Suggestion: Auto-Deposit Materials

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

That works unless you’re already over crowded inventory. If you have limited inventory space, due to any number of reasons (haven’t organized in a few days) (Particularly successful dungeons runs) (Fractals) (getting spammed with bag after bag of armor) whatever. I always end up with just a few inventory spaces to work with and having to Unpack bag, Salvage armor, Deposit all, Unpack bag, Salvage armor, Deposit All,

It be nice if I could just… toggle on.. “Deposit All Materials” and then when I’m harvesting/breaking down/opening bags/etc the materials I have space for will go straight there.

Just a suggestion.

Suggestion: Auto-Deposit Materials

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Genreninja.8516

Genreninja.8516

Hey ArenaNet,

I’m curious if there’s ever been any thought about having the option to let Materials Auto-Deposit to your Material Storage after breaking down an item? It’s annoying to Break 1 > Deposit Material > Break 2 Deposit Material > Break 3 items > Deposit Material > Break 4-6 > Deposit Material.

Why not have a toggle, and when there is space, it’ll auto-deposit. Otherwise, leave in bag?

Just a thought.

What magic do warriors possess?

in Lore

Genreninja.8516

My viewpoint is that there are essentially four broad categories of magic in Tyria:

Bloodstone magic is the magic that defines the four original spellcasting professions through the four schools of preservation, denial, destruction and aggression….

Draxynnic’s explination is the closest to what we know. There have been statements that a single person “could” learn the different schools of magic but the amount of energy and mental discipline it would take makes it near impossible.

The explination which I heard or read back during the GW2 beta was that using magic is a gift everyone has access to. But in order to actually use it, there is a level of mental training. A Warrior has basic forms of magic (i.e. enhanced combat prowess, embued shouts, etc) but these are the forms a magic a common person would have with some practice and training thrown in.

Attempting to practice 2 crafts is the equivalent of being a Cardiac Surgeon AND a Nuclear Physicist. Two schools of science that have little crossover and require decades of study.

The line is blurred on why over 250 years people lost the ability to learn multiple schools of magic. But according to ArenaNet, Much like over the course of a century we learned the earth was round. Tyria learned magic was best practiced as a solitary art.

You see what I mean though, some thieves are QQing, even though only ONE class is getting the counter.

“Everything needs atleast one counter” – Charak

Does any other class mechanic have a counter that outright disables the mechanic like Revealed does to Stealth?

Right. I didn’t think so. Therein lies the difference between soft-counters (like AoE’s vs pets) and hard-counters by the way. The latter should be avoided if at all possible if balance is the goal.

Well they could make it so it just makes the pet see through your stealth and chase you down, and if it manages to attack you then it reveals.

Then you have counterplay to Sick Em by dodging/avoiding/cc’ing pet.

That would be a more reasonable implementation of Sic Em than I imagine they’ll have in place next patch, but I still maintain my position that no class should have a hard-counter to another’s major class mechanics.

I don’t think this is as big an issue as it seems. namely because it’s only rangers, and requires the use of their pet.

As a warrior, there is absolutely nothing fun about fighting an invisible target. I have no opportunity to rest, where they’re popping in and out of combat like it’s nothing. And knowing how to make the best use out of cleaving, is my only protection. Sure go invisible, but you’re going to take damage if you come near me. But as far as me getting away, it probably won’t happen unless I get lucky and knock him off a cliff. Thank you Stomp!

I’d like a shout that reveals. Maybe not completly, but if I use it it’ll give some indication of where the target is. Flash of light, whisp of sound waves bouncing off them, blurred faded unselectable image. it wouldn’t completely cancel their stealth, but give me a way to defend myself and think about positioning. give it a long cooldown if you want, I only wanna use it once per fight anyway.

Fractals took WAY too long

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Genreninja.8516

Genreninja.8516

I wouldn’t mind adding new content/puzzle elements to the fractals as they grow.

For instance, in the Swamp, make the orbs hurt you, so you not only have to carry them across the swamp, you can’t do it alone, you have to throw it to hand it to a teammate.

Or the Asura + – charges. I love that! More creative fractal exclusive status effects wouldn’t be horrible.

And creating problems that need more pre-play preparation I don’t think would kill it either. Such as needing certain potions/items to make where lower tiers give ingredients, craft the potions/items at a station in the fractals, and those items becuase crucial to surviving the upper level tiers (i.e. curing new effects that might get added alongside agony.)

You lost me as soon as you defined success…

Success isn’t defined by doing a good job once, it’s the ability to keep doing a good job without fail

And still not quite the right way of phrasing the definition of success.

a little closer now:

Success is the ability to keep going and doing a good job despite failure.

Not sure whats going on

It’s slow at the best of times lately. Often if this happens, log out and back in and it should clear up. Or you may need to reboot the game completely. Logging out usually works for me though.

I’ve always exited completely. (Closing the launcher as well) and that’s always fixed the issue for me.

You get it from all the same places just in lower, slower quantities.

Events w/ boosters. Consumable Jugs (now giving 50% more than before). Participating in Fractals (bonus Karma given when playing levels below your own)

Events (20 Karma–378 Karma, based on event level)
Hearts (90 Karma–675 Karma, based on event level)

PS quest "level gap"

in Personal Story

Genreninja.8516

I just recently started playing the Personal Story again. But it’s on a character that already has a couple levels on her.

I think the Personal Story is a Story and way of identifying and relating with your character, not a dedicated leveling mechanism. It’s not meant to carry you to 80, so I don’t see them changing this soon. Heaven forbid we play an event or complete a heart or two while running between story checkpoints.

Enjoying Again!

in Personal Story

Posted by: Genreninja.8516

Genreninja.8516

So I played through the entirety of my Sylvari Warrior personal story way back near launch. I added several other characters to my family over the year but always neglected to do their personal stories. I’d done them so many times during the Beta Weekends and then knocking out the entirety of Kendova’s (my sylvari warrior) I kinda was meh about them. They were static all led to the same place.

However, after several months of not touching the personal stories. I decided to go back and start working on them on my Asuran Guardian. No cut scene skipping, no rushing, no help. Just me and Ahjiana living her life.

I have to say. I’ve forgotten how good the PS was. How fun and Saucy Zojja is, and how kitten I feel whipping Inquest tail. I’m sure once I complete the story on Ahjiana I’ll walk away and take a hiatus again. But it was just a reminder at the time effort and quality that went into the PS. Especially the first several parts of it.

My recommendation especially for newcomers and returning players: Don’t rush through it. Savor it and enjoy it. and focus on 1 character at a time, and at your leisure. You’ll get more out of it.

And a big difference, from the LS vs PS is watching your character speak… It’s a bit awkward to explain but I kinda forgot my characters had a voice. They feel just a tad bit more alive today, than they did before.

Tequatl Lore: ...what?

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: Genreninja.8516

Genreninja.8516

I don’t think they’re straying too far here. They’re implying Tequatl is “evolving”, which gives a sort of in-game explanation for the changes to the battle.

Someone also mentioned how in the PS there is scene that explains the “cycle” of the dragons. That they never die and never live. They only sleep and feed. The only motivations dragons ever have, is to feed. All other ulterior motives are dreamed up by their champions; And ultimately those goals always lead to the Dragon being able to feed.

There’s a Youtube out there that really digs into the Dragon cycle, AND how the Sylvari may actually be the minions of a Dragon that was corrupted/influenced by the Ventari Tablet. A theory I’m quite fond of.

I’ve had this happen before. I got random gold in the mail. I thought about reporting it, but instead messaged them back asking about it. Apparently my name was “Sahdi” and their friends name was “Sahde” and he misspelled. So I returned it.

Same thing happened with a bunch of cookies to another character of mine. I think it’s pretty common. I’d like to see them add the ability to “autofill” people who are in your friends list. Or have a dropdown with you rfriends in it so you can select them. Since mistakes like this are so easy to make and rely heavily on the persons honesty.

Guild Wars 2 lacks guild content

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

For all that’s lacking. Many of these issues are a matter of play style. Just like with the Scarlet event. Zergs are not required, if you don’t enjoy them. Don’t join them. My guild has about 10 people and we enjoy guild content without the massive zergs and work hard to earn our influence/etc. Its a rewarding experience.

To hell with those that enjoy the glorified chat channels we’re used to calling Guilds.

The content is what you make of it.

I think the goal here. Is to create a treadmill like experience, for those that enjoy it, without forcing it onto those that don’t. And that confuses people; especially those that aren’t part of the group getting the attention right now.

But we as a player base, aren’t used to Developers doing stuff like this. It’s a hit or miss, trial and error type process. Largely I think their direction is successful. But they do have some failures in their smaller efforts.

I’m confused though… “there is no point” I feel is an invalid, inaccurate, and misleading statement.

For some, there may be no point to the armor. A good example is the OP who feels content is needed to make it purposeful. But to some, to many, the simple fact thakittens better, is good enough.

The reason it’s ugly is already made clear and shouldn’t be confusing: It makes legendaries and skins more valuable. and again, gives them purpose.

It’s unfortunate some people feel underwhelmed. But I think its more due to a miss conception of the bigger picture.

How GW1 Devs would've designed end-game gear

I’d much rather a game I “play” despite it’s flaws. I don’t understand paying a subscription for a game you’re not even going to play.

I’ve started the push for Ascended. Bought my amulet the other day. working towards my rings. And collecting the supplies necessary to craft my weapon. I.. unlike most it seems.. am enjoying myself.

Notice though. There are several reasons for this. 1) They are sticking with their philosophy that there will never be content you NEED highest tier gear for. 2) The jump from Exotic > Ascended is maybe half a tier. The jump from Fine > Mastercraft and Rare > Exotic are MUCH bigger leaps (almost 200 dmg on some weapons) where the jump from Exotic > Ascended is about 50 damage on average. I’m certain Armor will follow the same rule. They offer a relatively small boost for a whole new “tier” their main perk is the infusion slots.

The reward for winning definitely needs to be greater than the reward for improving. Otherwise, you’ll begin to see the “troll” emerge that dooms their server so they may fall, and rise to the top again.

Granted this would be more difficult than in most ranked systems (i.e. a Moba style game) where the player can intentionally perform bad, in order to fall to ranks where they are far more skilled. Only to rise up again. If the rewards for improvement are too high, you could see larger more impactful guilds pull themselves out to fall, and put themselves back to rise.

Hate to say it, but I think they need to replace their testers. Their current ones have missed glaring issues is most every update that are obvious to everyone except them for some reason. They are either not doing their job, not capable of doing the job, or choose to not do the job all of which warrant replacement.

It has very little to do with testers. Speaking as a tester (Not for ANet) Testers generally find 100s of more issues than actually get fixed. It is a Testers job only to identify them, not to determine what does and does not get fixed. That decision is left to the Devs. On the projects I work on, we have deadlines that have to be met. And we have more issues than you can imagine that we identify and the developers deem “Known Shippable” something they know is broken, but they don’t have the time/budget/resources to fix. So lets not hate on testers <3

Anyone wanting to make some g, probably should start harvesting. Because once that update hits, people will be crafting like crazy, and not just going from T6 > T7 but those who lagged behind and never got to 400, new players, and those with alts they want to level crafting on.

So, stockpile and put it on the market, because you know people are going to be buy the crap out of some mats.

It’d also be adventageous to spend the beginning of the update harvesting and selling mats before working on your own. Since the demand will taper off rather quickly.

Wouldn’t it be cool, If you could actually retire a character. Maybe have something in the Hall of Monuments, and building a “Legacy”. Retire the character and it’s statue is added to a collection in the HoM, non-soulbound things dumped into a chest, Money is already account wide so no problem there. But maybe have its personal accomplishments (bring lvl 80, having completed the storyline, having professions at the cap) add to your account wide bonuses. 1% Crafting Exp boost for having 2 maxed out professions, 1% exp for having story completed, 1% magic find for map completion, etc. And then once retired it frees up the character slot.

I think that’s a nifty idea.

A good example: I never eat McDonalds, I’m not a fan of fast food in general. But when the Monopoly game is going, I pick up a soda, or some fries or whatever because me and my coworkers get excited about stupid competitions like that. We pool our pieces and try to win. But that doesn’t say “There is an obvious problem with McDonalds because the only reason I’ll eat there is when Monopoly is running.” Yes, it says I need extra motivation, I don’t care for the product but they occasionally offer something I want. but it doesn’t directly imply anything about the food itself. McDonalds is a multi-billion dollar juggernaut of success.

Lets make your example more in line with the game.

Lets say you love McDonalds. You eat there a few times a week and have many favorite things on the menu. Then over time, they start telling you they’re going to remove the different combo choices. Then they take away all cashiers except one and everyone ordering must gang up on that one cashier and shout their orders all at the same time and he will throw food out randomly and whatever you get is what you eat.
You try to do your own thing and go to the other counter to try to order. Noone can help you because everyone is rushing the one cashier. So you get smart and leave and go thru the drive thru. Yay, your order goes through. But whats this? The drive-thru attendant can only give you one fry per hour.
So…do you keep going back to McDonalds and loving it like you once did? Or do you just go at Monopoly time?

Your allusion escapes me…

I’m not saying GW2 is perfect. And I’m not saying the OP is wrong. I’m only saying the success of SAB doesn’t directly imply a failure of the rest of GW2. It simply doesn’t.

But alas, its not but an opinion I have about another posters opinion.

Oh, so that’s all Guild Wars 2 is then? Mini-games, activities, and two-week content? That’s pretty poor content for a game that calls itself an mmorpg. If they like a miniscule part of the game, that does not mean they like Guild Wars 2. I like the guns in Black Ops 2, does that mean I like it? Heck no.

Why does it have to be all or nothing though? If a person eats a DiAngelo’s because they love the Calzones, but they hate the pasta that’s also included on the menu. Does that mean DiAngelo’s sucks?

I think this is an inaccurate inquisitive leap. So SFB is the funnest event they’ve had so far? That doesn’t mean people would rather stop playing GW2 to go play SFB. I certainly wouldn’t leave GW2 to go play it if they detached it and sold it on Steam for $5. I might buy it, I might play it, but it certainly wouldn’t drive me away from playing GW2 on the regular.

You made a leap in what you assumed the OP meant. It doesnt mean I would stop playing Gw2 and play SAB exclusively if it were its own game…it does mean I have stopped playing GW2 regularly in favor of other games and am returning only for SAB.
Its not a good sign that some people are only returning temporarily to play in SAB than the actual GW2 game itself, is more of what was meant I believe.

I don’t really disagree, but again I don’t think it says anything directly about the rest of the game. GW2 can’t be like SAB for a variety of reasons. It’s unreasonable to say “SAB is fun, I only came back to play it” actually says something about the rest of GW2. So the rest of GW2 isn’t for everybody, but SAB is a) Temporary b) Crazy fun and c) has nothing to little to do with GW2, so it’s not unreasonable for it to appeal to a whole new set of people, and that set of people just happens to include people who don’t care for the rest of the game.

A good example: I never eat McDonalds, I’m not a fan of fast food in general. But when the Monopoly game is going, I pick up a soda, or some fries or whatever because me and my coworkers get excited about stupid competitions like that. We pool our pieces and try to win. That way, from a mechanics standpoint it wouldn’t have to alter how the weapons adjust their damages etc. and since their already creating new sigils/infusions/etc it’d be easier to make something new, in an ever changing system than to change a static system? Thoughts?

I think the overuse of the term “grind” is part of the problem. There is a difference between “grind” and “work” there is a difference between “farm” and “grind”. And I think it would help us as a whole to define them and understand them as a community.

Back when I first entered the great MMO world, I began in FFXI. And it left a mark on me. Because back in the day, Artifact Armor, the classic armor sets that were powerful and iconic were not easily obtained. You had to farm rare spawns for even rarer drops, and travel to the dark corners of the continent to complete quests for NPC Crafters to make the pieces for you. Getting your full set of AF armor was an accomplishment, and usually took several people several weeks to complete for just 1 persons set.

I feel thats what the legendary items should be and stay. And I think they should move closer to becoming that than they currently are. The OP refered to it as a quest and I like that. I think these coveted items with 1000g+ price tags should require long hours of hunting, scavenging, and traveling to complete. That, I don’t consider a grind.

((Granted I think few people log into a game to “work”, but the more effort you put in, the greater the experience completing it becomes))

The Halloween Event, I LOVED! I got every achievement, made sure I got every reward. And spent ungodly # of hours mastering that stupid Tower…

Since, every event has seemed lackluster in comparison. I haven’t fully completed a set of achievements for them. Until now.

Something about this event has me hooked again. I’m on every day for a few hours I’ve already completed the Jubilee Achievements, almost done with the Clockwork Achievements and I’m having a blast!

Kudos ANet! It’s been a blast celebrating 1 Year with you!

+1 this idea. I’d love to see another layer of weapons skills I can unlock for my weapons to add some more variety.

Call it kitten, but I base much of the credibility of what I read around other posters performance on the Forums…

I’m consistently wishing I could see my post count, my plus 1 count, and that same information on others. It adds to the sense of community when people are able to have ways of establishing themselves and building a reputation as a respectable source. And seeing that credibility on others. Granted someone can have a 100+ posts and it be mostly trolling, but I wouldn’t be checking the post count of a troll I’d check the post count of someone trying to get a point across.

I miss forum statistics, profile pictures, post counts, and all the rest.

Where is it?

You didn’t have to grind 500+ for skills in gw1. It usually only took around 10min to capture an elite

I read what you say, but I don’t think I understand your point…

Also, no one’s saying it’s elite skill needs to be more powerful than any of the other elite skills. The ghost wolf is a skill that not everyone has access to, but yet it doesn’t give an unfair advantage.. Everyone has a racial elite skill that none of the other races have access to and those are balanced. I think Anet would be capable of creating a legendary skill for legendary weapons would add variety without giving anyone and unfair advantage.
