First thing to change is the terminology. In any other MMO what is being called a zerg here, would be called a RAID!
All they need to do is have the champs spawn after the mobs are wiped out and destroyed. So simple to fix.
Yesterday I was bounced out of events with so many dc’s. Then put into overflows. I basically gave up. I understand the issues, I hope Anet can get it together. I wish they would open up more servers. Guess it’s not in the budget. With a free play coming, I may not even login this weekend.
Very poor character/armor texture quality

Did you map to another area?
I received enough jugs for 5k or so total of karma. Whoopie..
It’s because the WvW Character Quality setting is set to Lowest.
Actually it’s set to medium.
I’ve made PARTIAL progress. Character model quality is set to medium, and so is textures. I see light and medium armor players fine, heavy … it shows the correct style but the colors, and textures look like a 3 year old painted them. So it’s some form of low res. substitute I guess.

I got a new PC with an i5 3570k and a gtx760 2GB vram and I can honestly say I only have about 30 FPS on Lion’s Arch but there’s absolutely no bottle neck on my system. The Vram doesn’t pass 1GB, the load on the graphics card doesn’t go over 70% and the CPU stays at 80%. I don’t have any problems with overclocking if it was bottlenecking my system, but nothing is pushed to the max and my fps are still crap! wtf is happening?
I’m really disappointed, I didn’t gain any increase in FPS from my old pc.
The graphics engine used for GW2 is a modified version of the one they used for GW1. It’s old, and it appears to suffer from code bloat. Anet refuses to admit it. IMHO, this legacy engine demands a higher end system just to run, not because of the use of better specs but because it’s so antiquated it cannot run on low end systems. It uses DX9, not Dx11 like most new mmo’s., etc..

I experienced similar issues for the past 24 hours. Everyone appeared to be wearing a white “cookie cutter” outfit based on the material type template…very annoying.
I used the information found at https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/FPS-and-Performance-based-issues-1 and followed the settings outlined there and my problem was fixed
Tried and everyone in LA has the same outfit still.

-umbra gpu
Forces the use of umbra’s GPU accelerated culling.
In most cases, using this results in higher cpu usage and lower gpu usage decreasing the frame-rate.
Seems to push cpu not gpu, how would that help? From what I’ve read the game leans towards over using the cpu instead of the gpu now. What am I missing?
I tried that, no joy..
I’d like a simple answer from Anet about the graphic issue due to the removing of culling. I was running fine prior to the update, now everyone looks the same. This is not a complaint. Is everyone looking basically the same (same outfits) working correctly and how the game will look from now on unless I build a new system?
I just need Anet to answer, so I have the final word. If filing a ticket is needed because it should be fixable, I’m willing to do that. I can’t justify building a new system when everything else I do is fine (work and play). Once I have the final word I can decide to stay or go.
I think I’ll go out on my thief and throw dagger storm in every mob lol
You don’t need to group, you just need to throw around a lot of big AoE or make sure to attack the champs over the normal/vets. I have 80 bag slots and go into these with 76 of those free, and I usually fill my bags by the end of an invasion and that’s after deleting any random trash I pick up. Solo.
I usually do (AOE), unless the group seems weak. Although me throwing an AOE should only make me popular, not them. I usually pull my staff on my Guardian and off heal and buff. The default staff attack is a frontal AOE if I recall correctly.
Okay wanted to make sure about credit etc.
Wasn’t one of the big selling points of GW2 the fact that we could show up to an event and partake then split? There was no need to be grouped. Last night and today I’m hearing “If you are not in a group you probably won’t get proper credit..”
O.o did this change with the update?
With GW1, you could edit the shortcut and add -images, and cause the system to download all the images used in game, thus speeding it up. Is there a way to do that for GW2?

Many will tell you your system needs upgrading. When in fact GW2 is trying different things and they are causing more problems then they fix.
Welcome to Gw2’s China/Korea Alpha testing.
Do you know how Blizzard could at both Dx11 and 64-bit support? Because the game has been bringing in nearly a BILLION dollars in sales every year for the last 5 years. Do you know what that buys you? A friggin’ building full of game engine developers who can focus on nothing else other than adding this support. To get the most out of Dx11 you really have to start from scratch and step away from the old Dx3D API and embrace the “new” way of writing Dx3D graphics.
Do you know how much this game has made in the first 3 1/3 quarters? About $200 million. How much of that covers the front money for the 5 years of development cost? It’s simply a matter of resources.
The game is going to China and Korea soon. PC game cafe’s in South Korea still have 30% of their machines running XP. Similar percentage in China for PC OS in general. ANet’s owners are Korean and most of their income comes from Asia so it’s important to support XP and thus Dx9.
Sad but true, which beggars logic when people say you need a better system. If Anet tries to imply that in China and Korea, they will fail miserably.
The tired remark of you need a better system is purely bogus. The majority of the people having the issues can run pretty much any other game on high and do fine. anet revised their engine from guild wars 1. It’s old and bloated and needs a high end system so it can work. Not because it takes advantage of the better specs but because it can’t run as they desire on anything less. There is a huge difference in the two. If you have no background in programming you really shouldn’t make blanket statements with no basis in fact.
Correct they rolled back the reduction of bonus from karma buffs. They did NOT give back lost karma to those that have gone ahead and used the karma they had stockpiled. They are deciding how to best deal with it. The reduction for the karma buff bonus will take place in September.
Well now they say they are trying to decide the best way. No refund is forthcoming.
With the Karma fiasco, and the removal of culling, etc.. etc.. etc.. Anet needs to do a complete rollback of 24 hours or so. I know they won’t but I can take solace in knowing I suggested it.
I’d just like is a final word from the DEVS if this is a glitch or working as intended (everyone in the same outfit and a sea of names). I would like to know if I should wait
( a fix is being worked on) or uninstall (they like how it is now) and move on.
Today players go for the champs only. Once dead they map to the next one.
I have tried playing with my settings, and no luck at regaining the look of other players. If this is permanent, I’ll need to quit. I’m not trying to demand anything, it’s just a simple matter of enjoyment. I didn’t start playing this game to see attack of the clones.
This is totally our fault, we dropped the ball on this plain and simple. We planned to have this messaged ahead of time to be fair to everyone, communication broke down between those who knew it was supposed to be messaged, and those who were supposed to message it and it simply didn’t happen.
As game director this is ultimately my fault first and foremost, and I’m sorry for those who potentially lost some karma as a result. It is our policy to message these kind of changes ahead of time with lots of warning, I’ll do everything possible to make sure this doesn’t happen in the future.
I’d recommend not using your karma consumables yet, give us a day or two to try and see what options we have available to help mitigate the issue.
Unless the 2 week schedule for updates was your decision alone, the fault is not yours. I commend your willingness to step up and take the blame, but whomever decided and ultimately approved the 2 week schedule is to blame for any and all issues that arise from said schedule.
To that end, Anet you should have enough data to prove the 2 week update schedule is a completely flawed premise and needs to be dropped. I’m sorry if I seem blunt and unsympathetic but we the players are the ones being punished for a failed idea. Stop worrying about other free to play game schedules and do as you did in GW1, make the game the best it can be.

I’m told you can adjust this with the WvW limit. But on lowest I still see a flood of names.
I’m wondering if the pavillion champ nerf has effected all champs in and ouside the pav.
I’m fairly certain they will either remove mf and replace it with nothing or it will be replaced with something like xp gain or something equally worthless. Why? If they replace it with a combat benefit they will face massive balance issues. So they will go the easy route and just remove it.
I haven’t seen a champ in the Pav for a while now. That coupled with no loot worth claiming makes me wonder why players go there and farm. We have one chance left. If the release in China fails, Anet might start listening. Might..
I miss the Droks run and Shiverpeaks tour I used to do in GW1. running was a fun way to hang in game.
Diminished returns seems to be the buzzword in game lately. The longer you farm the less you get, until you get basically nothing. In GW1 you learned if you had been flagged for farming you had to do some high end dungeons etc to start removing the flags. Is it that way here?
Strange game, the only winning move is, not to play…
1) Play solo often. Why? Learn to survive. Don’t count on heals or buffs from others, or just sheer numbers. Keep yourself alive. Press your luck, take risks. Learn when to run, and learn when to carve your initials in the bosses hide.
2) Go into higher level areas and spit in the eye of the baddies there. You may die, so what. LEARN. So many fear dying like it’s a badge of shame. You die, you rez, you learn.
3) Learn what Kite (get the boss or mob to chase you, while you pick it apart) and Pull (tag a single target and avoid grabbing all the agro, unless there is no choice) mean. Learn what agro (who and how many are crying for your blood lol) is, and how it effects you and any group you may run with. We don’t have the trinity (healer, dps, tank) here, but knowledge of these mechanics can really help you. My thief is a glass cannon, she does more damage than she can take. I’ve kited so many bosses while the group burns them down I lost count. Just remember a player that stands still is a corpse. Learn to stick and move. Run fast, sting hard.
4) Don’t worry about who has done what, how fast they did it, etc.. Chances are it’s pure BS. That is the number 1 profession in any mmo. Don’t just copy some ones build and take it as gospel that’s the only way to run. Experiment, trial and error is a great teacher. Develop your own play style. It’s your time in game. Enjoy it or log off.
Overall PVE is not really that hard. The main thing that makes it hard is mmo gaming co.‘s that can’t figure out what balance is. Too many think making something kitten near impossible is fun. These games will fail, each and every time. Don’t sweat it, it’s not your concern. Playtime should be fun time, or why bother, right?
It takes as long as it takes for you to learn your class. There is no time limit. Especially in GW2, you don’t even pay a monthly fee. If your guild harps on builds and cookie cutter setups, and you are tired of hearing it, split. Trust me there are sooooo many guilds looking for people you’ll have no trouble finding a new one. I tell potential guild recruiters I’m new and want to take my time, if they are open to that I listen. If they walk away, ha.. it’s their loss. I’ve played MMO’s for over 10 years. I could probably teach them a few things. Case in point, I had never done COF. I joined a group and the leader assumed (I’ll wait for the jokes) that everyone knew what to do. I told him before he invited I had not done it. About 1/2 way through the group was wiping a lot. I reminded the leader about this being my first time. Still he didn’t explain anything and did his best Leroy Jenkins imitation. On the final boss, the “experienced players wiped” and kept saying reset etc.. Myself (thief) and a ranger took the boss down. We didn’t even get a thank you. Oh well it happens.
This isn’t meant as a boast, just proof, knowing how to do things, taking your time, and learning how to fight and stay alive was what kept BOTH of us up.
Choice is yours..

The overall game is very casual (pve) they are trying to draw hard core players back, they gave it a sniff and most left. But that should not reflect on the game, they are the 1%r’s. They never stay anywhere long, they always fly back to WOW and stand around til something new comes out. It’s the locust effect.
i was a hardcore guild wars 1 player for years, i stopped playing this game daily 2 months ago. i don’t see me ever playing this game for more than an hour a day with the way they handle kitten
I hear ya. I do the daily and log. If I find a game I like more, GW2 will gather dust. Shame, so much potential and they turned their backs on all the loyal GW1 fans.
Nothing PVE wise is hard or needs much help if any. Some classes are underpowered and some are overpowered. That makes the difference.

A few new MMO’s are scheduled for this year. When ESO comes out, it will tell the tale imho. I think there will be a large drop in logins for GW2. We’ll see if the people that migrate come back. One strange thing is NcSoft has reported box sales are up, but revenues are down… O.o It seems they are banking on being a success in China.

Hopefully they will add more servers. Otherwise make a organized and orderly que to exit and make room for new players please lol
You won’t see legendary armor any time soon, you will see Ascended Armor in 2013 for sure though, yes.
So we can expect screenshots? Hey you said see, you didn’t say it would be added to the live game lol Sorry I’ve been around these games too long … :P
It’s really odd, with so many ghost towns, you’d think this game was 5 or more years old. Not as young as it is.
Bah, just do the Balloon Towers. They are so buggy by the time I finished I had about 250 to 300 tickets lol
BRING BACK SHIRO!!!! I have 8 fully geared and fully explored etc.. in GW1, and I voted for Ellen. :P
One of the strong points of Guild wars is, it does NOT have an established canon, already mapping out everything like Star wars etc.. It can be whatever it wants to be, go wherever it wants. It is also influenced by pop culture. For those that didn’t play GW1, you missed a lot of fun times with your hero companions. Hearing Vekk say “I have a theory about the Charr, I think they can be domesticated..” Or “choke on that Physics..” etc..
The game has a storyline but it can go wherever it wants. I’m hoping we meet the Asgard soon, hey they invented the Star gates right?
LOL it was fun seeing the Son of Svanir getting knocked down over and over.. lol In the end the Champ conceded, and well, the Wolfmaster was just about dead.
(edited by Evon Skyfyre.9673)
I had to try this and it was hilarious. I was in the Frozen maw area and saw the Queens Champion Heavy Hammer event start. Since no one was there I got him mad at me and ran past the Wolfmaster (also a champ). Yep they fought and I grabbed a ring side seat! All we needed was Michael Buffer
(edited by Evon Skyfyre.9673)
Whatever the reason I just wondered. With all the bugs introduced with the Queens Jubilee I thought this might be yet another.
Anet the 2 week schedule doesn’t work, drop it.
Okay. Thanks.. They probably do this to push us to leave the overflow.
Possibly, but what does that matter?
