why couldn’t that skilled player be wearing appropriate exotics and that noob player wearing MF? the case could be your case or my case.
But let’s compare the gears as if they were worn by the same person/or 2 persons who have the same skill level
Berserkers (power, precision, +critical dmg) vs Explorers (power, precision, mf) = both are glass cannon but berserker wearer will do more dmg.
Knights (power, precision, toughness) vs Explorers (power, precision, mf) = i know for a certain who’s gonna be one shotted or die a lot.
cause it’s a hypothetical question to find out whether or not it’s the gear/performance that you guys hate or if it’s the attitude behind MF in general.
to me it seems to be a stand on principal than performance in a dungeon. which is just humorous, and something the devs should know when they decide to change it or not.

OP, what server are you on? Are you tired of being beaten in T1 WvWvW? Is that what this thread is really about?
I don’t believe this is written by a person using MF at all. The self-deprecating things he says about the system and how if effects himself in the party are verbatim the diatribe you hear from anti-mf folks on Reddit and the forums.
If I had the time I could probably pick sentences out of the posts of three specific users on here and fully construct that confession.
People will have an issue with this as long as they think someone else is benefiting from their word or impeding their progress. More often than not it’s the players that struggle with the dungeon to begin with and need every single trait they can get that want other players to be able to more effectively carry them.
Plain and simple its a “But I need that extra 17 points in toughness, if he doesn’t then he must be doing it wrong and is making it harder for me” thought process that is chalk full of fallacy.
As always, MF only makes a difference when you have five people of the exact same skill, using the same quality gear, with the exact same knowledge of their profession and the dungeon. And that will never happen. So you can never prove the MF user is a weak link. Maybe the guy in Berserker gear has higher DPS potential, but cant properly capitalize.
That is all those numbers mean on the level of margin between MF and non. Just like its all they currently mean between exotic/ascended. Potential. Just because you have a gear set that makes yours higher, doesn’t mean you know what to do with it or how to make the most of it. Yet alone four other people in the party. For all you know the guy in MF could actually be outperforming half of the group.

Well if an item has say 4% chance of dropping and you have 170% MF the drop chance is roughly 10% instead.

and you’re not gonna be able to see an improvement from 4% to 10% just by ‘guessing’. now if you have a BIG sample size of both ends with MF and without. im talking about 1,000 to 10,000 sample size. THEN you would see the improvement.

Hmm… lets see. If culing adds 2 secs of extra stealth which it is not supposed to. Why dont we jyst reduce stealth time to compensate? Makes perfect sense.
because culling doesn’t happen every where. it doesn’t happen in pve, it doesn’t happen in spvp, and it doesn’t happen in WvWvW(when you’re 1v1 or in a small group). this bug only happens around zergs in wvwvw.
does it really make ‘perfect sense’ to cripple the class in all those other aspects because of a bug in wvwvw? some stealths only last for 2 seconds. so that means zero stealth time? lol some stealths only last for 3 seconds. so that means only a 1 second stealth?
i hear the Sylvari have a racial that roots. That could potentially be useful, although I doubt it since there are much better ones to pick from.
I also hear the Human street rat story is great for thieves(if that matters to you)
If you have 1 QQ thread about a class every other day, that’s normal and to be expected in an MMO. But having 2+ active threads in just about every relevant forum complaining about Thieves, you know they might be on to something.
people are so lazy to learn how to counter the thief class, do you expect them to search for threads already talking about it? of course not, they’ll go the lazy route and create a new one.
this also gives them more attention. you know people craaaaaave attention. so instead of being buried in page 5 of a thread, they’ll start a new one and get direct responses to them

good thieves are virtually unstoppable in wvw. if theyre downed it’s because they made a mistake.
as anet’s ‘masters of mobility’ this is how things should be. if you can’t stun/root one long enough to kill them, then they’re gone and it’s your fault for letting them get away.

You should never state your own opinion and preference as “facts.” It’s OK to not like Healing Power because it scales poorly (otherwise, it could be too powerful and have some people want “healers” in their parties). It’s your right to play whichever way you want. But from there to say it’s never “right” or others to have more than 500 Healing Power is just Forum/Friends/Youtube hearsay-MANY players use healing builds to great effect.

The problem is that even after you get them to low health they stealth and run out of sight. Its much to easy for them to get into stealth, heck even the healing skill stealths them.

And honestly? thief melee weapons ARE ranged weapons.
We have more gap closers then any other class (Infiltrator’s Strike alone makes sword a ranged weapon.), and stealth on our melee weapons, but P/P has no stealth nore damage.

I don’t think you understand the meaning of balance. When one play-style requires an enormous amount of effort, and the other doesn’t, the game is not balanced.
sure it is. as said it’s risk vs reward thing. now, if melee did the same damage as ranged, then I would agree that it’s not balanced. i mean, that’s THE reason why thieves do so much damage, to compensate for the lack of defense.

imo, every class has 3 stats, Burst,Defense, and Mobility. If one class has the best 2/3 stats in the game=OP. In a Thieves case Burst and Mobility.
what about conditions, crowd control, support? it’s cute you only look at 3 things, but i would bet the devs look at more
odd solution to the thief, but i would be ok with it. that would make AoEs more useful too, which is what they want to counter thieves with.
if there’s a trait to increase movement speed then keep it in the 3rd tier of a non-dps trait line

I’m also pretty tired about Thief QQ. It is literally beyond a joke. I’m not going to type L2P for people but seriously, if you DON’T know here are some tips:
1. Stealth is NOT invulnerability. So here is the thing, you can use AoE when a thief stealths or you can (if you have one) just swing whatever weapon around. You won’t see the damage but you will likely kill the thief, they do tend to stealth at the last moment. Thieves get targetted by other theives ALL THE TIME, and I can’t count how many of them I’ve finished as they lay downed after coming out of stealth.
2. Stealth is NOT a get out of jail free card. So here is the second thing, you can use channeled skills that as long as you start when you CAN target the thief will continue to hit them when they go in to stealth. Same applies for your pets. Buggy game, but hey that is the way it is.
3. Insane damage per second DOES mean “glass cannon”. I don’t care what you say, if you are hitting what some poster on here laughably called a “bunker guardian” for 4-7k (I say laughably because the poster doesn’t play sPvP and doesn’t actually know the specs and traits for a bunker guardian) then you as the thief are specced all out assault and made of glass. Thief does not have any fancy defensive cool downs other than stealth, and I already pointed out how weak that actually is. So if you can survive the “coming out of stealth burst”, just like most MMOs, and know how to play YOUR class you can likely win because if you don’t know the thief shares the lowest HP pool.
4. WvWvW is a team game with team objectives. I suggest you learn to live with it, your server also has good/bad/excellent thieves running around too. If you think WvWvW is all about just what happens in your tiny bubble you are playing it all wrong. Learn your class, roll a thief for sPVP, learn to use defensive cool downs, roll/dodge and use YOUR skills appropriately.
5. Rock paper scissors STILL applies, to every MMO but more so in GW2, so many ways to spec within one class. If you can beat some thieves with a particular spec don’t be surprised if another thief can destroy you. So many choices for most classes, less so for thieves however.
6. After three rounds of nerfs to thieves the last major balance patch pushed MORE of us in to backstab builds. You may as well forget Anet riding to your rescue and dumbing down the game to suit your limited knowledge of other classes. Seriously. The next major balance change will likely put soft caps or limit crit damage overall, that means to everyone. I will personally have a rueful smile the day that happens as my thief won’t be taking 14k kill shots and other enormous spikes. But I will still be causing people to run crying to the forums on my thief
And finally, from every dev interviewer of Arenanet I can recall the classes played by them in WvWvW were predominantly Ele and Warrior. Some mesmer. Any Anet tag I’ve seen on a class in WvWvW in my personal experience has been Warrior. interestingly I don’t see any devs QQing, just getting on and playing the game.

Confirmed what? The fact that culling gives thieves an extra 2~ seconds of stealth? We should be okay with this? Stealth should be an initiation and sometimes an escape, not a dance around 5 enemies in and out of stealth for 10 minutes while the second people target and that casting bar starts the thief is already re-stealthing.

So Stiv, why is it fair that thieves don’t have to be such awesome elite players to easily kill victims in PvP/WvW, yet the rest of us have to be to have some chance of beating of them?

I had a few run ins last night.. there was one of these thieves in the jp on TC. For like 30 minutes it would come, dance around, be visible for 2-3 seconds, then go invisible for another 3-5 seconds while it ran around and reappeared again. Sure, they can’t really kill you like this very fast, but it’s almost impossible to kill them. By the time you move your pointer or tab to target them, and hit a skill, they are disappearing again.
I was fighting one of thief for like 10 minutes outside of anz, couldn’t kill me, but couldn’t kill it, just kept going invisible after 2-3 second of being visible. Really annoying.

I don’t think I’m crying any imbalance. I simply said they were annoying. maybe you should rethink your arguments instead of just raging and lashing out with your standard " you need to play a different game" line you borrowed. I see from your other posts you are a thief, so I gather you’re super defensive that once thiefs get reworked. you wont be skilled enough to kill anyone, and since you are used to the broken thief, you wont know how to play other classes, and will ragequit. you should probably start learning how other classes work now for the inevitable
changes to thiefs.
I actually dont play a thief(yet) but I have played stealthers in other MMOs. I’ve seen this all before. I’ll wait until the massive nerf hammer hits(cause every dev does it) and then ill work on playing a stealther.
So since your assumption of which class I play is false, would you like to talk more about your assumptions on my playstyle and how ‘bad’ i am. . .or are you just mad that we keep stomping you in WvWvW?

The problem with thiefs is that they can just run away once they realize they suck denying you the proud victory you deserve. That’s excessively annoying
you say that like its unfair or imbalanced though. that’s how they designed the class. the class is NOT designed to face tank you.
if you can’t get over the fact that thieves can and will run away when needed, then you need to play a different game. or prepare for rebalancing. they’d probably let us 1 shot you if they took away our mobility or stealth.
