What you don’t understand is vertical progression. Google it and learn what it is and what it does. No one is fooling anyone regarding vertical progression. They are operating from the definition and inferring results. This is what a rational human does. It’s why we don’t ever need to stick our hands in fire to decide whether it burns—we’ve experienced the burn and have inferred that it will always be so. By all means join in the conversation. But if you want to add to it meaningfully, you will need to educate yourself on the subject at hand. A good beginning would be to read through thread from the beginning. There is a free education on the subject of vertical progression available here and it’s a good place to start.

awww, you’re so cute. you think you can be condescending and it makes you smarter than me about the subject.

i never said the game didn’t have vertical progression. in fact i dont think i ever even mentioned the term vertical progression. but you have it in your signature so im sure you’re just mad that anet put it in the game.

personally, i LOVE vertical progression. i LOVE the gear grind and it’s the reason why i started playing GW2 again.

now that you know my stance on vertical progression(since i never said it here before) we can discuss the topic at hand.

the person i quoted used MADE UP stats to prove a point when there is no confirmation on what the new stats on ascended gear will be. he assumed, and as much as i hate the saying, it made himself look like an kitten

my point, is that even as much as 5 or 10 percent gear increase that a FULL ascended gear set would give you, is nothing game breaking. i bet you can complete every single piece of content in this game with WHITE gear. whats that called, common gear? lol i bet you the difference between common gear and exotic gear is more than a 10% difference for the whole set.

this ‘treadmill’ is all in your head which has been programmed since the start of your first MMO most likely. just like the players that cry because it takes too long to make a legendary, you want everything in the game given to you, if not, then you cry.

Someone ever played original gw1? Trap ranger was actually viable build and it was really fun to play. Same for spirit and minion builds.

were they viable at release? maybe you’re right in that it will take a lot of time to balance and they just dont have the resources now.

you throw your hands in the air and give up like they’ll never work on these issues. . .

The gulf will be MUCH wider once they introduce accessories, armor, and weapons.

For example, let’s just pretend that the increase in stats between an Ascended item and an Exotic is “only” 10% (it’s actually larger than that in many cases, especially Critical Damage, but we’ll just pretend it’s not).

how on earth do you know this? oh right, you’re just making things up so you can prove your point.

you may fool others in this thread with your made up math. since you’re in so good with the dev team and you know so much about what new gear is coming out, why dont you tell us some more stuff that we keep asking on the forums but the devs wont answer

its only 3 silver. . .this is not a big deal. make a compromise build or pay to be optimal lol

you have to do it because the devs programmed it that way. do you think they did it just to make you mad, no one else, just you? it’s there as a gold sink and a way to make your decisions count(aka be meaningful) in the game.

it’s like you’ve never played an MMO before. respec costs are ALWAYS in these games lol

you know which games let you do it for free though, no one is stopping you from playing those games if that type of feature is so pivotal for you to be able to enjoy the content

Get NPC Mobs and Material Nodes Out of WvWvW

Why am I stuck in queue for EB for 30-60 minutes and then seeing 5 people running around our first keep doing nothing but killing PvE mobs and collecting crafting nodes?

Level 80 Exotic Gear. . .

in WvW

Posted by: FourTwenty.4268

FourTwenty.4268

So since I started playing this game I’ve done WvWvW and Race/Story quests. Where can I get gear?

I have 5g total, and exotic gear on the TP is 3+ gold a piece. . .

I looked for Karma exotic gear, and read about one dude selling gear in some Citadel in Orr, but after running around this place for an hour I was unable to find the path that leads to him or the Vista that he’s next to.

So. . .where else can I get Cleric/Beserker gear that is NOT a dungeon? There’s plenty of single player games for me to play if I wanted to play PvE, that’s not what I’m looking to do here.

PS, I dont care about looks, just stats. Thanks in advance

Ascended Average: (1-0.5)1209 + 0.52.07*1209 = 1855.8 average damage
Exotic Average: (1-0.49)1209 + 0.492.02*1209 = 1813.3 average damage

Which means that you’re actually dealing 2.3% more damage on average.

oh dear lord! please stop the production of this game because new gear gives players a 2.3% advantage over another player who choose not to grind. what a incredibly overpowered gearset that needs to be removed this instant! how DARE anet give those progression players a 2.3% increase for MONTHS of grinding

i think you’re confusing mobility with survivability. dont pretend the devs balance the professions based on WvWvW where mobility does equal survivability.

think about this from a pve/dungeon/spvp/tpvp perspective where you have no where to run lol

FourTwenty.4268

Churning earth will actually blast finish twice even when the combo field is gone before the churning goes off, activating churning is a blast finisher.

FWIW, I’m pretty sure Churning Earth only has 1 blast finisher. When using Churning Earth in a field, the combo icon appears when I first use the skill, but the resulting boon doesn’t appear until I’ve finished channeling the skill. That said, I believe you are correct in that the combo effect will occur even if the field ended in the middle of channeling Churning Earth.

this is correct. no double finisher lol

I run a Might stack S/D build in PvE. I use the same runes OP mentioned. From my experience, Power/Vitality/Toughness gear is a better choice than Berserker’s for this build.

Reason being that in order to get the full Might stacking combo off (Ring of Fire -> Phoenix ->Dragon’s Tooth ->Arcane Wave -> Earthquake -> Churning Earth) you need to be standing still for 8 full seconds, while in melee range of multiple mobs. With P/V/T gear, it’s not hard to tank standard groups of mobs that way. With Berserker’s, it is.

I often find that in full Berserker’s you need to cancel the full combo and switch to Water to keep yourself from getting killed. In terms of getting the maximum Might stacks for you and your party, P/V/T gear is the superior choice.

and I agree here, it takes SO much finesse to pull off zerker gear on even a regular ele, let alone a might stacking one that has to turret to combo.

go PVT gear

Staff is great in zergs but is a very limited weapon and has some glaring issues.

1. all of it’s hard hitters have long delays. Lava font, Ice Spike, and Eruption can all do a decent amount of damage, but they’re easy to avoid in small group fights and even if they land, the DPS isn’t actually that high. Targets that I can kill in 1-2 seconds with D/D or S/D and 3-4 with S/F take 6-8 seconds with staff. Is that little bit of extra range seriously worth doing 1/3 – 1/2 of the damage and having your best abilities be easily avoided?

i think this is whats wrong. people see the DPS potential of D/D and they expect to be able to nuke people like that from 1200 range.

Sorry, that’s OP

Hi everyone,

I found this nice calculator on reddit (http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/115mln/power_vs_precision_vs_critical_damage_what_do_we/c6jn8f7), but unfortunately it didn’t have the option to mix trinkets/upgrade components. I modified the excel sheet a bit to allow this manipulation. Hope you guys find it useful! All credit goes to the original publisher, I just made some minor adjustments. Also, I haven’t changed the rune section to allow mixing different runes yet, but for now you can use the ‘misc’ row to add the stats manually.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AlZUN9OfsZ7DdG0yQnYxbWZjLWxPcmU4elQwS2xlQkE

Download it and open with excel or copy it to your own google docs to edit it. Somewhere along the way I removed the drop-down menu functionallity, but you can just change gear by checking the right name in the “stats” sheet: i.e. invader/knight/whatetever for armor and weapons, saphire/ruby for trinkets and jewels, 2 water, 2 monk and 2 divinity runes.

EDIT: Turns out someone already made an optimised version of this! It offers drop-down menu’s well, so it’s much more user-friendly in that regard. http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/136aa7/pve_gear_calculatorefficiency_optimizer/

EDIT2: My thoughts so far! Starting from a standard full invader armor/weapons + cleric’s trinkets set, the most optimal way (stat efficient) to improve your damage is by putting berserker jewels in the trinket’s upgrade slots. Because of this, berserker jewels are the only sensible upgrade components for anyone looking to increase their damage. Knight’s jewels do offer precision, but as far as upgrade components go, anything offering crit % damage would be much more efficient.

Adding ruby/berserker jewels to the cleric trinkets raises your crit dmg % by 18 (from 1.64 to 1.82 damage), crit % by 5%, power by 60 and “effective damage” by 220 damage. You lose out on 150 healing power and 90 toughness. The latter is what worries me the most.

From this point on, any points spent in precision or crit % damage, are better off being invested in power instead. But since all of our equipment adds power already, the 2nd most efficient stat is precision.

Swapping out invader armor for more cleric pieces results in a much lower effective HP, because you end up losing vitality for healing power.

If anyone is wondering, the total stats you gain from armor+weapons are 495-352-352 vs trinkets 504-343-343.

Changing weapons is another option, but again, you lose out on tankiness. Replacing invader’s daggers with Knight’s is the most conservative option. You lose some vitality, but actually gain some toughness. Power goes down a little, but since you add more precision your overall damage increases. As I mentioned earlier, adding power is more stat efficient than both precision and crit damage in our current build, but out of the latter two, precision is more efficient stat-wise for everything but jewels. So going Knight’s daggers seems like a possibility for anyone willing to trade some health for an even higher damage output (mainly due to a higher crit chance).

I didn’t play around with condition damage, but others might be able to figure out interesting stat combinations. The main reason crit damage appeals to me is because it increases burst (which is the one thing “lacking” from my original build) and it ties in great with the constant fury uptime thanks to the aura traits.

thank you for this. almost got my elementalist to 80 and i loooooove the process of optimizing for min/max purposes. this will be very very helpful to me soon

Staff doesn’t do the damage to qualify as a ‘traditional mage feel.’

maybe the game can’t be balanced around that, maybe that would be too OP

I dont think I should focus on just offensive buffs or just heals, I think it should be more balanced so that I can be useful when we need to push as well as when we need to hold a gate. Buuuuuuuuuut, if there’s an offensive buff spec that is just over the top optimal, and there’s a defensive buff spec that’s over the top optimal, I would love to see those as well, I dont mind respecing, or even rolling another toon in order to BEST help my server.

I only have a level 7 Guardian at the moment, so I’m very very new to the profession, excuse me if I dont quite understand the concepts of what the Guardian can or can not do.

Regardless of anything they or anybody else says, a company is a company and a company solely exists to make money. If they can make more money by doing something, you’re darn right they’ll do it. This is not a bad thing, nor is it a new thing, every successful company does this.

so they’re ‘innovative’ and ‘cutting edge’ when they get rid of the trinity everyone uses, or gets rid of ‘vertical progression’ that companies use to keep people grinding, or even when they get rid of the standard fetch quests.

BUT, when it comes to this. they have to be just like ‘every successful company’ right?

It’s a common tactic for making people spend more. You sell store currency in increments of say 200, 400, 600 etc. and then price items at 450 or 700 or whatever. People have to buy slightly more than they want to use, and then either use up the extras on stuff they might not have otherwise bought, or the next time they’re tempted they tell themselves “Well, I still have some gems left over, so that saves a bit of money, I might as well get it”.

coming from a company that wants to make ‘a game for gamers, by gamers’. . .you would think they would opt out of using cheap ‘tactics’ like that

FourTwenty.4268

I’ll say what I say to others,

MF gear doesn’t reduce your damage significant enough to lets say “significantly slow down your run”.

MF gear reduces your survivability so if you’re dying heaps then yes you’re slowing the run down for your teammates, but if you know timing and the dodges and you’re not the one downing all the time then you’re not being a liability.

Player skill and non-communicating players are the real culprits of inefficient runs.

You have to assume all things equal (player skill, builds etc) with only difference being gear or the comparison between MF and non-MF gear is moot.

As for the speed of the runs…yeaaaah, you’re wrong. Take my stats for example:
MF gear: pow-2942, 34% crit, 52% crit dmg.
Non-MF: pow-3389, 44% crit, 116% crit dmg.

Using the formula from maddoctor and axes I use: Damage done = (weapon damage) * Power * (skill-specific coefficient) / (target’s Armor)

MF: 952*2942*1/2600=1077
Non-Mf: 952*3389*1/2600=1241

MF crit: 1077*1,52=1637
Non-MF: 1241*2,16=2680

Average MF: 1077*0,66+1637*0,34=1267
Average non-MF: 1241*0,56+2680*0,44=1874

So the BASE difference on my gear is 47,8% more DPS with damage gear.
Now, if I take in to account that I have perma fury (20% more crit), sigil of bloodlust, banner of discipline (10% crit dmg – perma on most bosses), self might of 5-8 stacks AND those stats for MF are from beserker weapons (so if I took MF weapons even less dmg right there)…the difference starts becoming ridiculously high even before accounting for other ppls buffs (mmm, dat timewarp and guardian quickness+might)…those axe autoattacks go up to 4,6-5k per crit hit.

Now, think of the same 5 ppl with MF gear and 5 ppl without. Massive massive difference in speed.

i think the thing is that you dont ‘have’ to assume all things will be equal. I doubt you’re gonna pick 2 random pugs to do a dungeon and the both be equal across the board.

one will be better than the other. if a person can make up the difference between himself and the ‘average bad’ pugger with skill and reaction time/usefulness to the group, then i say let him wear MF.

ill take someone that knows what he’s doing, but does 10% less damage(because of MF gear) than the ‘average bad’ pugger that has no idea what he’s doing

So I see all this post about thief and ...

This is a symptom of the burst/bunker issue that is plaguing PvP at the moment. It takes one of the stupidly high burst builds to counter one of the stupidly high healing builds.

I like that though. it helps add to the paper/rock/scissors element to it all, which to me, adds sooooo much more to the meta.

I could be totally off since im not in any high level tpvp yet. . .but i do enjoy that added layer of strategy/complexity/whatever you wanna call it

but it’s not. if you’re in a guild and you ‘know’ what someone is wearing, then sure. but not in a pug. you have ZERO clue(if they choose to hide it) on whether or not they’re wearing MF or not. so you dont get to pick

<—- Playing since pre-release weekend.

I do think drops have diminished in recent updates. I know the price of common things (unidentified dye anyone?) have gone up considerably recently.

I think that in the War on Bots, open world PvE Farming has been a casualty.

I also think that I still have a fun game to play, I still end the day with more gold than I started with, and that improvements are still being made.

One of the biggest improvements A-Net made recently is to allow higher level loot to drop in lower level zones. Lvl 80 rares drop when you’re down leveled all the way to 55 and I’ve pulled lvl 74 rares of of level 12 harpies as recently as last week. Not max level, but still salvaged for 2 ecto.

I think the normal farming methodology: “I will put myself in Orr and farm the trash for hours” does not work. I hit Orr some days for a little while, hit Harathi Hinterlands and play with centaurs some days, I tend to rove around and not settle in any one spot. I think a savy PvE farmer needs to figure out a new set of skills in the current environment, but (based on my experience alone, your mileage may vary) I think PvE farming is still viable.

What is not feeling viable (sadly) is farming specific things. In GW1, if I wanted Destroyer Gauntlets, I could hunker down and farm Destroyers until I got enough Destroyer Cores to get my gauntlets. In GW2, with Lodestones, I don’t have the feeling that I can do this.

I do think that A-net is working on solutions. I do think that they listen. I remember participating in a discussion about Vanilla vs Omnomberry and the comment that we as players understood the need to limit the availability of Omnomberry Bars, but felt that Omnomberries should be the limiting factor, not Vanilla as Vanilla was needed in several different recipies. A-net’s response was to increase the rate at which Vanilla was available and set a higher respawn timer on Omnomberries. It was exactly what the player community had advocated.

Give it time, provide feedback, understand that in the A-net dev cycle, the Nov 15 patch was a substantial new content and balance patch and that the Dec patch was focused on a holiday event. They’re already talking about January – Feburary changes, so let’s give them a chance to get things implemented while we kick back and enjoy the holiday content.

this is a very positive post and something that i am glad to have read. gives me more confidence in the game.

Pay to progress = pay to win. It’s not hard to understand. It’s also the reason the game is focused so heavily on grinds. See above, P2W games always follow this path.

sorry kid but this is not a Pay to Win game. Pay to Progress is not even pay to win, i have no idea where you came up with this logic.

pay to win is when you can purchase something in the cash shop that makes you more powerful than noobie nooberson next door if he chooses not to use the cash shop.

anet could even sell exotics or legendaries in the cash shop and it would NOT be pay to win. why? because mr. nooberson can grind for a couple weeks/months and be JUST as powerful as you are now.

as long as the items in the cash shop are available in game. and can be obtained without spending CASH, then the game is not pay to win

you’re welcome for educating you on what ‘pay to win’ actually means

Waypoints. Was this a good idea?

without mounts, there is no way i would play this game if i had to walk everywhere at the current rate of speed. even one waypoint per ‘area’ would not be enough, not even close.

I agree with this. The cosmetic in this game is absolutely horrible I am level 40 on my warrior now, and I crafted all my gear. All my crafted gear looks like I am still level 1.

this is sad to hear. i thought it was odd that i still looked the same as a level 20 as i did when being level 1. i was hoping it was just the starter area and it would get better. . .

even crafting makes the same crap?

Was the RET guild in the invunerable spot behind redvale refuge in CD borderlands attempting this a few minutes ago? That was quite a hilarious try! I kept downing that ele commander but she would mistform back to the invu spot… Hope you recorded that.

sounds cheap to me
