OP suffers from Dunning–Kruger effect.

As a guardian, I did it with scepter and highly recommend only scepter. stop trying to melee her.

Oh look, you are using sophisticated words to make your argument look more convincing. Granted, they arent sophisticated and any psychology major should know about this, but for the rest of the population this is just fancy babble.

As for the issue at hand; congratulations. What about you do it 3 more times in a row with me in front of you? Because I can guarantee you that you, like many others who beat Irongut or liadri with “less conventional methods” will say that was “skills” and not luck.

I have seen plenty of people doing it, only guardian I saw succeeding was one using GS/Staff, and even he admitted that he got lucky.

Admit it, certain classes cant do it very well, I have been running around the dome and most people “bragging” around with their mini are mesmers (a solid 8/10 times).

Im not meleeing the thing, but I have little options as to what to do when as an Ele I cant switch weapons to kill the orb and cant heal myself without COMPLETELY crippling my damage.

I can do one or the other; do damage or heal.

If I do damage, I die to constant autoattacks and the leaps, if I heal I run out of time. If I do a middle ground i still run out of time since it. is. not. enough.

that’s why you have weapon swap, use it!

What do, Im an ele, I cant “swap” weapons. No, seriously, Im an ele, I have to either pick or choose, cant have both; either I get pulled to death or I melee the darn things.

See how the entire thing is flawed, giving only certain classes/specs the upper hand, in this case eles are almost completely alienated. You have to get lucky that it doesnt pull you to a invisible red circle of doom, thats where the luck comes from, among others like; having the white field appear on a convenient place, that 2 shadows step o it at the same time, the random blinds (screws burst people or people who can only land a few attacks every now and then)

Sure the AoE is always the same, but everything else isnt, which is why this actually DOES need luck…

There’s a lot of funny lines…leave your sound up and wander around the Black Citadel and Meatoberfest events…I keep hearing humans refered to as “Mice” (a.k.a. Cat Food)

Definitely Meatoberfest, it isnt in the balck Citadel though, it is the lvl 15-25 land I believe at the entrance of the map. The drunken guy walking around insulting everyone, I swear I followed that guy twice just to hear the lines. When remember the name I will post it here so that people can go and see it. Basically it is a quest that you have to fight a drunken guy who goes around insulting others, the entire fight is fun, the voice acting is amazing, 199/10 would recommend to hear. Im glad I passed by that zone again making my second 100% map.

I have reflected upon my thread and I agree with many of you, while I wouldnt say the difficulty is whats causing the frustration (Im rather pleased with it), what it IS causing problem is the camera angle and how most of the time i see nothing but the back of my head.

After sleeping over it, I have come to the realization that the main problem isnt the 1hit KO and mechanics, but rather this:

Camera Angle:

Most of the time I can only see the back of my head. This can get fixed by “taking away” the walls for the people inside.

Time Limit:

Even playing full zerker or PVT sometimes if you dont have pets that deal constant damage or stealth that lets you take a breathing room or constant dodges (thieves) then it becomes insanely hard, at least compared to them. Solution; increase time 2x fold. Sure it would make it even easier for them, but it would give a fair chance to all those who arent mesmers/thieves.

Needs its own instance

When you get people below you the sudden FPS drop is insane.

Cant see Circles!!!!!!!

Self explanatory, the floor makes it really hard.

Problem;

Only certain builds/classes can have a chance at this, usually high ranged DPS with its own AI (clones, pets) that have dodges/blinks. Doesnt mean people who dont have this cant do it, but certainly classes that do have these can do it almost effortesly compared to the rest of the other classes.

Im looking at mesmers and thieves which can pretty much cast clones on the boss and get things done while all they have to worry about is dodge the skills shots, or thieves who’s natural damage and plenty of dodges/teleports allow them to be out of harms most of the time.

This is a problem that goes to the core of GW2 combat, here you have time after time denied to balance out classes for 1v1 scenarios, balancing it on “teamfights” and 5v5s, hence which certain classes cant only do well in certain scenarios. Im looking at the lack of ranged DPS options for elementalists and guardians. No, scepter is bad for Liadri, both for guard and ele.

There is a fine line between skills, difficulty and getting lucky. I think we can all agree that certain elements of the game such as Irongut (norn drinking contest) are based almost purely in luck, and even defeating them gives you little to no joy compared to the amount of grief it created.

We need to give non-zerker classes means to be able to deal with Liadri. We certainly have the tools, but here is the issue, you have to burn through a pretty thick bunch of HP. This is false difficulty, this is lazy desing, this needs to be adressed, specially since you dont want to balance classes around 1v1 and “force” them to play an arena 1v1.

Solutions; Reduce hp of Liadri by A LOT, not 10% not 20%, im talking about giving those who even with zerker cant land most attacks (staff ele for example) or those who dont have zerker (due to having to get some defensive stats to be able to withstand the constant damage, eles have a poor 10k hp pool, incredibly stupid and unbalaced considering you cant block anything from Liadri)

OR

Increase the time by A LOT, not 5 seconds, nor 10, nor 20, Im talking about a whole 2 minutes, right now in between avoiding all and having to go around the map every now and then to avoid the kamikazes, you lose precious time. Once again, this is not difficulty, it pushes only certain classes and builds. Let us fight on our terms. No, I dont mean letting condition burn guardian be vaible, but I do want to be able to get some points into water as ele to heal a bit and still not run out of time due to lack of damage and the 999999999 hp bar of most mobs

Well the first one was Humans and the Karkha with a Sylvari bad guy, but like we’ve all agreed that’s not much for substance.
Then the next one was Norn and Charr based, then we went back to the Lions Arch area for a while. Now we’re dealing with Asura/Human pirate blending.
We have 4 of the races mixed together as villans and have as Heroes:
1 Charr
1 Norn
3 Female Humans

So I think after the Jubilee and maybe one other story chapter we’ll probably see Sylvari as some focus, either for good or ill. Hopefully both, but I’m dreaming too big right now.

hopefully we can also see the aether pirates theme over with, never really liked steampunked stuff and they have been for now 4 LS

After working so hard (hard followed by on is a curse?) on my main for 11 months, getting all the good looking skins, including weapons and gem items, but more importantly; soulbound items which were either temporal or hard to craft (like legendaries), playing on an alt feels so unrewarding, feels like I have done nothing for the past 11 months, knowing that no matter what I do, I will most likely never get the same “status” on my alt unless I spend another 11 months on it.

This is most evidently in PvP, where I start with the most basic of basic items, cant have all the cool weapon skins I have in PvE and to top it off armors are heavily time gated (not skills, but time), but there is more: it is random to get the ones you want.

Please, Im not asking for all items to be account bound, but certain “really hard to craft like legendaries, MF weapons, FoTM weapons, one-time event weapons” should be account bound. I spend a LOT of time and effort into making/farming/playing on-time stuff to have it on that toon which has now been nerfed to the ground or I just dont feel like playing 101% of the time.

Should we add them to the achievemnt skin’s tab? I think ther eis the potential to ahve that working as a good way t have skins for stuff!

Ignorance apart, if you have ever bother to read Sylvari’s lore you will realize we have got a lot going on despite being so new;

example of a reward; Caladbog, a beautiful GS sword that has blue and yellow butterflies, mesmers would kill for it.

As for the activities, Anet can get creative and make a minigame sylvari themed, liek they have done with many other minis. Right now most people dont bother with sylvari’s because they have not gotten enough attention. We have so much potential yet most people prefer to play guardian/mesmer humans because thats what they most see in pretty much al the important stories in the game.

Also we gotta do something about the Treaherme Hate, even I playing sylvari dont like how he stole my spotlight

All of my characters are Sylvari,lol. And I’m not sure how I did it, but on my ranger, Treahearne was a nobody in the storyline. He was always in the background. On my thief, however, he was the main character. I wanted to punch him so many times.

Then my apologies. And like you all my toons are Sylvari as well, and sadly enough, in all of them Trahearme is still the main character… at some point after the 3rd toon I quit the personal story for good

We have had Norn with Brahn, SAB Asura, now humans(LOTS of it), Charr (the archer, for what I can see there was a LS about that but Im guess I wasnt paying attention to that one), lot of the latest Living Story have taken event with all races but Sylvari.

No, having the drinking guy in the home instance of Sylvari does not count, and no, the “bad” sylvari at the end of the Southsun Cove does not count either.

Im talking about a fully theme based Sylvari Living Story where Sylvari’s are the focus for once. They are my favorite race by far and it saddens me that one of the most creative races in MMOs (not an elf, not an ent, but something truly unique and beautiful) and newer races to the GW world has had little to no attention in over a year.

Thoughts?

@OP: Yah I remember this, I was the one that created the thread on the Guardian forums about whether PVT or Zerker and you and sombody else started a your own mini sub-thread about how PVT was selfish and Zerker was the way to go, and back and forth, at the end I decided to go full zerker, I bought a place-holder exotic PVT set with the WvW rewards till I finis my zerker gear. Unfortunately the game is forgiving enough to go full damage and still survive, specially guardians which have a 11/10 surviving stuff.

As for the thread;

The Idea of someone being selfish for not being DPS, comes from a simple fact that every class can build for glass cannon, and survive any encounter as such if a good amount of effort is put into dodging, self healing and situational awareness. This makes anyone who is wearing a survivability gear (seemingly) fall into the category of; not very good at the game, or lazy and wanting to be carried.

People don’t want to play with either person in those categories. And so you get posts like you were referring to. And while I feel no one should put anyone down over their choice, I also feel you should respect their choice to not play with people that they perceive as bad at the game or lazy.

Unfortunately this is my view too, I wouldnt consider them “lazy” or “bad” since those are strong words, but while if it is a guild members I can put up with it for the sake of friendship, outside of that I dont like having runs slowed down just for the sake of not wanting to be the “dead guy”, some people have too much pride and would rather watch their whole team get decimated than go down and help and be the “downed guy”, hence they get defensive gear, traits, utility and weapons skill just for the sake to be the last man standing while contributing [most of the time] barely anything.

On the contrary, I find leveling alternate characters much more enjoyable in this game than something like World of Warcraft or Diablo 3.

this isnt about leveling, this is about the benefices you invest time/effort/money on which are constrained to only one character, when most of the time most people have 1 main, and 2 sub mains they change intermittently.

@OP I agree, I played my ele for 11 months, gave it ALL the skins, all the cool weapons, all the effort, now I want to play a mesmer and MY GOODNESS, DOING EVERYTHING FROM SCRATCH?! It hurts, I feel like a hobo with no skins, nothing good to look at. Also having to farm and wait for laurels/commendations/tokens to make the minimun of 1 full set with good stats and at least half of another is very time consuming (and resources).

What hurts the most is the cash shop items like the 800 gems harvesting items which are now bound to my ele which I dont feel like playing anymore, thank goodness I didnt put a Bifrost on, otherwise I would have been a very sad panda

I think it was like a 5% reduction… unfortunately the less informed player base took this as a “feature” and now we are stuck with Kiel and boring asura…

better than RNG boxes that people barely buy cuz; “exp bonus, guild comm , one dye” , not worth it at all.

Most people did not play GW, most of them are more interested in GW2 than GW1, and even people who played GW1 would rather prefer some GW2 related stuff

from lore point of view Evon is corrupted, ugly, corrupted, greedy, corrupted, ugly and a corrupted politician.

I hate Asuras as much as the next guy, but lets see what Anet bring us, maybe they will surprise us.

Also we still dont know how the WP will be, dont jump the gun, most of the gaming population benefices from this, since one of the bigger detterent from moving around as a high character is the freaking 4 silver everytime.

yet Im incredibly happy how everyone got involved, it made the game liver, we had “confrontations” in the guild, nothing serious, in fact quite on the ridiculous and fun way. LA chat was fun, some people were negative (like everywhere where human interaction is) but overall I foundit quite friendly and involving, feels like the game is real and alive.

As for the amount o votes; those who play more have more say in the elections, hence you get tickets for playing. I wish politics in RL worked like this, those who dont care about elections should be given a vote with dimished effects, those involved, informed and knowing how things are instead of mouthfed stuff should have more worthy votes.

I know where you got the idea of " who gathered themselves in such great numbers that they evolved into greater minds than the asura. " , and while I sure like the beginning, I dont like the end, I would prefer if it was the inquest the one that meddle with everything, and the Asura are trying to correct their mistakes to prevent retaliation from the Skritts who now have declared war on all Tyria, specifically Asuras.

But Im sure Anet will find a way to do it interesting nonetheless, even if it is the inquest, though honestly; I hate Asuras, I voted Kiel because principles but would have rather had Abaddon

Also, I want to remind you all that you never really had a choice in the dngeon, all you did was set up the background, because I can guarantee you that the core funtioning of the fractal was going to be the same nonetheless. Meaning that the bosses and entire fractal would have had the same mechanics, only thing that would change is the name of the boss. (see: Fake Choice)

Why do we have to content with being so slow? All cloth classes get a 25% mov sped signet, een a thief, which arguably has one of the highest mobility in the game, along with the most uncounterable mechanic in the game (spammably available) can get in or out of fights constantly at will.

Leveling one is a pain, having to be FORCED to use runes of the centaur and focus is a pain. I really hope they introduce a 25% signet for mesmer, it is unfair and makes leveling or moving around as a mesmer a DRAG

This is for mostly PvP, in PvE I cant get out enough damage but that doesnt really matter to me that much.

I have tried several builds, right now Im going for a more aggressive build, DPS, 0/30/30/5/5 on shouts, tried one on triple meditation as well, different traits of course, but right now I cant chase, cant scape, cant deal enough damage, cant tank anyone, I feel like a burden except for the occasional boon sharing and virtue, Im failing hardcore and cant find a way to make it work.

I know that they are supposed to be durable and to some extent I can survive, but the survive/DPS ratio is weird for me, I cant seem to get anything done. Im getting really frustrated with the class, i want to make it work somehow but I just cant.

Is there any DPS build that can secure kills?

Please dont ask me what I want to do, Im well aware that one is for tanking ad the other for DPSing, but what Im asking instead is; for 80-90% of the situations, this includes PvE open world, Dungeons, Fractals, WvW, Pugs and premades, whats best?

I don’t think that was the tone of the thread at all. I think most people were just indifferent. It is one of those items where you see a player with one and think, “Okay, hope they like it,” and not , “Holly cow that’s amazing and blows my mind!”

I don’t care how a player got it, aside from scamming, and if they are glad they have it then I’m happy for them. I do think that some legendary owners seemed disappointed that there were not many people in the thread talking about how awesome legendaries are.

Anyway, in that thread it was more of a “I don’t really care either way,” than “People legendarys are a bunch of idiots I can’t stand.”

which is why many of us are trying to change, we are trying to bring some of its awe and glory, legendaries are certainly good enough by themselves (some of the skins, not all of them) but they need some more to make it more appealing.

As for the scavenger hunt I sure would like to have certain “chain” of difficult events (difficult, not impossible) in which you can complete by yourself or with relatively minimal teamwork (party of 5 max), involved with some lore as to why you are “worthy enough” to such magnificent weapon.

It could involve more players into that aspect of the game, restore some of the “prestige” of owning one as well.

YES!!! I have incinerator on my necro, but would love it to use it on my thief. I have no idea why its not account bound.. really.

What would you give to have that instead of having the weapon, you know can make the skin, which goes into your achievement tab and can be put on any weapon of your choice as many times as you wish? (if put on a lvl 80 exotic this would bump the weapon stats to ascended when the items come out)

Also, i would love to take out the skin, but since they are making legendaries so you can change stats whenever you want to i dont see the reason for this, really

yah this happens a lot, we think one class will be our main forever, then after some while we realize that other classes now “click” better with us.

in my case ele, I have been playing it for 11 months, still love it but Im well aware that Anet has no intent on fixing staff so if I were to put bifrost on it I would probably waste it, but now, if I were able to take it out on command then I would mind it at all.

Why not have weapons granted actually based on reputation? I.e some rating system akin to forum +1 where the more people rated you the better tier of weapon you were awarded.

So after an event/fractal/dungeon you gave man of the match (see Swtor PVP) to a player. Thus giving points/tokens whatever to buy unique skins. Thus you absolutely knew players that had these skins were genuinely of high regard. Much like the Xbox ones profile system.

Obv there’d need to be some discussion in regards to abusing the system to prevent guilds just repping each other etc.

3 problems with that system;

>farming; getting a big guild to do a daily/weekly event of giving everyone a +1, same from friends, basically if you arent in one of those you are missing out, like guild missions

>People are selfish, they will most likely than not try to grief other people, aka no give them the vote even if they deserve it. Anonymity tends to do this, no social repercussions.

I do not like this system, it usually works for those communities that are mostly neutral/bad, like F2P games where you can get banned and do another account, where you have access to most of the game stuff so you are allowed to be as toxic as you want.

The community here is probably the best I have seen in any online game ever, like seriously, even my old hardcore WoW guild, and several other games. This community doesnt need more incentives to be good, it is amazing as it is. I would rather have another system that rewards teamwork rather than farming of votes.

Now that you could* actually get some reputation for crafting one, even if you werent going to do it before, would you do it?

Would you be encouraged to do multiple of them, non repeated since you know that once you cant stand a class anymore, you can simply move your weapon to another.

This isnt about any specific class, just stealth in general and those few classes that have it.

And…

You think we should pitty you? Please, grow some and realize your class is strong, too strong.

There it is.

Using the answer of one thing in the context of another to support a point that isnt there, sounds like politics.

While yes thieves are the major offenders, stealth remains a problem in which even thieves themselves are a victim, once the nerf start rolling out it will affect those non-stealth spammers, just like the nerfs to water/arcana for D/D bunkers ele GREATLY affected every other weapon, specifically staff which was already brokenly UP, and which still is up to today.

Weapon Stance Bug, Greatsword

I came across this bug not long ago, to make it short;

Normally when you walk with a greatsword you hold it over your shoulders. The bug is directed at male sylvari , female does not have this issue, neither do female norn or either male/female human (though it seems male norn does have it too)

Basically the animation for carrying a Sword is the same as that of carrying a Greatsword making the wearer not only look awkward but it seems the greatsword size diminishes a bit too.

Please update the animation, right now this is not game breaking but I believe the files have been mixed in,

If you were to expand on the effects of the sigil, the issue, the nomenclature of icd. Most people will not bother to ask since it would show “ignorance” or would not bother to do the research, even though they might know the answer without been aware of it. I suggest you make your threads a little bit more friendly to the average reader, the burden of knowledge might be too much for the vast mayority.

Drops and Exit Instance

Not a major issue, it isnt a bug (as far as Im concerned). Both are stacking on top of each other, making it quite hard to leave any instance if you ever get more than 4 drops of any sort, please, move the drops a little to the left or make it so thye all disappear if you click on them. Never really had this issue but it is worse after the patch

First lemme preface by saying I didn’t feel like reading a whole ’nother “nerf stealth” thread.

I main a thief (though I usually run d/p, rather than the super trolly d/d, and I usually don’t run glass cannon, but I’ve played with it plenty), and I gotta say, thieves have to work. Even the d/d backstab spammers. d/d glass cannons play balancing on a thread that can easily be broken, and the theives that take you down in the blink of an eye are the well practiced. Don’t believe me? Roll a glass canon backstab thief for yourself. If you’re right, and they’re grossly OP, then you shouldn’t really have to try and you’ll steamroll everyone.

Of course, if you do actually roll a theif and learn how they play, you’ll be amazed how much you learn about them, and how much easier it is to take them on. Seriously, give it a shot.

Now, on other other hand, I rolled up a necro a couple weeks ago, and built a MM bunker. That’s hardly playing. All you have to do is stand inside the circle and keep throwing circles of your own on the ground. Remember to switch to death shroud if your heal is still on cool down. Repeat. I haven’t played a guardian, but I wonder if bunkering them feels as passive as necros. Do I hate necros for being OP? No, but now I know if the fight’s not going my way in the first few seconds, they’ve papered my rock, and I depart for another point. It’s called strategy.

ok, think about this, would you consider it fair to have people read your statement when you didnt even bother to read the Op and realize this wasnt a “nerf thief” complain thread? Dont you think that, while the OP didnt mention Thieves as OP and vaguely relate the threat to them, many other people are having a really tough time with thieves, regardless of whether they have played them themselves or not?

I didnt bother to read your reply either, a person who doesnt bother to read a careful and civilized thread that provides solutions to a blatant problem does not deserve my attention, because just like you assumed all I said was “WAHH WAHH S THIEF TOUCHED ME IN PLACES” Im gonna assume you said “WAAAHHH WAHHH THIEF IS UP, L2P, SPAM AoE, NOOB, MY CLASS IS TOTALLY FINE”

Thieves need some risks involved in playing them, a well played thief should NEVER die, that is not ok. High damage spells need one or the other of these; high casting time, highly telegraphed, easily interruptable, visually easy to recognize OR long CD, easily blockable/dodgeable, involving a risk; if it fails then it was due to enemy skill, if it lands then it was your skill to know when to do it. backstab has none of this, in fact, it has the best of both worlds since it cant be blocked, dodged, seen, has 4 secs CD, can kill you in one sweep, all without you been to do jack about it, or even see it coming most of the time.

As long as you completely redesign the thief class so its not suck after such things, give them boons like protection, up there health to 18k and increase there overall damage out of stealth, then I am fine with this change.

yah sure, I will take 18k on my ele too, but it wont happen, but yeah, move the damage to skill you can counter, stuff that puts them at risks, risk that EVERYONE runs already, they are way too safe right now, specially for the damage output the can put out

People keep forgetting that, even if thieves were to be ok (damage wise), stealth is still a problem. If stealth is whats making them “viable” then there is a core proble that needs solving, because I have yet see a game where stealth was the core element to making something work or break it, now thats just wrong.
