The teams were so evenly matched. I know I might sound like a scumbag when I say this, but I prefer it when one team just dominates every other team every week over and over again and become that unreachable pinnacle that everyone aspires to conquer.

For instance Denial is absolutely dominating the tournament scene in SMITE right now. Last week they managed to pull off an insane 3v5 when two of their team members disconnected. It’s just amazing to watch them play.

Back in the day I used to anxiously anticipate the Bloodline Champions games where In Soviet Russia (later called SK gaming after sponsorship) dominated every other team.

Auto-turning does not belong

Geff.1930

I can speculate that the devs have atleast considered at length the auto-turning functionality of cetrain skills. Note that they only recently changed the Engi magnet skill from auto-turning to now requiring LoS. I want to know why they have not made this requirement global.

I don’t think it’s a matter of convenience. If players are given a choice between convenience and effort ofcourse they will choose convenience over effort. But, the question you have to ask yourself is: Is the game rewarding a player’s level of skill proportionately?

Maintaining LoS demonstrates proper positioning and awareness. Other things that demonstrate this are managing cooldowns and endurance effectively (not only your own, but keeping track of enemy cooldowns and dodges) and knowing the range and speed of projectiles (the latter to a lesser extent in this game). If someone who has the wherewithal to maintain LoS is being rewarded equally to someone who isn’t doing so and merely spamming skills at targets who are behind them then we are not rewarding skill proportionately.

I was going to say that bunkers having bigger hit boxes would be advantageous because they could intercept projectiles more easily. But, ofcourse as mentioned, hit boxes are standard.

If this game had player collision larger bunkers would be better able to body block. (perhaps another tacit suggestion?)

Warriors are balanced right now.

-Whirlwind does more or less damage than Phantasmal Berserker depending on the build of the warrior and the build of the mesmer.

-If you are comparing to the tool kit skill gear shield, that and magnet are the only worthwhile skills in that set. You have to waste a utility on it whereas you do not have to waste a utility for shield block. You also get shield bash with shield which is a really good skill.

- Bull’s rush stuns. Rocket boots does not. Would you rather have bull’s rush not stun and have all the facilities of rocket boots? I for sure would not prefer that.

-Guardians have much fewer hard CC’s. As a result all the damage output from Whirling Wrath can be easily mitigated with a dodge roll. Warriors have many options by which to keep people in Hundred Blades with CCs. Whirling wrath does a fraction of the damage of Hundred Blades.

-Rangers have a fraction of the health pool of Warriors(all classes do as a matter of fact) and are therefore more prone to CC burst than Warriors. Warriors can gain perma regen, not only for themselves but also allies if they waste a single slot on a banner and get the banner regen and banner CD traits.

-Guardians cannot build as a DPS spec. They can, but they won’t be as effective as Warrior DPS for instance. Similarly Warriors can build bunker, but they won’t be as effective as Guardians. Survivability is not the issue. Warriors can build survivable bunkers, but they won’t provide as much team support as Guardians especially if the enemy team has access to stability.

I think they should reduce the factor by which toughness and armor affects damage mitigation by a large amount and reduce all direct damage slightly. Also reduce the % mitigation from protection from 33% to 20%. And remove the vulnerability condition.

Right now condition damage is a band aid for the fact that a lot of builds are incredibly difficult (in terms of length of time, not skill required) or impossible to take down with direct damage.

If you want to judge this game by the standards of an RPG then the system in place is fine. But, if you want to judge it by the standards of an esport MOBA it is not fine.

You mean like in DotA 2 where you right click the enemy once and your hero will autoturn, automove in range and autoattack to victory until the target is dead?

Maybe you were thinking of FPS and not MOBA?

Also, this game ground target AoEs (Necro staff) aren’t OP enough for you? We need to nerf every other skill in the game?

Dota 2 uses an isometric view and therefore LoSing behind opponents does not apply. But, instead think about SMITE which is a 3rd person MOBA. Imagine if Anhur could run away from an enemy and without even turning around shoot Impale behind him to knock back enemies, or if Ymir could frost breath enemies chasing behind him.

Again, I’m not asking for skills to be aimed. Simply they cannot attack targets that are behind you. A lot of skills already follow this mechanic and all autoattacks already follow this mechanic.

This game does not have gcds but it does have short cast times for skills so that most skills cannot be overlapped. The cast time is basically the animation time. if you overlap a cast time skill with another cast time skill it will interrupt the first cast time skill used and put the skill on a short cooldown (I think around 2 second). You can however overlap cast time skills with skills that don’t have a cast time (with few exceptions).

If you swap weapons mid cast you will interrupt the cast. If you swap attunements mid cast you will not interrupt the cast.

Using the WoW analogy think of non cast time skills as off-GCD skills.

In the video the ele started off with a cast time skill and then immediately spammed a number of non cast time skills. She started with Earthquake which has a cast time, but before the animation ended she teleported to her target using lightning flash thus hitting the target with both earthquake and lightning flakitten the same time she switched attunements and hit the target with blinding flash and lighting strike (both no cast time) and the two utilities arcane blast and arcane wave (again both no cast time) resulting in a total of 6 skills hitting the target all at once.

Maintaining LoS on a stationary target might not require skill but maintaining LoS on a skilled person who tries to consistently stay behind you does require skill.

If you want to judge this game by the standards of an RPG then the system in place is fine. But, if you want to judge it by the standards of an esport MOBA it is not fine.

Again I repeat, maintaining LoS is different from aiming. I’m not saying that your target has to be directly infront of you. I’m just saying that the target cannot be behind you. Yes, it might not be difficult to turn around, but it is certainly easier to not even bother to do that and simply spam skills.

Why should a boon benefit one class WAY more then the other?

Such logic… I’m in awe.

Let’s try a logic exercise Mr. Brainic. I’ll take it slow so that you can understand.

Scenario# 1:
As the game currently stands, if a guardian and a warrior both have the same healing power(assume 0 healing power) does the guardian get more healing per tick of regen than the warrior?

Scenario# 2:
Now, let’s say they implement your idea. After implementation if a guardian and a warrior both have the same healing power(assume 0 healing power) does the guardian and the warrior get the same healing per tick from regen?

Now let me answer your question with my question:
Why should a boon benefit one class WAY more then the other?

Its called strategy, what class are you?, for sure i can form any argument of a skill of your class and complain about it.

Whe should remove autoattack by that logic, we should make any ranged character actually has to aim theyr hits so they can land and not be auto traveling to the enemy kitten .

This is class unspecific. Just like Warriors can shieldbash or bullsrush or eviscerate behind them, thief can, for instance, heartseeker behind them, rangers can point blank shot and so forth.

I’m not asking for aiming. Precise aiming and simply maintaining LoS are two different things completely. Autoattacks already require LoS on your target.

I find auto-turning to be an incredibly unreliable, and even then a necessity for my limitations.

Not to sound unsympathetic, but not everyone suffers from whatever digital limitations you are afflicted with. While I understand that you might have hand problems, frankly with these hand problems you are handicapped “against pro players” regardless.

Even projectile skills make you auto turn. There is something wrong with this. Any skill based game that wishes to be taken seriously cannot have this system in place for so long.

Even most newer mmorpg games with PvP do not allow auto turning. If this game sees itself as esport quality it should exceed the skill demand of an mmorpg, not have a lower skill demand.

Btw, I’m not talking about auto-turning when your opponent is in your field of vision but at an angle. I mean skills make you auto turn and attack even if the the target is directly behind you.

Geff.1930

I’ve found that a large majority of the skills in this game make you auto-turn to face your target. This feature is unacceptable in a game that claims to be a skill based game. Maintaining LoS on your target and circle strafing are a masteries that require skill.

As it stands you can be running away from your target, facing away from your target and use a leap finisher to leap towards your target that is behind you. This is unacceptable.

The Warrior mace skillset is a good example of a skillset that requires skill to connect as all the skills with the exception of 5 do not auto-turn you, and moreover have a very short range.

I will grant that before changing auto-turning the devs might have to invest some time into fixing camera smoothening as turning can become a daunting task with this feature in place, especially for new players with low mouse sensitivity.

EDIT: There is some confusion about auto-turning and aiming. My intention was to suggest that skills require their target to be within approximately 180 degree radius infront of the player, not directly infront of the player. Auto-attacks, as well as some skills, already have this limitation built in.

Constructive necromancer thoughts.

in PvP

Geff.1930

Here is my opinion:

The problem isn’t that necros have high damage, eventhough people think that that’s the problem. No, necros absolutely need the high damage because they do not have high mobility and break stuns like other characters. Glass cannon warriors with berserker stance and CC can easily kill necros.

The real problem with necros is that 1) all their damage comes from conditions 2) The method of application of these conditions is ground targeted persistent AoEs. The result is that the class just seems to rely on cheap tactics. You don’t even have to LoS your target to apply conditions. I will grant that rangers and mesmers use similar cheap tactics in the form of traps and phantasms that follow your target even if you LoS the mesmer. But, rangers do not possess the amount of burst condition application that necros do and their traps are on a comparatively higher cooldown. Both of these faults in the ranger are justified because 1) rangers do not rely strictly on condition damage and 2) rangers have high mobility.

My suggestion for necros is to give them more direct damage potential while reducing their condition application potential so that their overall damage potential is the same. Secondarily give them skills that actually require LoS/positioning as opposed to mostly ground targetted AoEs persistent or self centered AoEs.

Bunker Warriors viable yet?

in Warrior

Posted by: Geff.1930

Geff.1930

I terms of survivability I see bunker warrior and bunker guardian as being on par for the following reasons:

Guardians have better healing options. They have heals through meditations and symbols. Their healing skill shelter is incredibly difficult to interrupt as it blocks during the cast time. All warrior heals can be interrupted easily.

Warriors, on the other hand, have the major advantage of having a huge default life pool. They also have much more hard CC.

In terms of utility imo Guardians beat Warrior for the following reason:

Warriors can grant persistent boons through banners, have an insta resurrect and can also grant CC support. But, they do not have the amount of burst/passive heals that Guardians have. Guardians have two burst heals(3 if you count orb of light) through staff’s empower and merciful intervention. While warrior gives persistent regen through banner, guardians can also give persistent healing through symbols (assuming teammates stand on them).

In a teamfight enemies will not target you. While the CC support from warrior is okay at helping your teammates survive, the healing support from guardians I’ve found is much better at the task.

Warrior is not allowed to be OP

Hope you don’t mind me expanding on this.

Berserker Stance removes all conditions and stops them being applied to you for 10 seconds…possibly 12 if you trait stances.
Signet of Stamina removes all conditions.
Restorative Strength – Removes chilled, immobilize and weakness on heal.
Mobile strikes – Any movement skill removes immobilize.

I wouldn’t have to expand on it if you read through all your traits or read my post carefully. I specified that it was a warhorn trait.

There is a warhorn trait that makes warhorn skills remove a condition when used, along with that it also reduces warhorn skill cooldowns. Warhorn 3 ability removes cripple/immobilize/chill by default. With the cooldown reduction those two warhorn skills are on a 12 sec cooldown.

I hope that is adequete explanation.

Berserker stance is 8 secs when untraited. It does not remove any conditions retroactively. It is preventative assuming your opponent does not have condition duration increases (i.e you will still be afflicted with conditions if the opponent has condition duration +% mods).

Funniest post I read:

Warrior also can’t remove conditions

LOL, omg just LOL!

Warriors have condition removal on par with guardian with very little investment (Signet of Stamina and Berserker Stance). Their condition removal can far surpass even Guardian’s condition removal with sufficient investment.

If you trait warhorn you remove 2 conditions every 12 seconds along with free removal of cripple/chill/immobilize. On top of this you can trait to get free shake it off every 20 seconds if you have 2+ conditions. Even more on top of that you can trait cleansing ire to remove max 3 conditions with full adrenaline bar.

WTF are you talking about when you say Warriors don’t have condition removal.

They need to fix Glory sucking as that is supposed to be for PvP rewards and is underwhelming at it.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that a vast majority of people who play sPvP competitively don’t give two cents about PvP and rarely venture out of Heart of the Mists, which is as it should be. As a result PvE exp or gear doesn’t help them.

pve gear in pvp? What are you talking about? You can’t use pve gear in spvp.

I highly doubt that it was a hack. Don’t disregard the other possibilities and immediately jump to the conclusion that it was a hack. If you saw it being done over and over again in multiple scenarios then I would grant that you might have a good case.

1. Most logical conclusion is that you were having an internet issue creating lag.

2. Some anomalies do sometimes occur in the game once in a blue moon. Perhaps you were witness to one of these events. Most notable one is falling through the ground.

Once on my warrior an engi used his big knockback skill a and another engi standing a little farther away used his knockback skill; this resulted in a death during the first knockback, but before my body could hit the ground it was launched again. The start of the knockback chain occurred on the bridge by Bear and the eventual point of impact was supposed to be the wall at the corner between the two bridges on the way to Raven. Instead my body went through the wall and ended up on the bottom floor below the bridge.

There have been similar instances a couple of other times on different characters. More often than not you fall through the ground to your death.

I get what you are saying, about the stunbreakers atleast. If you are building condition removal you are indirectly still building for damage because you have to be alive to do damage…

Different classes get different mileage from stun breaks. Most stuns can be avoided through a variety of ways pre-application dodge/block/invul etc. (exception: Baslisk venom) And stun skills generally tend to be on a long cooldown. Not so with conditions, as most conditions are applied through either auto-attacks or ground spam. If you are a ranged character and can confidently avoid ground spam then you might have the luxury of investing into CC-breaks/immunity.

Consider also, about half the classes in the game rely heavily on conditions. These include rangers, necros, eles and to a lesser extent engis. Thiefs (caltrap/evasion thiefs) and warriors can also spec for condition, but seldom do. Without adequate condition removal/avoidance you already know the outcome of every fight against them before you even engage.
