Literally, I am becoming physically sick by roaming thieves. After all these months of being instagibbed on my staff Ele, I really want to punch a dev every time I die from one. It’s like a Pavlovian response now. Because we all know, if a Thief stealth’s in behind a staff Ele, we’re dead on the spot. Backstab, Heartseeker, Heartseeker, and there’s all my HP gone in 2 seconds. Dodging is only a delay. Mist form, without any ability to use skills, is only a delay. Heck, I’ve been vital shot down, pew pew pew pew, unable to escape or win with staff.
All this is why the dev’s really need an ear full, all day long. Players have been posting thread after thread since launch about this profession. Which seems to be purpose built to grieve. Sadder is when a Dev has in his WvW video that he runs havok with 2 Thieves and 2 Mesmers. Doubling down on the two most annoying classes in the game.
Still, I have a lot fun in WvW. But, this designed in instagibbing and grieving makes it highly frustrating and sucks the life out of it.
Buy real gear then. Because that must do like 12k dmg at most with 100% crit and good power (aka full zerker thief).
If you’re also running full zerker, don’t complain about dying. Same if you have 0 armor.
And why should you not be able to win vs 2 enemies,no matter the class ? That would be nonsense. Also never seen thiefs doing the same vs other people? Why would any class except thiefs be unable to do this ?
Because that’s 2 against 1. If they know how to play and are both 80, you should stand no chance. Of course when they’re noobs or underleveled it’s another matter but i don’t see why you should be able to win vs 2 enemies at same gear level, same level and same skill level.
This is insane.

To be really honest though…
Is it fair to die and then come back and kick the guy’s kitten ?
Not really. I mean, rangers for instance can get back up so quick when they have their #3 skill up (=> pet reviving them).
Stealth != invulnerability. If you’re alone, it’s only fair you die, the guy beat you anyway, you’re on the ground…he could just bs you to death too.
If you’re not alone…your allies suck. Just have them use stuns/aoes/whatever near you and you won’t be stomped.
Condition removal at the right time and that trapper dude is gone.
This but you need to make sure you apply constant damage to them as trap rangers can continuously apply many different conditions to you at once while if built right, be heavily evasive. If you find yourself losing, check to see if they have signet of the hunt and if they don’t fleeing should be relatively easy unless they are using a greatsword. If they are using a greatsword, their condition damage is fairly heavily kitten though.
What conditions are the applying outside traps? Bleeds needs flanking, and if you dodge the traps they have no damage.
Trap rangers mostly perform well against melee heavy builds, while solid ranged builds outmuscle them and with a pitiful 600 range throw trap you won’t be damaging anyone who wants to kite you at 900+ range.
A good mesmer or engineer will make quick work out of you.
Axe torch can use 3 abilities to put conditions on you. Just not traps.
With the trap and offhand cooldown reduction here are mines:
Splitblade 6sec
throw torch 12sec
bonfire 20 sec
flame trap 12 sec
spike trap 20 sec
viper’s nest 16 sec
poison volley 9 sec (shortbow)
crippling shot 12 sec (shortbow)
Entangle (ok 150 sec here ^^)
As you can see, it’s really easy to be constantly applying conditions. You can also add in the bleeds that come from critical hits.
Not sure why people think only greatsword work in zerg rushes though, maybe they’re just obsessed by the combat log, which doesn’t show condition damage x)
Because it hits more targets and hits harder. Most conditions are useless in ZvZ coz of AoE removal everywhere. Outside of few specific condition bomber builds, meta is power dmg. Also, GS 1. chain gives you evade that works great in middle of enemy blob.
I strongly disagree. Even with condition removal (which isn’t anywhere near enough to remove all the conditions applied by 30 to 50+ people), i’m pretty sure traps do much more damage than the greatsword. Remember you’re not ONLY using traps, i’m also using my axe which can do quite some damage as well (crits for 1000+ with just 50% crit dmg).
Still, it’s without doubt better than a bow, but not the only viable option
Yeah it’s true that sometimes players miss you. I mean i remember a time i killed several people from the other zerg that were a bit away from it STANDING NEAR THEM !
They didn’t even see me hit them or just didn’t care.
Pretty sure a thief group would hurt more though…all hitting the same target then disappearing and coming back to kill someone else.
Haha, that was fun.
Now imagine lord of the rings full of arrow carts x)
Yeah strangely it doesn’t seem like it’s consistent.
Charr will have their horns out but asura have their ears tucked in. Weird.
Nope we don’t, we’re often outmanned since other servers are full even at nights. We just have medium pop.
And we’re using TS ofc.
@Tuluum: that’s interesting. However i’d really like to see it happen, pretty sure you couldn’t do it against a 80 men blob zerg which seem to be quite frequent now.
(edited by Fenrir.6183)
I thought all the helms did this…don’t they ?
I’ve gotten used to it, even though i’d like to have the beard to show, i understand why it doesn’t ^^
Condition removal and dodging through the traps.
For some reason though, most people just run into them…
I’m running a traps/condition damage build with carrion (some berserker pieces in trinkets). I’m at 22k5 hp, 2300 armor. Not what you’d call squishy, that’s much more than my zerker thief.
The shortbow works very well with condition builds, it’s much better than the longbow. However, my main weapons are axe/torch and that’s what i use most of the time.
I use the shortbow on switch when everything else is on cooldown and i want to finish some fleeing guys or downed opponents but in a zerg or while following a commander i mainly stick to axe/torch (lots of AoEs and you can use axe 2 without targetting).
Not sure why people think only greatsword work in zerg rushes though, maybe they’re just obsessed by the combat log, which doesn’t show condition damage x)
Did you even read my message ? I describe this kind of situations. Yes, people will drop fields. Will other people have the time to use them ? Probably not, or not much. So all in all, they won’t have such a big impact as you seem to believe they do.
What has impact is sticking together, following the same tactic, moving fast and avoiding AoEs. Obviously when you stack together, the area heals will heal everybody.
Re-read my previous post please, then answer me.
And fyi i usually play in well coordinated teams, my server is in top tier in europe for a reason.
Why physics defying ? They’re hitting from above the doors. I don’t see any problem in physics with that…You can shoot an arrow to the sky and it will fall down.
So they’re not exactly “traveling through solid walls”You cannot land the arrows with angle 90. That is physics defying. Check how SPG tanks shot and land in WoT.
Wait, what ? Why would you shoot at 90 degrees, you’d get it on your own head. Just shoot it at an angle between 45 and 70 and it’s going to fly just right. Sure the angle on arrow carts is a bit high but it’s still not going “through walls”. And it isn’t so different from AoEs from several classes that hit you even when they don’t see you.
This i can agree with ^^
Arrow carts should do very little damage to rams. That’s what the oil is there for (wood does burn).
Nice suggestions, i agree with most of them.
I think it looks great.
I’m using one on my warrior and it looks fine imo. Just don’t dye it in a color that’s bright, then you’ll lose some details on the helm.

1.) Combo fields are an integral part of coordinated play before, during, and after combat in WvW. Frankly you play with/against people who are not taking advantage of that in large scale fights they are missing out.
No, they don’t. Gameplay is too fast for fields to make a big impact in wvw’s big fights. Oh sure, if you play like 10 vs 10, it might change the result, but in a 50 vs 50 fight, it won’t do much. Movement, staying alive and dodging the aoes, healing yourself while damaging the most opponents is what matters. You can’t coordinate the attacks and have someone put a field when you need it or something, it just comes down to players knowing their class and gameplay trying to do it right.
The fact people are still denying the mid combat use of combo fields really just goes to show me a lot about some of the people on forums. My guild has won several heavily outnumbered fights solely because of the mid combat use of combo fields and stacking. Yet people still deny the possibility of it ever happening because they personally don’t take advantages of combo fields or run in disorganized zergs… why..why are you here?
I’m not denying the fact that they’re useful, i’m denying the fact that they can be made of use in a strategic way more organized than just common good practice. You can set rules like “xxx class do xxx field at this moment in the fight, xxx class will then do this, and we drop this kind of field”, etc. but you won’t be able to time those for them to make a really significant impact over the other team (that will use them as well in a non organized way). The gameplay is too fast to be able to organize fights that way. The fact that you fail to recognize this makes me wonder if you really do wvw or are just trolling.
Of course people are going to stack and of course they’re going to use fields. Are they going to win because they did it in a more organized way than the other team ? No.
This game is not world of warcraft and it’s not everquest. Fights are way shorter and require more mobility (dodge being a big factor here). This leads to fields not being used to their maximum like buffs, debuffs and such in other games.
In eq for instance, you need to debuff the magic resistance of enemies, then you need to slow their attacks (shaman spell), etc.
Here, while you can have good practices and habits, you can’t really plan the fights like in other games because they are much faster, and rely more on reflexes and tactics than strategy.
The point of rams is destroying doors faster. It’s not meant to be invulnerable and a safe way to enter towers / keeps.
If you can’t deal with the ACs damage, then use catapults, trebuchets and all the other tools you’re given (your weapons included).
Do you have other programs running in the background that could make the game get minimized and (potentially) crash on return ?
I guess it is not hardware problem, because it did not have before, and it all started in May. Forum is full of reports of crashes, friezes, etc. And in the logs you can see
Content is referencing a propID that doesn’t exist propId=‘1600443319507255854’
Model ‘0×005c42’: UnlinkModel called on CModel without LinkComponent
Mem Arena ‘Environment’ capacity exceeded. Attempted alloc category: ‘Map Zone’ Size: 5472
Texture missing mip chain: 0×066f6cWhy do these errors occur?
I sent a lot such reports in Anet, ?ach time the game was crashing. but the problem has not been solved so far.
That kind of error can come from a lot of reasons. Computers occasionnally encounter errors when there’s a problem (overheating, not enough power (voltage), ram clogged up, etc.). When it encounters an error, you get random behavior on some parts, for instance, some textures missing and such. It’s only a one time thing though, and if the error doesn’t repeat, it doesn’t lead to a crash.
If you’re crashing, that means either you’re getting a lot of errors or your computer has some kind of hardware problem (like a component crashing).
So maybe it’s because of a change they made, and now the game takes up more memory, proc or gpu on your computer, leading to more errors and thus crashes. Or maybe it’s a bug in the game but frankly, if your whole computer crashes and locks up i’m pretty sure it has nothing to do with the game as games are just using the resources allocated by the OS and couldn’t make your computer crash if there wasn’t a hardware problem.
I am crashing constantly too. I got a new GPU and updated all the drivers. It seems like a graphics issue seeming as it crashes faster in higher graphics. I really love playing on high graphics but I keep crashing… I shouldn’t need a top end set up for this., right?
The portrait for the target and some UI windows start to become covered by rainbow and loose the texturing.I am running a GeForce 550Ti with AMD Phenom II X6 and 4GB RAM
Read my first answer, try all this and see if it helps.

If YOU have a personnal issue with the class that you think can’t be solved, why even bother posting about it ? Go make suggestions if you want to see change and if you don’t just play another class or another game. It’s sad but when it’s not fun for you, well…it’s not fun.
Dear Anet devs, please change the combat log into something useful.
A great improvement would be to just write everything, condition damage, pet damage, heals, pet heals, buffs and so on.
Have different options such as showing condition damage, pet damage, etc.
Have an option to show/hide other players damage, enemies, group, guild, etc.
Have an option to show only your damage and only your damage taken.
Don’t hide damage done some time ago and don’t limit the amount of information (not sure why/how it happens but a lot of info just disappears).
This would allow much more build optimization and accurate data about skills in different situations, would help with build testing and such. To me, an accurate combat log is very useful. I’ve made good use of it in all of the other MMOs i played until now (everquest, world of warcraft, age of conan, warhammer online). Some didn’t have great combat logs but they were still far from the clunky log we have in GW2. Everquest and world of warcraft combat logs were insanely useful in choosing your skills, seeing who hit you and how, understanding the fights and many other uses (such as dps calculations).
Please Anet, this combat log really needs to be improved.
Thanks!
Yeah, it’s really poorly implemented. Put up a real search with options like any forum, subforums, all words, any word, etc etc.
I think what I meant with “requires a target” was lost on you Raven. .
I read your whole post man. You yourself came to the conclusion that the functionality of the 1handeds was not bugged or flawed and that it was probably never going to be changed. That really only leaves you with 1 option: another weapon. You suggest (sort of) a new weapon be added. It sounded like what you really wanted was tags though (i mean why else would someone run around swinging a sword but not want to be bothered with targeting or falling into an attack sequence?), so I suggested a build that was well suited for tagging.
Everyone knows how combo fields work. The point is that people (in my experience) dont often go out of their way to cross combo in the midst of WvW combat, or even to just take advantage of friendly area fields (pve or pre-combat might stacking is another story). if in your experience that is the opposite, then keep on rolling man.
This !
If you want tags, we have ways to get them (traps, other weapons). In battle, you don’t have time to care about combo fields or healing others. If when you heal yourself that saves someone else, it’s great, but don’t count on it…just survive, dodge, and deal your damage. Dead people don’t do damage.
Take quickening zephyr instead of sharpening stone. Gives a dps boost AND adds survivability since it breaks stun.
I am not surprised in the least.
At this point in time this game should have had atleast 1 major ‘significant’ performance patch. It hasnt, unless u count the now client side WvW culling options, which did nothing to improve performance.
When a £500 OverClocked CPU can only get ~25 fps+ in a WvW zerg, u know there’s a game engine issue. When its a mmo with people paying into the game, be it be via subscription or microtransactions, there is an expectation of improvment for said performance. We have not had it, nor heared any specific word from Anet to say its coming.
Im a stickler for completing things that are only available for al imtied time, so events for example i always complete. The last 2 or 3 GW2 events i havnt completed, becouse i just dont give a flying monkeys anymore. I havnt played much if at all in the last 2 or so months.
There’s a lot more to smooth gameplay than sheer graphical power. Maybe your connexion is acting up and your computer is not receiving informations fast enough, making it need to compute changes more for the game not to feel clunky. Maybe your overclocked CPU isn’t coupled to a good enough graphics card or your drivers are bad, old and/or do poorly with guild wars 2.
I fail to see how your computer having trouble in WvW is Anet’s fault when some are doing great and not having troubles. If you were talking about the skill lag then ok, but fps drops ? You have tons of options to reduce if you want to improve FPS and if you want to play it with everything on max then…maybe you need to stay in a dungeon and not go to WvW
Do you even have the slightest clue of the difficulty of making an online game ? This game is not quake III, the number of players on a battlefield is huge and your computer has a lot of work to do to bring them to your screen…add the network factor, the collision detections, the game logic, anti-cheat checks, the differences in hardware with all the drivers, processors, OS, ram, gpus and such. Optimizing a PC game is a really hard task.
Have you overclocked your graphic card and/or processor ?
Are you sure your bios settings are correct ? (cpu vcore, ram timings, etc.)
Try resetting them if everything is running on stock settings, something might have been accidentally changed. In addition, try to check if your mainboard has issues with some of your hardware or if you need a bios update.
After doing all this, if everything is fine, try running some benchmarking tools such as OCCT, furmark and such to try and see if the problem comes from your computer or from the game. If those tools don’t crash in several hours (if you want to be really sure, try using them for like 12 hours or so), then for some reason the game has trouble with your hardware.
Also check your computer temperatures with tools like everest. Your computer might be overheating. If that is the case, the crashes will come when the graphic card or processor become too hot.
Remove any dust inside your computer case, make sure the ventilation is doing ok and there is a good air flow inside it.

I don’t feel my norn is small…especially when doing jumping puzzles and i can’t see a kitten thing because he’s too tall and bulky. I didn’t even use the biggest one…that said, i like it the way it is but still to have someone feel that norns are small^^
Maybe it comes from the fact there are huge monsters around or the environments / maps are pretty big…
My gf plays an asura and yeah, it does feel weird whenever i look at her screen x)
Playing a condition damage / trap build in wvw. So far it’s really enjoyable and seems to help with killing people in blobs. The traps are useful (cripple, condition damage) and help do good damage while still moving away from the AoEs.
As others stated, you also have other ways to cripple or damage foes in a big group, use them ! Don’t try to do massive damage, consider condition damage and AoEs, and also AoE cripple/chill or immobilize. They help a lot with the fight as people get trapped in the damage zones. Also the fact that our heal is a zone heal that removes condition does help as well.
This is my current build:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fMAQNAnfVjEV11xVSWo2BimCNZe2DD5oH5UgK/fyoeSD-jkzA4shoh1ApAA0CQiAUKcQr5wEWwiWJLIV4wqZw0oDRVlC7QKiWNA-w
Another option, which is my old build, is to go heal/support with a prec mix. I had good crit which i needed to not do 0 damage but had really good healing and used spirits a lot. They bring buffs to people around you, you can rez people with the spirit of nature and they have a second effect (if you try spirits, don’t forget to use their effects !!). I changed build because i felt i wasn’t doing enough damage but i was really resilient with this build.
My old build:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fMAQNBHhVakoKxusyrC0OAsKkH7hhFyo7Rpme6F39QD-jUzAYLI0GIeTIjaASbAICQpxioxW3CS1Nal3wqaw0qER1ukioVDA-w
Obviously these aren’t the best around, i’m still learning a lot as i go, but i think to be really useful in wvw, we must step away from the classic view of the ranger and try to bring usefulness more than raw damage…there are other class which are much better fitted for this.
It would work if we could run around in berserker’s gear but believe me, with a ranger it’s not a good idea ^^ i do with my thief and it’s funny to backstab people for 6 or 7k damage but thieves have good ways to get away from heat. Rangers don’t.
My norn ranger combined with a wolf warhorn that shows a wolf picture + moon. wish i added my wolf pet and waited till night for another moon, then i had a moon- and wolfception
Very nice, i like it ! Which chest armor is it ?
Here are mines…norn ranger 80, norn thief 80 and the one i’m currently leveling, norn warrior (currently 57).
Yeah i noticed some of them…
Actually made a liam neeson norn…
I also made some tests such as clint eastwood and alain delon when making my first character.
Eastwood was very obvious…i even wondered if it was on purpose by Anet ^^
You obviously never heard of dark age of camelot x)
There is NO point of interest at jofast. Those maps are wrong, believe me, i’ve checked everywhere at jofast and found some discussions about it having been removed.
Jofast is an open camp, you couldn’t miss a POI there and there’s none on the map anyway (since the camp is in open air you’d see an empty square on the map).
edit: turns out i didn’t have shank anchorage’s point of interest for some reason xD i just got it while using the wp to there.
Anyway, there’s no poi at jofast ^^
Thanks for the help anyway guys !
I might be missing something in a cave or something but can’t find it anywhere =/
(edited by Fenrir.6183)
Hi everyone !
I’m currently trying to complete the cursed shore map but can’t find any accurate map of it. They all have a fake point of interest at jofast’s waypoint that doesn’t exist.
I’m only missing one poi and can’t find it. I don’t see it on the map and have checked with the lists i found but since they are inacurrate (jofast camp poi ~~), i don’t know what i’m missing.
I currently have :
Caer Shadowfain
Bitter Mountain
Seachange Tidepools
Cachistic R&D
Winterknell Labyrinth
Gavbeorn’s Landing
