I made a joke about this in guild chat when I got lucky and picked a Maguuma Lily, saying that I only need 8 more to get my Amalgamated Gemstone.
Just ignore the recipe, it does no harm. Would be great for people who need lilies if it was possible to salvage gemstones and get 9 lilies back ^^
with the super low drop rate, you got to wonder where the supply actually comes from.
Even with this very low drop rate, there are thousands of people farming Jungle Plants, and only a handful actually need lilies. It’s mainly used for Trailblazer’s stats, right? I think it’s not meta, for condition damage people get Viper’s stats.

I succeeded for the first time yesterday, after a couple of fails. Yesterday, I decided to not collect any ley line pieces but only focus on damage. We were only about 10 people, I play Power Daredevil, and I believe that my decision to only do dps helped quite a bit. In the former attempts, I did both, hit a few times, then collected ley line sparks, and so on.
With the dps output my Thief has, I can wipe all mobs there except the golem champs quickly. I also had cc skills ready, and I saw that the other people who were in the event knew how to destroy that breakbar too.
I think the event fails when too many people collect stuff instead of killing things.
I apologize: the “you” in my statement was referring to the OP, who isn’t enjoying it.
Sorry for having been rude, I was a bit kittened about other things when I worded my reply that way.
I’m sorry that you got defensive regarding my question about the source for your statement.
How do you get the idea that I got defensive regarding your question? I could as well ask you why you didn’t wrote “I’m sorry, I feel that you got defensive regarding my question.” and then ask you for specific quotes that prove that my post was defensive.
See what I did? You are not sorry at all, this is just another condescending phrase the way you use it. If you had been interested in a discussion or to learn more about my opinion, you would have asked “Why do you think this game is Nintendo-Hard?”.
Good luck and bye bye, I’m done wasting time with petty arguments.
(edited by Faaris.8013)
I’m genuinely sorry that you’re not enjoying the game as much as I have. That doesn’t, by itself, mean that something is wrong.
Have you even read the post I made about Nintendo-Hard I linked to?
Let me quote my last sentence:
But somehow, I guess the gamer part of my brain is hard-wired to this masochistic experience, and that’s why I enjoy the game in general. Thank you Nintendo!
I usually have the dailies done within 10 minutes, and I get 2 gold for it, sounds fair to me. + the stuff you get for each daily. I would do them for the 2 gold alone though.
But sure, I wouldn’t mind getting more, never say nay to free stuff!
My question was about your statement “That is their understanding of ‘game’”. How do you know what Anet’s understanding is? Did you read it somewhere? Please provide that information.
To be honest Djinn, I’m tired of your permanent desire to find errors and false statements, while everybody who can read between lines clearly knows that what was written is an opinion or an impression, based on indicators rather than evidence. You don’t need to point out every time that something you write is your opinion or that you believe that something is like this or that. 90% of what people write in forums is an opinion. If you see something that doesn’t have a source or evidence attached, treat it as an opinion, it’s that simple.
Would it make you happier if I had worded it like this: “My impression is that this is their understanding of ‘game’”? Adding this to all the stuff we write wouldn’t make it more readable or easier to understand (no, I do not have evidence for this statement).
I don’t remember what your method is called in communication theory, but please try to stop it. You are not adding any value to discussions by doing this.
Thank you
According to what?
I elaborated it in this post a bit more:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/lwd/this-cadeceus-fight/first#post6551985
and apparently, I’m not alone with this opinion.
Additional hint: there are USB foot switches and foot pedals you can use in addition to mouse and keyboard. These provide 2-4 additional keys that can be pressed independently from the mouse. Look an Amazon.
That’s actually a great idea, not even for people who can only use one hand. I can imagine putting the jump button on a pedal
Sorry, are Adventures really solo content, or are people just labeling that because it’s convenient and playing into their opinions?
I consider them solo content because you have to play them solo. Leaderboards exist since arcade games in the late 70’s. At Space Invaders, you could see the high scores of people who played it maybe months ago. I don’t think that comes close to a multi player feeling. When my brother and I played Tetris and competed in beating the other one’s highscore, it wasn’t multiplayer. If we connected our Game Boys with a cable and were able to impact the other one’s game by filling rows, that was multi player.
(edited by Faaris.8013)
Why do things in the game that you don’t enjoy?
It’s a serious question, as we all might need the reminder sometimes (especially with MMOs) that if it’s not enjoyable, it’s probably better to not do it.
Because you want something greater than the task at hand. Mastery Points maybe or some item. I am willing to grind a bit because of the fun I have with the reward later on.
Personally, i have never enough of t2,t3,t4,t6, but my bank slot for t5 skins is always full. I don’t need more of those at all.
It’s the t2,t3,t4 that are a chokepoint for ascended armor crafting, and it’s t6 that is required for insignias for stat switching. t5 is almost never an issue.
Well, for me it’s like Wanze said, T5 Thick Leather is what I have to buy every day. I rarely buy Hardened Leather. I don’t craft ascended armor atm, but keep doing the daily ectoplasm refinements, and I need a lot of Silk Scraps and Thick Leather for that, more than I farm. While Silk is cheap, Thick Leather is quite expensive. Not as expensive per piece as Hardened Leather, but since I burn through 200 a day, my total expenses are much higher on it.
Well, in PvP, the better player wins. If I joined PvP, I would get pwned probably 50 times before I get a win, because I never played PvP in GW2.
May I ask what the task was?
ArenaNet devs or designers tend to create Nintendo-Hard encounters.
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/NintendoHard
That is their understanding of “game”, so it’s quite possible that yours is different.
Thanks. I was able to solo and get Flawless Fins Foil Foes and Out of Cluck.
Can you tell me how you did the dolphin achievement solo? I did swim through the thing, got hooked 2 or 3 times but didn’t get caught. Yet, I got no achievement. I watched a video:
That guy got hooked at the end, but still got the achievement. Do you have to restart the whole fractal if you get killed once? Because in another (older) video, I saw someone trying a few times and he got the achievement.
This one and Weapons Tester in Molten Furnace seem to be impossible for me to get.
There’s no solo-only content in an MMO. An MMO is about community as much as it is about playing the game.
But, but…adventures are solo-only content, and GW2 is an MMO game.
Sure, there are players that do swap stuff around when needed but is that really the case for the majority of players?
This argument is like saying “Should we really put air condition into our store, there are only few people coming in anyway.”
People have to go through a few windows and clicks to change builds, and memorize all traits. If a majority of players did this already, there would be little additional value by adding templates. For me, the value of templates would also lie in people getting used to playing with different builds, because they don’t have to go through the clicking all the time. They would consider it normal that you don’t use the same build for all encounters.
Some people here argue that the encounters are mostly easy enough that it doesn’t matter if you change your build. That’s true, maybe things would need to be adjusted, so a build change would be a visible difference. My Thief really benefits from me changing traits and skills in T4 fractals and events. I’m pretty sure events like Triple Trouble, Octovines, Chak Gerent, Shatterer or Dragon’s Stand would be different if people cared more. It’s not visible, but only a small percentage of the participants care about their personal contribution, and it’s likely that 20% of players do 80% of the damage.
In small groups like in raids or fractals, it’s more visible. A handful of players carry the rest in those Open World events and the carried ones will not even know. The 20% do 3 times the required damage, the other 80% only half of it. And those who don’t care don’t provide heals or boons either.
I would like to see more people caring about their personal contribution in group events. If build swapping became normal, people would contribute more.
2 x pistol and then staff is what I did. I would go for staff first now though, it’s more dps against single and multiple targets, and will be the main source of damage. Haven’t equipped a bow for ages.
Also, for anyone that is not inherently good at these mini-games I disagree that they would be good XP/min as many people fail over and over.
Yeah, also, who has issues getting XP after level 80 anyway? I usually had maxed the bar before I had enough Mastery Points to get to the next one. I actually spread out the Masteries I bought to be able to use the surplus of XP I had.
(edited by Faaris.8013)
@Feanor: that principle worked well for many console games. I started playing games in the 90’s, and games at that time started easy and got harder and harder the further you proceeded. It’s also how humans learn in other environments. You start speaking/writing with easy sentences, that’s not a habit you keep when learning more about writing.
I give my kid a smaller football to learn kicking it, doesn’t mean he will have a hard time switching to normal sized balls when he grows up.
More players will try the content, right. That also means more players will stick to it. This is how countries get great sports teams. They try to get as many people as possible to try it out, because this is the way to discover talent and build a greater pool of players who stick to it. If you build basketball courts all over the place, you’ll have more people trying them out, and more people discovering their talent and if they have fun sticking to it. If you don’t care about luring people into playing basketball, your league will be a weak competition for countries who do care to get as many people interested in it.
The idea of “learning” a mechanic through training depends on how the training is implemented. If it’s implemented through blanket reduction on all/most important Raid mechanics then its value as training is effectively zero, like reducing all damage, hit points and increasing enrage timers. In that situation, I’ll take someone with zero Raid experience over someone with the wrong Raid experience any day.
Let’s say that green circles at VG take 2 seconds longer to explode in the training version. Suddenly if you are supposed to be on green duty in the actual raid, you will be a burden for your team (and cause wipes).
Let’s say that in the training mode Gorseval deals less damage with reflects while doing the black goo attack, now in the normal mode you are a liability for your team as if you are a dps you are more likely to go down, and if you are a healer, chances are you never understood how to heal properly at that phase.
Let’s say that Sabetha’s flamethrower doesn’t kill people but it causes damage instead. I don’t think I need to tell you how detrimental that would be to the entire encounter. The “Hey, in the actual Raid that attack would kill you, so try to avoid it in that, but no problem here.” isn’t exactly an argument. Most ideas for training modes assume that those participating in that mode will actually use it for training. Which is probably really far from the truth.
You assume the worst outcome and base your opinion on that. In low scaled versions of a raid, green circles at VG could take, let’s say, 5 seconds longer to explode than normal. Next scale, 4 seconds, then 3 and so on. People would naturally learn that the higher the scale, the shorter the amount of time until they explode.
Same with reflection damage on Gorseval. You scale in several steps, so it’s obvious that at the next scale level, the reflects deal more damage.
This works for Fractals. While Aetherblade force fields or Thaumanova lasers don’t kill you at lower levels (in fact, you can ignore the latter completely), they will down/kill you at T4. So what? You learn that with the first attempt in normal mode. Do you really expect people to do a perfect kill-run after having trained? Even with the current way, training in a guild, you can watch the raid from the ground a couple of times until you learned all the things that kill you.
Basically a scaling like in Fractals would be nice. In Fractals, you get Mistlock Instabilities at higher levels though and killer rabbits appear randomly, and the environment of Swampland changes. Raids should not be another form of Fractals, no adds with higher levels. Mechanics should be the same, but in easier modes, mobs deal less damage, are slower etc.
Like when you enter the raid, you can scale it with a slider. No rewards unless you pull the slider to max. I would definitely start getting into raids.
Right now the raid section of LFG is like asking for a trial session at FC Barcelona because you have watched football on TV for a while and know the mechanics of the game.
Edit: to the LI on LFG problem, they could give you some tokens for doing the lower scaled raids to show as proof that you spent time learning the mechanics. That’s still better than having nothing to show like now.

Thief in Fractals, I switch there every couple of minutes, traits and skills. Depends on the group (pug or guild) and on the next boss (melee or ranged).
I also switch from Trickery to Deadly Arts back and forth in Open World, Trickery for roaming with ranged, Deadly Arts when there’s a tougher encounter/World Boss.
It’s a problem everybody has, even at level 80/186 Mastery. People come with Elementalists to these dailies and spam AoE spells on the area where the group of low level mobs will spawn. When the silhouette of the mob appears, its health bar is already down.
I think it would help if players slowed down a bit, but only one AoE spammer destroys that approach because he forces the others to do the same. When I’m at those events with my Thief, I only shoot one bullet after the other with #1. If only one bullet hits, I get credit for the event. I then usually just move on to another event because you don’t have to stay in the area to get the credit for the daily. You can actually jump from event to event, just landing one hit, and then go farm on the map until the events finished. That works as long as there are people who successfully finish the event, and that’s always the case because with low level characters participating, the additional XP and Karma from gold participation is worth it.
For me, those XP have basically no value so I don’t care if I get bronze or gold. 250 Karma is also nothing if you have a million or more. Only reason for me to actually stay for kills is when I get a heart completion for it.
If there is a champ and someone fights it alone and it dies too quickly: remember, we cannot see you coming. There is no indication on the mini-map that someone comes running to the champ and is around the corner. I’m not going to call out a mini-champ that is killed within 30 seconds on map chat, I just finish it and move on.
Let’s not have anymore derailing posts or ignorance posts about the disabled. That’s not the point of this thread and these posts do nothing to help with these issues.
Thank you.
I agree, I tried not to get into this in my first post. However, you brought this topic up, for no reason related to the game. Your disability has nothing to do with the problem you have with the gem store, so why bring it up in the first place? And now you are asking people to not talk about disabilities, that’s weird.
Take away the last part of your first post and your points about the gem store don’t lose any value. To be honest, I skipped the last part before I wrote my first reply, because your problem is that ArenaNet doesn’t respect when you get your paycheck and removes items from the store before you have money to buy them.
But that’s how life goes. Opportunities don’t care about your personal situation, you have to prepare yourself to seize them when they show up. I gave you advice how to prepare for the next sale, so you don’t miss out.
Thing is, ArenaNet sells more items if they only make them available for a short time. You probably have a list of real life things that you would like to have, but are not necessary. You postpone your purchase because they are always available, you think if you really wanted, you can buy them any time (like you could fulfill your life’s purpose any time, if you just wanted, and you have the rest of your life to do it). Most of these things you’ll never buy. Nike sells a lot of “special edition” sneakers because sneaker-heads know they are only available for a short time and in limited numbers. That is what makes them special and valuable.
Understand how it works and prepare accordingly. I wanted the Viper’s skin for my Thief girl since I saw it a couple of weeks ago, googled it, found a reddit thread that’s over a year old where someone asked about the gem store rotation. I realized that it will come back at some point, so I prepared. Now it’s back in the store and I got it. I “fell” for the artificial scarcity they created, but my Thief looks sexy, so I have that going for me.
(edited by Faaris.8013)
Sorry, but even people on fixed incomes (majority?) benefit from planning their expenses on a monthly basis. Please consider putting away X Euro/Dollar per month for gaming, so next time you will be able to buy the item when it shows up.
You can also get gems with ingame gold. There’s something wrong when you have to wait for your paycheck to buy an ingame item, and it’s not ArenaNet’s business model.
No, it was a serious question. You get XP to level up. First from 1 to 80, then for Masteries. If you don’t want Masteries, why do you want the currency to get them?
Let’s say you collect pearls to craft yourself a necklace. You crafted 15 of them, then decide that you don’t want to go through the effort of crafting anymore necklaces. Would you keep collecting pearls?
What do you need XP for if you gave up on Masteries?
I would go for middle ground. The sellers obviously overvalue this item, the buyers want it cheap and hope someone needs the cash quickly. I am not greedy and when I go for middle ground, I always sell within a day. This shows me that I could have got more profit if I had offered at a higher price, or no profit at all.
Your item is something people can wait for. They don’t “need” it, they would like to have it. I’m not greedy and when I loot something I don’t need, I’m happy if someone finds it useful. I got 2 chests this week with commander’’s armor recipes to pick. I checked the market and saw that the leg recipe sells best. To be honest, I’m surprised that people try to sell it for 50 gold, and people want to buy for 8. I wouldn’t even pay 1 gold for it, I don’t know what use it has for them. You can craft exotic commander’s legs for your mesmer, but if you pay 50 gold for the recipe, the whole venture will be more expensive than just crafting ascended legs and turn them into commander’s.
I thought maybe these are old postings, from times that knew no ascended armor, and people just forgot their offers. But no, I chose the middle ground and sold one recipe for 20 and the next for 25 gold. It’s quite possible that they are on the TP for 50 gold now, but maybe I made someone happy with stuff that has no value for me, and I cashed in 45 gold.
You cannot lose here, because apparently, the skin has no value for you. Middle ground is usually the most realistic price if more than two players sell/buy.
Some players should change their attitude. Asking devs to change it just be cause they feel not able or too lazy to try and complete it (I mean bronze – for real?) is just lame.
Doesn’t matter how easy or hard it is, and btw. what about Mastery Points? You don’t get any for bronze.
If collections and MPs are tied to content that has nothing to do with an MMO, why not tell the developers to change that? Nobody asked for them to be easier, because people don’t want to do them in the first place. Even if they gave gold just for participation, people could ask for collections to be disconnected from them. If the developer’s management decided that time, energy and money should be spent on creating console mini games because few people like them, that’s their decision. The data about participants they have tell them nothing about the success of those “adventures” because people do them not because they enjoy mini games, they only do them for collections and Mastery Points.
Remove collections and MPs from “adventures” and don’t make them dailies, and then collect data on participiation. My bet is the results would show that the time, energy and money spent on creating them was wasted because only a handful players do them. And then they probably only do them once and never return.
But no, “force” people into doing something that’s no fun for them, and the team can prove how much players like it because everybody does mini games, right?
In conclusion, the game should not encourage gameplay that is not fun for a non-negligible part of the players. I cannot write “force gameplay”, because collections are optional.
In the last days, they are trying to get people into Dungeons. They are not fun either, but ArenaNet seems to think if they make just more people play them, they become more fun somehow. I’m pretty sure only a tiny percentage of players would do mini games like “adventures” and “activities” if they were not tied to mastery points, collections or dailies.
I’m pretty good at console and jump’n run games in general, so I am able to train those adventures and get gold or at least silver (depends on how much time I want to spend). I just want to play an MMO in my free time, not jump’n run. That is why I’m playing GW2 and not console games, right? I have silver or gold in most of the “adventures”, but only for the mastery points.
The person who got the idea to put mini-games into MMO games must have been a misunderstood sarcastic one. And some people seem to love them, which I don’t get. If you want to play a console game to take a break from the MMO, just leave the PC and play one. What’s next, arcade mini games that give Mystic Clovers?
Raid rewards need to be exclusive to create a drive for players to play them again and again. The content is great, but even the greatest content gets exhausted if you have no reason to go back to it. See dungeons for instance.
I’m not sure if it needs to be that way. Seriously, who enjoys escort after the first times? It becomes dull quickly by itself. The reason to go back is rewards but also group activity. It would be horrible if you had to do it solo over and over again. People who ask for this to have solo versions should take a hard look into the mirror. As you say, even the greatest content gets exhausted. When I stumble over some champ while roaming around for map completion and the UI says “Group Event” , I often accept the challenge and solo it. Maybe next time at the same champ again, but that’s it. I will not do it again because it’s no challenge anymore. I do Tequatl almost every day because it’s a group event and we have fun there. It doesn’t even need rewards, Tequatl rarely drops a chest. It would be more efficient to do Fractals in those 40 minutes it takes from getting to the map before it’s full and dealing the last blow to the dragon.
I’m happy that ArenaNet doesn’t give me the option to do raids solo for big rewards, because I might do just that and the game would turn into a huge grind for me. If they added raid-like, challenging content that can be soloed, without giving the same reward full raids give, I’m in. A prestige reward that shows you soloed it, sure, why not.
I think many more people would test out raids/fractals if there were solo versions for them. As it is now, you don’t really have room for experiments unless you do it with your guild and they are patient. We do T4 fractals every day and our Chronomancer likes testing new things. He would probably be kicked from pugs if he did that though.
tl:dr: Solo version – yes. Same rewards – no
Maybe have her start with a class that levels faster. Mesmer is painfully slow. I started with Thief and maxed a Mesmer next. I only had crap armor and weapons when I played my first character, but levelling the Thief was fun anyway. Then I decided to build my Chronomancer up and played her. At level 30 I decided to learn two crafts to help levelling, which gave me about 24 levels. Then I went out for xp again, in pretty good gear for that level because now I had the means to get it. It was still painfully slow compared to my undergeared Thief when she was at that stage. I had even issues doing the hero point challenges in Tyria. My Mesmer almost never died though, everything just takes ages. You can grind down a champ safely for 10 minutes, but with a dps class, you can do it in 2 or 3. The latter is much more fun for me, despite getting downed/dying a lot more.
Even now, the Chronomancer with ascended gear, is less fun roaming than my Thief. This changes when you play in a team though, where others take care of dps and you make them stronger.
btw, I used Tomes of Knowledge from level 60 or so because I couldn’t stand grinding xp with Mesmer anymore. It’s a cool class, but for new players, discouraging.
I like those suggestions a lot. The only time I use Scorpion Wire is at the Dragon’s Stand meta event when the bugs need to be calmed. I wished I could use it when a breakbar is broken, like on the Shaman Champion in the Volcanic fractal. This would be a perfect skill to get him away from prisoners in the last phase.
You did when you made the changes that could be made as if they’d be nothing to implement.
I said let’s put a picture on that wall, Serophous replied with “You obviously have no idea about interior design if you think refurbishing a room is easy!”
@Serophous: Who said a UI overhaul is easy? I read the thread again and nobody said that.
I would be happy if they added a row above the skill bar with numbers 1 to 3. You set up your traits, then ctrl-click on one of them, saved. Next time you simply click on it, your saved traits are active.
That’s not an overhaul of the UI. Is that overly complicated for a professional developer team?
ANet staff have commented on this a few times (none recently that I recall). Each time, they’ve said more or less the same things: they’d definitely like to do something, but it’s more complicated than we think. For example, gear stats & upgrades (e.g. runes) are critical to builds, so how should they be handled?
What? They could just add a macro. Anything that can be done by clicking can be done automatically. Click on a button to record, make your changes, stop, save in a slot with a number. I don’t believe that is difficult to implement and it would make a lot of people happy. Most times, using a solution that’s not the most elegant is better than a perfect solution that will never be found or implemented.
I don’t see how runes and sigils could be a problem. I cannot switch runes or sigils manually, so I don’t even expect that to be automated.
Sorry, but that cannot be what the devs said, but I’m happy to read what they wrote.
Alright, so I just randomly checked the contents of the chests you get from doing T4 dailies and noticed Endless Fractal Tonic (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Fractal_Master%27s_Chest). It’s a rare drop but I also got legs from one of those chests, which has the same rarity, so it’s quite possible.
If you buy the off pot for 8k relics and then loot that Tonic, you lost 3k relics, because you can trade in that Tonic for any of the infinite pots.
Soooo, it might be smart to postpone buying the most expensive one, just in case you get lucky and loot that Tonic.
You’re basing your look on the handful of people you asked and not taking into account any ANet employees who might have there but not tagged up, or the fact that unless you or the few people you asked were there 24/7, you wouldn’t know even if they did come by tagged up.
Those 4 people were just the scouting team, there were a dozen untagged ArenaNet staff members actually farming. True story
In my eyes hordes of botters/cheaters which I witness reduce the value and enjoyment of a game since I believe that to get a reward of any kind, you should play a game.
Where are you playing? I’m at 92% world completion and play in all areas of the world, and only saw berry-necros and pony-engis, and only the latter could be called a “horde”. Maybe you are really looking hard and mistake people who are just afk without farming for "hordes of botters/cheaters.
There are no hordes of botters and cheaters in this game, otherwise people would notice them, right?
Maybe a better question: when do you play? It’s quite possible that those hordes storm the world while I’m asleep. I live in Germany.
@Sorca: Just play the game, participate in events. I got lots of random invites from guilds just by playing. Many guilds just look for people without tag and invite them. These are not bad guilds, I joined one and the people are awesome.
The second guild I joined after doing fractals with a few of their members. It’s a smaller guild and doesn’t invite randomly.
So we’re talking about profession discrimination, you provide examples of level requirements, build discrimination and WvW where everyone can walk around freely like I said, and get as much reward as anyone who is in a squad.
Okay.
But do you get full rewards when you just escort a squad? People here say you don’t get the same rewards as someone in the squad. I would agree that classes are discriminated against, I just don’t see it as a big deal because players can have multiple classes and pick from them when they play WvW.
It is customary to say “r” in chat when you’re in position at the cleft, wait to have 3 “r”-s and then someone say “go” in order to sync the effort.
Apparently, there are different versions of custom
Just saying, it can happen that the others start at the third “r” because the last “r” means everybody is ready to go. If you then wait for someone to write “go”, it might be a problem.
I’ve only encountered
r
r
go
Ignore what Faaris says, just play what you want to play and follow commanders with whatever profession you want. It’s not that hard.
It’s really only players that try to exclude players, but the game will always allow you to be there. Open world and WvW are free zones to play in, if anyone says you shouldn’t stand or do something in this public environment, ignore ( or block them) and continue as you are. I sure as hell wouldn’t let some WvWers tell me what to do.
Before you suggest ignoring what I wrote, maybe read both posts properly. Even OP doesn’t talk about player discrimination or exclusion, the topic is about class discrimination/exclusion. Players are always welcome, some classes aren’t. But that is like someone with a level 30 character who wants to participate in the Triple Trouble event. This player might say they don’t like high level characters and enjoy playing at around level 30 for some more time. Sorry, your level is excluded from this event. You can fix that by levelling up. Just like that players can create classes that fit the thing they want to do in the game.
You can try to join a raid with a Bearbow Ranger, but that is not a good fit for the thing you want to do. You can fix that by having another class that’s better suited for it. Starting your own LFG with that build is not a fix for the problem (especially since you will not get what you want with the group you will get). Hoping that ArenaNet makes your preferred build stronger is also not a viable siolution for you. The only thing I can think of that works definitely and in short order is building a character with a class that can be properly used for the thing you want to do.
Don’t look for external factors to solve your problems if you can fix them yourself. If you like to play Thief in WvW more than you like rewards, go for it. If you like rewards more, make your choice. If you choose to play thief, you exclude yourself from the bigger/faster rewards.
If you want to fix it, absolutely and finally and with no way to continue exploiting or new locations to farm, you eliminate the auto-loot passive and you make loot drops disappear from the ground more quickly.
You know what else would fix this absolutely and finally and with no way to continue exploiting? Removing loot from mobs alltogether from the game. Stupid you say? Sure, but it would solve the problem. Just like your suggestion…
The game is almost not playable without auto-loot, it’s one of the first masteries I went for. Without it, I would probably stop looting mobs at all, except champs and bosses.
This would kitten a lot of people off and cause more harm in the comunity than all afk-farmers could ever do. I welcome Necro-farmers in BF, they are doing a community service by keeping the berry nodes clean. They don’t bother me at all, and most players probably think like me, but they don’t come to the forums and shout how little they care.
You are suggesting a major change to the playstyle of everybody to get rid of a minor issue that bothers few. Not a good idea at all.
Then just play one of those classes. ArenaNet set the incentive, they might have wished for this.
If nobody plays Thief or Ranger in WvW anymore, maybe ArenaNet changes the incentives, or they don’t care which classes are played in WvW. You as a player are not excluded, you choose to exclude yourself from these rewards if you play a class that doesn’t fit the mode.
There’s no reason to change rewards in other modes to make things “fair”. How fair would it be if people simply played Guardian in WvW and Engineers in PvP/PvE and gain max rewards from all modes?
I know players who switch classes from fractal to fractal and it’s quite common to pick the class that fits a raid best when you join. Nobody is excluded, you get 5 character slots and can get up to 64. And as long as no players are excluded, I don’t see an issue with exclusion. Some classes are better for WvW than others, same goes for raids, fractals, PvE, PvP.
You are right, but the additional work is not a big factor I guess. From my hobby experience in modelling: you can just make a box out of a sheet with dragging it, right? They probably do just that for thicker stuff, modelling the curves in a sheet, then give it some height by dragging. Thinking about how I would do it if I wanted a thick cloak instead of using a sheet.
Performance is probably the main issue, more vertices, more to compute. Since I started playing games in the 90’s, everything where I cannot count the pixels is already great for me. I’m happy with the texture and modelling quality in GW2. Only thing that bothers me is too many trench coats and few alternatives for my Thief.

go!
Not only in pugs. You don’t know if someone is trying to get rid of a mob, waiting for a skill cooldown or isn’t ready yet for some other reason (maybe Mossman made his infamous appearance?). At low level, you have plenty of time, but with 30 seconds, I rarely see success at the first attempt. They could have told you about the procedure, but I guess in their eyes, not knowing about it was a sign of being unexperienced in this fractal and they got fed up.
With GW2 combat, from the beginning almost, often the only lesson to learn is that you shouldn’t have entered combat. Entering combat was your only mistake. And then you die.
That is simply not true. Yesterday I could literally watch people learning at Golem Mark II. You died because of electric fields on the ground? Oh, better move out of them next time. Ah, red circle, I know what to do. Oh kitten, even bigger red circle, so I have to dodge twice in a row, better save up my endurance. Alright, so this machine gun circle shower again, get closer to the golem. Now the rotation starts again…
Get sniped while flying to the Octovine with bombs? kitten, better hit the dodge button next time to get stealth. Fell into the lava through the gap of the bridge in the Volcanic Fractal? (I’m always looking who falls in pugs to see who’s new to it) Well, next time you know when to jump. Kill yourself because the boss used reflect? Sure enough, next time you stop firing when his shield goes up.
There are uncountable examples that provethat combat in GW2 teaches you how to fight. Do you have examples of the opposite?
Yes, looks like a form of protest, not sure it’s a smart one.
Thing is, you can always find ways to exploit, spoil and grief in games. I wonder already if some people let the Triple Trouble event fail deliberately. I don’t see why else some people would keep running bombs, filling up the blue container and kill the abomination while everybody else shouts in chat that they need to stop. Each of the three worm head events can be manipulated to fail.
It’s fairly easy for a small group of players who enjoy griefing to let that event fail, and we all know these people exist.
If some people really create harm by protesting that way, I think ArenaNet needs to clamp down on them swiftly and transparently.
“Look, this is really harmful farming, not the Centaur farm!” is probably the message.
