they are not UP per say, but definitely underwhelming……big difference here. Not everyone likes D/D, period. Mage stereotype is staff, when I think of a mage Gandalf comes to mind, I want to play as a staff mage that works with fire and lighting and water and stone, not a fighter. Right now you are FORCED to play dagger, there is no going around this.

I agree that D/D is by far our most popular and probably our most powerful weapon set, and that others should probably get a buff/change. But attunement swapping is awesome and fun. Ele’s have a huge amount of utility. You can’t buff each attunement to be as powerful as another classes weapon set, because then in the hands of a pro player, they would be so much better than any other class.

If you don’t like attunement swapping, ele’s gonna suck for you. That sucks if it doesn’t suit your playstyle, I’m actually sorry, hate it when that happens.

who said anything about hating attunement switching? As a matter of fact i love the class because of it, but most traits are put into “if you are in xxxxx attunement you do 10% more damage” which forces you (or makes you believe) that you have to specialize into one.

As i said, dont give me the “play another profession” bullcrap, i like elementalists and want to see them strong, I refuse to give up on the whole class just because a few elitists who like their current UP state.

Unfortunately this game isnt composed by pro players, i bet you that more than 90% are just like me, casual players so no, dont give me the pro crap. I want elementalists to be up par with others, period.

They feel…..lackluster, underwhelming at times. I feel constantly overpowered by everyone else when trying to have a fight outside a D/D, the best i can do is run away…….and personally I dont like this….at all, maybe fun if you have an angry red-lined mob every now and then, but for the most part I wanna fight, I wanna be relevant and still feel like I actually do something other than heal/stun/run

It pains me that to stay relevant on sPvP we have to play D/D, can we get some functional builds out there that does not force us to play a weapon that I would have never thought would go to with mage stereotype, I wanna be able to kill people with staff, not just also be pidgeonhole into “support” role and “run-away” role.

I want to be able to kill stuff with elementalists, and NO, i dont wanna play other classes, I LOVE elemntalists and I REFUSE to play anything else. anymore.

I want to be able to kill stuff with range like ranger can, dont give me the “you have to swap attunements” , I already do, and a ranger can crossfire you all day long no problem, same with theives without having to ever be changing 999999999 times from weapons and using all CDs to be able to SURVIVE and hopefully deal enough damage to just watch the enemy run away.

Tl;DR I dont like D/D, staff elementalists are underwhelming, give us viable builds outside D/D, fulfill the mage archtype and let us be effective with staff.

to the three people above me:
@1: yes, they were nerfed, damage wise they are fine, but they still didnt hit the core element that made them overpowered.
@2: I have played PLENTY of mesmers, i know how they work, and even I have issues, what does that leave for those players who have nplayed them little to almsot nothing? The amount of frustartion they generate is TOO MUCH compared to what they should
@3: because there is more than one player on the enemy team, and also not everybody knows of it existance…..

Gaming background:
Not much, but mostly MMOs: Rohan, WoW, Aion, DoW, i like online multiplayers as u can see, for me the games are funner the more people there are, I hate grinding and Im a casual gamer but if i find a group of enthusiastic players i can get very realinto raids, ranked gaming and others, but only if it invloves skype or continues chat, if it is with random people it wont happen, Im a friend gamer.

My take on this game:

I was VERY hyped, bought the game as soon as available, started playing asap, but im currently disapointed at the state of professions on sPVP, specially on how weak elementalists are if you are not D/D which you are pretty much forced to be to be on “par” with other classes which do the same and more better. Also very frustrated about mesmers to the point they have made me completely avoid PvP and therefore the game, until i see mesmers tone down (not in power, but in the kitten frustration vs fun ration and their copies crap) I wont be playing this game very often, if at all.

I have played as them plenty of times and against them even more and I have come to the conclusion that while they are not “Overpowered” per say, the amount of “frustration to fun” is unbalanced.

Explanation:

The frustration vs fun ratio is simply a ratio of fun a profession produces while playing against it and as it vs the frustration it causes on the enemy. The reward being winning and causing confusion on the enemy, which right now it is not correct. Several of my friends agree with me and some have even given up on sPvP mostly because the extreme frustration fighting against a mesmer can produce.

When I played as a mesmer I had fun confusing my enemies, but to be honest it wasnt nothing out of this world, i didnt feel very rewarded by using copies because even if they died I could respawn them again no problem, they do damage, burst casters waste cooldowns on the wrong one and they are done for, and the others lose a lot of potential damage and health by trying to decipher which one is real, which, I admit is hard.

My fun came mostly from hearing my friends “rage” in agony on skype and how hard it was to decipher who was who, but other than that I didnt feel any other “reward” , no “fun” other than feeding upon the frustration of my friends, which i couldnt really enjoy on other people because players that are not on the skype call wouldnt be able to express anything, so i just expected them to be stresed too.

It wasnt until I started playing other classes that I realized just how frustrating it is to go against one, to the point of begging not to get matched agaisnt one, and if i could avoid the fight, I Would at all cost, thats how bad it got to some point.

I realized that Mesmer players have forced upon themselves that the “fun” of the class is causing grief and frustration, while I agree that many people like causing grieve (therefore trolls exists) I will say that this is unhealthy to the game, to the point that two of my friends refuse to play sPvP due to the existance of mesmers and how hard they are to kill, say which one is real and catch.

My suggestion;

Make killing the copies more rewarding by increasing the time it takes for them to respawn, decrease their health, make it easier to know which one is the real (It kinda sucks that i have to CTRL + T people to know which one is real, and if there is more than one…… well, we are screwed)

I know you can tell which one is real by seeing it dodge, but they will only do so after you have wasted 3 CDs on other ones, and that is just NO fun for the enemy while the mesmer all he get is the “satisfaction” of just standing there auto-attacking and watching the enemy waste CDs.

As in stated in other game, they are currently “anti-fun” and the amount of “fun” they bring does not outweight the amount of frustration and grief they produce.

Heavy rework? Ele might be the red-headed step child of the cast when it comes to getting “buffs,” but honestly I don’t feel we need them. Bug fixes yes, but what class doesn’t?

It’s true other professions take less effort to get a kill, but what you’re not seeing is how nobody really matches up to Ele in terms of utility. The exception might be Engies, but they aren’t exactly “Hurr I press buttan!!1” class either.

I went back and played some of my previous professions and noticed: “Hmm..If only I could swap to this, and do this.” Everything felt so limiting now after having accesss to so many skills and tools for just about any situation. And on top of that, Ele has been the first profession I’ve played to where I can consistently win when I’m outnumbered.

Any chance you can post your last build? Maybe we can help, after all, without a solid build your skills may not count for much.

out of the many i’ve used Im currently using D/D 30 arcane, 30 water 10 air , soldier’s amulet, have around 6 keybinding just for dodge, utilities and most used water swapping attunement.

I land most of my spells and can dodge most of the heavy hitting spells because i pretty much know half the classes by memory now.

Still takes me 100x more times the effort to get someone to 20% hp

I will admit that the utility of the elementalist is unpaired and I think for people who specc on it they should be able to survive better at expense of no being able to kill well, but even when you go fully offensive; you either get someone from 100 to 0 in one combo where they are just standing and are squishy or die trying, which the latest happens the most.

I want to be able to deal damage like I do with other classes, I want to be able to give up AoE and utility in exchange of some reliable single or 2-3 target damage

Also, i dont want to be FORCE to play D/D, i like staff, i LOVE staff, i dont like melee weapons like D/D wich force me to go unnecessarily balls deep into a full team when i have the lowest hit points on the game and the weaker of all armors.

read it, tried it before i saw it on the forums, tried after reading it, tried multiple paths of it, final result; the same.

Notice how people dont want to be forced into D/D, and even then the damage can be good, yes, but at expense of survavility (TOO MUCH) , or bunker elementalist but people can just heal it through, you are not gonna be killing stuff anytime soon.

Impressive, no?

Thats it, im giving up on this, i’ve played every single class, i have tried elementalists multiple times, staff, dagger, scepter, all, i have done many keybindings and played countless hours, elementalists are UP, period. The damage they can POTENTIALLY do is good, yes, but the amount of effort it takes for it is not worth it, when i can do the same with 3-4 keys on any other class.

Also it seems very unfair classes like thief and mesmers get such an easy time, i have been playing elementalists ever since release and I would be very happy when I would get a kill somehow, i thought it was supposed to be hard because they do so much damage, then i played ranger, theif, mesmer and realized that I could that, more and MUCH more without having to use not even 1/6 the effort.

“Just play another class” NO, i like elementalists, i like their gamestyle, I dont like the others, i play for fun, and being able to do stuff is fun, elementalist feel underwhelming, period. I like pressing buttons but i want to have a more reliable reward, anyone with half brain can dodge a 1 1/2 second cast spell ground targeted with a hitting radius of almost a few paces, most skills have to be oriented at enemies, they are not locked unlike almost every other class, you mess up ONE skill and you can pretty much kiss goodbye to life.

Yes, this is a rant, but after being playing for this long, tried MULTIPLE builds, played with friends, asked them to test things out on empty servers and overall was very humble in asking for advices I have come to the conclusions elementaists need some heavy rework, specially water, and yes Im looking at you; staff and D/D

Today has been a really hard day for me. Im dying constantly in spvp with my trusty build.. Im getting tired of burst mechanics in this game. And lack of reliable burst with ele. Got 6,5k steal from a thief with 2k toughness, unkillable mesmers who just phase out when things go awry and many more frustrating things.. I have almost 1k games played with my ele and rank 6 mesmers and thieves cause me gray hair……… how ridiculous is that
Honestly whats the point in playing anything else than a thief or a mesmer?

Yea yea when played good ele really shines etc. The problem is when played good esp. mesmer REALLY shines.

Yes they seem to be counters to almost everything.

i could deal with thieves, but i cringe when i see mesmers…. I wouldnt go as far as saying they are OP and definitely NOT fun to play agaisnt as anything….but they kinda are…..

Some easily implemented fixes that I suggest:

1. Lower attunement swapping time across the board.

2. Bring back the EA blast finish. Bug or not.

3. If half our traits are dealing with conjures, make the friggin’ conjures viable. Make it so they only replace the skills of the element they are attuned to and
allow us to swap attunements with a conjured weapon.

4. Class needs a base damage buff in general. Doesnt have to be big since we do have a lot off CC, but our base damage skills do almost no damage compared to other classes, especially specced heavy damage.

5. We have too many long cast times, directional facing requirements and aimed skills. Tone them down a bit. (this could also be used to fix thief what if some of their huge burst skills had to be aimed like fire grab instead of just spammed?)

More damage? Realy? Ele has by far the highest burst potential and wrecks everything that balls up. You gotta be kidding right?

oh im sorry, you have probably missed the might stacking thief and warrior, it is a shame you havent played more than 2 games to see one of them on each game

Yeah, probably i should play more games on my ele because obviously 1500+ games with Ele arent enough or 600+ twins or beeing 1 of the highest ranked EU Eles.

0 points in water and
only 15 in arcane
0 in earth ….

No might stacking…
No Quickness…
No Elite…
No Roots…
No CC …

SPvP, (PvE is fine):

Back when the game was still in development I always looked up to the Guardian, I started playing him but didnt like him, he wasnt what I expected, i was expecting sort of a resto druid/holy paladin which was very versatile but I didnt get that, i messed up around with different classes until i found the elementalist, when I found it i absolutely fell in love with the profession and havent played anything else ever since……. until a while ago.

I noticed that elementalists can go full glass cannon, and for the most part they have the potential to do lots of damage, real hurtful damage, except for one little detail, long CD, small area of effect, non-targeatable and SOOOOOOOOO easy to avoid. Im talking about staff and scepter. I tried rooting them, but by the time casting was over and the skills tarted building up they had already walkout and then proceeded to 3 hit me.

I thought this was normal and to be expected, such extreme power should have a draw back, until i picked up a ranger and a thief……boy was I wrong to think that way?! They had the same (if not more) reliable damage while being able to keep relatively (very) safe. It is then where it dawned to me, elementalists have a newbie trap: high risk, very difficult- medion-not worthy reward.

Of course i have tried going really tanky, i’ve tried SEVERAL builds, involving all weapons, lots of practice, got my friends to play with me on empty servers to try out builds and combos….no matter what, 9 out of 10 times i would die miserably regardles of keybinding, landing all stuf and kitting.

Dont get me wrong, tankalist with staff is nearly impossible to kill/chase, but i want to be able to pick up a RELIABLE build where I can kill someone before i die.

If you think im wrong please enlight me, but give constructive comments, dont give me the: “you suck, they are awesome”. I have specced on fire/lighting, also tried, fire/earth, lighting/arcane, currentlydoing water/earth because the tankiness it provides, still do crappy damage but it is to be expected, im a heal/running bot.
