Druid damage staff build?

Staff is really not an open world PvE weapon, I think you’re going to be miserable. 4 out of the 5 skills are support in an environment where you only want damage.

That said, berserker staff is not terrible damage. I mean it is terrible, but it’s passable. I believe it’s slightly higher damage than longbow autoattack, which is the most painful way to play PvE possible.

You know what feels good? Seeing that full trap guard with Procession of Blades, as a Zeal support bruiser DH, knowing he’s probably going to kill himself from team wide retal. I know I’ve made it happen before.

You know why it feels good? Because this is turret engi level of skill. The build is broken.

What build is broken?

WTF are you talking about???! Are you reading this thread? DH you dimwit. I win close to 100% of my games when I am on or have 2+ DHs on my team. The damage to vulnerability ratio does not exist.

DH is not a build, it’s an elite spec. Please learn the proper use of the terms. When we use the word build, we mean which combination of selected traits/utilities/weapons are you referring to? That is, are you talking about a bruiser? A bunker? A medi trapper? A full trapper? All of these builds use the DH elite trait line, so saying DH is a useless distinction.

Are you even familiar with these distinctions, or should i presume you have a profound lack of understanding on this subject?

Ya everyone is playing DH as a condi roamer, that sounds about right. Stop being dense. If you don’t know what spec DHs are running you aren’t experienced enough to be a part of this conversation.

I didn’t see you quote a price, just saying it wasn’t 4k. While I have no doubt you can make Astralaria for far less than 4k, I spent at least over 3k making it. I did it wrong, but that’s what just what happened. I had basically none of what I needed when I started.

Edit: Out of curiosity I looked up some posts from when I was making it. The total price of the mats and recipes was 3.2k, and I did a lot of “buy now” in the beginner before I realized it wasn’t going to cost like 1.5k. So ya, I wound up pretty close to 4k.

Pretty sure none of the new legendaries ever reached 4k. Except maybe C&C, I never checked the price for that because of how disappointing it looks.

I can’t remember the exact amount I had, but I started with enough money to buy a legendary off the TP, and wound up running out of money. Part of it was that I didn’t look at all the steps before hand and just started buying mats off the TP rather than making them myself. I thought I had way more than enough money and was horrified at the final cost. I’m sure you can make Astralia for relatively cheap if you gather 100% of the mats and time gated stuff yourself, however I wound up in the 3 or 4k range.

I had also sold off hundreds of mystic coins since I had planned on never making another legendary, that didn’t help…

LB has the problem of not synergizing with anything but itself, however that’s a different discussion.

I totally disagree. The stealth automatically synergizes with every skill we have. You can put down a trap, MT, entangle, maul, power, condi, etc. Rapid fire is a comb finisher so you can short that through a torch. There are all sorts of condi and power opportunities.

SB… it doesn’t do anything. If I, Fluffball, were to revamp it? Maybe half recharge on skill 5 if you interrupt something other than an autoattack, with no limit. I.e. you interrupt a heal it becomes 15, interrupt a skill 4 it becomes 8 recharge, etc. That makes SB DO SOMETHING. No added DPS, but something. SB does nothing right now.

Yeap defintely 1200 is a must for sb and an increase in dps..

It’s not a must if they change the other skills. It’s a “anduriell wants”. We both agree SB sucks, but you want it to stay the same and just be buffed, I want it to be reworked.

Right now it doesn’t really do anything, you just autoattack endlessly. Using stealth on LB is fun and has incredible synergy with all sorts of stuff. Using crossfire is not fun and doesn’t have synergy with anything other than on-crit sigils which just encourage more autoattacking.

Axe is a melee range condi weapon, I’d like to see a medium range condi weapon that has some sort of “special” on it like other ranger weapons do. The ranged block or counterattack on GS, the reflects and pull on offhand axe, the stealth on LB… those are all really cool.

You know lb range is 1500 the same as some ele skills or engi nades.

Engi nades are 900.

Regardless, my musing is based on condi being inherently more powerful in competitive than power is. Aside from the range and damage type, LB and SB have pretty comparable skills. They both have a hard CC and the both have some built in defense.

Berserker LB is just inherently weaker than dire SB because of how defensive you can go in condi gear. Even in PvP condi can be a little more defensive.

SB is barely a viable weapon right now, but I’m not sure added range is what I want to see from it. I like it as a medium range condi weapon, I’d just like to see some stronger utility or something change on it. Right now it’s just plain boring, terribly boring.

Dungeon running is now basically Play-How-You-Want. It was never hard, but now it’s never slow because of the absolutely absurd power creep rush. No one cares what you run. all of those ideas have also been rehashed to death. this gets brought up literally every kittening week. its not going to happen. just stop.

Why make arguments ignoring them if they’re so pervasive? If anet introduces a new race, I believe the only way it makes sense is for it to be in a way that ignores your argument for ending this discussion. Adding Kodan into the personal story is beyond ludicrous even not considering development time.

New playable race - good or bad idea?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Fluffball.8307

Fluffball.8307

Search the forums. this gets done about once a week, and the answer never changes. its not feasible for anet to add a new race, either lore-wise, or money-wise. every single VA would have to come back and rerecord the personal story things to account for the new creature, and youd have to redo things like LS1 and LS2 and LS3, and possibly destinies edge to retroactively include the new species, or players of the new species will whine that theyre being left out, blah blah. its just not going to work, theres no reason to keep bringing it up forever.

It does get brought up a lot but you are ignoring the arguments brought up in this thread that you can make a new race part of an expansion. Normally I’d forgive you for not reading but I brought that up in the very first response and it was brought up multiple times after that. No need to redo everything.

This makes a ton of sense. To play devil’s advocate, activating the signets gives several powerful benefits already. And the counter point to that is you blow your utility and trait on a long recharge if someone even passively blocks, which is becoming increasingly common now that this isn’t 2012. Blocks and reflects saturate the game.

Druids alone already do decent damage…Now just add a pet to that.

Even with the pet, druid has the 2nd lowest damage output in the game.

I think that was a PvE stat where the druid is trying to maximize damage. Tank druids can’t kill a kitten thing in a reasonable amount of time and you’re a terrible player if you lose to one in WvW.

Fluffball.8307

Would you lock the ability to play the new race behind completion of the HoT story by another race (or other preceding expansions that might come out before this would be implemented)? I think you’d have to.

I personally would just tie it to buying the largos (for example) expansion. Buy the new expansion, get the new race. The level 80 start is not a big deal now that all new players automatically get a level 80.

It’d still slow down development time going forward, as that new race would need to be programmed for in all future content, including anything done to core tyria.

Would it? What would you change in core Tyria to incorporate a new race? Unless I’m missing something obvious, the only new thing you need is voice acting when applicable, and that isn’t going to tie up the people coding things. A secondary thing would be the very rare change in dialogue you sometimes see based on what race, but that’s usually just a different text box, and it’s not something that’s mandatory for the devs to add.

As far as adding coding time, I assume armor is the big hang up. However I think that can be worked around. Largos have human proportions. Kodan might be able to be assigned norn proportions. Tengu I’ve heard use the charr skeleton, but their bodies would cause horrendous clipping problems… that might be a reason we haven’t see a new race yet. Tengu were the obvious first, but perhaps largos are what anet decided on. /random speculation

Edit: I wonder if you could distort the human speech to sound largos without actually needing an additional voice actor.

New playable race - good or bad idea?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Fluffball.8307

Fluffball.8307

A new playable race stunts new content development, and slows down future content development…. and no, a new race is not new content.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see a new playable race. Just not at what it’d cost in dev time.

Occasionally more options is less healthy for a game.

~EW

It doesn’t have to be a waste. Imagine an expansion for the Largos where their “starter zones” are the maps of the new expansion, all new Largos start at level 80, and their “personal story” is part of the expansion story. You could think of the HoT story as a good precursor to that, in that the sylvari had a minutely different version than other races.

New playable race - good or bad idea?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Fluffball.8307

Fluffball.8307

The argument has always been that it’s semi-wasted content. The personal story is not popular and is only played through once anyway, starter zones are something you use once and then outlevel in an hour of playing, etc. There is not much replayable content for a new race.

Perhaps several level 80 ‘starter zones’ for a new race could be interesting, and this new race starts in the end-game (for example how the Kodan live in what would be level 80 territory). The “personal story” could consist of like 8 new missions that are unique to the new race, almost like a living world update, just something to give the new race some lore. I could get behind that.

Something that GW1 and the original GW2 release had in common was enormous amounts of useless land. GW1 had some maps that were so useless you had to go out of your way into a dead end map just to see some random grass. And that’s awesome. There is a great joy in just running around in new land that you haven’t seen before, maybe fighting some indigenous animal that you haven’t run into before (pinipals!). And you find that hidden little cave with a champ guarding a chest and there isn’t even a PoI. Or that waterfall at the very center of the spiral in The Falls in GW1. No point at all, but insanely awesome.

I understand the desire to concentrate players on the new maps, and pack them full of crazy amounts of content, but people are going to go to that content no matter what. Imagine if HoT had the 4 (now 5) maps we have as the “real maps” and there were also 10 junk maps that were just there for fun with some random events and perhaps even some hearts. No effort put into making them polished, just something to explore in between doing the “real” content.

Anet seemed to brush aside the criticism that HoT was too small, and not having useless maps is definitely part of that.

That’s what I’d like to see anyway. More crap.

Another thing to think about, not sure if it fits your personality, is to find a buddy to duo the game with. GW2 doesn’t use a “tank” system, but if you were using a longbow ranger at max range hiding behind a pet and you had a necro buddy summoning tons of undead cannon fodder to clog up the battle, you’d pretty much never be hit by anything.

Once you reach level 80 and gear up, any profession can very, very easily solo the open world with no dodging.
