I’m pretty sure this guy is trolling lol
Ah the classic “someone said something I disagree with so he’s a troll”. Nice post, thanks for contributing.
Do you have a link to the build? We don’t want to see you killing random idiots we want your ideas.
Thief has pretty much zero group support other than stealth for dungeon runs, which are semi-obsolete.
They’re meta in all 3 modes right now, but I was also thinking of past builds. They infamous cele shoutbow build in PvP was one of the top 5 PvP builds of all time, the infamous WvW hammer train, the infamous CoF speed clear build, etc.
Warrior = GW1 and GW2.
Warrior. It’s been the most consistent profession in GW2’s history. Very rarely is it out of meta in any game mode.
Really? o.o Is it just for their damage, or can they provide good support?
Banners and Phalanx Strength are staples of group support. They also have good damage. And you can trust a total noob to play a warrior well since they’re so simple. Really warriors have excelled at nearly everything since launch.

Probably zerker GS + LB for speed runs. RF will nearly kill anything in one fire, then swap to GS to clean up with maul and swoop to the next target. Or if possible LB autoattack clean up and then double up on swoop with QD. Might be able to put in staff instead of LB as long as your kill speed is good enough. I suspect that would work.
If you have druid I’d take natural stride. Quick draw is a must. Rest is pretty irrelevant, I’d just use the fractals build as a base.
Edit: Was bored and made this.

Full power build -> Zerker
Condipower-> vipers
Condi-> full condi gear with precision
Viper should come out ahead of something like rabid due to condi duration.
Anyway, zerker is the default armor for everyone in any profession. Good to always start with that in exotic and then customize your character with whatever other sets you want.
All enemies are affected by everything for the most part. There are some rare exceptions, like some Destroyers are immune to burning, but they’ll say that up front and center under their name.
The one weird thing is some objects like doors or whatever are not affected by conditions like bleeding, and it doesn’t say that anywhere, but it’s sort of irrelevant/annoying/obvious.
No damage types in GW2, for the most part the only thing affected is animations.
sadly no there are too many warriors as is and most groups don’t need more than 1-2. Take a look at raids and how often u find urself stacking 3+ warriors that ur forced to kick one of them.
The thing is all groups want 1-2 warriors. That means 1) warriors are needed and 2) it’s not important for anything other than raids. WvW, PvP, open world, warriors are solid. Fractals: no ones going to complain if 40 or 60% of your group is warriors. That’s nuts.
Warriors excel at everything.
there is no thesaurus word for amazon.
There are, but they’re insanely sexist. I just looked. I think my favorite is “she devil”. “Fish eater” is good too, I have no idea what means unless it’s just ridiculous…
I have defender runes from back when they were heads above everything else. There are lots of other good options now with the ones you listed, but take a look a defender runes.
They just went way up in worth, in my opinion with the nerfs to CA recharge and HP.
Heh, I can just imagine the chaos trading bots would create because we’ve seen them in the real world stock market.
One second iron ore is going for 3 silver, the next second 2 copper, the next second 12 gold.
Warrior is always the answer for any profession-related question. Anet gives them everything. They’re dead easy to play, they’re impossible to kill, they have range, melee, condi, power, speed, group support, solo damage, etc. The anet logo might as well be a warrior.
It still works, combat speed is slower than out of combat speed and always has been. You’ll go even slower in combat if you turn off your speed increase.
Edit for completeness:
If you want to run past enemies as fast as possible, you have 3 choices.
1) Dodge, evade, or block every attack to avoid triggering combat (and don’t passively attack them like you are with a necro warhorn [or with necro minions]). In open world PvE this is pretty trivial to do.
2) Use stealth to run past them.
3) Use movement skills such as teleports and leaps, which are not affected by movement speed.

Open world is a sandbox where you run whatever you want. Whatever makes you happy.
If you want to just wreck open world, then use fractal build and adjust as needed (i.e. you may want a speed boost or less party support.)
Thank you for the replies but what is TP?
Trading Post. Rares can go for as much as like half a gold because people use them in the Mystic Forge to try to precursors. Well that’s my understanding of it anyway, I never mess around with the MF.
And with ectos selling for like 20 silver, you come out ahead in the long run. Sometimes you’ll get 3 ectos from a rare salvage, a lot of times you won’t get any. Selling the rare will be like 20 silver minimum.
TP is better for rares. TP will usually get you more for exotics too, but make sure the rune or sigil isn’t worth a lot. Some runes go for huge prices, and in that case use the BL kit.
Basic for everything else.
Question for those good with all professions:
From what I can gather, everyone is pretty grumpy about this patch. If everyone got slightly nerfed I’m happier with how things are going. Is that accurate?
I am sort of shocked adrenal health berserkers didn’t get toned down a bit though. Those things are ridiculously cheesey and annoying. They’re like a more passive version of gs/staff druid.
force any opponent facing a Ranger to stand still.
We can arranged that already.
I used to run that in sPvP. Also with my trapper roaming build pre HoT. Not sure I’d go back but do post about it. I’m wondering if it is viable. Not trap runes, but just the general play. I just can’t see using that bow due to the failed range.
I almost exclusively roam and the range I get when I run zerker LB is not highly useful. It’s DEVASTATING in small group fights, I mean you can single handedly change the course of a 10v10 PUG fight. But for solo roaming, LB is mostly utility. I think SB can compete now, or at least that’s my gut feeling without having even equipped one yet.
I’m going to try SB + S/T or Staff in a condi slanted cele build probably this weekend. The SB changes look usable. Will have to play with the traits quite a bit.
But i have to say i am dissapointed too because i wanted a buff to the unused vanilla pets especially devourer and porcine as also buffs for spirits or an entire rework of them, maybe next time.
When you start listed vanilla pets that could use a buff you eventually get around to all of them. They’ve already said the root problem can’t be fixed because they’d have to redo all the animations or the pets can’t land any attacks.
They really should just release like 15 new pets in the living world stuff and give everyone in PvP access to them. What a missed opportunity, I mean even Dry Top has neutral beetles in it. Just make them pets that can land an attack, and boom ranger actually has a profession mechanic.
I know it’s a bad ranger patch (mained ranger last 3 months and for first time ever,
Oh you poor sweet innocent child. Usually it’s much worse.
It’s not TOO bad. I usually save my SotP for when I think I’m really going to need it, while I know many PvPers use it liberally. So I’m biased.
The one that is going to hurt is the CA recharge.
Part of your problem is probably not sticking with any one profession. The game starts you out simple and then gradually gives your character much more complexity.
You can do some really fun stuff with traits.
50/50 is a BIG grind. It was fun when GW1 was active, but I don’t know that it would be much fun today. It takes enormous amount of money and massive time-grind on titles unlike pretty much anything in GW2.
I had a lot of fun doing it at the time though, so if you get really into GW1 it might be worth it for you. I would liken it to making like 5 legendaries in GW2.
Anet already doesn’t care about the fact that pets are the ranger’s mechanic. I wouldn’t put it past them to remove pets entirely and ranger is just the “doesn’t have a mechanic” profession.
1) Again, just don’t fight underwater, the skills on every profession are not balanced at all.
2) You misunderstood, don’t kill the pet, CC it.
Your problem is that you lack a heal. The rev heals are very interactive. Read what they do and then do it, for example a common comb is to use the Shiro heal + unrelenting assault.
Also it’s likely you’re using the Glint heal wrong, read what it does.
1) Don’t. WTH are you doing underwater anyway??
2) You can’t stop a dead pet from reviving so CC the pet or poison the druid if you have 2 or 3 people.
As a druid main I have died to a single person who understands what’s going on, but it’s just so pointless. Underwater combat is ridiculous for every profession, like thief.
Edit: And if are a glutton for punishment you can ignore my advice and just kill the druid like 5 times in a row and then he will be instantly defeated.

If you’re not in voice chat, there isn’t really much need to communicate. Watch the minimap and make the obvious decisions.
I honestly forgot how useless CA was. I remember making a post after one of the preview weekends saying I would never use druid over ranger. Glad that got sorted out.
Amazons are women, bruh.
And dragonhunters (!= dragonhuntress) are men :I.
Not to internet argue about something pointless, but “hunter” is gender neutral, like “police officer”. It’s like you wouldn’t have an ele elite spec called “witch” because that is always a woman and “warlock” is always a man. You might be able to get by with the warlock thing because less people are familiar with the term.
I assume you got the name and theme from Diablo 2, but that forces your character to be a woman. A better name than amazon might be… tribal warrior or something.
Did you try the LFG? I don’t meant to be condescending but you might not know it exists. Hit ‘Y’ I believe it the default.
It triggers on-swap traits and sigils. For example ranger axe/torch + axe/torch max DPS can only be triggered via the trait quick draw. Without the “weapon swap” your damage plummets through the floor.
Edit for clarity: There are other reasons for some builds, I was just listing one.

Amazons are women, bruh.
If they nerf HoT pets again it’s confirmed anet is as clueless as a 95 year old grandma at a rave in San Fransisco. They keep repeating over and over and over and over again they want to improve pets, give core pets some lackluster cooldown reductions and then wonder why no one uses them. Nerf HoT and druid and then wonder why no one uses ranger at all.
Until our profession mechanic can land an autoattack, lay off the nerfs.
I power leveled my rev last halloween in the labyrinth, gained like 16 levels in an hour or something totally ridiculous. There will be plenty of groups advertising in the LFG. The bigger your zerg the better assuming you can tag everything. Use every kind of XP bonus you can get ahold of.
It’s probably the only thing they could nerf about druid that I don’t mind. I imagine they’ll also obliterate everything that makes druid playable as payback to me.
Just for the sake of creating your own build, you’ve also got WH, jungle stalker, and clarion bond. And if you want to get really fancy pants, you can add in fire fields since WH and CB are blast finishers. Before the axe update I ran those 3 things + WHaO and SotP and that pretty much takes care of your might.
Edit: And for some reason I can’t remember I was running Most Dangerous Game in WvW last week and it was putting up some impressive might stacks.
(edited by Fluffball.8307)
This has been the issue with every poll they’ve done. Why can’t they test the gall dang link before posting it?
One other thought which may be total basics that you already know: Engi and warrior have the two least intuitive heals in the entire game. Again you may know this but if not, don’t activate the warrior’s healing signet (usually), and the engi healing turret is dropped, overcharged, and then exploded. Really over the top weirdly designed healing skills that a ton of newer players use just plain wrong.
Huh, wasn’t expecting you to be in exotics.
Is it the story enemies that are causing you trouble, are you fine in open world core Tyria? Some instances are more difficult than others; if you’re ok in core Tyria I wouldn’t worry too much about it. You may be fighting an unlabeled “boss” or just in a story instance that is supposed to be slightly harder. The balance of them is often all over the place IIRC.
You can also do story instances with a friend or random stranger for help, although you may want to find the root of the problem so you do better in harder content like the expansion. If you see me online I’d be happy to play with you but not just explode the enemies for you and see if I spot anything obvious.
One final thought is to check your build. Are you pretty familiar with traits, have them all assigned, and in a way that makes sense? For example if you’re using a bunch of condi traits and skills/weapons in pure power gear, it’s not going to work.
How is your gear? You need to keep updating it so it stays within about 5 levels of you. The cheapest way is to use karma after completing hearts, or buying the stats you want in rares off the TP will give you some more oomph. Make sure you’ve got things like shoulder armor and trinkets equipped too.
This is the most common cause of new players struggling, if that’s not the case we can delve further.
GW1 rangers had something vaguely similar to GW2 thief initiative that meant they could just spam skills. So picture a hammer warrior with no skill recharge. It was a very popular build.
GW1 rangers were beasts, lethal traps, hammers, best interrupts in the game, best degen in the game….
Some of the most fun I’ve ever had in any video game was playing Diablo 2 while using a random number generator to choose my traits (or skill tree, can’t remember what it was called.) I played thousands of hours doing that. No amount of silly build planning can compare to being forced to problem solve with the resources you’ve got.
