As a WvW Commander on T1 Blackgate, I thank you guys for your hard work in running supply and yaks to our towers and Keeps. We need more people like you.

To say that 1 or 2 Commanders on Blackgate are “Elite” would take the glory away from the others. As far as I’m concerned, kitten near every BG Commander is Elite in my book. There are a few that are bad though. but for the most part, the big leaders are good.

So, I just wanted to cut in the middle of people raging for no reason and getting mad at everything to say some nice things!

First off I want to give a shout out to SoR’s STOP Guild and JQ’s GE guild for fun fights in Eternal Battlegrounds on Sunday and Monday. On Sunday me and my guys (no one specific Guild, just all of the BG militia) managed to win most open field fights, (mostly against GE) and on Monday we were pretty even with SoR and JQ in terms of open field wins (We won some, and lost some) (Sorry I can’t remember what JQ guild was operating on EBG last night 5-7 server time [WARD perhaps?]). Overall it was a ton of fun, and I usually hate going to Eternal, but the last couple of days have drawn me there, and I LOVE it!

I’d also like to give a shoutout to all Blackgate folks that have rolled with me the last couple of nights. Those last night had a ton of fun (I hope!), because I know I did. :P.

Keep up the good fights guys, and hopefully we can keep having the epic fights!

To deviate from the forum wars for a bit…

I just wanted to say that I had a blast on EBG tonight. (5-9 pm server time) I managed to rally the Beastgate militia again and wipe several JQ and SoR zergs, but we also got wiped ourselves some! At one point, to rally the militia onto our VoIP, I told them if we get 50 on TS3, I will start singing and sing Commands. We managed to get 50 on, and I held my word! Then later one of my Guildies started playing Yakety Sax and we were rolling around with that, and it was just tons of fun! Glad SoR and JQ are fighting hard against us! Hopefully videos will be up soon!

I was Commanding EBG for Blackgate when we took one of your waypoints down @ SMC.. It was a lot of fun fighting JQ in EBG since we had numbers to match them for once! I wish we had it recorded though.

After we had to zerg to take it from JQ, we camped it, to run our guys through, and wound up having one of the most epic battles ever.

I wanted to give a shoutout to SoR’s Tempest Wolves [TW] Guild (and firends) last night on SoR bl (About 5:30-6:30 p.m. server time) I was leading my [LW] guys, as well as our ally [LAW] and others in our militia. ‘Twas a lot of fun fighting you near north and south Hills. I remember how earlier on in the night, we were fighting at north Hills, and slowly kept losing our guys, but took y’all about 15 min to kill us all. xD.

Also way to have discipline and not pursue us when we tried baiting you back towards the bridge leading to Bluelake tower.

Lots of fun, looking forward to more engagements!

That north hills fight was quite fun, it was nice to have a solid open field fight. Its been a long time for [TW] at least, to have a guild fight them in the field. Anyways props for the epic fight, and can’t wait to see you guys out there!

Yeah, I’m trying to work on [LW]‘s open field fighting skills. Our problem atm is numbers. We field about 10-15 at most usually, and against a 25-30 orgainized team, not looking good. :P. That’s why we have our ally [LAW] running with us.

Let me ask you something: why take away something that gives defenders a chance to hold a location, just because a few people cried over it? It seems pointless. You might as well remove traits altogether, and have only 1 attack, that way everyone quits crying… :|

[LW] is still chugging along, and although we had some drama ensue (Morphast quit the game and tried breaking [LW] up for those that know who he is) and many of our players left, but we recovered and still have a decent WvW presence, although it isn’t QUITE T1 material, but that’ll be fixed soon..

I hope CD stays strong, so many good memories from there!

ANet, I just wanted to say wow…

This is by far the best update you have ever made, right next to the WvW update.

I’m one of those guys that HATES PvE and dungeons and other evil things (except cookies), but I ran this with some friends, and I was in love. I’m the kind of guy that spends no less than 5 hours a day in WvW fighting the baddies, but this, this will make me take a little break from the stress of T1 Commanding.

From what I’ve seen, even if it appears that you don’t have it, you still do, it’s just not displaying.

When it comes to siege deployment, you can use supply if you have 1 remaining, so carrying 11, 13, 15 supply will help build the siege faster. When it comes to walls/gates, you have to have a minimum of 2 supply to repair.

I would love to see the maps larger. EB is like urban warfare… towers, keeps, etc are WAY too close together. Even the BLs are pretty tight with the longest run to a keep going to be what? 30 seconds? Way too small.

30 seconds seems like forever when your Keep is being attacked by golems and lots of baddies.

Talentless, no flaming warranted for asking. Winning is the satisfaction and sense of doing well that comes from not only obtaining an objective but, how you achieved the objective. As they say, “It’s not the destination but, the journey.” Well, the journey has been derailed for many :-)

I think many of us could handle the Gremlin, as I call it. What’s disheartening is the non reaction from Arenanet. That this part of the game we so enjoy is now broken. It really depends how you play WvW. If you play for PPT, wow this is broken. If you play for badges, then it’s business as usual.

I dont know anyone that plays for badges… they are collecting dust in my bank. Winning is nice, but I dont find a reward good enough to cheat for it… lol. At least Lance Armstrong got a cool kitten and stuff for a while.

I think I may have missed it… who’s cheating?

Last thing I really want to add. In all honesty, it’s pretty much an instinctive thing to be a good Commander. I was raised in a military family, so I’ve learned a lot, and I have a huge passion for it. You have to want it. You can’t question yourself. You have to MAKE people trust you. Give it a shot, if you can’t rally people, then you shouldn’t be a Commander.

I hate when people QQ because they die in WvW. Why should ANet get rid of the things that people use to do well in WvW? This is just one of those things that enables a smaller team to help the bigger zerg by wiping and/or delaying the enemy zerg. GET OVER IT. Go back to PvE.

I just wanted to bump this thread up, I think it got hidden. Keep posting the funny truths guys/gals!

A good Commander will always be prepared. I usually drop at least 3g+ (closer to about 5/7g probably) a night in siege, and upgrades. That’s because I usually play for several hours at a time when I’m Commanding, so it’s easier for my gold to diminish. Best advice I can give you, just like everyone else, try and either join a WvW Guild and watch those Commanders, then try and strut your stuff, or, find a group of 5 friends, get on a voice chat (Mumble, TS3, etc.) and try and take objectives. Depending on your server, you can take anything with a 5 man team.

Commanding isn’t easy.

After over a 15 hour shift of non-stop WvW, I managed to lead my guys into taking Garrison back from JQ, Bay back from JQ, and almost Hills (had to go, to tired). One helluva night guys, thanks JQ (PRX) and SoR (FEAR and other Guilds) for the fun on BGBL today/tonight. I’ll see y’all in a few days, need to rest and recover from such a shift.

Why would better loot bring people into it? If you want to know why people give up, it’s because they’re quitters, and they only want to play when their team has a huge lead. Honestly, this is one thing that ticks me off about people, they give up to easily.

Mesmer because they have by far the most raid utility and tricks.

So playing one yourself cuts out the middle-man if you ever want to perform fancy portal moves.

Other than that you want something fairly durable like a Guardian and ideally something that is easy to play so you can focus on other things.

See, I wouldn’t want to be the relied upon Mesmer and Commander, because what if you need to hide as a mesmer, but yet your the only Commander on the map? It would be quite a pickle, because as any Commander knows, the pugs are lost without a pin to follow. ;/

I have two toons with a Commander pin, one I bought, and the other was donated to me through my Guild. The first one that I bought was on my Warrior, which I made because I thought I would be able to tank and survive and yada yada. That was false. I did make a name for myself though, so when I made a Guardian to make a team with some friends of mine in the Guild, and kept just using my Guardian, shelving my Warrior, the guild donated 90g to get me a new pin on my Guardian since they’re not account bound. Needless to say I have a MUCH higher survivalbility, meaning I can stay alive, assess the battlefield, and still be useful.

Basically, I think that a Guardian is an ideal choice for the Commander pin.

Had some pretty good fights in BG BL tonight. Fights ranging from 4v10 underwater fights, 5 on 5 guardians vs thieves, and us waiting patiently as TC failed to take Hills from FA. It took us quite a few hours (and about 4 trebs) to take Bay from TC. Eventually we pushed through though!

My name is Sir Tryce, as many of you at Crystal Desert know. I’m coming onto this forum and posting for perhaps the last time.

I’ve come to say a formal farewell on behalf of Morphast, myself, and Last Words [LW]. We took a vote yesterday and as of 6 pm server time, decided to move our Guild to Black Gate. We all had various reasons for wanting to move, but please not it wasn’t because of any one person or Guild, or the fact we were being steam rolled in tier 3. I will keep our reasons for moving to myself, but those who actually use the Crystal Desert Team Speak 3 know of our reasons. I don’t want the forum warriors here taking this as an opportunity to mock Last Words or Crystal Desert. All I will say is that it was an emotional meeting and a hard decision to move our Guild. We left behind good friends, and even better comrades in arms.

FJ, DB, You guys were great opponents. FJ, it was fun fighting you guys, you always fought hard, even before your huge merger, and always gave us a tough time. Keep fighting hard, and maybe we’ll see eachother again. DB, same goes for you, keep doing what your doing, you came in swinging, keep doing it.

Crystal Desert, I leave you with these final words,

Never give up, you’ve been up and down, but you’ve never given up, keep fighting the good fight. It was an immense pleasure to work alongside you guys, and even die with you. I also just want to compliment FA on quick reaction times. We took couple hours and many attempts just to snag the Hills, and we FINALLY did it. I think we managed to actually contest your Keep so you couldn’t mass wp on us and wipe us. xD

Part two of Mr.Chaoticolin’s video of last week’s Yak Parade featuring the Spirit Yak. (which I believe can be achieved using a strawberry ghost, for anyone who would like to be a spirit yak in the next parade)

First of all, welcome Dragonbrand to tier 3! I’m glad there was FINALLY a change up, though still feel bad for IoJ, as they’ve gone downhill. I hope everyone else is as excited about this match-up as I am. If things stay like they did for reset, then this match-up will prove to be interesting!

I had lots of fun last night on Dragonbrand borderlands, I believe the primary defending Guild was [Krew]? They did a great job in my opinion. Crystal Desert did a good job too, we had a little hiccup at the beginning and then half of my guild, Last Words [LW] got disconnected, including both of our Pins on the map, but we managed to rally and sit at Bay for about an hour or so, staring at the wall HOPING for some action.

Overall a great night, and can’t wait to see how the week plays out!

I’m going to come out and just say it… I’m loving these matchups. Before when TC was in here, they just face-rolled everyone, whereas now it’s actually a close game. It’s causing all the servers to have to unite to fight their opponents, and I’m seeing improvements in Crystal Desert as a WvW community, which I LOVE. Being a Commander, it kinda sucks when you have pugs not listening and your losing all your stuff to a well organized opponent. Sometimes, I just want to /cry in the corner. xD

Last night was probably one of the best nights in WvW I’ve ever done. Me and a couple of friends went to IoJ borderlands, and did very well! We even almost ninja’d the Bay! And the funny thing is that we were lowbies. xD I dunno how, but we fought off IoJ zerg after zerg, until you guys finally decided to rush us. xD

Lots of fun, and I’m looking forward to reset night tonight, since I missed last weeks!

I agree with you on this point. During reset night, me and my fellow CD players managed to take over most of IoJ’s map after hours of (fun) intense fighting. We were super excited to have the north locked down (Garrison, Sunnyhill, Cragtop [Green bl].) Then, we get reports that Sunnyhill is being attacked. We go to look, and it’s basically 50+ IoJ that were using a breakout event. Now, by this time, some of our players are leaving either due to boredom from having most of the map, or just the late hour of the night, but they rolled through us extremely fast. Same thing happened at Cragtop. Then they just went and attacked (and took) their Garrison back without help from the breakout. My point being, they didn’t need a breakout event to take either of the towers, they had well over 50+ players on. It would’ve taken longer, yes, but that’s more fair.

I believe that breakout events should either be A: only caused when you are granted the outmanned buff, or B: taken out completely. They are over abused, and just make it next to impossible for a server to have complete dominance. I mean, if one server manages to completely wipe the other server, shouldn’t that mean they have the right to defend the towers and Keeps they capture?

I’ve seen trebs in Durios take out SMC trebs before, so it’s not impossible. And the point of SMC is for the dominant team to hold it, so it’s a little perk of holding the most fought after location, you get to hit elsewhere. I don’t think ANet really needs to fix anything.

I’m from CD and we have no alliance with either, and we weren’t working with Ebay, it was just a huge cluster fight for SMC, and what a fight it was!
