What does it mean ? What is the measure of Above average in current term ? Being in certain division in this season ? Or subjectional judgment from experts on this forum ?
No, the objective definition of ‘above average’. If you’re placed on any random team against any other random team with MMR totally ignored, you’re going to win more than 50% of the time.
It’s pretty easy for experienced players to quickly see if someone is at this level or if they’re significantly below grade (i.e. missing game-changing dodges, going for beast at the wrong time, not taking critical things like stun breakers and using them at the wrong time, and so on), which is why I suggested YT highlights or etc.
When in doubt, go with the obvious definition rather than inventing new ways to judge people.
It’s probably unlikely/not worth it anet goes off on these guys, but this sort of stuff enrages me. Stealing art is not ok, I would sue the pants off those people.
I’m curious if anyone who is a better than average player is stuck in emerald, or if it’s a vocal minority of inexperienced players who think they’re better than they are (Dunning Kruger ).
Is there anyone who is in that situation that can somehow show the community that they are indeed a good player (perhaps community tournament wins, a 65% win ratio over thousands of games, YT highlights, etc.)?
Let’s ignore ruby because that is where most players are supposed to wind up.
Hopefully this isn’t seen as an attempt to belittle anyone, I honestly wonder if anyone has fallen through the cracks or if people are just upset they can’t climb higher than their skill and experience allows.
Wait what? I don’t think TP and I have ever argued anything heatedly. I suppose both of us tend to write things too tersely, but we don’t attack each other personally. Anywho, moving on.
Once I hit legend I’ll probably do the profession achievements and ruin a whole bunch of games in a row because I don’t have any other choice if I want that backpack.
What is the main issue when it comes to Entangle is that you loose your only stun-breaker. It can be worth if you went for a WS stunbreaker build, but you don’t.
Wait why do you lose your stunbreaker if you trait WK? LR is great and traited, SoR is great un traited. And GoE has an outstanding cooldown even untraited.
I would pick your elite based on what you’re traited for because the CD reduction is so large. Both are amazing elites and can compete with each other, so CD seals it for me.
In my WvW build I take both glyphs and PM, for PvP it varies a bit but S&R, GoE, PM, and SoR are all used. You can never have too many stun breakers as useful as PM, SoR and GoE. (And if you wind up traiting entangle, LR is excellent as well.)
If you want to take a canine over a HoT pet, I’d go with wolf, it’s like a better version of drakehound since fear is more debilitating and harder to get out of. You could always take both wolf and smokescale and get 2 knockdowns, cripple, and fear; keep smokescale as your general pet for blinding with LB, actually hitting the target, and might stacking then when someone gets close hit them with KD, taunt, and fear. Spider is another option. I personally prefer bristleback and wolf.
I enjoy the terrain of the entire center of the map, it has some really interesting levels. The problems are the tiny side nodes with glass panels. Hammer isn’t too bad, just needs damage toned down slightly or longer recharge.
That cast time is definitely made up for in the duration. You most likely need to chain it together with other CCs unless you’re using it on a group.
Back in the day drakehound KD + howl, MT, and entangle meant your opponent was dead. But these days it’s more like GoT, ancient seeds, taunt, daze, etc.
Either one works, but you a) need WS which most people no longer take and 2) immob is more vulnerable to condi removal than the harder CCs.
I kept MT on my bar almost regardless of build or weapons for 3 years. It’s an awesome skill, although it does take some getting used to since it so slow.
The only reason I don’t use it anymore is mostly because I no longer trait WS. Glyphs and shouts are also new and shiny and very strong.

I ran into you on your revenant the other day, Archon.
Uh oh! I am sure that was a tough fight for me, especially against someone of your caliber!
. Highly skilled Revs are the toughest opponents to face. Hands down. And I can barely use that class at the moment!
Ha, I’m pretty mediocre in 1v1s, I just get by on having played too much.
I thought for sure it would a be tough match since I recognized your name and revs are nasty, but unfortunately your teammates gave up pretty quickly. Oh well, I got a tag on you at the mid fight as a trophy.
I ran into you on your revenant the other day, Archon.
That’s weird, it still works for me. There is a debug command, maybe try that?
DH is complete crap in PvP in my opinion, and beyond useless in WvW roaming. As far as I know they aren’t really used in PvE either, but I’m not into that scene much anymore.
I feel a ranger should be a master kiter, making use of traps, immobs, cripples etc.
We are.
You do damage while watching grass grow?
There are a few players with over 10,000 ranked wins. You’re not pro, you’re extremely new to PvP.
Practice in unranked on various professions until you figure out what you’re supposed to be doing.
Doubt they even have specific developers on professions anymore, I think Roy is on creature animations or something. Maybe there is a team working on the next ex-pacs elite specs.
This is a L2Play issue. OP is clearly inexperienced with the high skill required to play PvE in Cursed Shore. You have counters available at your disposal. Risen shouldn’t need a nerf until those kitten centaurs get nerfed first. If anything, some risen are comparably weaker than others and they need to be brought up to par.
This is a parody post lampooning typical player mentality when it comes to balance in general and specifically profession balance. First they call you out you don’t know the profession/mechanic, tell you to “git gud”, scapegoat to other professions/mechanics, and call for power creep.
I dunno, if someone wanted a nerf to open world, especially core Tyria I’d be on the side of your parody. That’s like “nerf Dora the Explorer she’s too violent.”
100% of all ranked players are using necro right now.
I have plenty of similar screenshots as does everyone on this forum. I don’t understand why anet can’t see 10 necro matches are boring. Screw balance, it’s BORING.
staff skill #2 … idk
staff skill #4 (although it looks cool) doesn’t have much use for me.
staff skill 5… cool Idea.. but I wish it was completely replaced. I never use it.staff skill #3, is awesome.
Staff if a PvP weapon so it’s not surprising you don’t find it very useful in open world. Skill 5 is very powerful in a competitive environment. And apparently in the new raid as well.
5. Who to target? (Necro usually first but not always)
This is sort of off topic, but I find the “just target necro*” spam to be a little simplistic and often costs you the team fight at the start of the match. Yes we all know necros don’t have blocks and invulns and what not, but if they’re being healed by a tempest they’re just bullet sponges. Tempest friggen explode if they get burst by a team. Bait out their invuln, go for the necro, then boom goes the dynamite dead tempest. What do they have, 10k health? With no stun breakers?
*Edit: I meant in team chat, not your post.

Using it up.
It’s not just the condi clears guardians have to worry about, it’s the boon corrupt of reapers and the lowest possible health pool.
Obviously any sort of cleric build on any class is going to be relatively durable, but cleric guardian is not a good matchup for reaper. It doesn’t help it would be effectively impossible to even threaten the reaper, who is free to do whatever the hell he wants to you.
I see a ton of over-rotations. Like we’ll decimate mid, then I’ll run to help home and shortly after we 2v1 home one of the guys from mid shows up to do absolutely nothing, we lose mid, game descends into chaos, we lose the game.
As for what I’m messing up, I think it’s mostly that I am not that great of a mechanical player. I get by on experience and what I’d like to think of as intelligence choices. Usually that’s enough, but in those super tough grindy matches that end 490 to 500, I often feel I am directly responsible for the loss due to a bad 1v1.
I’m in diamond, 100% solo q with the exception of a single game because I didn’t want to turn down the guy’s invitation. We lost, and I left. It’s been totally fine, I haven’t had any problems. Did the usual win all the time till early-mid ruby or so, and now I’m at probably 60, 65% win rate. Been really good matches, everyone in mid ruby and above has proven they are at least competent. Very rarely do I just wonder wtf someone is doing, even if I don’t always agree with their choices.
Guardians don’t tank well against necros, and 100% of all ranked players are using necro right now.
Reaper or ele. Zerk ele is a little fragile though, might want some soldier’s gear in there.
Hit dismiss.
can’t be reflected.
I can’t immediately think of a single PvE enemy that reflects.
Well zealot’s and cleric’s are power and healing power (zealot’s is somewhat difficult to acquire.) But what I’d do is just mix and match random crap, take anything with healing power and power.
I’m not sure I would remove the Leap Finisher on Rocket Charge entirely, but I would reduce it from 3 finishers to 1.
Seems fair, especially since they inexplicably nerfed Swoop to only have 1 leap finisher (then give scrapper a leap with 3 finishers??)
I want something with Rifle. Anything with rifle.
I googled ranger and apparently the WoW hunter uses a rifle. That seems like a very likely thing for anet to take and make their own.
When I think of hunter I think of the … like “A Bard’s Tale” hunter that dual wields melee though. And jesus, Bard’s Tale came out in 1985. I’m old as kitten.
Surprisingly reasonable. I completely agree with everything.
Its hard but I found a build that works quite well.
Since I can’t multi-class at a high enough level, I’ve been swapping amulets regularly. Mender for reaper heavy teams, paladin for rev heavy teams, marauder/berserker if they have like… 2 tempests and a druid. I’m kind of leaning towards marauder as the default…
I’d love to get some scrapper or revenant games in but I’m just not good enough to not set myself back 10 tiers.
From diamond? I think it’s 7 tiers at 5 pips each, so 35 pips. With a 100% win ratio (win streak bonus) that would be 19 games. That goes WAY up for each loss though.
100% solo, with the exception of a rather nice necro that invited me and then we lost for 1 game and I left. My queues have only been ~ 5 minutes each.
Complete and total garbage, it’s close to the lowest damage weapon in the entire game. Only use it for healing (I equip it during the tower-phase of dragon’s stand) or for movement, like gathering dailies.
I know some of you already had legendary 2 weeks ago, but I have so little time to bust these games out.. last season I only made sapphire because I had a total of 15 days played over the entire season (just barely made that first achievement!)
So diamond is makin’ me feel really good right now! I hope to get legendary even!
What is the secret to killing the glass evadeattack spamming thieves on my glass ranger. I need to know, ty.
CC, if you land 1, wait for the port, hesitate a little long for the dodge, then land the next. Or just spam CC all over the place.
That’s a tough match up, worse than it has been in like 2 years though.
after a disappointing HOT i might consider the next one carefully….
I think that’s the overwhelming consensus. I expect the next expac to be priced like an expac. 20 bucks or something. I’d pay 20 bucks for a melee ranger elite spec and some new content.
Pip range apparently has been already increased
I doubt it was increased. Didn’t they always say it would eventually expand to find players? There aren’t a lot of legendaries yet.
And honestly, at diamond and up, who cares how many pips apart everyone is? I’d even go as far as t4 ruby. It’s all the same.
If nothing else works, I’ll create some fun All-Ranger PvP…
Ugh god I ran into a 3 ranger PUG the other day (edit: on Khylo of all places ). Was impossible to kill anything. I didn’t know whether to be happy for my profession reppin’ so hard, or kittened I lost my winning streak.
(edited by Fluffball.8307)
Wow, that is very, very whacky. And man does that take me back in time!
If I were you I’d probably wind up storing them just for keepsakes.
It would be interesting to actually go and count the nerfs for each profession over the past 4 years, but you’d have to be pretty bored to do that. Ranger probably leads. Regardless, it’s pretty irrelevant since not all nerfs and buffs are equally impactful.
I mean druid/new pets put us in a reasonable spot for PvP (colossal buff to core ranger; compare and contrast to warrior and berserker), and sure we’ve been nerfed relentlessly since, but we’re still at least usable. Don’t forget the days after spirit ranger died when people would give up before a match started if they saw a ranger on the team. And I do agree with Lettuce we’re still (and honestly have been since day 1) one of the best 1v1 classes in the game. Not necessarily the PvP meta druid, although that’s extremely good, but many WvW builds are absolute monsters in 1v1s.
Anything ranger-y I can think of is already sort of covered. Trap-y “guerrilla” is already a playstyle in WvW, the rogue “scout/hunter” type thing (s/d+gs melee ranger), “archer” is self explanatory, “nature mage” (obviously druid), “beast master” is basically everything ranger, throwing weapons are covered with a/d/t.
I think the next spec is something we don’t really expect at all, like dragon hunter for guardian or scrapper for engi. Or possibly going much further with one of the above directions. I am personally really hoping for something melee based.
It is impossible to face a full team of primates as a full soloQ group. Beyond that, I can’t guarantee you much.
What the heck kind of aliens are you playing against?
Another way to prove spamming doesn’t work: Go to gw2efficiency.com and compare stats on your main to stats on classes you don’t know as well. I have ~60% win rate on my main and ~23% win rate on some others. My rotations are the same, only difference is I’m not using the skills properly.
I don’t think you have played many other games than gw2 if you don’t see how much spamming is going on on certain classes right now.
Ok, but that’s not what the topic is. You’re going to lose 100% of your fights to mediocre players if you’re just smashing buttons. There can’t be a meaningful discussion about “spam” when people are saying quote: “A bad player spamming skills is almost as effective, if not as effective as a good player using their skills in a smart way.” That’s clearly not even remotely accurate.
