I prefer this system.
I solemnly hate this kind of statements. This is called stockholm syndrome. You became a victim of your captors, and at some point you started to love them.
So what? Wow is another game, a very different game. Keep it out of the picture.
With statements like that you can make almost anything sound pretty;

It basically boils down to: Know your class limits and know the enemy’s class limits. Reacting accordingly to counter the opponents. This method is the basics to ANY PvP scene. The reason for the out cry on Nero’s because they are no longer a free kill.(Sorry warriors, you still are)

oh hi, meet the rock-paper scissor mentality that has ruined so many games by doing unjustly unbalanced classes where the out come of the fight was already determined before it even began! Where skills dont matter, where having scissor wins you the game unless the enemy brings a rock, and then the other one responds with paper!
Your post is bad and you should feel bad. Not only are you defending conditions in a very biased fashion, but you are renforcing the problem and your statement became completely null the moment you mentioned the words “crying” and “flowing of tears” due to you having the mentality of a 14 years old kid.
Conditions atm lack counterplay, period. Conditions and cleanses should have better counterplay, I shouldnt need to carry 3 utilities with cleansing skills, a heal with cleansing and traits just for cleansing. Toughness (a stat you have to sacrifice other stats to have) has absolutely no say, limiting even more the counterplays, leaving you at; either you are a high-medium HP target (warriors, necro, ranger, mesmer) or you freaking get vitality as well as toughness! (eles, guardians, thief)
Once again, rock-paper-scissor is not a game of this-beats-that, its a game of reflexes, of reading the opponents decisions, of anticipating, of luck, of chance, of psychology. The game is fun because of that. But what fun is it if I have a health problem in which my hand can only be closed, and before we count to three I put my fist on rock only to have you come with paper after you can see it for a whole 3 seconds?

Running to a dragon event on my mesmer and some useless trash just jacks pot hit me, Mesmer mobility sooo slow. Speed reduce in combat is a common Korean technique to time sink and prevent you to run contest. Rift use to have this mechanikittenill people start leaving, then they remove I think.
my biggest gripe with mesmers atm is this; going around the map trying to do stuff just to have the crappiest of crappiest things attack me once and then everyone else follow me. Kill them only to get a couple of porous bones, at best!

Why do people keep saying Fear got buffed?
Because;
People have been running the same Fear build for months! The only Fear related changes were nerfing Corrupt Boon so it no longer guarantees a stability conversion into Fear, bumping Terror up a trait line, adding Fear to spectral wall which only makes the spell finally viable since launch, and giving a slight duration buff to Doom but only in close range.

Even with that it’s REALLY hard to avoid conditions from necros and cleansing them all, and even if you do, they get reapplied in a few seconds, while every cleanse is on CD, counterplay is close to none; righ risks/low rewards, fail once and bam dead, they fail once, no worries, wait till CDs are up again.

your goal it’s to avoid conditions and cleanse them all, and its natural, since you want to win the fight. But this is not the way. You have to cleanse some conditions and do your own thing before conditions kill you.something else, if you are Ok with not remove all conditions, why are you complaining?
because the interaction is too once sided, towards the condition side. Its ok to do damage with conditions, but having your only way of damage only on conditions which only counterplay is either cleansing/killing the enemy since they tend to give up raw damage and defense for it, but currently necros have 2 hp bars and one of the highest hp out there, together with CC. You cant burst, you cant cleanse, you cant outlast, you cant heal, only option left is to run away, and even that can be hard given the amount of CC and new torment they have. Im sorry, but you are not reading my post carefully.
Im asking for counterplay, right now the counterplay is very limited (if any), i dont ask to cleanse all conditions, but at least make them think about it, instead of just ApE spam them, and just walk way until CDs are up again in a couple of seconds while my 40-60 underwhelming cleanses are on CD.
Characters with condition damge done right is mesmer staff; icaster does more damage the more conditions you have, but at no point is ALL damage based on hit or not, and they relay on other stuff other than AoE spam enemies hoping for the best, rinse and repeat in a few seconds

and you shouldn’t be able to cleanse all conditions. It’s the way necros do damage. Why you should be able to negate all damage from a class? So you can kill them easy like you used to do before the patch?

I dont mind cleansing 2-4 conditions at once with a 40 seconds skill, there are still like 2-3 left on me so its not like they suddenly become useless.

You aren’t slowed down in combat, you’re sped up out of combat. In combat movespeed is the normal movespeed.
then I propose we redefine it and give passive swiftness to everyone not actively attacking an enemy(in PvE). That way we all win, and PvP and WvW doesnt get affected
If you were not slowed down at all by being engaged by a monster then they would have no chance to catch or damage you at all. So it is either that or speed up the monsters.
This also increases the challenge for jumping puzzles that involve monsters, when are engaged you are slower and as a result you jump distance is decreased.
Increase rewards (seriously, no drops or junks from more than half the monster with even perma 112% MF?!) and remove DR and then I will engage them, right now mobs on the outside are just there to prevent you from walking around the beautiful maps by clogging view and attacking you, or for events.

11k is on the low end of HP pool for ele.. like glass low.
I’m not sayng Necro’s don’t need toned down, or that ele’s normally have high hp, but maybe you should put some traits into defense instead of running glass.
And yes, it doesn’t help that they have a healthy population now. It was the same with thieves (still is really) when they had their backstab build, and that lasted for months.
I said 11k-13k, anything non-soldier gives you those stats on eles, even valkiry, which leaves you at 10k without any water.
Please dont backlash with l2p statements, I kno how to play and im well aware of including defensive stuff in my build, thats why i pack condition cleanse (at least 2, either on heal ethereal and cleansing flames or get some points on water for cleansing)

Whats the purpose of this other than to annoy people and make them have another unnecessary time sink? I will go further more; why do we even have classes with perma switchness (ele with 5 points air 10% mov increase + 25% signet of air, or necros, or rangers) and classes that become a DRAG to level up and get map completition, AKA Mesmer.
I understand in PvP and WvW, but PvE? Even guardians putting speed buff with staff 3 get punished when the chasing monster steps on the speed buff and gets damaged, and there you go; old man’s steps.
Some maps become unbearable (Orr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) specially if you are attempting to do with with a mesmer….
I just want to know what was the thought pattern behind this, was this purposely put as a time sink or overlooked since in WVW and PvP it actually does matter?

Anyways, I never really played GW1, but i did like how you had more skill options everytime i watched a video or something. Im currently playing ele since it has the most access to skills in the game, but it prevents me from playing anything else, as much as i would like. Many classes get boring since 1 weapon is the damage dealer the other one is usually just a buffer or something for a very niche job. AKA insert weapon of choice here/focus mesmer for PvE and WvW, or weapon/staff guardian, or weapon/horn ranger…

I will be blunt; sPvP balance is on the poor side (to not say certain word with a distorted meaning that went from creating a vacuum in which a liquid or gas goes to fill to….ahh I will just say it; it sucks).
I believe this game has the potential to get very far in PvP, but given how there are only 2 devs in balance and how most classes as a stand alone suck unless traited into a very specific set of things, this game will never reach anything resembling balance. They are doing an amazing job and doing some good (and lots of bad chnages) but I dont blame them because its really hard to keep up with this many classes and different build combinations when you are ONLY two people.
Personally I have decided to completely give up on PvP in this game, this game is dominated by D/D thieves, shatter mesmers and now condi engi/necros.
You know you have reached a healthy balance when ALL classes have a chance in a 1v1 while still being able to be good in teamfights, and when all classes have at least 2-3 viable builds instead of the 1 optimal (only one viable), 1 sub-optimal and 4 drag-your-team-down builds.
I go to sPvP only for the laurels, rest is testing new builds sicne doing it on the actualy PvE is too expensive and takes time

EDIT: Not only necros, necros are a victim at best, it is conditions/cleanses interactions in the game atm for squishies and/or people non-heavy-cond-removal-traited
Im not saying that necros dont “deserve” this buffs they got lately, but I think you went a little bit over board with it, right now there is at least 2-3 necros in everygame and the amount of conditions they can put up which are nearly uncleansable is too much.
Before you decided that reading that much was enough to give an answer, let me tell you that i play classes that are on the squishier side, meaning that conditions (unlike raw damage) cant be mitigated and given my 11k-13k hp pool they can quickly burn me out if I dont cleanse it. I dont mind cleansing 2-4 conditions at once with a 40 seconds skill, there are still like 2-3 left on me so its not like they suddenly become useless. But you know something is wrong when ALL those conditions get reapplied in less than 10 seconds later and burn me through in a sec while they get to have two lifebars (also necros have one of the higher HP in the game, so dont tell me they are squishy).
It cuts too much into peoples build, instead of having some counterplay all you have to do with necros is clean and attempt to run before you get feared and tormeneted again.
Right now I believe they need to be toned down a bit or rethink the whole condition/clean gameplay interaction so that classes like eles and guardians dont have to FULLY specc into defensive traits just to be able to clean all those conditions …. fora few seconds before they kill you anyways. That or rethink the way conditions do true inmitigable damage that can burn a 11k hp ele which isnt water/arcana or a 13k hp guardian who is more on the team utility side or DPS (and given the current state of the game; melee is unviable for most classes that arent water/arcana D/D or thief D/D).

Overall, including PvE and dungeons (mainly), PvP and WvW (as a damage dealer, not as a boring boon sharer) whats your take on Guardians as compared to say; elementalists and mesmers. Im a elementalist main and Im mostly into active support and damage, i dont like just giving boons and staying on the back doing near nothing.
Is it worth it to roll a guardian or should I amke a mesmer instead, or just keep playing my staff ele?
I have posted here because Im hoping to get some insight on this class from people that should be better on them.
tl;dr: Guardians as damage dealers and active supporters on all aspects of the game.

@OP; Give us a little more background as to what was happening. But yeah Anet needs to do something about the current kick system, a premade of just two people can bypass the general vote and kick anyone on command, that is just wrong. Personally I have never been kicked of a party since i pretty much play premades, but it would suck to be at the last fight with Jade and BAM, kick just for gigs and laughs

my problem with PvP is that ther eis no gear progression and you cant show up your gear as a way of “skills” or “time spent”. Nobody even cares about gear there, there is nothing to brag about, and nothing that can tell you you are “progressing”. On top of that you have to decide if your wings are PvE or PvP. PvE where most of the action happens, or PvP where people go to test the different builds since doing it on the actual PvE is near impossible due to money and time gated issues, also fastest way for the daily.

I have played exclusively staff ele on this game, from lvl 2 to now, and I can tell you, even without the buffs we had, staff is actually quite good for PvE.
When you are low lvl you cant really pick your gear as eas as you would do with high lvl stuff, so i was focusing on power and precision, with some vit if needed.
For staff all you need in PvE is to kill, and do it fast. You have plenty of defensive skills, so dont worry about that part, once you get the hang of the skills you will find that all you need is killing potencial. Im currently a full zerker gear with MF runes. With 30% MF food i sit at around 112% MF and 7x% crit increase, my crit chance is 6x% with fury (easily obtainable through element switching) and no monster in PvE can last more than 5-6 seconds vs me, and I can take 3-4 at a time. You have to watchout for ranged ones thugh, thats our bane, thats why we have magnetic shield on earth, use it wisely.
As for dungeons, they are mostly designed so that you dont need to much defense, so given our range just go damage, learn to dodge and when to pop arcane blast in close combat for combo fields like healing and might

Easy:
-buying in extreme bulk doesn’t happen nearly as often as it warrants the time invested programming it
-buying in extreme bulk is very risky for the buyer, especially when there are wide differences in price listings
-buying in extreme bulk could produce some disastrous mistakes (imagine a player inadvertently adding one 0 and buying 900 more items than he intended)Buying 1462 cupcakes is painful? That’s 6 clicks of the mouse. That doesn’t even trigger the BLTC anti-spam error.

the thing is; as a person that loves challenges that are well rewarded, this seems to finally strike that balance. I personally like dungeons that amke you interact with your surroundings rather than just good’ol wack-a-mole and tank-and-spank bosses while dodging maybe one or two ground-based spells every 10 seconds.
Most people are throwing themselves to the dungeon and learning it on the go, others are reading the spoilers (sadly I had to, otherwise my party would have probably left sooner)but regardless of that, it is fun, challenge is fun. I didnt like the guild missions because the content is gated by how large and active is your guild. (b=though im LOVING the races, those are fun!)

Im in a very friendly guild, we do guild missions on weekends and usually the chat have around 5-8 active members at peak days. It has around 100 members of which maybe 30 log at most. My problem comes from people (in chat and forums) which are constantly talking about these guilds that have loyal people, who have nicely knit communities, who help each others with even money and effort and time when they need something, that have active voice channels and do events together. Does this actually exist? Or is this only a small thing for some guilds? To be perfectly honest, the reason why i picked this game besides the normal farming escape (which unfortunately im still doing even in this game) was because i thought i could find a guild in a game called Guild wars, but im kinda disappointed and sad, i dont want to quit my guild since i like to be loyal, but am i doing something wrong and there is an actual american pie version for guilds, or am i believing an american pie lie?
EDIT: a lot of people seem to be picking on the american pie reference, my apologies, let me explain myself; in that movie a “reality” of college is shown, when in reality its nothing like that, so people expect that when they go to college only to live in constant disappointment thinking that they are not living the “real” college experience. Its a vague reference but its what im starting to feel myself.

No it doesnt, you can cast it while stunned, but it doesnt actually break the stun itself
He said anti-burst, which is exactly what it will do when you can still move away even if stunned.
I don’t even know why you’re crying about Shadow Trap, they just nerfed Shadow Return and gave them a rarely used variant that is inferior to portals… and you’re crying about it?
Please stop using the word “crying”, it makes your argument sound pretty much invalid and childish, making you look bad. All im saying is that thieves got many undeserved buffs which i will later on cover, that “portal” is only one of the problems, the real one is stealth and spike damage which lack little to almost no counterplay, it isnt fair to lose 70-80% in a sec without seeing coming with only a small window for retaliation, before they do it again.

Arcane Shield already has a stun break, but that didn’t show in the patch notes.
Lightning Flash can still work as an anti-burst skill, and the lower cooldown and higher damage makes it much stronger for offensive elementalist builds.
No it doesnt, arcane shield that is, you can cast it while stunned, but it doesnt actually break the stun itself
Edit: it seems it did gain a stunbreaker but didnt make it to patch notes, my apologies, lets hope it is intentional, if thats the case then i got no complains for ele, other than fixing and giving skill controls of wlementals to eles sort of like guardians summon weapons

I cant take PvP seriously in this game, after have lost faith in the balance team [once again] after this patch, I will post a more detailed feedback later on when I get back from work, because im not one to give up on a marriage just because of a couple of fights, but Im starting to hit my saturation level. I will still log in to sPvP when I need my [forced] daily laurel grind but other than that I dont expect sPvP to be taken seriously any time soon, sorry to come out this blunt but there is no other way around.
I dont like to unnecesarily bash, so as soon as I finish my Elem stunbreak feedback and my thief solo queue counterplay threads I will link them here, in the hopes that maybe, just maybe, the [2 guys for 8 classes and countless other sub-builds] balance guys can see what Im talking about and hopefully hot-fix some of the stuff around.
For now a little teaser, it will be explained later on in more detail after I do some more playtesting;
Eles; lighting flash stunbreaker going up in damage and losing stunbreaker, and Glyph of elementals gaining it. Nobody uses flash for damage, nobody, stoping trying to make elemental glyph happen, it can be immortal (33% hp increase was the only and latest buff) and it would still be useless. WHy? Unrliable, cant control their skills and most of the time (water specially) hit nobody or when they do proc it is at the most unnecesary moment (fire and air). Stop trying to make it happen, it is only useful in PvE, not PvP. A good solution could be; mist loses its stunbreaker, give it Arcane shield.
Thieves All I saw was “damage increase”, “invulnerability increase duration” and now they can teleport around without any worries because there is little to no locking down now, oh and their F1 gap closer (one of the 999999 ones they have) got a CD decrease. Maybe in professional 5v5 tPvP they might have some counterplay, but for the solo queue and “beginners” PvP and WvW they are an absolute nightmare.
Once again, I will go more in depth into this with possible solutions and more indepth with gameplay included.

Devs, here, have some hints;
Lighting flash =/= damage, it isnt used and has never been used for damage (except for D?D that even then they wouldnt flash ON TOP of the enemy, rather reposition in a plae close enough to affect with earth 5 and not get hit or out of harms way, behidn the enmy player, NEVER ON TOP)
I use the signet of air but I dont like to burn it, unless i REALLY need to, but now ti is a stun break and Im pretty much forced to take it, SINCE NOW CLEANSING FIRE DOESNT HAVE STUN BREAKER EITHER and GoEP is still useless even with infinite health

Im thinking on rolling a ranger, I have always liked nature-themed classes in games and sylvari ranger with Kudzu is really calling my attention as a potential thing, but I want to know overall whats the state of rangers in PvE (dungeons, farming, soloing) and PvP (WvW and sPvP)

Guardians/mesmer, (warriors close second to mesmer) no questions asked.
Maybe it is just my server but LA; guardians everywhere. FOTM; guardians everywhere. Orr; no players around. My guild (2xx people) 70% of the people guardians.
Heck, even me which Im a ele main im starting to roll a guradian, since I have noticed how good they actually are and what I have been missing out, sad but those 3 (guard/mesm/war) have become the holy trinity in this game and by now people have caught on.

Roll a guardian/mesmer/warrior, those 2 are currently the OP in PvE and good at everything. They pretty much outclass anybody else in dungeons and pretty much open PvE.
As for WvW and PvP thieves/mesmer/guardian/bunker ranger take the prize home, limiting the amount of classes you can play in a competitive enviroment since 80% of all team will be composed of mostly mesmers and bunker rangers.

Those “moving textures” on twilight/sunrise/eternity are called environment balls. All it is, is a single polygon told to create a sphere and act as a clipping mask to view said sphere only through the placed 3D texture.

Thief. After 1000+ hours as my only character it’s so hard to go back to clunky cooldowns and lack of mobility. I’m giving it a shot with warrior and will probably roll a mesmer, so we’ll see how that goes.
as far as mobility goes; ele might fit you, specially D/D ele which is really strong, fliud and VERY mobile!

I have tried, really have, but no matter how much I play anything else, I always come back to the sylvari staff ele at the end of the day, regardless of how underpowered it might feel. Something about the gameplay, something about the mechanics, just something….
No matter how hard I tried to make it happen, neither mesmer nor guardian “click” with me no matter how hard I try.
My best guess is; my favorite weapon is staff, and right now only mesmers and guardians (necro-something too i believe) are quite limited on the offensive with this. Ever since a child I imagine myself fighting side by side with Gandalf, with fireballs and dragons and what-not. (The movie was good too, but nothing beats my imagination with a book). Eles feel so fluid, so unique, refreshing, jack of all trades (but truly master of none, sadly). No matter what I play I get bored of it quickly, specially since most of the time you are constrained to one weapon, occasionally switching to the other for speed boost. I had planned for guardian to be my main, but it feels so clunky and I fail to do damage/stick to people/range.
What is your class? the class that at the end of the day you just can’t do without? Why?

(it has the screech, it flies, it has the colors, and if you have the shattered wings from the dragon bash then it does a thing that flies around you)

Im not talking about in-fight movement, im talking about moving around and th constant need to have focus + runes to be able to keep up with people.
Can we get a 25% passive somewhere, even if we lose it on combat (only when enemy players damage, mobs would not count towards this, cuz otherwise no poiint of using it, specially on Orr)

There are/were plans (announced back in January) to add additional rewards to achievements and rewards based on total points. Since recent achievements rewards items, maybe that’s as far as they’re going to take it now.
We’re still working on a system that rewards bonuses and rewards for achieving various thresholds of achievement points on your account. More news on this soon!
well, given that most of the time, when Colin give us a soon followed by a " ! " they are sooner than you would expect, im ok with this. Lets hope it is before the end of the year anniversary.

Do we save them for GW3 rewards or do you have plans to make it yet another currency we have to manage?

too late, the ship left already, I highly doubt they will look at the skills and do a complete overhaul until a year (or more) from now. But yeah, I agree, it cuts into the build too much, if you want to staff, you HAVE to go arcana 20 for blasting staff VIII
