wondering why Anet has not commented here, it’s simple. They can’t. I doubt very seriously if a developer is allowed to comment on these issues, as that would tell anyone considering the purchase of the game it has said issue, and make them wonder if their computer is up to it, would they need to spend alot on top of the purchase of the game etc. I have run into this in EVERY MMO I have played going back to SWG. The developers show what they feel needs fixing, and the “powers that be” shake their heads and say “How long til the next expansion?” They (PTB) know the issues exist, and it’s not that they don’t care, they are focusing on revenue. Besides whatever trickles in from gem sales etc, they get ZERO monthly income from the game. They have payroll to meet, bills to pay. And most importantly, investors to answer to. They won’t take excuses, they won’t wait. They want paid now. right now, as promised and Dwayna help them if they are late. You think Tony Soprano was tough, try making investors wait. I’d rather face Zaitan for real with a butter knife.

That said, I know all this, and I’m sick and tired of the same old thing happening. GW2 has the chance to be the most innovative, and popular MMO out, it can even nail WOW. They need to address the server issues. If they don’t, when a new, and shiny game comes out, the hard core players will leave, groups will no longer be compitent enough to face the tougher dungeons and alike and the game will go into decline.

But again MMO’s know all this, they want to make what they can, as fast as they can. GW2 is on the same path as every other game. And that is just sad.. GW1 went thru this, the game became an avatar driven chat program. People stood around in LA, and Spamadan and talked smack.

Did I hear correctly they used the same engine as GW1, and just modified it?

General exploration is fine, small groups are fine as well. However, events like the Frozen Maw etc.. I slow to a crawl and can barely move. I thought maybe it was just me but the others said the same thing. Melee was almost impossible. I had to forgo doing all the stages and just position my Guardian near the final boss and pray I wasn’t tossed back. Ranged (thief, engineer) were ok since I could do the same but still attack anything in range. I thought it was my video card and purchased a new one with 2g of ram etc, same problem. I’ve read GW2 sends calls to my cpu not my gpu so a new card was a waste. Hope they can fix this somehow, as is I have to pass on group events. I was fine from launch until recently. What changed?
