I’m sure there will be some kind of update in the future after people get tired of grinding hero points on every alt.
Probly not. You can unlock an elite spec in about 15 minutes. There are tons of 10-point communes, most of them in VB (the first map.) I did it on all 9 professions.
It’s a shame you don’t want to learn the game well enough to play the new content. (I imagine you’ll take that as an attack because this is the internet, but it’s not meant as one.) There is a lot of fun to be had exploring the new stuff, and it’s really quite easy if you learn some basics.
The internet is pretty much the worst thing to happen to humans, atrocities and disasters aside. I feel bad for anyone born after about 1985. Never got to experience nice people.
… on the other hand, thanks to some very supportive online communities, I’ve found the internet to be a much nicer and supportive place to me than the real world.
Yay. Good!
My experiences have been miserable, this is one of 2 non-news sites I visit after 20 some years of learning the hard way how awful people are. (In a non-emo way, I’m not damaged or anything.)
I’m not talking about druid, that’s an entirely different class as far as I’m concerned for OW content.
Being immune to conditions is not the only requirement that makes a profession optimal for OW content. I’m aware of SoR and I believe the reason I haven’t added it to the OW farming build is simply because a 10 second condition removal in OW is pretty useless; most conditions you have in OW are over by that point. An active cleanse on a longer CD is better in OW.
Core ranger still has more condi removal options than any other profession (again, last time I checked, I haven’t been keeping a tally.)
This is pretty off topic though IMO. We’re talking minutia here. All I said was I can’t believe ranger hasn’t been mentioned, since it’s widely regarded as the king of open world/afk champ farming.
Ranger doesn’t make the top of my list: it doesn’t have easy access to cleanse
Whaaaat? Ranger and druid have a LOT more condi cleanses than any other profession last time I checked. For open world I nearly always use SoR just for convenience. If you want to take a WvW build into PvE for whatever reason, you could be effectively immune to conditions.
Edit: I would also argue a pure zerk ranger with sword/axe + LB and damage pets is pretty optimal for HoT open world. A hell of a lot easier than daredevil, no question about it.

There is also very little world exploration where that makes much of a difference.
Yes but there is very little world exploration where anything makes a difference. We’re talking the difficulty equivalent of rolling a ball across the floor. Why not take the one that does all the “work” for you and lets you easily solo every “boss” in the game?
The internet is pretty much the worst thing to happen to humans, atrocities and disasters aside. I feel bad for anyone born after about 1985. Never got to experience nice people.
RANGER
I have literally seen Druid fight off 3 people, not dying, while downing at least one out of three every 5-10 sec.
How are we supposed to take you seriously when you write this stuff?
I’m surprised ranger hasn’t been brought up more. There is literally nothing easier in the game than a LB ranger hiding behind a pet. Stupid way to play, sure, but it’s easy AF (astral force :P)
Thanks all for the advice, but quick question do guardians multi task at all?: Like support and do decent dps at the same time? Do they buff allot?
Everyone has ways of doing damage and simultaneously supporting, and it’s a core, critical element of the game.
I doubt it, primordial legends are sticking to their primordial title; now that says a lot. Now if by season, you meant meta included then it’s up for debate, otherwise last season (S1) was better.
I think people are doing that because exalted legend sounds generic and primordial legend sounds bad kitten .
Beasts are actually incredibly important in ranked because PUGs don’t have the organization to make ignoring them the better choice. If you get both beasts at start, who cares if you only have 1 point, you’re like half done with the game, and random players respawning are messing up the rotations anyway.
I’m not saying rush beasts and ignore mid, but beasts are game changing advantages if one side totally ignores them as though they’re on TS in ESL or something.
You’re looking for engi if you like to press a lot of buttons and be versatile.
A lot of people would say ele without thinking, but PvE ele is not complicated at all. PvP ele is where you press all the buttons.
That said, all the classes can be insanely complicated if you want to truly master them. Try playing ranger while fully controlling your pet, like controlling when and where they use AI skills. That’s critical for PvP, less so for PvE.
This is very true, once you begin to play other classes, you can see what your opponent is doing and are able to counter much more easily
It also makes you less likely to whine for nerfs on the official forums.
They are ugly as sin.
I rather enjoy most of the 7 sins!
So far, none I’ve liked better than the weapon skins I already have, or else they didn’t fit the class that I use the weapon on.
I actually don’t like Twilight that much but I had to make it because it matches my color scheme perfectly.
It does make you a better PvPer to play other classes, in a way that just reading about them doesn’t accomplish.
If someone was an expert at every single profession, that person would be an absolute nightmare to duel.
I just started a new legendary after seeing how absurdly cheap the precursor for the torch is. Why isn’t that worth like 1k gold? It looks amazing.
Because then people can just bunker points all day. The other objectives mean you have to make a trade-off. Without them, the games would be stale and boring.
Kyhlo.
Cleary Khylo has a secondary mechanic. The trebs are used even in ESL games.
And the clocktower is almost a mechanikitteno itself.
Learning to use the profession mechanic is probably the single most important thing that inexperienced players miss out on. Just using it even if you don’t know what you’re doing is going to help.
Sometimes, personal experience can be worth a thousand Phds.
I’m assuming you’re the type of person who thinks a google search is soooo much better then legitimate medical expertise.
If he goes to a MD (hopefully he doesn’t go to a PhD) the doc will just tell him video games often give people headaches. Since we know what GW2 is, we can offer suggestions about how HoT is different from core Tyria.
My guess would be framerates. Is BDO stressful on the comp and has low framerates as well?
And for what it’s worth, there are a lot of people with doctorates that play GW2.
Here you go.
Awesome! That will be fun to rewatch in a year.
actually PVP was the only game mode were the leap was useful, to stick to
Zelda doesn’t have the slightest idea what he’s talking about.
PvP for sticking and also WvW is losing massive functionality. Sword gets infinitely better the more targets there are. I always bring up FrouFrou’s video where she was reported for hacking because she was bouncing around in a 1v5 or something and no one could kill her. Also in zergs, I know I’m not the only one who would “zerg surf” with stability up to pummel the backlines then quickly get back to your own zerg.
I found this while looking for an old post:
Our heal skills are some of my favorite across all the professions, all 3 are really good in the right situation and that’s awesome. Most professions have 1 viable heal skill.
It really sucks they removed healing spring from our 4rr$3nal. I’m not sure why that had to happen. We had the most interesting and useful heal choices bar none, and now we simply don’t. I know you can still force HS in PvE, but it used to be a highly valued choice in all game modes and that was intentionally killed purely for the sake of stuffing it into “traps”.
Edit: Think about the days when HS was probably the single best healing skill across every profession in WvW. Now it’s nearly not used at all because of a simple skill type assignment.
(edited by Fluffball.8307)
That’s not really a fair fight. DH has almost nothing to offer against a druid. And it shows; I only watched the first fight and then randomly clicked through the video, you basically had full health and several heals available the whole time.
Not to be a Negative Nancy, not trying to criticize you or anything.
That applies only to foe drops; profession doesn’t affect bags.
Oh of course, I should have known that… just like magic find not affecting them.
Seriously, if you haven’t seen the current Sword AA on male norn or asura yet, then you’ve missed out and should check it before it goes away.
If anyone is able to record and has an open character slot, it would be great to have a video of all the races doing the sword auto before it’s gone forever. Even if you hate the mechanics, I think everyone is going miss this animation a lot!
About a year ago they updated it so that you get more profession specific gear. So whatever mats you need (leather, cloth, etc) use that profession. I think cloth is the most valuable but I don’t really bother with that stuff, I just instantly TP everything.
TLDR I am probably going to be asked to replace someone in ESL soon.
Honestly people are overrating the importance of the “gap closing” element of the leap.
Don’t tell us what we value and how highly we valued it. You got your way, stop arguing this point.
It should be a net gain for PvP.
I agree I think this is a minor gain for PvP. For WvW massive nerf. For PvE irrelevant.
If I had to guess, Id say they maybe increased pet buff on skill 3
That would fall in line with their statement saying they want to connect the ranger to the pet more back when they were talking about the direction each profession would go.
I think we’re over thinking this though, I bet they did nothing. #GlassHalfEmpty
I’m pretty skeptical they thought this through… I have a bad feeling they just caved to the masses of non-ranger-mains who want to log onto druid for 1 day a year, left the skills 100% as-is and just removed the rooting, which is a situational nerf. We see from the twitter video they didn’t add superspeed like a few people have suggested. (Can you see conditions on target golems?)
Undeniable nerf in WvW, probably equal or small gain in PvP, sort of irrelevant for any form of PvE (small loss in open world, small gain in hard content). Net loss.
Eh, I’ve been bracing myself for this for years, we have to take Justine’s advice.
Heh, I totally predicted this arguing!
I dislike them changing it and feel we lost something invaluable, but I’m in the frame of mind that “I figured it would come eventually, it’s done, and now let’s see what the new autoattack does.” Hopefully this isn’t a let down for all of us.
I occasionally take my WvW condi mesmer into PvE and she is slow and steady. Not good for group instances, but for open world she gets it done just fine. Then again so does everything…
Eye floater, because you aren’t familiar with this forum, you’re missing that the post I was responding to was unquestionably trolling. This happens extremely frequently on this forum.
His post doesn’t even have anything to do with your post; he just picked a random thread and talked about druids being OP. And clearly he succeeded since this thread is now wildly off topic. And apparently I succeeded in calling him on it because he left.
This has nothing to do with your topic or even you. You were the victim of a drive-by ranger hate post.
Sad to see the old animations go. Hope the entire chain strikes up to 3 targets and the 2nd strike still applies cripple. Cheers for this change.
Ya this is the actual important part of the change. Now that we have a basically repurposed warrior animation instead of one of the most unique weapons in the game, what does the autoattack do to make itself special? If it’s just “hit your foe with a sword” 3 times, I’ll be weeping in the corner.
nevermind I found it…. why the hell do they post crap on twitter instead of their own forums….
Probably reddit too. The “official” forums see very little dev action.
Well this is going to be a kitten storm.
I like losing tiers and divisions starting at emerald, but I’d prefer a lot less pips in total. I love me some PvP, but I’ve stopped playing it entirely because there are so many kitten tiers in every division.
I know it’s completely psychological, but it makes my normal few games a day feel like grind instead of just playing a few games for fun.
Basically: Fewer games but with more at stake.
As I understand it, the speed we move in combat was the intended speed for the entire game, but beta testers said it was too slow, so we got out of combat speed.
I can’t source that though.
I don’t see why you need to turn this into a flame war. I reported the thread anyway. Calm down, dude.
It’s not clear by your post if you mean me or Rodzynald is not being constructive. If you mean me, then you’re out of the loop. The ranger forum has a constant flood of people who play other professions coming here posing as rangers and posting utter nonsense like this. “Oh ranger is so easy, I mean I love it since I’m a ranger but I don’t think I should be able to solo 4 other players at once.”
These types of posts are just people who play necro or something and got killed by a ranger, and it’s absolutely infuriating to see this kind of crap spammed in every 5th thread. REALLY annoying and really brings down the whole forum when people do this and mods let it go.
You don’t even need to use the search function, just have working eyeballs.
Season 1 was a different type of season all together; Anet was experimenting with what living world meant. S1 was all big open world events rather than story instances, so it’s not possible to replay it. Think ‘world bosses’ kind of stuff.
Also before you buy S2, know that it’s no where near the length of the personal story. It’s like… I don’t know an hours worth of content? That’s why I suggested gold instead of real money. Totally up to you of course, and it was fun regardless of how much content it was.
That doesn’t stop you from leaping through many world bosses though because they have a target box but no actual “enemy”. Think of Tequatl or Claw where it’s just a random spot on the ground you’re supposed to attack.
I don’t think it’s worth paying real money for, but if you have enough gold with nothing to do I would get it. 1600 gems is what, 200 gold or something? So pretty reasonable for many players, although maybe not you since you’re new (that might sound like a fortune!)
You can read a recap on the wiki if nothing else.
There’s only like 4 enemies out of millions so it’s not that big of a deal. And fortunately the extra damage from a sword over GS isn’t critical for open world bosses.
If you don’t feel like swapping weapons, you can always use axe 4 (quickdrawed), part of the autoattack and then 3, 5 cut short, part of autoattack and the 2nd axe 4 (or whatever the exact order is), and then go back to LB, i.e. just use the sword and avoid the leap. The damage drop is again pretty irrelevant and it’s fun to push buttons. Especially if you can slip sword 2 in there like on the wurm to avoid an AoE. Using sword skills to evade boss attacks looks cool, especially subject alpha.
made up story and also you can’t tell what division — if any — people are in in unranked
Um, you’re not fooling anyone with this ridiculous post. Go whine about how OP druids are on reddit or something, not the ranger forum.
the 60+ page thread about legendaries not being worked on begs to differ. literally everyone i know begs to differ. people care enormously about legendaries
Nope, you misunderstood. I’m talking about skins, not the item nomenclature. Anet could easily release 100 new legendaries (precursors) as rare drops, but they make them all gem store items instead.
