Exactly. I’m so tired of people asking for Thief nerfs when they should be either a) improving their play or b) more attentive. It’s not cheating. It’s not exploiting. It’s using class mechanics to outsmart opponents.

…Maybe that’s the problem. People hate getting outsmarted.

Kitten, even that person on the wall got ganked while they held it and didn’t… bring anybody? before waypointing out.

Amazing thread. I think you’re all on to something here.

Either:
a) Instead of an F1-F4 etc. class specific skillbar, it’s a Class-WvW specific F5 skill. Loot bag themed.
b) A consumable that gives skills loot bag illusions. (Hear that ANet? Put it in the gem store and you’re set.) Engi bombs look like loot bags. Ele meteor shower loot bags. Thief caltrops loot bags. All the great stuff you guys said and more.

I want to roll with this screenshot thing. We should have screenshot scavenger hunts.

For example… a shot that has:

1) me in it (tricky for non-DHers, but that much better if it does)
2) at least one dead player
3) meteor shower visible somewhere in the photo
4) someone emoting (dance/kneel/lie down…etc.)

…something like that.

Of course having me is a bit unfair because I’m not on 24/7… so we could do something like 1) contains every profession. Would be fun “Where’s Waldoing” in all the screenshots though.

So yeah. If anybody would like to try it, throw out suggestions please for something that wouldn’t break the bank but still be an incentive to start taking screenies!

Fizzle, I can’t speak for HoD (or GoM if I’m being honest), but as a player on GoM I think you are giving us credit for being way too organized if you think it is remotely possible anyone is sending a ‘spy’ over to sabotage your workings in WvW. If you could see our map/team chat for about 20 seconds you’d realize how unlikely it is we could get someone go to another tower or keep, much less move to another server.

Hey Fizzlepip, it’s not just you guys that have to suffer fools, be it inexperienced players or so-called saboteurs and spies. It totally sucks, and I agree that sometimes it seems very deliberate (someone draining supply during a siege just to suicide a dozen golems comes to mind), but a lot of it really is inexperienced players and/or ones who just don’t care to work as a team.

Thanks for the heads up and the reassurances. I’m not wholly convinced yet that they even are spies, and I certainly don’t want to sound like I’m accusing whole servers of it, so these sort of things help keep this part of the conversation civil.

After weeks of getting pounded, having such a great match 2 weeks in a row is a relief. I’d hate to see things and the hard work of the few that remain be undone by sabotage.

That said, keep up the great fight guys. Having a lot more fun facing your servers than I’ve had in some time.

i cant speak for GoM, but its amusing to think that your paranoid enough to believe that tier 7 servers are sending spies. HoD has its own problems to have to be sending people away on stupid missions like that. have you ever thought its your own server? maybe inexperienced players or someone who just goes afk? before you throw accusations at your opponents? maybe you should work on your server?

It has been a fair fight, and I’m trying to keep it that way. Thank you for your understanding.

In Darkhaven we teach those that are new to WvW and breach language barriers as best we can. The messages therefore almost always get across. When players dismiss the people trying to help, drain supply, and waypoint away until supply reappears, suspicions arise.

Kryptik tends to be our DH BL keeper. Does a great job keeping an eye on the big picture.

But for the real reason I’m dropping in:

Have some class guys. We’re almost the bottom tier and we have to deal with GoM or HoD plants that drain supply from our towers and keeps and stand at our Lowlands waypoint when its gone. It’s been noticed by multiple people at different times. It’s hard enough keeping people interested in WvW on our server…

I quit WvW every time because of revives

It seems the issue may be more the speed at which people can revive someone from the downed state.

I’ve been in example situation countless times:

Me v multiple others. I get one downed, stealth, start stomping, and the remaining players revive quicker than it takes for me to go through the eternally long stomp process.

Do I think downed state is a broken part of the game? Not at all. Do I think that a 1v1 being busted by by 2 friends that revive quicker than you can stomp is a little imbalanced? Yeah. But unfortunate may be the better word.

I agree with Mickers in that there should be more of a penalty for going downed and getting revived. That downed person screwed up and almost died, that person should continue playing for the next few minutes with some sort of consequence.

All in all, learn to play with it. It’s not so much a broken game as you’re playing it wrong.

I really do find it very unlikely that this is happening. I don’t see Anet allowing it to go on if it were. Wouldn’t that violate their free market philosophy?

There’s a member in another thread that said he has a friend that at one time owned 15 Dusks and was doing exactly this. Even going as far as mentioning that that friend had him place multiple offers for Dusk to drive the price up.

It’s happening; ANet is allowing it. And I don’t blame the people either. I’d be doing it too if I knew what the kitten any of this meant at launch. I loathe the system that says you must work hard for it, but rely on luck to actually get it.

Also, @ xWESTsidex.4980: How many tries? I’d love to, but simply don’t trust the “RNG” system. It’s a horrible way to “earn” something.

Luckily i got The Lover from the Mystic Forge but yeah I agree someone was buying them out. But this isn’t the only precursor this is happening to and whenever the scavenger hunt comes, hopefully the people controlling the market get burned.

Thanks for the busted Precursor system, ANet.

Recently there were just a couple of “The Lover”s on the BLTP. All pretty stable around the ~330g mark with asking prices never jumping above ~275.

Within a day, all of said precursors have vanished, and all of the cronies of the person (or people… also maybe not even cronies but just that insanely wealthy person himself) that bought them up have placed hefty bids that have risen to 340g. (I noticed this an hour ago, when there were 3 fewer bids and it was asked for at ~307. Which means in 1 hour it has jumped almost 40g, something it hadn’t done in a long time.)

Instead of forcing the system to correct for me, I’ll just say: Kitten-kitteny-kitten you, person that’s driving this up to 550g.

Forging Your Precursor

Fizzlepip i 100% agree that The lover has vanished all of last week there was like 4-5 up all the time whenever i checked i finally got enough gold for one and suddenly there gone there’s been none over the last 24 hours and well looking at the bids it goes from 207g to 300g not sure when the gap was put in but if it was after they disappeared would match the scooped theory.

After this i spent around 60g on the MF and got around 1/3 of my money back but no precursor so i stopped would rather just wait for one to appear on the TP.

It’s pretty basic.

Someone buys them all up (or multiple people). Then has his friends but in fake buy orders to drive the price up. Remember how those asking prices were more or less stable for a while now? Now they’ve risen significantly, with many orders being placed in 1 day (many more so than there were being placed for a while now). They drive the prices up, cancel their buy orders, and said person (or people) who scooped the few Lovers up cashes in heavily.

And those of us looking forward to the 330ish buying price will have to earn ourselves another 200g to get it.

Kitten, ANet. Fix this kitten.

And the rest of the Legendary model is equally as ugly, with an excessive amount of grinding. But perhaps the worst offense is that “Legendaries”….just aren’t. There’s nothing skill-based about them, and indeed, it’s entirely possible to obtain them without ever really challenging yourself in this game.

And you’re telling us that you’re not going to address this problem for at least three more months? And your only effective step towards fixing this problem is to introduce even more “incredibly rare RNG drop” locations for precursors in the coming months?

I don’t mean to sound so disappointed, but I really am. This isn’t a dealbreaker for these patches, but I had thought that the dev team understood how serious of a problem they have with regards to Legendaries and providing more high-end gear in more ways and more places. But it seems we differ significantly on what this game’s problems are.

I’m glad that at least it seems we agree that the game’s rewards system is woefully inefficient right now, though. So maybe these patches will still be the decisive boost this game needs. I’m just really sad that one of the game’s weakest areas isn’t currently deemed important enough to fix.

Just looked into this thread. But second this.

I know players that have a Legendary (or multiple) because they’ve gotten lucky. I know players that have put in more time and effort that don’t have one because of being unlucky.

How is that in any way how the system should be working? ANet: look at Everquest’s model for Epics, and take note—make them difficult to earn (kitten, even nearly impossible to earn), but make them earnable. They’re way too easy to get right now if you’ve hoarded enough money and they’re too hard for people that have dedicated a lot of time and effort to find their “RNG” just isn’t rolling. Why is there such a discrepancy between the easy and hard? Make them harder. Also make them not about gold. (The RMT guys are making a fortune off this system alone.)

That said, you wont.

Your goal is to appeal to the much larger casual player base than it is to appeal to the few people that are complaining about this issue.

Oh well. Guess I’ll go blow another hundred gold on the Forge and get nothing in return because someone’s scooped all Short Bow precursors up.

I believe that it’s supposed to be a 1/(how many exotics of said weapon exist)… or something of the sort. But with the botched RNG they have going, who’s to say?

I really want to hear from people that have it simply because someone has bought up all the Short Bow precursors in the past few days, thus driving the asking prices up (probably to the point that said Lover buyer will cash in on the leap from what was ~330 to—quote me, because I can almost guarantee it—~500-~550, as most of the more expensive precursors are) and literally making The Lover impossible to own without gambling on the MF right now.

Forging Your Precursor

Don’t get your hopes up, OP…. I tried to work with the Mystic Toilet the way you did too, but after reforging 256 l75+ exotic shortbows, I’m STILL left with NO PRECURSOR. I’ve stopped at that point, as it’s just stupid. (and you lose gold rapidly with doing it with ShortBows) Currently I’m prettymuch kittened, cause I have everything except the freaking precursor and I’m at the point of putting the game down because of this. (No, I’m not exaggerating…) And the current price of The Lover on TP just makes me want to throw up (300g+ atm)

I haven’t done that many, but enough to dissuade me from trying to continue using the MF. Tho of course there’s that one guy (and many others) that have gotten what they wanted first try…

More to the point of my post: The Lover has VANISHED from the BLTP within the span of these 5 days. Now, I wasn’t able to log on last night to check, and don’t think I checked the day before (I believe last time I saw there were anywhere from 4-7 available), but in no time someone has scooped them all up and subsequently driven the “asking price” up.

I repeat: someone has scooped all the shortbow precursors up… Unless of course there has been a buying frenzy and a few other people like us that only need it rallied together and bought them all at the same time. Unlikely.

Still looking for someone that has forged it, because as of right now I’m under the impression that it has been left from the MF “RNG” (yes those are quotes of doubt) and the only way to get it (truly get it) is buying it. But oh, wait…

Guess I’ll have to wait a couple months for ANet to not be horrible on this one. Why, again, is something that has been determined the “end game” been based on RNG this whole time?

Dodge on thieves seems to be bugged, and I think it’s due to the “shadowy dodge” built into this profession.

I want to piggy-back off this and note that Withdraw suffers from this too.

When immobilized, Withdraw takes a half second to dodge back. Whereas its range is normally twice that of a dodge and happens instantly, there is instead a delay (almost as if struggling to break out of the immobilized) and it moves backward a fraction of its usual distance.

Please fix this issue. Can’t say how frustrating it is that Withdraw fails to actually “cure” immobilized because of this.

I roll a 10/30/15/0/15. Not fully a condition build yet but I’m trying to integrate it more because I’m afraid too many whiners will make crit burst builds less viable.

I can’t live without Mug when I have C&D, and although Thrill of the Crime is basically necessary I switch out to Long Reach frequently because it allows me to jump people sooner. At this point it’s really all about the Sneak Attack and jousting.

Face it, if it isn’t a staff or greatsword, it got screwed.

This. We all know that Greatswords get all the love in this game. He(kitten)ll, you have a choice of 3 Greatswords and 1 of everything else. It’s extremely disappointing that some get particle effects and footprints and options when others don’t.

Makes me want to go back to thinking of creating Incinerator/Bolt/Quip… ANYTHING a Thief could use that’s comparably awesome in skin but has better effects. Shooting rainbows is cool, but not enough.

Somehow she can’t get back into the fractal and we have to reset all that we’d done.

Seriously? Keep ninja-nerfing the Thief without telling us? At some point after the first few times the “oh, that seems to have not made it into the patch notes” excuse doesn’t work.

This stuff happens because the Thief mechanic is so unlike all the others that said people playing other classes have no idea how to deal with it.

Maybe I’ll just roll another class before it’s too late and they kittenstomp us completely… then not tell us.

All fair points, which makes it make a little more sense. Although a channel that hasn’t started channeling yet but is still being cast hits us. I guess that’s just the gray area.

The whole pet thing is still an issue. Not much of a positioning tool if our movements are trackable.

Have they made an announcement that this is working as intended? Or is it just being ignored?

Thieves jump into Stealth and channeled skills still hit us. Pets still follow us around (and if they’re channeling, they follow and still hit us). We can Stealth and a pet will run and stand next to us until it breaks.

Meanwhile, a Mesmer’s Stealth breaks targets (don’t know if pets follow them or not, but the break target is essential to avoid channeling) and they can summon illusions in the process.

Thieves shouldn’t be getting the shaft on this.

Makes the insta-backstab less viable if you’re pure glass cannon build, which was the whole point of Assassin’s Signet in the first place. (Note the basic name of the Signet.)

Also, glad someone else noted that the changes to Heartseeker to discourage the spamming have now been undone. WTG with that.

Am I upset? Of course. People have to stop complaining about Thief’s burst damage and learn to do something about it. Will I tweak and get over it? Yes.

DH here. I have to say, I’m both disappointed and satisfied with how this is going so far. Obviously we’ve moved up in the rankings from our nightcapping (there aren’t as many as people are led to believe, tho, having played late-nite a couple times with them myself) going against non-nightcapping servers. But we haven’t yet found the cohesion and organization that I see in NS in their daytime play.

Can’t say how often I wish everybody’s playtimes synced so we could all duke it out together instead of alternating cap times when each server is more populated than the others. That’s just how it goes I guess.

Also, as of now I’ve had no complaints about either EBay or NS. We don’t run into two servers every matchup that play hard and fight fair and are learning the ropes as we are. Hope to see more of you guys!

Although I haven’t been able to put in the time that some of you have, I sympathize. In their pursuit of “fairness.” they’ve taken it away from the most dedicated players. That’s wrong.

My biggest fear since BWE1 has been that they don’t care enough about the hardcore players, seemingly suggesting that hardcore players ruin casual players’ fun, that being able to put in more time than others is unfair. Seems like well keep continuing that trend.

You underpower yourself when you seek to depower a skill instead of figuring out how to beat it.

Sure, Quickness has one of the best rewards in sPvP. It therefore is also one of the riskiest skills to use. That’s how it should be, and if you learn to avoid it, those people that rely on it will lose to you.

That said, I don’t disagree that the negative effects should linger. A Thief popping Quickness during a Pistol Whip spam can’t take damage while evading and so is less likely to worry about having to dodge. There’s room for minor tweaking there.

I’m having as little fun in WvW as I’ve had yet, and I started with BWE1. I still play though and will continue to do so.

The most important thing about rankings and the 24hr cycle test period was that nobody seemed to recognize that that cycle itself might not be conducive for some major guilds and servers. There needed to have been a second or third way of testing. say, with multi-day battles, that would have more accurately tested scores without counting.

Also, obviously, the server change problem. The only issue now, though, is that if they discontinue it suddenly, the eventual possible evening out will be nixed. People won’t necessarily want to pay the money to change to some crappy server and be stuck because of it.

Imperfect system; imperfect solutions.

Also, because I can’t quote it for some reason: to the guy on the first page that asked about playing sports and that you can’t win all of them: you’re ignoring the fact that that’s the obvious part. It’s that while you’re losing you can’t transfer to the winning team and start beating up on the players you just left. THAT’s what we get with the WvW first impression.

Why Fighting in the Jumping Puzzle Makes You Look Like and Idiot

Actually it’s a lot of fun. And while I dislike getting ganked in the puzzle, it’s also part of the experience and fun that should you die, you’d have to start all over again. I haven’t had butterflies running around a computer game since like… Kithicor in EQ.

If there was anything I’d complain about, it’d be camping the end. IMO it’d be more fun if there was a constant stream of battling—people going in and out and such—rather than a large group waiting at the end to gank anyone from the other servers that makes it that far.

Also, just as a side note, it’d also be cool if they gave traps to people behind others. Meaning atm you can only get hit by people ahead of you with traps. Why not let people behind you get to turn a spike trap on and watch you fail? It’d make it harder.

I think this—or something like it—is a great idea.

I can say for a fact that many people on Darkhaven have given up for this week’s battle because Yak’s is crushing us and Anvil.

Seeing the scores before even being able to log into WvW keeps people out of it.

While there has been some recent movement toward some sort of Guild organization and alliances across Darkhaven’s WvW landscape, there has also been a minor exodus in the wake of the pounding our server is receiving from Yak’s Bend.

The problem? Well, a) Yak’s Bend was way under-ranked (about which I am not and won’t ever complain. Keep it up, actually). b) More importantly, Darkhaven still lacks server wide organization. This is the end product of not having a few heavily populated, vocal, dominant, committed Guilds. What we have instead are many unguilded players, many, many minor guilds looking for that “older brother,” and leaders searching for quality alliances.

People try in chat, but when the PUG zergfest is rolling, there’s no stopping it.

So, if your Guild is on a server dominated by multiple others, and if you’ve wanted the chance to do so with your Guild, Darkhaven is in need. We’re a phenomenally competitive group of players that have numbers to compete with anybody and at times have delivered a pounding to top ranked servers.

This isn’t a plea; it’s a suggestion. Come check us out.
