100% reward?

Yeh I am not big on crafting in this game, so a legendary is then automatically out of the question. Don’t mind so much cause I don’t really like any of the skins at this stage….so the world completion reward wasn’t really worth it to me. And the items are bound so you can’t sell them either.

However, I did enjoy completing the world and the zone rewards were nice enough.

People like you are part of the problem. Why don’t you leave the forums if you don’t want to see people’s criticism? Do you come here just so you can put your hands on your ears and pretend you’re playing a flawless game?

It has nothing to do with hearing other people’s criticism. This thread isn’t criticism. It’s someone blaming the game for people sleeping at 7h30 on sunday morning. That’s just kitten Has nothing to do with how perfect GW2 is or isn’t. I’ve voiced my own criticism about things in the game but this just is not a criticism about the game. It just isn’t.

His post and complaints were very clear and shared by many others. You can’t be helped if you choose to misinterpret them.

What is there to misinterpret? Who in their right mind would complain about not many people being on in the morning? Seriously, I do not understand how you can defend this intelligence-numbing thread.

His complaint is pure and simple. There is hardly anyone online on sunday morning….well doh.

Would anyone like to see it more rewarding to quest in lower level zones?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

So your fun depends on how efficient you are?

What I think is funny that you would limit yourself by going to lower areas.

You are in fact limiting yourself by not going there. You still get good rewards for low level events, just not as much since it’s 10 times easier. You do get drops for your level, especially from chests. Just not as much.

So, you have the choice to exchange some loot for variation in the game. You don’t limit yourself when you have less loot and karma. You limit yourself when you think that you can only have fun when you make the max loot and karma.

The game doesn’t need you to grind yourself silly, unless you want to get a legenday weapon but how big of a deal is it, if you get it in 3 weeks or 4? Especially when 3 weeks means boring grind and 4 weeks means variation and more fun, less annoying risen.

Really there is a choice and you are the one limiting yourself, not the game.

Some parts of areas, especially with rich nodes can be a bit tougher like that. Since mithril can be found in many other places, I don’t see an issue. It’s not like it’s part of completion.

You gotta think that not everything is soloable and if you encounter a situation like this, there are alternative areas to get your mats.

You now know about these places. You won’t go there solo again. Live and learn. I don’t think that they need to hand you everything on a silver platter as they say.

Some respawn rates are crazy I agree, but then again, it is part of this game and you can find ways of dealing with it. I know I have

MMO's need a grind but not for fluff

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Gehenna.3625

I am starting to get the feeling that this is more of a carebear version of a real MMO, suited for very casual and non competitive players.

On the other hand, you could be completely talking out of your rear end.

What on earth is a “real MMO”? It’s a stab under the belt from you just as the term carebears. So what is the carebear? A person who thinks skill is more important than gear?

The biggest losers in the gaming world are the people who need better gear to win. It’s the age old contradiction where “real pvp’ers” need gear to wipe out other players. Yes, it’s people who need gear, which is ultimately a pve element (think about it, the stats come from the game, not from your skill), that are acting like they are the real men, the big shots. But in the end they need to hide behind gear.

I don’t know what pvp is like in WoW, since I never played it but name me one MMO outside WoW, that has a gear treadmill and is still a big success today.

What gets me most is all those whiners here about there not being gear progression at max. level who apparently live in a cave or can’t read. For YEARS this game has been announced, advertisments made, interviews given by Anet staff, explaining that this game is not about gear treadmills and yet, you buy this game completely unaware and once you get to level 80 it’s like: “mommy, they don’t have gear progression. Waaaaaaah”.

Honestly, I don’t get you people. Instead of insulting the game and the players who actually think fun and player skill count more than gear stats here, just go back to any old treadmill game. There are tons of them and with a bit of luck they might have more than 3 active servers. But don’t come here complaining about something that’s such old news, that I don’t understand how you could’ve missed this part about GW and bought it.

Truly amazing. Cosmetics, fluff, whatever…this is what it’s about. Not the stats. It shouldn’t have been a surprise to any of you if you actually would’ve read something about the game.

So please, if you think you need gear to be a good player then feel entirely free to leave and play any other game. If you think that powerful gear makes you a winner, then yes….I shall say it once again….

THIS IS NOT THE GAME FOR YOU

sigh.

I don’t want this. Sorry.

It would turn boss battles that may have been challenging or at least fun at one point into a knockback contest. OR Anet would simply add stability to all bosses and/or make them immune to knockback.

In addition, this could be abused ridiculously. Pull 4 veterans to a cliff, dodge roll behind them, use fear, they fall and die, collect reward.

The invisible walls and boss buffs that would be added…nty

…because I don’t personally care for things like chainsaws in a fantasy setting…

Not to say that your particular taste is wrong or anything, but the the gear and steam blade 1/2h sword skins are already basically chainsaws.

I’ve seen the same complaint with regard to the aviator glasses.

These races have invented guns, mortars, tanks, inter-dimensional teleportation, force-fields, lasers, airships, and bio-engineering. …Is it really that far out there for them to have come up with something to expedite the whole cutting down tree thing, or to protect their eyes from dangerous UV rays?

That said..I think the Priory should get wide rim glasses, the Whispers should get aviators and the Vigil should get sport sun-glasses as faction specific town clothing you can buy from their bases ^.^

sword – machette
gs – chainsaw
staff – broom
dagger – hrm…I think this will be one of the ones they use, but nothing jumps out at me as appropriate and distinct.

Oh it’s just personal. I don’t care for those items you mentioned either, so I wouldn’t use those skins either.

I can’t and won’t stop other people from getting that stuff, nor complain about it to Anet, but I will simply state I don’t really care for that stuff.

That’s just one option.

The other one is that players can’t get knocked off the ledges.

Let’s be honest here. I’ve never seen a game with so many ledges and structures without a railing or fencing around it. Any sane being would, but if people complain about immersion, just stick fences or walls along the edges. Trust me that’s more realistic as it is.

Why did you guys buy GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Gehenna.3625

Many years ago I went to the store to buy WoW. I wasn’t sure though because the idea of paying a sub didn’t appeal to me. I never had played a game with a sub as such.

At the store, next to WoW, was a box called Guild Wars. It said no sub on the case and had a picture of Eve on it. She looked 10 times better than the WoW artwork and the no sub element was also important to me. I bought GW1 instead and never regretted it. Years and thousands of hours later GW1 grew kinda stale as no real new content was added and we knew GW2 was coming.

So I prepurchased the game based on my GW1 experiences and joined the beta’s. I was thoroughly disappointed and decided I had wasted my money.

And yet, when release came about, having paid for the game, I thought, well, let’s give it another try. It took me a couple of weeks but the game grew on me.

Ok, I generally like a good story line and GW2 doesn’t have that, but there are so many things I do like that I decided it wasn’t so bad and just enjoy the game for what it is.

Over 300 hours later I am still here and very much enjoying the game. Very happy it’s not a gear treadmill.

Its funny how many of these rose tinted mantra posts are beeing made every day.
“its good becouse i say so”

Load of bull. Some like it, some don’t. Both points are valid, but the game is made for those who like not having the carrot approach.

It might be good for you, but people are leaving in droves becouse of lack of things to do. My guild of 75 people logging in at start have dropped to 10.
So many have their char at lvl 80 and full exotic and max stats, so they stoped playing becouse they cant progress their character anymore.

People are not leaving in droves, but as with any game there is a good chunk of people who leave because this game isn’t for them. It happens to all games, especially MMOs.
You were probably in a guild with like minded people. It makes sense those guilds get hit hard when they found that when Anet said there wouldn’t be gear progression, they actually meant it.

Theres no queues to WvW even on the more populated servers, and theres almost more bots then players in Orr

This is a lie. I am on Piken Square. We are known as a roleplay server more than anything. There are WvWvW queues every night on our server.
And even though there are definitely bots on our servers, they don’t outnumber the players. I was completing the Orr zones a few days ago. Definitely a lot more players than bots there.

So please, stop acting like your personal experience with your guild on your server is representative for everyone. It isn’t.

But yes, if you want raiding with gear progression….wrong game. They said so for years and you didn’t listen. Sorry it worked out that way, but you could’ve known this game wasn’t about gear progression before you bought it.

Is blind underpowered?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I think what makes blind tricky is that people really need to watch the mob to have a chance to see what’s coming. With all the momevement and red circles on the floor. You don’t see a skill icon or casting bar either, so you really need to relearn how to spot incoming skills.

Once you can do that, blind is quite useful. When not, it’s mediocre at best.

Gehenna.3625

Huh? I love the story quests, The story is nice. Its not all “DEEP” but there is plot twists and likable characters. This game isnt a game you play, its more like an interactive storybook.

It’s also a matter of taste I suppose but I don’t like any of the npc’s mostly because of the voice acting.

The voice acting is flat, the voices and script are childish and the story lines are very predictable and have a big “been there, done that” feeling.

I know a lot was wrong with SWTOR but the story lines and voice acting was 20 times better. Call me spoiled but it’s what it is. I just left SWTOR cause endgame was all about raiding and gear progression, which I don’t care for. Raids are just silly Skinner type set ups in my view.

But all in all the story here starts with “this is my story” but it isn’t. It really is “oh btw, I was there too”.

And so with the childish voices and scripting, which is about the level of that Dungeons and Dragons movie that came out some years ago (the horror!) I am just glad that they are a small part of the game.

I skip through all the conversations now and just fight what there is to fight and claim my rewards. Much better that way.

No carrot on a stick is a wonderful thing

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Gehenna.3625

Gehenna.3625

Not everybody needs a computer game to feel good about themselves. The carrot creates a need to do content, whether you enjoy it or not. GW2 is based around the idea that you play because you enjoy it. That’s a very different approach.

With that, it must be noted that fun is not the same for everybody so there will be a number of people who decided this game isn’t fun for them. That’s fair enough but they should realises that this game isn’t for them and is not likely at all to change in that direction. Not likely at all.

I do think that more content for when you are level 80 is a good thing. It won’t be much longer before a lot of people have leveled to 80, completed the world and got their favourite armour together.

So next week we get a content update. Not just an event but also actual content. More things to do. So let’s see what that update brings us. It might be just the extension a lot of people are looking for and with at least another content update planned for this year, I would think that things are going at a good pace.

Gear progression was never the intent of GW2, just like GW1. The havoc it would wreak in pvp alone is reason enough not to do it. ’

No, I think that this game is just fine without the gear progression, but I do welcome content updates. I am not far from world completion and finishing my dungeon runs for my main. I have alts, but more to do for my main would be great.

Have they ever said why they did away with mana?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Gehenna.3625

I do agree at least in part with the OP.

GW1 had a much more interesting skill system and energy management was part of that system.

In GW2 it has been entirely absorbed in the cooldown system. The disadvantage of this is that instead of making choices between which skills to use when with a cost related to it, a lot of skills can only be used once a battle.

In boss fights this is most prevalent. A mesmer can use an elite to make everybody cast faster in an area. It lasts ten seconds and the cd is ages. In pvp this makes sense because it’s extremely powerful there. But in PvP with bosses that have a million hp or something it barely makes a dent.

The skill system suffers from its simplicity. It restricts which skills you can take by forced skills assigned to weapons and big cooldowns on most of the other skills. Not to mention that a lot of skills can’t be used under water.

Perhaps they thought it would make skill balancing easier…perhaps it has. But it hasn’t made playing interesting. I am sure that with the hundreds of skills and dual classes it was a nightmare for them to balance GW, but I think the GW2 system is too restrictive and is therefore lacking in depth and enjoyment…at least for me.

It’s not horrible, but it’s certainly inferior to the GW1 system from a player point of view. I now have 10 skill slots instead of 8 but with less variation and possibilities.

Energy management is simply an element that made the skill bar interesting and challenging. Just throwing everything on a cd timer and balancing around pvp, makes for a big missed opportunity to make pve more interesting on a combat level.

In my opinion, Map Completion is too rewarding, too boring

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Gehenna.3625

Gehenna.3625

Well people can play how they like of course. I never said otherwise. My point was that map completion was too rewarding, in my opinion, and it encouraged a kind of solo play style which I think, personally, is a shame because of Arenanet’s stated intent of being community builders. I, personally (do I really need all this qualification?), was a little fed up with the solo levelling style of other MMOs and hoped GW2 was a remedy to that.

Well, I don’t think it’s too rewarding if you look at what you have to do for it. Community building is one thing, but solo play is a part of any MMO because there are lots of people who like that, even in a MMO. However, as you stated also I believe there are groups of people doing completion together. That’s the thing, all the solo content can be done in groups. Your complaint seemed to revolve about them completing rather than joining the DE’s you want to do.

I have found that GW2 levelling ends up being just as much a solo adventure as other MMOs and the culprit, I think, is map completion. I’m not sure how stating my opinion is in anyway trying to force you to play in a certain way. Rewards do encourage certain playstyles though.

You answered your own question. By changing the rewards you do push people in a different direction. It’s simple an indirect way of forcing people. Rewards should be based on the effort needed and not on which type of activity.

My argument is that Arenanet ought to change the rewards for map completion to encourage more interest in DEs. If they were to do this then of course you will still have just as much freedom to play the way you do now. If you feel that lowering the reward for that playstyle is “forcing” you to play a different way then it follows that the current system is also “forcing” people to play a certain way. You can’t have it both ways, I’m afraid.

Why do they have to encourage more interest in DEs? Exactly because you want that. Again this is why I say you want to enforce what you want on others. Plain and simple.

I do completion not for the area rewards but for the completion. For some it may be the rewards or also but it’s not the only reason. There is a reason why the word “completionist” exists.

Furthermore, your evidence for saying that completion is the culprit here is about as thin as it gets. There are many more elements in play. Some events you will see lots of people regularly. There is competition between events. There have been lots of bugged events and not everyone knows which ones are fixed for example.

All in all, you are too easily pointing the finger and got the solution without having a proper foundation that actually proves or even indicates that this is a game wide problem. You see, just because you have this impression doesn’t make it so.

The wiser thing here would’ve been to try to find out if other people have the same experience and feel the same way, before drawing conclusions and offering so called solutions.

You see, your solution is a bad one for me. I like completion. It’s a lot of work so I also think I deserve a fair reward. At the moment it is. Simply lowering it to force people to do more DEs might just mean more people quitting. Who are you going to do DEs with then?

In my opinion, Underwater Fighting is not Fun!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Gehenna.3625

Gehenna.3625

Agree totally, and Anet moved it from bugs to discussion, that to me seems inappropriate as the bugs underwater are game breaking at the least..

It isn’t inappropriate. The title is that it isn’t fun. The bugs are part of the reason but not the only reason.

The bug forum is for reporting specific bugs, not for refering to bugs in general.

Back on topic:

There is a lot of underwater area but I also avoid it mostly. This has to do with the limited choice of weapons and the skill bars are not great for many classes. Guardians only get to pick one elite underwater. In fact there are too many skills that cannot be used underwater.

Since most of the active content is above water, I don’t care as much about underwater gear. Also because breath masks are not available in crafting or drops and I actually haven’t seen a yellow or gold one. This makes underwater gear a B-option as it is.

I also get sick from overaggro. Mobs can come from many directions and for some reason two barracuda’s always end up being 10 barracuda’s. It just seems that respawn and other issues are more annoying underwater than above water.

So I do like the underwater areas as such but the combat isn’t as nice for these reasons for me. In general I think there can be more spacing or smaller aggro ranges but that can be for above water as well.

This is why I use the term “character progression.” Loot is merely one way that a character can “progress.” Some will use vertical or horizontal progression — I prefer vertical. I want to continually progress.

I would like to believe that in 6 months, most of the players blinded by the initial release will come to terms with the lack of longevity. And, notice how pointless the obscene gear grinds truly are for what is received. If I’m paying the price of a Ferrari for a Camry — it better have the kitten power of a Ferrari somewhere under that hood. GW2 asks for the time/money, and then gives you the standard Camry. Congrats.

You prefer vertical progression. There are plenty of games like that. Why would you want a game that is different to conform? Why must all games do the same? You are not concerned about the game but about your personal enjoyment. That’s fair enough but don’t confuse the two.

Any MMO is pointless. Vertical progression in MMOs is equally pointless. Just a different activity…still pointless. The only real indicator is what you enjoy or not. That is what gives it value. As you said you prefer something. This game has a different approach. Shouldn’t be a surprise. It was advertised as such.

You call other people blinded. Maybe you are just being condescending to people who enjoy different things. Any MMO gets stale after 6 months. That’s why new content is important. It’s not a unique thing for this game.

You talk about a Ferrari price but most people don’t have a Ferrari priced car. Let’s talk brand items in general, like clothing. People pay obscene amounts of money for clothing just because it has a specific name on it….not because it’s really better.

What you want is be able to grind yourself silly to get items that make you more powerful than other players who didn’t do this grind (because they don’t want to or don’t have the time). This game is not for you.

GW was never about gear > skill nor is GW2. The legendary weapons are something that are more of a long term goal. Only few people will go through the insane task of getting one in a few weeks…because they are that mad. Not because they have to.

Really, why do you want to turn this game into something it’s not? There’s enoug games like that already. We don’t need another one. If you want a hamburger, you don’t go to kfc….and yet you came to GW2 and expect all the wrong things from it.

It is you who makes no sense.

Gear makes life easier but the point is that gear is not that hard to get in this game. It’s accessible to casual and hardcore gamer alike.

I am sort of in the middle of the two groups. I play a lot of hours (300+) but don’t spend a lot of time in Orr and only do a couple of dungeons etc.

Exotic level 80 gear comes as cheap as 2g a piece on the TP, sometimes even less. When I sold all the mats I gathered while leveling to 80 (I decided not to do crafting), I made over 10g. Just from the mats.

Honestly, it does take something to get it but it’s not that hard to do.

Abuse the report function as a threat?

Gehenna.3625

I know it’s probably normal that guild leaders make members do anything they request. But it’s obvious that my friend isn’t botting as he could join in and follow a zerg group.

So is it actually OK to use “report as botting” as a threat? Any thoughts people? :\

It is not normal and it’s not OK to threaten people with reporting them. In fact, it is against the rules to falsely accuse someone. If they were to report this person, Anet will easily see that this person isn’t a bot and then the guild leader will get warnings/sanctions.

I had it recently that someone threatened to report me. I just laughed at him.

I think the point is that the game offers stuff for different playstyles and the OP doesn’t like that people have other playstyles and wants to force them to help him with his events.

Sorry, but I can’t have a problem with people doing map completion and not stopping for events. It’s a choice and why should I or anyone tell them they have to do this or that?

I remember that there was some vocal(minority) people complaining about having to get the same dye they already had to another character and a dev said they would look on it.

Exactly and looking into it is not the same as promising to change it.

Yeah I think this is a great idea. I am in a small guild of friends and we aren’t always online but usually there are at least a couple of people there. This would be great and HM versions at some point could be cool too.

Remember the Elite areas in GW1?

Keep the PvP where it is.

I am sure more areas will be added. What you may not know is that most of these areas in GW1 weren’t there on release either.

There were no dungeons till later either. GW2 has dungeons and I am sure some elite zones will come out at some point.

But yeh it would be cool to have UW and FOW again, that I do agree with

Today's Maintenance?!

Ok i get you. Then you say “we find a bug/code/script that blablabla…”
Every file you download and patch your pc from microsoft you can read the article what it is about. I know it’s an extraordinary example but all other companies i’ve played their games was more and more honest about what is going on.
Even SONY was much more open to their customers when they were hacked.
You have rights to know what a kitten files downloading and patching.
That’s what i’m saying.

I think you are overreacting. This is not a secret and Sony certainly wasn’t honest when things went upside down for the PSN a little while ago.

This is just maintenance and yes there will be some files updated. This is how it worked with GW1 as well. You are perhaps just not used to this.

Not an expert but maintenance also means cleaning up existing files or fixing minor issues that don’t really make it a patch. So I would think it’s stuff like that. When files get corrupted for example they replace them.

The things is though that aside from the rewards, it gives you something to work towards.

The storyline is too far and between to give you a continuous goal and just doing DE’s for the sake of doing them/leveling gets boring.

Completion gives you a direction and in doing so gives you xp to level. If you complete all starter areas first, you simply are doing well for leveling and you have a sense of accomplishment.

Map completion can only be done once per character. The rewards are nice but considering the time it takes to complete maps, I don’t agree with you that the rewards are too good.

When I do map completion, which I do a lot recently, I actually participate in events because they make completing tasks much easier.

The real issue lies probably more in the fact that there are too many events per map and that it’s unclear when which events takes place. If I see an event I have to think about whether I will be there in time and if I am doing map completion or personal story quests, how often do I stop for events? Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t.

Q.Qers and why they feel the need to stick around and insult/attack people who like the game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Gehenna.3625

@Narkosys. If you want to make the game better then you can use constructive criticism. There isn’t enough of that because the so called haters just flame Anet and say 20 times that something is crap.

Rarely do we see posts that simply explain (without rampant emotions) what is wrong and why.

Rarely do we see posts with suggestion and simple questions why. Instead it’s “everybody knows” and “Anet doesn’t listen”.

If people were more realistic and actually use arguments rather than flaming opinions then it might actually give Anet a real indication. Now they have to interpret and hope that they get it right.

Also a lot of people think that Anet or any company only listen if you repeat it 100 times. Often enough it simply takes time to implement a change and weigh/test the impact on the game. So the idea that Anet responds to reiteration is an illusion. At least in the form it is now.

Anet can run statistics and see how many individual people are complaining about specific subjects. When you make 100 threads about it, they know it’s you and not 100 people. If the subject remains active and more people get involved in the topic, that is a real indication. Not that the same 20 people repeat themselves but that more individuals agree with it.

So no, reiteration isn’t the key, it’s just an illusion, based on false indicators. Again if I repeat something a 100 times before Anet makes a change, doesn’t mean I need to say something 100 times. I just might mean that they needed a month to decide, create, test, adapt, test and implement. If you had said it once but a long thread with many individuals keeping it active, the end result would’ve been there as well, without people getting any types of heart conditions. Just saying…

In my opinion, the game lacks longevity

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Gehenna.3625

Dear OP, let me summarise your initial post: You don’t enjoy this game and therefore you think this game doesn’t have longevity.

My response: Just because you don’t like the content, doesn’t mean there isn’t any. When did you get the idea that because you can’t see it that the rest of the world must think the same? I enjoy this game. I have over 300 hours of gameplay so far and still haven’t done everything I want to do and I do enjoy WvW (even though I didn’t expect I would).

I agree that sPvP isn’t that good at the moment but more is coming and there’s plenty I do like in this game. I agree with others that you rushed by too quickly and just missed most of the content, either because you didn’t see it or didn’t like it.

Let me just say it: This is not the game for you…and you do not represent me nor many other players.

Allways 3-4 levels behind

Gehenna.3625

This game isn’t really about storyline. I know, I know, they advertised it as such…but it isn’t. At around level 50 it changes from “this is my story” to “I was also there” anyway.

Point is, there is much more to do than the story line…a lot more. I stopped focusing on the storyline and no longer have this problem (I had the same problem in the beginning). The story line is childish at best anyways so I skip through it as quickly as possible now and focus on the rest of the game.

If you need xp and lots of it, do dungeons. Do crafting. Do dailies. Complete areas. My first toon started being constantly behind on level as you….but when I changed my approach it ended up that I was level 80 and still was at level 75 with my storyline…

Q.Qers and why they feel the need to stick around and insult/attack people who like the game

Gehenna.3625

I dunno but I’ve seen this on all MMO forums I’ve been to and in comparison to for example SWTOR and Aion, this forum is actually relatively mild.

The reason people stick around is that they can’t deal with their emotion of disappointment. And they get so angry about being disappointed, somebody has to pay for it (very dark side Star Wars if you ask me) and they don’t care who pays the price.

So in the end they hope to kill the enjoyment of other players and hopefully cause the game to fail purely out of a vindictive form of spite. It’s sad really.

I understand disappointment, I certainly understand criticism (I do that myself), but just reiterating the same thing over and over again because you can’t handle your emotions like an adult with a brain is really sad. But it is common on many MMO forums from my experience.
