Or, well, more effective is actually scouting the zerg early as they appear from their own spawn/part of the map and having someone tail them – most zergs don’t exactly look behind/to the side of themselves often after all. That way, you don’t even need stationary scouts unless you’re particularly worried about small roaming groups.

With conversions in mind, I’ve probably spent a little under what a subscription would’ve been on gems for items from the store. I actually prefer doing that a bit to support a game I enjoy than saying “it’s fine, I’ll just use gold”. Would I pay a subscription though? Nope, not a chance. It’s honestly the principle of it, especially having paid the retail price for the game to begin with. ANet seem to have enough tricks and ideas up their sleeves on items for the gem store though, that cash flow probably isn’t going to be a problem any time soon. Can you imagine how much they make simply off of the basic things that are going to see fairly flat numbers in terms of usage over the coming years like name changes and makeover kits?

I’ve long-since learned not to get up in arms over our lack of coverage during EU – if anyone from SEA was still up feeling like they needed to stay up and help, I’d tell them to get their kitten to bed already. You just have to do the best you can with what you’ve got and leave it at that.

If it’s any comfort to you guys, 90-95% of the folks who end up in EB in a week are militia. The only time you’ll really see organised guild groups from us in there are when they really need the extra hands. We do know and accept that as far as EB goes, if we do well, it’s usually because of extremely competent commanding and management of militia and/or sheer numbers.

Yeah, sometimes you find yourself yelling push so much that folks could probably mistake you for a midwife.

I tend to run a tanky (although not extremely tanky) Guardian. Generally the indications of success are 1) whether I can make it to the back of the enemy group whilst still swinging (probably only 1 time out of 20 or 30, this might be a no) and 2) whether I calculated how willing the militia were to follow suit and just roll over everything in their path, despite how daunting it looked (ah… not always, but they’re usually very good). It isn’t particularly good for morale to be seen going down, but honestly, in some circumstances it is necessary and isn’t something you should really fear.

I am in no way saying the new Reset time is perfect or ideal for people on the East Coast, but at least you can be there right at Reset for an hour or two – an option West Coast players simply don’t have at all with a 5pm PT Reset.

As a result though, they are unable to play for nearly as long as players in Pacific. This is not quibbling over a short amount of time – east coast players who might only play ’til midnight or 1am have most of their evening wasted waiting around for reset, then can only play for two or three hours. Even an extra hour earlier (6pm Pacific) would make a significant difference to them.

If not being on immediately at reset were genuinely that much more of a problem, compared to being able to play for the maximum time possible, don’t you think that the Oceanic players would’ve been up in arms for the past months?

Heck, call it 5.30-6pm Pacific even and you’re still talking a much fuller evening of WvW for all concerned than 7pm would be. I just think 5pm would maximise the amount of time available for everyone to play on a Friday night.

I do also have to ask why the new NA time was set to later than the old NA times and query the EU reset time full stop. Yes, I know the 22:00 UTC reset was felt too early for the NA group, but this didn’t actually take away from actual play-time after reset – NA players still had a full evening’s play ahead of them when they got back home, EU players could play for at least a couple of hours before they had to call it a night and the Oceanics/SEA players would still have a full day ahead of them when they woke up that morning.

Now, with these new times (with the assumption that this is meant for standard, as opposed to DST), NA is as follows:
Players in Eastern/Central are going in at 9pm or 10pm. For those who have work/other commitments/don’t normally stay up all night, you might have a couple of hours of play ahead of you, down from the full evening you had when it was starting at 7/8pm.
Players in Pacific are going in at 7pm. Not bad, I doubt you’ll hear many complaints from them.
Players from EU are going in from anywhere from 3am (UK-only) to 6am. This essentially means that Friday night reset does not actually exist for EU players unless they’re going to stay up all night/get up rather early in the morning for it.
Players from Oceanic/SEA timezones are going to be in closer to actual reset, but it hasn’t sounded like most of them felt hard done by being in a couple of hours later.

Overall, it’s good news for folks in PDT, indifferent news for Oceanics/SEA and pretty kitten awful for east coast/EU.

From the EU perspective, I don’t really feel the need to explain how awful it is for NA players or otherwise when I can just break this down with people from EU anyway:
Players from the UK, Portugal and Iceland are going in at 20:00. It’s later than I think most of them would enjoy, but it’s still a good few hours.
Players from other western EU countries are heading in at 21:00.
Players from eastern EU countries are heading in at 22:00 or 23:00.
For both of these examples, I’ll highlight my earlier comments about this actually being nothing like what many would’ve hoped to be a full evening of WvW. It’s not really taking it away from them, as EU players have never had it so good, but it’s still far from ideal.

My honest recommendations? Both should be starting at about 5pm or 5.30pm for the earliest “affected” timezone. That would be, say, 5pm for Pacific, which would mean that more eastern NA timezones would also have a full evening of play and not entirely disable EU players from participating with their guilds whatsoever. Similarly, 5pm for the UK would give everyone concerned a very full evening of play.

I realise ANet are obviously concerned that everyone should be able to participate in WvW and accordingly have been trying to juggle things around to make it better. I can respect that, but I think they still need a slight tweaking even now to make them as best as possible for the greatest number of people.

No, we can’t control who decides to transfer in/out and if someone really likes our community, I don’t necessarily think we should stand in the way of that. But I honestly think we would be foolish and neglectful as a world to say, particularly to actual guilds, that we’d be interested in taking on anyone with no limits. I don’t think anyone wants to trade one unbalanced tier for unbalancing another.

It’s something that it honestly seems like no world has actually bothered to consider so far, but really, when you’re talking about engineering a fun match, it’s vital for it to be balanced.

Honestly, I’ve got problems with this post. The first and foremost is that we do not want random transfers in. Yes, it’s being considered that we are most likely going up to T3 and that it might be sensible to bring in a little extra manpower to make sure it’s an even match if that happens, but that’s not “hey, whoever you are, come join us!”. If we are going up and if anyone’s interested in a different world, yes, we’re quite happy to talk about it, but we don’t want folks who aren’t going to mesh well with the existing community – for both their and our sakes – and we would not want to over-recruit/recruit in the wrong timezones, end up overshooting the mark and unbalancing T3.

I also don’t really think it’s appropriate to mention recruiting to other worlds that we’re currently fighting against, particularly when, if we are going to move up to T3, that’s not going to be for at least another week or so.

been meaning to keep an eye on this tier and see how sos is doing after swapping places with mags. to be honest mags is putting up a pretty darn good fight since joining our tier, is in 2nd place right now. but if you join sos, and they move up a tier, you will be faced with the same frustration with db’s oceanic. trust me. unless something has changed and they got like 2 or 3 oceanic guilds and their na is better than yak’s now. yaks and mags have been going toe to toe in na coverage in tier 3.

The more likely line-up for T3, if/when we move up would actually be KN/Mag/SoS. DB is about as close to T2 as we are T3 – for YB to lose a few more points to allow us into the tier, DB would almost certainly end up moving up. I don’t know Maguuma’s stats off of the top of my head, but with WM on a break in Kaineng, we probably would be at least evens for Oceanics, although probably slightly weaker for SEA.

I honestly wouldn’t blame them if they transferred. I hope they don’t but I’d have a hard time logging in every day if I were in their shoes.

If we’re going to move up, your Oceanics are best off staying where they are. It’d be more fun and balanced for them against YB and a world that is already strong in one timezone doesn’t have much rational demand for more coverage there.

There is a 3rd option. I just think you wouldn’t like the sound of it. Send some SoS oceanics over to SBI and possibly CD to balance this tier out.

We don’t have WvW guilds to give to anyone, even if we wanted to, and no PvX guild in their right mind would want to move from a world with such a large and vibrant non-WvW population – especially when talking about Oceanics, given the much smaller populations on other worlds during that time.

On the bright side of it all, another week or two of this, with T3 how it is too, you folks will probably have Yak’s back to deal with and we’ll be up against Maguuma and DB or KN.

If you’re set on T1 and want a stable world, I’d suggest picking between JQ and SoR, depending on how much of a challenge you enjoy.

Honestly though, if you’re concerned about queue times, I’d give T1 a very wide berth. 30 minutes can be nothing during primetimes. You really only need to look at a few different topics with people complaining about the odd 2-3 hour queue or longer for WvW to know that if you aren’t particularly queue-tolerant, T1 probably isn’t for you.

My personal opinion is also that WvW outside of T1 is definitely a far more enjoyable experience. There are too many people obsessed with winning or just happy to be huge trolls. In all honesty, I’d stick it out with FA for a few more weeks and see how it goes.

I dont know the current figures for GW2, but GW had a larger EU playerbase than a NA one.
So assuming thats continued, or at least that the entire EU playerbase (and to some extent Russian) is larger than the west coast NA playerbase, you must surely agree this is a postitive move.

I’m pretty certain is benefits more people than it harms.

Your logic is quite correct. I would also guess that whether it impacts them personally or not, most players – NA or otherwise – will just shrug off the change as a non-event. There is sadly a small minority of players who will complain vociferously about it being the worst thing ever as if the minor inconvenience they will face for perhaps a few weeks really outweighs the massive inconvenience that many more have faced over the course of months – I mean, really, going into WvW an hour or two after reset (which most of the Aussies and Kiwis have been doing all along) compared to reset being the middle of the night. I don’t know if it’s entirely fair to draw parallels between this and the complaints about non-NA being on NA worlds and the evils of night-capping, but how the arguments are being put forward seems strangely familiar.

Sadly though, it seems like a lot of the time, who shouts loudest wins. After thread after thread about the situation in NA T8, a temporary fix gets pushed through for that. Meanwhile, the less complained-about EU T9 – a more unbalanced match than NA T8 could’ve ever hoped to be – is still languishing Now, to sate all of those screaming and shouting about the terrible injustice of moving the reset time, ANet will probably end up pulling people off of the ratings problem. A problem, which if fixed would likely result in alleviating the more significant discomfort of more players (when factoring in both those too strong and too weak) than those who would truly find inconvenience in the time change. Honestly, I would love to see ANet refuse to bow to flavour of the week pressure and just set a clear order of projects, that they would not deviate from unless something genuinely serious came up.

Selfish and ignorant post. How is it anyone’s fault that the game can’t support the amount of people that want to play it? We have three hour queue times on reset night. I am curious as to how you are going to spin that as being ‘my fault’. Do you propose I transfer off the server and community I have invested time and effort into, leaving behind friends, guild mates, etc. ? Absolute nonsense.

(2) Again with the nonsense about it being ‘kinda your fault’ that there are queues. There were no queues on my server until we climbed the ranks. It is not my ‘fault’ that ANET didn’t shut off free transfers for so long and allowed people to easily transfer in. You propose I leave behind friends, guild members, and community ….stupid.

It’s either your guild’s (or your own if you decided to move on your own) fault for bandwagoning or your world’s fault for bring in bandwagoners. I propose nothing other than ceasing to complain about a situation you or your world created. Anything else would be selfish – you can’t have your cake and eat it. No world has the right to accept transfer guilds left, right and center and then complain about having queues to actually play.

Or are you going to claim that your world not only never recruited a single guild to it, but in fact fiercely resisted transfer guilds in? If so, please pull the other one – it’s got bells on.

First off, this is the best compromise you’re going to get right now. Whether or not they can separate it in the long-term, this is the best short-term solution. For those of you wondering why not Saturday, you also need to remember that reset isn’t a completely automated process. Someone has to be there and ANet are unlikely to want to pull in members of their WvW team on a Saturday just to get the reset done. Honestly, out of the options available, this is the best solution at this time.

I would also like to address the folks saying that it’s terrible for them as an NA player. For those of you who are concerned about not being on at reset – I wouldn’t worry. Plenty of people are going to be in the same boat and the fullest fighting will only start as NA gets into its primetime. For those of you who say that this will mean that you cannot play WvW at reset because queues will now prevent you from getting on… that’s kinda your own fault. ANet gave you months to settle on a world that you wouldn’t have that issue on and for worlds to realise that stacking themselves wasn’t a good idea.

Playing some sPvP and finding what works well for you will train you well for low-end roaming in WvW. You will need to tweak your build more though to be properly useful in larger groups in WvW though.

On a Guardian, for example, you’re probably going to want to pull something like a gsword and then scepter/your preferred off-hand for sPvP (assuming you don’t just try to jump into a bunker build). This, along with a build and traits will serve you well in low-end WvW, but you’re probably going to have to migrate at least over to hammer if you start partnering up with larger groups.

I would also, of course, recommend working with your own world – most worlds have their own forum and VOIP server for WvW, where you can coordinate better with people and will be able to find out some good strategies for various classes.

Of course, if that’s not available, try hopping over to the Guardian forum to get some ideas or, if you’d prefer, drop me a PM and I can go over some of the more usual basic builds to try out and build from.

I am enjoying the match and IMHO, the PPT spread can be explained as follows;

This is pretty much the thing. During NA (and to an extent, EU, given that none of us have a huge EU presence), the three worlds are largely well-matched. Heck, SoS has come into reset for the last two weeks and has been behind for the first few hours, during NA. However, especially with the departure of CD Oceanic/SEA guilds to TC, there’s less of a response to after NA dies down. Thus, the scores are what they are, but if I were CD or SBI, I would not feel hard done by my own performance.

Hey [Top] and [Top] commander: [FEAR] and friends are leaving the south camp on SoS BL, you guys can have it now. =)

Bah, I miss out on a night of WvW and I miss out on sitting bags! Kidding anyway, but there are far more defensible camps. I can’t exactly blame the [ToP] guys and gals though – they’re not exactly huge and a bunch of them were levelling alts last time I checked.

The big difference (that we also found coming down through T2 and T3) is that if your coverage ends up being pretty bad in certain areas, you find it much harder to hold on to upgraded structures. Eventually people just stop trying to upgrade everything that they really should and it gets limited to your third of EB and the top half of your own borderlands. :/

I’ve genuinely had a lot of fun fighting CD so far this week. I hope this isn’t going to drastically affect your performance, but if it does, that it isn’t a protracted drop to T5.

From what I understand/have heard, no-one saw the towers being flipped – no swords came up and it was a quiet time of day (for a BL we had basically on lockdown) so the first scout arrived a minute or two afterwards. Whilst conceivably a single ram might’ve been destroyed by the guards whilst the lord was being attacked, they were flipped so closely together with no visible siege that it was somewhat unlikely that it had been done in a legitimate manner.

Thursday night at 10 pm EST this large group of multiple guilds (majority of the zerg being Leet) used hack to get into Mendes durios and bravos without a single door or wall being knocked down. Only managed to get screen shot of the one mesmer hacking up onto a wall to drop a portal (no not a mesmer who hung arounf after a take). They took those 3 towers in under 5 minutes. I did send the one screen shot to Anet but without name it really does not mean anything . Considering there were other guilds mixed into the hacking zerg, you could probably find out at your end who is doing it

I will query it, but I will again caution that in any situation where there are allegations of hacking, if a guild either 1) can’t identify the member or 2) won’t identify the member, any given world doesn’t have the power to do anything other than condemn such actions – not that any world can do much more than that either way.. It is usually hazardous to even throw anything at a particular guild without something concrete after the trouble T1 has highlighted with people spoofing guild names and tags to intentionally cause trouble.
