Samuel, this mega server system sounds a little like the district system in GW1, is it based on that? Just wondering. Also why not simply add more servers? This really could turn out to be a case of “Don’t raise the bridge, lower the river..”.
I’m getting d/c after d/c on HoD.
The current loot system would be good if every event at least one person got something nice. As is, 99% trash.. the odd 1% loves crafting lol
“With megaserver technology, there are as many copies of a map as are needed to comfortably hold the population of players in that map at a given time. Rather than having a separate map copy for each home world and artificially limiting the amount of fellow adventurers you see, the megaserver system brings players together and dynamically opens up new map copies as necessary.”
Is this as a return to “Districts” like there are in GW1? I hope so.
The problem ultimately stems from the games design philosiphy. Everyone is equal, everyone is special and everyone gets credit for everything.
In traditional MMO’s you have to compete for kills and resources and loot from bosses. This means you have a much higher overall rarity to items that drop because only 1 person gets it. In GW2 EVERYONE gets full rewards for everything. This means the items are significantly less rare and mostly seem like junk because everyone is getting them.
Getting a rare (blue) item in a traditional MMO is rewarding and makes you feel accomplished. In GW2 getting a rare (yellow) item seems like a waste of time because everyone is getting yellow items.
That is why loot seems like crap in GW2.
It’s actually simpler than that. Loot seems like crap in GW2 because it is crap. In other competitive games like WoW RNG is on your side. Good, exciting, loot will simply be yours over time—you are rewarded for playing the game, which is as it should be. In GW2, not so much. The experience here is crap, crap, and more crap over time. The simple answer is that this is because of a bad loot system. It’s actually that simple.
I’ve said this for years, some games are pro player some are pro game. GW2 seems to think a groin shot each time we open a chest promotes us to play more, and keep coming back. OR buy something. The exact opposite is happening. Players are leaving.
I was showing some friends the game and they seemed to like it until they asked about loot. I tried to change the subject, and one said “Is it as terrible as GW1?” I had to answer yes. I told them of how the game was far better mechanics wise etc.. They didn’t seem to care. I guess some would call them loot monkeys. One then spoke up and asked if it had Anti farm code like GW1. I replied “To my knowledge no..” But in my mind, and many others, it does. Ever roam an area and have loot drops slow then stop. This reminds me of how Anti farm worked in GW1.
So I ask, will the loot always be so Abysmal?
For those unfamiliar, here is how the GW1 Wiki explains their anti farm code: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Anti-farm_code

So tired or having a ctd at the end of an event and losing the rewards.
1&2 ) Frozen maw Shaman
3) Jormag (His head kept going below the surface of the dirt lol)
4) My Guardian in Vigil Keep (flaming sword)
I remember one April Fools day in GW1, they swapped characters genders. Male characters were seen as female etc.. It was hilarious..
Post your funniest look, I’ve seen some really hilarious looking characters. The Grove is like Wonderland.
Here’s mine, Infinite Clockwork Guardian Tonic and the Bobblehead look, and some others! Want to really laugh, do a jump puzzle and watch XD

Spirits like Old Ascalon has.. They could offer a quest to help them find their resting place.
Too much?
This happens to all MMO’s it’s caused by the leveling process. The players become a herd, and migrate to the next area. Finally culminating in the last area they achieve OR the place where all levels can chat. LA was like that and now, well… This coupled with there being no reason to hang in lower areas. Some may pop in an out, but they go where their friends are.
I have runes I want to retrieve, and not re-buy. My Priory armor and my Vigil armor cannot be salvaged or used in the forge. What am I doing wrong?
Why don’t you transmute items onto the desired ones while keeping only the runes chosen for transmutation then?
Didn’t want to buy blue stones, plus I went with a different build for armor.

shakes fist at the screen ARENA NET!!!!!! another gold sink. They want you to buy/use the blue stones.
thx..
No… they want you to not use badge/karma gear for salvaging materials.
Priory/Vigil/Whispers gear is obtained with in game gold, not karma or badges. But even if it were, as slow as it is to build enough karma etc.. I truly hope Anet is not being that petty and stopping us from getting something out of the old set when we outgrow it.

It is transmuted, I transmuted ORR Karma armor to use the look of the vigil armor. It won’t let me salvage it.

The thought occurs, with the new armor/clothing update, there may have been some hiccups with repairs so they made it easy on themselves and removed them (repair costs).
Please visit the link below and read the article first, then reply.
The End of Repair Costs: Me personally I don’t mind either way. I’m sure some will scream bloody murder and demand repair costs be put back in game.
Event and Champion Loot: Reduction of raw gold from Champion bags. Meh, the loot is so horrible I stopped fighting them unless they are part of an event. I mean how many crafting mats do I really need?
Mystic Forge: As long as this is governed by the RNG, it’ll always be a gamble. Decon the stuff instead and sell the ectos lol
Trait Resets: Again I don’t have an opinion on this pro or con. I’m sure someone will complain about it. It’ll be fun to read why. LOL
Your thoughts?
I walked around LA for a while as well (instead of running.)
I was not at ground zero for 9/11. I can only imagine the feelings of those who were.
I was, however in Joplin May 22, 2011. Rest in Peace, the 158 people who died.
Things I had seen for most of my adult life were simply gone. Oddities like the slides at McDonalds still standing, only the rest of the building was gone. The wall with a lone couch in front that everyone who came by signed. The ruined hospital. The bulletin boards with names of people who simply wanted the world to know they are alive. and as far as the eye could see was nothing but destruction.
I did have to leave LA for a bit until I could get my emotions under control. I am better now, and plan to go back in soon to simply walk and pay my respects to a city that will forever be changed.
Oh… and I am not a Roleplayer, but after GW1 for years and GW2 since beta1, it’s till like losing a friend.
Indeed, seeing the blown out buildings and such in Lions Arch, reminded me of the aftermath from Hurricane Andrew. Didn’t even hear birds chirping for quite sometime. That and thinking about the families and how we lived for weeks with no power, or running water, marshal law, curfews.. 250,000 victims.. Funny how a game can trigger real world memories..
Wouldn’t it be cool if we could adopt a kid from LA for a sidekick? After playing my ranger and minion necro, I always feel a bit lonely running around with other chars without a pet or companion. I think I miss the sidekicks from GW1. A kid sidekick who knew how to run away from danger, but needed some help and guidance could be interesting. And have them carry some loot, heh, heh.
You’re thinking of Gwen and her red cloak.
There will be more to the story as it develops in my mind.

I only took one where I swam down into the hole from the breechmaker. There were some odd purple lights just kinda floating around, there was also some small lightning bits on the ground but that didn’t really stick out to me.
Look for 2 Lions…
Nice one! Good job.
Ting Ryu. She shed her armor, and set out to find that which she lost…

I wrapped him too. He deserved a burial also. Children fighting children. This is madness. I pushed his body into a burned out building and stood up, wet from the canal, and his blood. I stumbled into the night, the Miasma alert was sounding. I stood outside the arch, shaking and crying. I just walked off into the crowd. My pistols and daggers behind me. The next thing I remember is waking next to the calm waters of the scrying pool in the Eye. Someone was talking, it was Kimmes “She is awake now my Lord..”. Beofire stooped and smiled as he brushed my hair from my face. My armor was in a pile near the wall. I was covered with a blanket. “Beo?, how did I get here..?” Beofire sat down and explained how one of the order saw me outside the Arch, and said I was not doing well. He thought at first I was badly injured, there was so much blood. He was relieved to find it wasn’t mine. “He also left these for you.” Beofire laid a bundle containing my weapons at my side. "No.. get them away.. Take them .. no no.. " I cried. The others came running and wanted to know what was going on. Lady Anise was there. She ushered everyone out of the room. And offered me something to eat and drink. I pushed the food away but accepted the drink, it was wine from the palace.
“Queen Jenna sends her regards and me with some supplies. What was all the yelling about?”. I told her what I’m writing here, and she stood silent for a time then spoke. “Ting, may I call you Ashley?” I nodded. “Ashley I know you have seen and done many things, all in the name of protecting us all, but tonight you feel like you killed instead of defending. Is that right?” I put down my cup, and snarled “I’m no better then they are..I killed a child..a boy.. he .. he… I sobbed and sobbed..” The wine and my exhaustion combined and I fell into a deep dreamless sleep. Seems Lady Anise put something in the wine. When I came too, I saw Feldge sitting across from me. “Hi..” he said. “Are you feeling any better now?” “Too soon to tell” I replied. the others approached and seemed anxious. It seemed I was asleep for several days. I struggled to my feet, and wrapped the blanket around me. Being Sylvari, Feldge didn’t seem to notice my nudity. He was pondering a cup of something. “I’m going back to Orr, Trehearne is asking for me and I’ve indulged myself enough.” I had forgotten about Searian. He took it hard losing her. “Are you ok now?” I asked. “As good as I’m going to get. I still think of her often, The revered Mother says that is good, it means she is with me on the journey still. That made me feel a lot better.” He stood up and grabbed his pack. “I’ll miss you Ting, be safe.. ok?” I mustered the best smile I could and nodded. He was so sweet worrying about me, yet heading off to face the possibility of another Elder Dragon.
I walked over to a crate with my things in it and found my clothes and the coat I wore before I joined the Order. It felt good putting them on. The coat felt like an old friends embrace. I looked inside and saw the empty holsters and places for my daggers. After much back and forth internally I put them back inside my coat and fastened it. Yvonne walked in and handed me some coffee. “Hey sleepy head. All dressed I see. That’s a good start”. “She’s decent guys..” The others walked in. I saw my armor in the corner. “’Vonne, do me a favor please.. Burn those”. She swirled her hand, and a fireball appeared. “You sure?” she asked. “Yes, very..” I replied. She turned and tossed the fireball at the pile and it vanished in a puff of smoke and flame. Beofire looked at me and asked “So you’re done?”. I picked up my bags and looked his way. “Well from what I overheard, Scarlet is gone. And for now. We’re safe. Right?” “For now yes..” he replied. I slung the packs over my shoulder and said “I need some time. If you need me, Anise can find me..”. Anise looked up and raised her cup. “I hope you find what you’re looking for. Safe journeys”. I nodded and walked through the portal.

Retreiving my blades and tucking them into my boots, I ran towards the entrance to the Orders headquarters in Lions Arch. I splashed into the tunnel and dove into the water. As foul as it was, it was a relief to be out of the smoke and fire. As I entered our base, I noticed papers scattered around, and heard some moaning. It was a young recruit. He was clutching some scrolls and had a broken club in his hand. Nearby lay two motionless bodies. “I wouldn’t let them take these, kept them safe I did..”. I tried to smile and nodded, “well done recruit”. He motioned me to him “Please don’t tell the Commander I was out of uniform, it’s my first…” He slumped over, his hand slid away and the scrolls fell to the ground. They were covered in blood. He didn’t even know who I was. I wouldn’t have cared about his not being in uniform. He was just a boy. I pulled a drape from the wall and wrapped him in it. I’d see that he got a proper burial, when we ..if we, retake the Arch.
I went up the stairs and out of the grotto. I was in no fit mood. I saw some bladesmen in the bar atop the stairs and without thinking dropped the one closest. I never even gave him a chance to draw. He had scrolls in his belt. I assumed the rest and fired. I remember standing over him screaming..“He was just a BOY!!!” His eyes stared through me, and his mouth offered no excuses. I turned and saw his partner getting ready to throw a lightning ball at me. I dove behind some crates and waited for it to hit the wall. The explosion was deafening. I fired hitting the wall near him. It was enough to scare him into hiding. I made my way to my feet and jumped out the window. “I can handle guns, and blades, magic is best left to those skilled in it.” Rytlocks words still linger in my ears. After all this time.
I climbed down what was left of the stairs outside, and was hit with something that sent me into the canal below. I struggled to the surface and saw the hooded face I had left in the bar above. He was looking for me, and I wasn’t going to wait around. I swam until the water was too shallow and climbed some stairs. Another blast flew past me. I turned and fired as I ran across the landing. I threw myself into a doorway and waited, trying to catch my breath. Finally I stepped out and saw my assailant standing nearby. I threw my dagger and fired. He slumped against the wall and tried to stand. He stepped forward and fell into my arms. I staggered backwards, as his hood fell back revealing his face. He couldn’t have been any older than the recruit I found. He stared at me and said "I’m sorry.. please don’t hurt me.. My friend.. " He told me he was a new recruit in the Aetherblades. He was forced into service. His family needed the money, he had magic, and they were interested in him. The man I shot in the pub took a liking to him and was trying to keep him out of harms way. “Keeps your head down boy, and we’ll do alright, get a bit of coin too..” When I killed his friend, he was angry and scared and simply reacted by throwing ball after ball at me. He was hoping it would scare me off. I saw his eyes losing their light, and his final words were “I tried mom, I tried so hard..” I wiped his face and said “It’s alright honey I’m proud of you..”. He died in my arms.

I need to explain a little before getting to it. I haven’t written fanfic in a while. To that end, it’s going to be rough and well be kind
Ting refers to my Human female Thief – Ting Ryu “Graceful Dragon” it’s a legacy name from Gw1. I fancy in my writers mind her true name is Ashley. She keeps that hidden as she was/is Noble Born. Her Parents were murdered setting her feet on the path of finding out why, and ultimately leading to defending Tyria like many others have. She is in the Order of Whispers. I played GW1 So I have a Hall of monuments referred to in this story as the “Eye”. Beofire is my human Guardian, Yvonne is my Human elementalist. Feldge is my Sylvari Engineer. The voice within refers to Glint, one of the Dragons from GW1. Hence Tings taking of the name “Ryu”. But that’s another story.
Enjoy..
Tings Journal entry..
I’m writing this to make sense of all that has happened. I haven’t written since I was a girl, but.. It all started when I reported to Lions Arch. Scarlets siege was underway, the Miasma alert was lifted and we needed to get the citizens out. Each time we found more and more, bodies.. Even children. The hordes of the Aetherblades swept over the city like locust. They just kept coming and coming. The shoreline was over run with Scarlets minions. There were Krait, Sylvari from the Nightmare Court, Ogres, Charr, Asuran and more..
I made my way through the streets. The smoke, the screams, the bodies.. and the unending battles. The barrels on my pistols were red hot. As soon as I got out of one fight, another took it’s place. I remember a woman screaming as one of them tried to force her into a building on fire. The look on her face. I drew and shot until he stopped moving. She was spattered with his blood, the screaming. I realized I was the one screaming at him, his body no longer moving. The woman grabbed my shoulders and shook me. I finally stopped. I stood there just looking at his body. I heard that voice within, “Move on young one, you have much to do..”. I holstered my guns and ran forward into the ensuing crowd. I stood atop some stairs and looked across the plaza, it was hard to see through the smoke, even harder to breathe. I put my mask on and jumped into a fight nearby. Several Aetherblades were pummeling a Lions Guard soldier at will. I pushed one back drew my dagger and without even looking hit him squarely in the chest. He dropped, the other tried to flee, my second dagger hit him in the back. They both slumped to the ground.

I get to the pole, but see nothing. Is it gone now (Trolls end)?
Visited today and walked through the city. I put on my town clothes out of respect. I actually got heckled by another player for “Role playing” lol others told the complainer off so no big. mmoRPG ya know. It’s strange what the scene conjures up from my memory. Even memories from GW1. With all that died there, could we ever celebrate Wintersday or the Madd King again.. I can’t really say..
Screenshots of the city from atop one of the new viewpoints in Lions arch. Feel free to add your own..

For now the guns lay silent, no more will we hear them roar. For reasons yet unknown, we are tallying up the score. Names on shreds of paper, families torn apart. They know not when it ended, just when it got its start. Out of a clear Tyrian sky, a deadly beam found each, building, wall and spire, heard as far away as Divinitys Reach. I won’t forget the faces, the blood curdling screams, as the city that survived the centuries, was tearing apart at the seams. They came from the air, the land and beneath the sea, to ravage and destroy those like you and me. The air befouled, as the buildings burned, medieval were the pyres, even in the mornings calm, you still can smell the fires.
Now its time to gather those that cannot rise any more, and lay them beneath their beloved soil, they won’t suffer anymore. We’ll miss them each in many different ways, with the coming of each new dawn and ending of each new day.
Answers will be slow in coming, all any of us will know for sure, is the once clear waters of Lions Arch are tainted forever more.

My theif, that has faced Zaitan, hordes of undead, scores of Aetherblades and beyond, made it to the BLTC upper deck, and all the images of the battles in LA, the fleeing citizens, the screams, the acrid smoke.. she stopped and stood there on the bow and cried. Another walked up and just stood there, as if consoling her. It was sureal indeed. I’m actually glad for the lull in fighting. Each of my characters have gone home. They need to decompress. From the standpoint of the writer in me, she very nearly dropped her weapons and walked off. It’s kinda like when my Sylvari engineer lost Seiran. He… is broken, and trying to find the strength to continue on and face down Zaitan. To those rolling their eyes, those that write, feel things a bit more, wounds cut a bit deeper, and bleed longer. We open ourselves up to try and experience what it would be like. Imagine killing so many enemies, their faces blur. Your sword, once shiny, and strong, now scarred, its once bright luster gone. It is merely an instrument, whose soul purpose is dispatching those you face, dispencing justice on a drumhead as it were. How could you ever be little again, how could you be whatever you were before the first shot was fired…

Part of me thinks it might be a while before it is back. I figure it will be back by Wintersday at the latest. That said, people are hanging out in other cities etc. This is not a bad thing. LA was a big chat room. And a lot of the convos weren’t worth reading.. lol
It was leased to Disney. Lol
I was asked to convey this to all I could..
“Would the owner of a large red air ship please move it, it’s blocking the channel and causing a bit of a shipping hazard as ships return. The ship is large, evil looking and has been hovering for quite some time.. Thank you for your attention”
Would the owner please make this happen, I’d hate to see it towed..

The Breechmaker becomes a giant water slide and is run by the Asurans, since they claim it is stolen technology. The rest of Lions Arch is turned into Six flags over Tyria. Complete with the aforementioned waterslide, arcade, and food court. Saves all those blade shards as you’ll need to convert them into admittance tokens. See ya there!
Anet treats the in game loot like it is real. they did this in GW1 also. If you think the loot drops here stink, try running dungeons in GW1 and spend hours getting past all the mobs and defeating the boss, only to get a rare sword with horrible stats.

I’ve guested on Blackgate a few times and their best time seems to average out to 7 minutes to drop one knight, then the other two fall shortly after.
I took my chances today and guested on a “Full” server. I figured no way I won’t get in. Low and behold I did. My little system that everyone says replace was doing wonderfully. I joined a knight group and we downed green and joined in fighting red when we downed Green (with 7 minutes left!) and got to red and helped finish theirs, and did so with 4 minutes left. No lag, no crashes, quick mapping etc. Sorry Anet your tired excuse of get a new system or it’s your isp won’t work. I had no trouble and even went around doing other things and enjoyed the quick response. You know what to do, replicate the settings from “certain” servers and make all servers run well.
