It’s directly answering the question. Give it up and admit it. You lost the argument. You’re so quick to jump on what I say, you can’t even admit I’m on topic when clearly I am.
Lol stop acting like a child, it isn’t about ‘winning’ an argument.
I love GW2 except for its heavy lack of content, it is a big problem for me and many others. WvW, Spvp, even Pve has been largely ignored for a very long time.
LS updates are hour long stories with a grind attached to them, forget about gem shop… well they even got that part wrong, there is hardly anything cool to buy in there.
In comparison to Rifts gem shop it blows GW2’s out of the water and their economy is much better too. (offtopic I guess)
Also some misinformation about WoW and its gear.. pretty much every MMO I know of has a wardrobe system now, and you can transmog any gear you get to look how you want so it’s not just throw away and forget.
In the expansion gear is even easier to manage how it changes stats when you swap roles, just like Rift.
As far as graphics go, yea it’s totally depends on your taste but WoD looks absolutely gorgeous, go look at some screenshots. MoP looked amazing too, it gets better every expansion and we just got entirely new models.
GW2 is becoming more and more the grindiest MMO on the market IMO with the least content. Even Rift (F2P completely) has just released an expansion!!!
Or play the game for it’s content.
What content?
Do mobs drop loot in this other MMO? It’d be nice to have that for a change.
They do! And you do not have to merchant or salvage a bunch of garbage 24/7!
That’s my opinion.
100% irrelevant, I don’t see your point considering the discussion at hand about how much WoW owns GW2 in content.
I think you should stop correcting people for no reason except that you disagree with what they have to say. This is a line from the OP.
“Does Anet want to compete or not?”
My post was DIRECTLY on topic with that. I said exactly how Anet is going to compete. you may not agree, and you may not like what I have to say, but it’s for more no topic than you telling me I’m off topic.
Maybe you should have quoted the correct person, the question was “how can they compete with that”.
You then go on to say irrelevant things like people hate WoW and the subscription and how ANet is going to compete by doing absolutely nothing (lmao what?)
That’s my opinion.
100% irrelevant, I don’t see your point considering the discussion at hand about WoW expansion vs GW2 content
But we all know ANet cannot reveal any information because they have the worst system in the world “lol kitten kitten we can’t talk about it, cannot reveal our future plans sorry”
Most useless PR ever, it is so bad that they had to draw out a tiny feature patch, something that in other MMOs is just called a regular patch, over 2 whole weeks or w/e it was.
I honestly laughed. That is hilarious. Who the hell hypes over a regular patch for 2 weeks… oh right, ANet
(edited by Gimp.9460)
Doesn’t matter.
You have to realize that NCSoft has the money and they’re limiting Anet with resources. Look at Aion. They already announced 4.8 update with whole new content, maps, skills, gear, weapons, instances etc.
GW2 is bringing a really huge profit and yet so far I can only see that NCSoft is crippling Anet regarding further development of Gw2, and load everything into Aion.
Somehow it’s like the same policy with Blizzard and their WoW.
Latest cancelation of “Titan” project may ring a bell.
Blizz is not restricted by anything, they do what they want. They have openly stated that they have full control over their game. Titan did not fit their vision and some of the design went into the newly announced Overwatch.
They are lucky enough to have the money to cancel a project if they are not satisfied with it.. honestly this is 1 of maybe 3 or 4 times Blizz has cancelled a project like that. Remember Starcraft:Ghosts?
I don’t get it, ANet had so much freedom in GW1 but all of the sudden NCSoft doesn’t let them do anything?
Garrisons! Endgame! Pvp! Oh my
Edit:
Another call on ANets crap. Look at how barren GW2 is after over 2 years, then look at WoW xpac. Compare the content that took Blizz 2 years to develop we are getting in WoD and the content that GW2 currently has (90% was temporary). Tons of new zones, new pvp area’s, new mounts, pets, titles, raids, garrisons, spells, etc etc so much for expansions worth of content ANet… 2 tiny zones does not = an xpac fyi and I’ve never seen a temporary expansion before.

Or, you know, you could actually try playing this (quite profitable) map properly and contributing to its success rather than attempting to ruin it again.
Some of us were playing the map. I was on several where they defended all 4 forts, got defense up to level 4, and still farmed the kitten chests. But that obviously wasn’t “ok” with people.
You were the outlier that wasn’t the target here. Your reply sounds more like a victim mentality than anything.
Fact of the matter is that most chest farmers weren’t helping. They stayed at Amber -scaling it up, while the rest of the map was defended and upgraded by an all-too-scarce group of players. That’s what this quick fix targeted and that’s what I’d hope would be avoided in the future of this map.
5 clicks. 5 clicks is what it takes to open the LFG tool, join a party and taxi to a map that is being played properly.
The joke is on you.
Too confusing, need NPE version pls
Always hoped for a Z axis slider for our camera’s view.
Sliders are too confusing so ANet will make the correct adjustments, they know what’s best for you
I mean, even if you could have a pop-up in game saying that such-and-such won a tournament, similar to how Hall of Heroes is broadcasted in GW1, that would be great.
That would make sense if pvp was taken seriously in GW2
I genuinely cannot tell if this is a troll thread. Personally, I’d like to see people on rank farm servers banned in general.
Why? Rank doesn’t mean kitten
It is really sad that the fairy tale/lie about the uselessness of CDIs always comes back. There are so many improvements that were inspired by different CDIs.
- wardrobe
- account-bound ascended weapons
- commander tags
- LW journal
- grail quests for traits
- guild-driven worldevents
- new trick
- WvW-like map
- stepwise opened map
and much more…
All that stuff was mentioned/begged for/cried about for eons before CDI was even thought of.
and does Anet really need a CDI for that stuff anyhow? In my day it was called feedback, didn’t need a CDI if you just listen to your community and play the game. I still find it funny how the September feature pack update was spread out over two months of marketing hype. In other games it would have been just called….patch notes.
lol
ye ANet is pretty funny
Chris,
I want to ask you something. Will Defiance be redesigned? Is there any plan for it at all?Because right now it is removing the need of any CC in the fights. If raids come will interrupts, stuns, fear become an actual mechanic? Will they be more useful from now?
All I can say on this is we have been talking about it internally and trying to come up with different solutions that make CC valuable without allowing players to “stun lock” creatures (which would be a very real problem if we did not have Defiance). I can’t say any more on that at this time, so here’s a better question for you:
If we removed Defiance, how would you propose a replacement that makes CC (interrupts, stuns, fears etc) valuable without creating a situation that allows players to CC a creature to death.
If mobs can do it to players, it’s only fair.
The benefit is you will have years and years of ‘end game’ aka grinding your kitten off indefinitely for full ascended sets.

If we’re taking pages from WoW can we get some decent story, raids, battlegrounds, arena, mounts, a decent trinity, fishing, pet battles, /follow command, pve rotations consisting of more than 1 or 2 buttons, RaF, no DR, and some honesty or decency from the developers?
Blizz is on another level than ANet, at least they straight up ask for 15 a month rather than nickle and dime gem shop. Blizz: “Hey, look, we’re working on an expansion. Sorry you have to repeat the same raid for a year. WoD is gonna be great!” along with all the information you could possibly ask about.
ANet: we uhh… (??? they don’t talk) here’s another hour of LS and a decent farm that we haven’t nerfed in the first 12 hours (WOAH!)
Your ‘policy’ to not inform your players of what is happening is about as smart as a rock and is going to make your game go the way of the dodo.
incoming deleted post in 5…4…..3….
No no no, don’t make ascended more accessible. This will reduce the illusion of progression IE vertical grind, you know.. the stuff that wasn’t supposed to be in grind wars 2.
More grind! More time gates! yeehawwwww
Oh and more crafting, it’s SO fun!!!! woooooewheoehwoehwew
Its a free to play game. They don’t have an income as high or as stable as WoW have (and even WoW make you pay most of the new stuff with expansion).
A lot of little things were changed since the beginning of the game. And a lot of these make a lot of difference. But these take time with a limited budget. Even worst, not everybody want the same thing. Some of the changes they did was nothing for me, but a big deal for other. So maybe Anet didn’t do the 2 or 3 things that you wanted the most, but that doesn’t mean that they didn’t do other stuff that other people wanted the most.
For me, i’m still waiting for the new Legendaries, precusors crafting and SAB. But a lot of people that I know, don’t really care about that. Hell, some people would hate if Anet wasted time on a new SAB world.
Did Anet did the best on some issues? Not really. New Legendaries and precursors crafting was suppose to be in the game a year ago according to Anet.
Did Anet should pay more people to get an paid expansion out? Maybe. I know I would pay for that and would love all the content that would come out of it.But I think the CDI was a good idea. We already see some of the stuff that was talked about. But between talked about a issue on a forum and the implementation in the game, there will be a long long time. Because of reality and money.
I don’t really know if budget is to blame though. I mean something is holding them back from investing time in other parts of the game. My personal opinion is that their main focus is living story only(open world maps + personal story instance like content). We know that part of the game gets a lot of development. But other parts like fractals/dungeons don’t.
There are also guild missions but those were only expanded on a small bit. They haven’t been touched in ages. I guess thats why Im skeptical of “guild raiding”. It sounds cool but I feel that it will only be another section of content abandoned.
If ANet is consistent in anything it’s removing/abandoning things instead of supporting or fixing. GW1 and everything else.
CDI is just something to keep players silent or rather confined until 3 years down the line they may add some significant content.
If the events were rewarding to complete then maybe it wouldn’t be an issue.
Honestly it has been 2+ years and tons of suggestions to make completed events more rewarding and they make these roundabout ways to get loot like this chest farming instead.
Is it really that hard to give chest rewards or more raw coin from an event completion? Serious question! One day I would like to see people running trains to complete actual events because they are rewarding, not failing them because we are ‘forced’ (I use that term loosely) to resort to silly unintended(?) methods of farming.
Champ bags from events complete instead of from the champs maybe. I’m sure it would be some work to evaluate how much bags you should get from every single vent in Tyria but imagine people actually playing the game as it was intended … owahhowhaowha crazy thought.
I’m sure some things would need to be made into events as well but eh it would be so much kewler to join a map and just see people running events and being aptly rewarded.
If ANet really expects people to legit click the insane amount of 250 stack items we need to open/activate then quite frankly they must be high on some good stuff.
Agree’d EotM should be disabled unless you are in queue for WvW at the very least.
I can’t even play WvW on my server, thx ANet you guys are truly a godsend
I wouldn’t even say PvE players are their main focus. Think about it, at this point in GW1’s life we already had Factions, Nightfall, and EotN. That is new professions, skills, dungeons, friggin continents to explore. What have we gotten so far in this game? A couple of new maps and a bunch of temporary grindfests.
I think the real target audience are casuals players that get hooked on garbage like farmville and candy crush.
So true /cry
None of the WvW titles are to be taken seriously.
Thanks Anet for this 11% cooldown buff venom’s got.
That’ll surely fix the issue of venom’s being underpowered due to their interaction with venomous aura, and all the other problems that come with requiring 5 traits and a bar full of venoms with no stunbreaks or condi cleanses to be useful.
But..but.. 5 seconds
notconquest/10
lel
The core is 100% there and there is a huge amount of opportunity here to make really unique forms of raiding.
I’m curious why it took you guys more than 2 years to realize this.
I can list some issues preventing the possibility of me taking GW2 pve seriously, specifically raids.
Defiant, spamming a bunch of rupts only to have someone passively trigger the 9000 defiant stacks again is probably the worst system I’ve ever seen when it comes to boss interrupts in MMO, no offense.
Say a boss has uninterruptable attacks which can be avoided in other ways like spreading out away from players or vice versa, getting behind or to the side, simply power healing through it or attrition healing and then there is attacks you can interrupt or dodge. A boss fight should cycle all of these imo.
GW2 is king of 1shots and no one enjoys those. Being punished for being hit by an attack is all fine and dandy but let’s not slap people in the face for it. This is augmented by GW2’s particle effects. I have no idea how anyone is expected to melee one of the many bosses you can’t see attacking just to get instagibbed. Particle effects need to be addressed, it is a serious issue.
Support, healing, ranged, tank, DPS roles should all be encouraged not just DPS. This zerker zerg+ball up mentality needs to go. To get any benefit from allies you need to be right next to them.
Aggro is impossible to control but this was manageable in GW1 by body blocking, something that doesn’t work in GW2.
In 2019 when you guys release your first instanced raid I hope it’s not just going to be a typical 5man dungeon experience and again I must emphasize the issue of particle effects rendering any content in the future essentially a joke unless it is fixed with a particle slider or an option to only see your own effects like Rift has.
Alternatively you could add cast bars and stop pretending like GW2 is a “watch attack then dodge” type of game because that is currently impossible in most fights with the effects and most of my evades are random or build into attacks.
PS: I run as zerker thief in all content. My strategy for pve is essentially pressing 1, 3, or 5 every once in a while with the odd twitch dodge thrown in to prevent my instadeath.
Here’s to hoping GW2 one day gets decent pve (or pvp for that matter)…
I skipped this entirely because most minigames in GW2 are terrible, the only one I consider half decent is keg brawl but I never play that anymore either cuz minigames are on rotation now and I never even check to see what it is anymore.
Actually I would say the book more or less does the opposite, since it basically says that the Tengu have decided to flee
Wait, if I remember right it told the story on how they fled Cantha, build their Dominion of Wind against Zaithans hordes and are now sending out notes to all other Tengus that there is still hope and that they will fly again. Not flee.
They are bird-people. They want to spread their wings.
Pants would be 2 confusing 4 new players
WoW has scaled raids now, and Rift has scaled events / raid events much better than GW2s.
Same thing with dungeon paths… the achievement panel is useless sometimes
Anything that isn’t standing still and spamming 1 is too confusing.
RNG is the GW2 endgame, and you will never win it
You know how it goes, if there is outcry from the community that we DON’T want something, we get it!
Most MMOs have official RP servers with RP rules (like names can’t be yoloswaglegolas etc.)… but not GW2
GW1 definitely meets the MMO criteria… sorry I don’t bother with semantics. Who really cares what it was though, definitely managed better than GW2 which was my point.
Miracles over night? lol 2+ years says hi
GW1 isn’t an MMO? news to me…
Gem shop and RNG acc bound mini is rly fun amirite? What about those 1 hour long LS updates… give me a break, 2 mini zones since release and nothing but QoL updates which a lot made things even worse like the NPE.
Hell if ANet were competent enough to add one simple feature cough cough particle effect slider maybe I could take them a bit more serious. I know they pride themselves on visuals but it actually makes the game look and run like complete and utter dog crap in any sort of pve setting, not even able to see what you are attacking.
The game has so many glaring issues that ANet choose to ignore I have grown pessimistic
One of the original intentions (officially) for the single PvP mode was to unify low end and high end PvP. In GW1, they felt the large difference between the early access (RA) and the competitive (GvG) format scared a lot of people off. They also felt GvG was far too complex.
This makes me cringe.
1) If they wanted to unify low and high end pvp, why even have failjoin as an option? It’s almost like a different mode itself cuz people are so horrible in it.
2) the difference between RA and GvG was astronomical, the game modes are completely different. Everyone and their mom knew that RA was casual while GvG was competitive.
NO 1 was being scared there, the only thing that scared players away was the silly R9+ requirements or w/e people were asking. I ran with my guild so I wasn’t affected (GUILD. WARS.) but even so, those people simply did not try seriously to find a guild or team.
Some ppl just aren’t willing to put in the effort to take pvp seriously, and we should get punished for that? Thx casuals for ruining MMOs since early 1800s
3) GvG was not very complex honestly but it took half a brain to play and I guess that is bad for business these days when every MMO has to be (self censor) ‘casual’ friendly.
GW3 will be toddler accessible and even more revolutionary, skills have been removed and we simply stare dragons to death. WASD was too confusing to new players so we removed movement as well!
I should probably go to bed
filthy casuals
Honestly I’m against it. Leveling up teaches you to play the class, even if it only teaches you one new trick for the class, it’s worth it.
I agree with this stance in a game like WoW where you have plenty of skills, but in GW2 where you just spam 1 and dodge here and there I have to lol at this comment.
Leveling in this game is atrociously boring imo, agree with OP though I would never buy it personally with the ludicrous exchange rates. I get my level tomes from pvp.
I’ve thought, for a long time now, that they’re working on an expansion. Which would explain why so little new areas are being added to the game, or how slowly they’re being added.
It’s very easy to make assumptions…but that’s all they really are.
I think that is too much faith in a company that doesn’t give a kitten about its players anymore.
They abandoned GW1 what is stopping them from doing it to 2, it already feels like they have to me. I hope you are right and they are working on an xpac but I HIGHLY doubt it.
I took ANet much less time to put out triple the content in GW1.
(including chest at end for win containing genuinely valuable items).
Haaaaaaaahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
not in GW2 bro!
Right. But since the game’s population is so small, it can’t be like that unless people are okay with queues taking 10 or more minutes to pop.
Higher rated usually means longer waiting times….but not in GW2. As long as the lower rated dude (who started playing today) waits in queue for a while he might end up in matches with or against top 10 players. Top 10 players that get close to insta pop vs that same guy.
Whats wrong with having a wow like system…where u have to queue during certain hours as higher rated player.
WoW pvp isn’t dead like here so you don’t wait too long but imagine that in GW2 we’d be waiting 30 minutes queue’s just to fight the same ppl over and over.
ANet needs to revive pvp before they even contemplate a half decent rating system. I’d say roll it out with GvG, something that is bound to get pvpers back into the game. Ye that’s like 3 years from now tho.
RNG on a whole ’nother level.
“spoilers spoil things” lol I don’t think any1 cares about the weak story but are more curious about the new content.
From that info it says we get an area adjacent to Dry Top.
Tier1 yolo, don’t insult me br0 I mak u da laff stokc of pevepe
GW2 pvp is working as intended, spam aoe/AA and proc passives. GG e-sports
Well after tons of rather negative feedback, i would like to know what the Arenanet team now thinks about this case?
Ignore rest of thread and hope everyone forgets about it
Halloween in GW2 ruined.. “we don’t make grindy games” lullululululululululutrolololololololl
Pretty sure GW2 is the only MMO this year with such a ridiculous RNG bullcrap.
so exciting 10/10 pve would watch again, favorited and subbed im #1 fan
No but it should, the amount of bags you get from the pvp track is laughable
