Personal Feedback on Dungeons

•Anet needs to strike a balance between HP and mechanics. High Hp pools need to be justified by dynamic and interesting fights.

This is probably the only point I agree with 100%. Too many bosses have insanely high HP pools for no reason other than to lengthen the fight. The dynamics of the fight are so boring the huge HP pool doesn’t add anything to the fight.

Some of the other points I agree with on various levels. My biggest issue is how often Dungeon’s become impossible to finish.

I was with a group in AC, we got to the end of Path 2, and we became stuck. The NPC needed to complete building the 3rd canon but there were 7 ghosts. With the rediculous difficulty of the ghosts, the inability to separate them, and the NPC’s obsession with running and fighting instead of completing the objective it meant that i was impossible to finish and we sadly had to give up after 3 repair bills of trying.

Another example was TA at the Giant Worm… Twice we’ve gotten to this champion and got stuck becaue the adds re-spawned too quickly and once spawned, we were unable to proceed because iwth their current level of difficulty, they were impossible to defeat.

Dungeon’s as they are, are not profitable enough and they aren’t “fun”. Luckily I have a group with slightly above average skill I run with and we’re able to avoid screwing up but pug groups are plagued with overwhelming and discouraging outcomes.

why cant i do group events solo?

Wait a second, before anyone gets too far along in the conversation, I’d like to point out that GW2 did in fact, ADVERTISE the fact that their events are dynamic in a way that 1 person with better than average skills can beat the events and that the more people that join the event, the more difficult it becomes. I personally have not observed this to be the case. I’ve done many events several times with 3 people up to 40 ppl or more, the creatures do not change dynamically as advertised.

they do. Some, increase the Toughness/Vitality of a champion mob for each person fighting it, others increase the spawn rate or decrease the amount of progress each kill/action is worth. A Great example is the glider event in the Asura starting area. If you do the event solo, you have maybe 2-4 gliders at a time, and each glider is worth a significant amount of progress towards the events completion. But once large groups of people show up, the numbers of gliders increase drastically and the amount of progress they provide to the event reduces.

Also Anet has stated previously that the game is soloable 1-80 however not all content will be accessible. Some zones have content designed for groups and will not be possible for solo players. But the vast majority of the content is soloable. And most zones only have 1 small portion that’s not solo-able.

that’s true, but it didn’t start seeing it’s polish until several months later. HoH for example was very different at release, and even the original reward system wasn’t implemented until 2 months later.

But GW1 although it implemented more sooner, it didn’t follow the “It’ll be ready when its ready” philosophy GW2 follows. Although the systems and features that are in game aren’t perfect, the “big picture” is very full and round.

Honestly I don’t understand the need for more bank slots… 250 IS a lot when you include the 100 slots each character has in bags (not including additional bag slots)… thats 750 slots for 5 character 1250 slots for 10 characters… then factor in the 250 stack slots per ingredient… what is it people are hoarding?

I have a level 80 and 4 other characters made and growing. I don’t have 20 slot bags on any of them, and haven’t bought any additional bank slots… Sure there are times when I wish I had more slots. But it’s not at a point where I can’t function yet… and by the time it does I’ll have enough gems saved up (every day I convert a few silver I earned into gems) to buy a bank slot and I’ll be good to go…

I don’t know why but I’ve been having these issues recently as well. Maybe it’s because I find the problem more in Dungeon’s now that I run them regularly than in the over-world, but lately I’ve been having a problem seeing my aoe indicator AND even just my cursor.

Legendary Skills

Genreninja.8516

That would be too big of an advantage given to the holder of a legendary weapon. You can bet if they implemented something like that even more people would start complaining that legendary weapons are too hard to get.

The weapons are not hard to get they just require time spent.

That’s the point…

If it was hard to get, but accessible to everyone, this wouldn’t be an issue.

The problem is that this isn’t the case. You acquire these items based solely on time played, and not everyone has the time to grind for 5 million hours to acquire these weapons. Therefore, they should not give any advantage to those that do have the time (because that would be unfair).

GW2 is a game based on player skill, not time played, and Anet has been very clear about this since day one.

You make a great point, however PvE has no competition where this is an issue and sPvP already accounts by this by removing the stat differences from weapon/items. And WvW even though a proper lvl 80 will be more effective than a lvl 10 a lvl 10 can still take out a lvl 80 with enough skill. Which is also something Anet has been very clear on.

As for the OP’s idea of adding Elite skills you can unlock using Legendary Weapons. I like the idea. I’d like to see them add more skills into the game. Kinda how in GW1 you had tons of skills you could unlock for each class. I’d like to see more weapon skills become unlockable for the different weapons. And Legendary weapons having a utility skill would be a great start.

I want the titles to work as they do on WoW.

I’ve seen numerous people in game ask if this game has titles and how do you display them (and no, they weren’t low levels).

Someone in my guild said “oh, you have that HoM title. Just noticed.” about a month after the game came out!

Titles are far too invisible as they are now.

On a related note, the map star should show at all times too and be optionally visible on your own character. I know someone who was quite annoyed that he couldn’t see his own star.

I was around lvl 50 before I realized where the titles were, and it wasn’t until after this thread, that I realized the star meant map completion.

My guild is a fairly small but happy guild. My members don’t represent the guild because they have to or because it’s a “rule”, they represent because they want to. But they also don’t represent 24/7. During the day when numbers are at their lowest they get on their PvP guild, or their other friends guild, and socialize but every night like clockwork everyone switches back over to Spellborn and we start running dungeons together and having loads of fun.

I guess I could see why some “serious” guilds might have a problem. But I think it’s less a problem with Guild Wars 2 allowing you to be in more than 1 guild, and more of a problem with how you’re recruiting your members.

Spellborn never advertises in general chat. And we only recruit people that we’ve actually played with (i.e. we have a particularly kick as run in TA and mention to the other party members our guild is always available if they want to run dungeons again in the future). The guild members we have, a beautiful sense of pride in our guild.

You shouldn’t have to force people to represent.

(Also: I see a bit of the original Guild Wars conflict happening. haha The Players are beginning to create guilds and fight for player loyalty… Just like in Guild Wars lore. I <3 it.)

i remember pre launch how they(fans at least, maybe devs too) talked about the entire game was endgame. how at level 80 we’d be spread out across the world because the drops and rewards would be of an appropriate level for our current toon.

what happened to that?

I think it happens, just it’s hard to tell because you can’t see who is lvl 80 and just leveled down to the zone and who isn’t.

My guild is a great example. We’re small, have maybe 7 lvl 80s, and you’ll see us scattered. Why? One guy is Map completing his way up. Doing all lvl 1-10 zones, then 10-20 zones, etc. So right now, I think he’s clearing the level 20 zones.. While another guy is getting all the jumping puzzles so his zone level will be random as well.

Me, I’md oing them by region. I just finished all of the shiverpeaks, so now you’ll probablyf ind me somewhere in char terriritory. Yesterday I was finishing up the char starter area at lvl 80.

One things I’ve noticed: Phasing. This seems to have increased where I only see people when they’re x number of feet from me. Which means I’ll see no one, until an event starts,t hen all the sudden we’re all grouped up for the event, then they all dissapear again once the event is over. Which means, I’m not seeing most of the people on the map, even though their there.

I’m also kinda roudy so I keep map chat alive. There are usually people in the zone harvesting/mining/chopping/etc. And they keep to themselves. But calling out a Rich vein will help warm them up to chatting and maybe even helping you out.

For the record: I really don’t want those zergs back… They were more annoying than anything.

This is what color blindness looks like:

in Suggestions

Posted by: Genreninja.8516

Genreninja.8516

Colorblind mode for me is just turning off the aoe indicators and watching the rest of my screen. If you know a lot of “totally” colorblind people you know a lot of liars. True colorblindness in affects fewer than 1% of the color deficient population. As for tweaking color balance just for UI, no thanks. Red/green distinction is near impossible for me due to the severity of my color deficiency I would prefer an in gaame option to change my threat color to yellow and my friendly color to blue… and that wont help the blue/yellow deficient freaks out there ( not intending offense, but you folks are super rare), they’re good with the current colors though if I’m not mistaken.

Lastly, those pictures do not look the same to me. It would be great if you stopped trying to simulate a disability to pretend you understand. You cant, and until you wont, because at the start of the day you can still see all the colors in your closet and know you match when you walk out the door.

You make good points, but what a rude way to say it..

OP: The technology for creating color blind options is becoming more refined. It’s beginning to make an appearance in many other games. Specifically competitive games. Since ANet is hoping to make an eSport out of their sPvP modes, I’m sure we’ll be seeing it sooner or later.

How you prevent players from buying gold to goldsellers ?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Genreninja.8516

Genreninja.8516

I don’t want to get into an argument, so this is the last statement I will make here:
Of the data that I have seen. Which is significant. It is reasonable to say
1) Goldsellers are a criminal group
2) Goldsellers damage games
3) Goldsellers cannot be classified as competition because they are not in the same industry

These are not statements of belief. They are statements of statistics.

Agree to disagree. My position:
1) Many but not all goldsellers engage in or benefit from activity that would be criminal under American law.
2) The service provided by goldsellers is a benefit to games, but the actions they take in procuring and advertising their product usually cause more harm than the benefit.
3) Goldsellers clearly are in competition to Anet in that they benefit from the sale of a product (in game currency) that Anet also benefits from the sale of, and their profits in this regard are mutually exclusive. Even if they value their product at exactly the same price as gold on the TP, they would still be a more attractive option to players, and would still be profitable, because of (a) real world currency exchange rates, and (b) eliminating Anet’s cut of the transaction.

The long term solution to this for any MMO is carrot and stick – to continue identifying and prosecuting destructive gold sellers, while encouraging and working with legitimate ones to create a regulated, vibrant and safe gold market to players. That is to say, accepting the fact that people want to take real money out of your economy as well as put it in, and start planning for that admittedly more complex scenario. If GW2 survives as a popular game more than five years it’s going to be something that external legislative, legal and cultural forces are likely to make you do anyway, so you may as well start planning now.

(What you’re saying is the equivalent of:

  • a statistically large number of Australian motorcyle gangs are involved in criminal activity (true);
  • criminal biker gangs endanger public safety and undermine law enforcement activity (true); therefore
  • when you make a commercial trade with a person who owns a motorcycle you are supporting the corruption of Australian police forces (nonsense).
Moral: You can have unassailable statistics on your side and still end up talking nonsense if you’re not willing to engage with the complexity of the situation.)

I don’t quite see it.

1) Agree mostly. Legally I’m sure not “all” break the law but they all are ethically questionable, legal or not.
2) Gold Sellers provide no positive benefit to games… they provide the benefit to players.
3) You’re playing semantics with the word “Competition”. In context, gold sellers are not “competition” they are criminals, but that does not mean they are not competing. Stores compete with shoplifters, but that doesn’t mean shoplifters are their competition. And that’s what Goldsellers effectively are, shoplifters. hawking their ill gotten wares to the stupid and desperate.

seriously, click on some1, you see name/lvl/guild/title….why change that….what i would like to see, is my OWN title/be able to click on myself.

You make two great points.

It’s not that they need to change teh location of the title, it’s they need to make it more visible. Right now it’s a dull gray, and when you look for its not natural to look there. I kept looking up by the name, guild, level. Not beneath the health bar. and it’s low contrast meant when I was looking in the right area, I still wasn’t noticing it.

The other point I agree with, is seeing your own title. I wish I could.

You don’t even need the entire title to be over people’s heads (that may clutter the screen).

You could simply have a badge for each title and be able to display 1 badge at a time (much like the explorer icon).

I like this concept. I was visualising it earlier. At it’d be interesting, if the different Achievment areas had a marticular badge style, and then the titles within had their own unique modification to the badge. ..

However this would add something that isn’t already there. Maybe the little Achievement icon in the Detailed Tooltip window when you select a player could be where the badge is located?

I dunno, but regardless of badges, the current title needs more contrast.

I think 95% is a bit exaggerated All my friends got it, but no one in my guild did it in less than 4 hours and the majority took about 7 hours, I personally got it during my 8th hour. It’s not some quick mindless run a-muck. It took time, work, stress, and most importantly hours of practice and when I got it, it felt earned. It’s the only achievment that really carries that feeling. Which begs the question: Why did Pumpkin Carving get a Title, and not the Tower?

Also: i like the idea of an achievement that not everyone can get. It’s kinda what makes an achievement significant.

If it was perfect, threads like this would not have been created.

But again I’d like to re-iterate I don’t think the problem is where the titles are located, it’s how noticeable they are.

And a compromise to titles cluttering the screen if they were displayed with the name, is allow them to be toggle-able just like names are already.

Server: Dragonbrand
Guild Arch-Type: Casual
Contact: Genreninja.8516 or Seiwan.1760

It is not a requirement to be gay, nor is this guild about being gay. We’re just guys who like guys who like games and we found our roots in a gay social group. We don’t have a website or forums, we’d rather be in-game than monitoring those things. But we can usually be found on Skype chatting it up while we play.

We have a couple members on daily. We just recently finished collecting the Halloween Achievements together and plan to start digging into some Dungeons.

Although we’re not “hardcore” in any particular area we get out there and have fun in all aspects of GW2: PvE, sPvP, WvW, and even some light RP.

Our philosophy is Quality of Quantity. My friend and I prefer smaller tight knit guilds over the massive ad-hoc guilds with no real personality or rhythm. The great thing is, in GW2, you can have both. We’re here to enjoy the game and build a tight little family to enjoy it with.

Hope to see you in-game,

As annoying as it may be, it’s not entirely game breaking. The achievements are supposed to be challenging and it adds a bit of a challenge. Be a good sport and do it the hard way Then when they fix it, you can sit back in your guild and tell newbs. “Back in my day, we had to get ALL the exp in 1 zone! in 1 play session, with NO waypoints!” lol

I hope this gets looked into though. It’s a bit misleading to think the only way it resets is death, when it fact, that isn’t the case.
