Edit:
Built siege equipment visible on map, not only trebs.
Names of sites in WvW, not only “Red supply camp”. Everyone is using proper names and sometimes it’s hard to remember where someone is calling.

Two new things I thought of are:
Upgrade for doors – mouths spitting fire on attackers. Expensive and build for a long time, but hinder siege greately.
Upgrade for walls – Magnets that allow allies to literally – jump on walls (similar to Bioshock Infinite grapple/magnetic hook). Again – expensive upgrade and long build time.

I predict…

Dynamic Champion Scaling.

It’s going to be glorious!

IMO:
Scaling would be far too little to help the situation.
Do you wanna sigh when you see zerg going to boss and you know that everyone will have to pew pew him for 5 minutes because of scaling?
We need new mechanics, maybe even stages with boss fight (for example – more reinforcements as his health goes down, etc.) – like in Final Fantasy games (in FF8 last boss had 4 or 5 stages, each had different abilities).
Scalling is ok for events but bosses need a lot more love.

Imagine that mobs that were not killed for at least an hour have a chance to drop some rare parts of something useful (armor, weapon?).

I would love for there to be a mechanic along these lines. Care must be taken though to ensure the mechanic doesn’t spread people out too much. We wouldn’t want players actively avoiding each other.
The simplest (and possibly most fool-proof) way is to reward players more in under or averagely populated areas. That would normalize the population across the open world.

Or it could be limited to few mob kills per day/account. For a few weeks you could be hunting mobs you need, it could be very fun and I’m sure that if Anet would agreed on implementing this, they would add something extra to ensure that we wouldn’t tire of is too soon

Another idea – when I’ve written “hunting mobs” it occured to me that we lack class quests. But that’s probably too big for any kind of hope now.

I’d love it if there were a reward structure to encourage people to spread out over the world (like bonus XP on mobs, only more extensive).

Now this gave me an idea:
Imagine that mobs that were not killed for at least an hour have a chance to drop some rare parts of something useful (armor, weapon?).
What I have in mind:
Some npc character (hidden somewhere) says that there was a adventurer who wore a special pair of gloves which warned him whenever something attacked him – they started to burn. Legend says that this particular pair of gloves were created from the fur of creatures of opposing elements: fire and ice (there can be other – poison and life, thunder and water, etc.). Now you can start gathering components (2% chance of dropping from long-lived creature). You need 125 of each. Then you can craft it – gloves that give special visual effect in battle.

This would spread population across whole world in search of mobs that were not killed in a long time.

I just don’t like that they are ruining the open world environment, I can’t take caledon seriously anymore with the circus crap thrown around.

There are about 2 locations where balloons looks amazing from afar, but apart from it it’s, how you beautifully put it, circus crap.

EDIT:
ok, to not make pure flame post without substance:
I don’t like how these balloons grow like mushrooms out of nowhere everywhere in the world, how suddenly human have robots, how we have elements from fairy tales where there’s carnage, whole cities are burned to ground, people slaughtered, sacrificed, minotaurs eaten alive (I’d wish this was portraied somehow, I miss fights like the very beginnig of the game, you feel tension, the adrenaline).
Apart from story, there is no indication that humans are barely surviving. Failed events of defending human villages should make them burned down completely, fallen bodies lying around. Then new people should arrive, who would like to rebuild town, this would have many stages:
protecting people in their journey, helping them gather materials, maybe even train soldiers (we are a hero, don’t we?), then take the site from attackers, help building it, protecting, creating new buildings (houses, windmils, barracks, etc. – we could decide what to build) then just being with these people we would influence how the town prosper, how people will live there. We could even fortify this town so much that future events would require a lot more mobs to actually endanger it.
This would make the world living, not balloons. Yea, balloons, because… just because.

Ok, so I gave a try to being a part of farming group at Frostgorge Sound. It gave me a clear picture of what this game is now.
Everyone know that they cannot be better than other apart from their skill? And despite that, so many ppl just farm, teleport from place to place and kill champ in 5-7 seconds. One I started attacking at the very beginning of zerg massacre with my Engineer and I’ve received nothing, boss was not tagged for me, great.

Nononononononono, I don’t wanna play this game that way, it drains brain. It’s so mindless, it’s so… so… kitten STUPID AS HELL!
And also don’t try to persuade me that it brought life to world. It brought zombies who see only one thing – champions.
Even chat doesn’t show any other messages, only: “Oak up, then boar, then this and then that.” “Hey, wanna join farm, any spot left in pt?” “Ok ppl ,everyone here [WP]”.

Make champions drop bags once a day per account, pls, do something to stop this game-killing activity!

Really, you wanted to achieve THAT? Even so this is broken – champs die too fast.
I don’t wanna believe it that this is the way this game is taking.

It occured to me that maybe to eliminate zerg we should simply have to activate more than 2 bosses (so let’s say 4) and redefine the scaling:
1-10 – normal, challenging
11-15 – very hard, boss is much more demanding
16+ – boss is so hard that is not worth the effort.

This way zerg would have to split and every fight would require this smaller group to coordinate much more.

Imagine how battles with dragons would be fun when after entering dragon zone, each player would be randomly assigned to certain task – attack wings, attack dragon head on, support/defend artillery, fire artillery, fight reinforcements. If you wouldn’t do your job, you would get no reward.

I like this idea very much. You’d have a different experience every time you do the encounter. They could also add random events that COULD happen to some objectives. For example: you got the job: defend the artillery. On one occasion there spawns a huge champion which you have to push away with knockbacks so that he doesn’t destroy the defense. On an other occasion the champion won’t spawn, but instead a friendly NPC champion comes along and you get the new job: storm the flanks and keep the NPC alive.

That’s exactly what I have in mind – expanding DYNAMIC event system!
Imagine that we have 7 ppl in group and task – defending the artillery and huge abomination spawns which starts his slowly advance towards our big guns.
And we think: Aaaaaahkitten we got no necro with spectral wall to keep it away! Maybe mesmer could get new skill for this occasion: artillery illusion: abomination would be confused and with a little luck attack our illusion.

There’s so many possibilities, so many great uses of what we have now in game.

Hi,

I was thinking on how can WvW can be expanded with new toys >:)

I’ve got here some screenies to back up my ideas.

But first of all – I don’t wanna generic machines, that look as in any medieval movie – very standard catapults and trebuchets – it’s not interesting and spoils having all the inventions of all races!

Ok, fist screen on top:
Cannot to… launch players! Yes! It should be very expensive but would allow to fire us behind enemy walls! Add to this my last idea (last image) and hohoo, we could get nice carnage.

Second image – anti-zerg cannot. It fires ball of matter that creates black hole that sucks and severe injures any player who is nearby. Firing requires supply and some time to charge, so escaping is possible.

Third image – machine gun – turns very slowly but can chop any player to bits in a matter of 2 seconds. Firing requires supplying.

Fourth image – Sniper gun: one shot – one kill but it doesn’t work like any attacks – it isn’t automatic. You must turn the gun manually. The range should be minimum 10k, maybe more. It’s mobile – you can pack it up and deploy again. It’s quite expensive to build and takes a lot of time.

Fifth screen: balloon, yes! Attack from above! It moves veeery slowly, can only take 5 players and have limited supply of bombs. You can of course safely leave the balloon and lay devastation with you character, but you cannot go back. When there’s no one on the balloon it’s set to autodestruction and lands with explosion exactly below it.

And last picture. Explosive chicken! Yeah!
We need brave (or suicidal) player to try to use it. Chicken is very fragile so almost any damage can detonate it. Explosion is big and don’t distinguish friends from foes. It also does big damage to doors (but not walls). You can be fired with chicken from the first cannon (if anyone wondered – you are fired with parachute, so firing should also require some supply). How to get chicken? Well – get it from battlefield, bring to your base and pack it with explosives!

I know that there are many more guns and cannons and other tools presented in the game (asura laser, cannons, etc.) but these gave me some ideas.

Any thoughts?

Imagine how battles with dragons would be fun when after entering dragon zone, each player would be randomly assigned to certain task – attack wings, attack dragon head on, support/defend artillery, fire artillery, fight reinforcements. If you wouldn’t do your job, you would get no reward. Each task could be some distance away to minimize low fps or even could be done in separate instances.
I’m sure that it is known the average number of players who fights dragon, so there should be no problem in optimizing each task (and scale it appropriately).

I really wanna see that Tyria expands to support smaller groups with wiser and more complex quests, events and challenges other than spamming #1. There is already many relaxing things to do, possibilities are superb – please use them!

I think that there should be done some work (PvE and WvW) to make melee characters more significant (maybe more anti-ranged mechanics should be added). With actual problems with new effect detail option, boss attacks (aoe) are barely visible. Dragon battles don’t support melee at all. IMO it must change!

Im flabbergasted that the OP got so much attention. It just goes to show that getting a popular thread on the forums means posting unconstructive, insulting, criticism to the game, which is then responded to by hundreds who oppose or agree.

Why it’s insulting? Why do you say it’s unconstructive? OP said more than first post.
OP showed his opinion, he didn’t say like many “I like/don’t like the update”. He gave many reasons, he said why. Then many people agreed or not and showed their reasons.

We got darn good engaging discussion here. And criticism is essential for improvement, you know. To my knowledge (I didn’t read every post here but big majority) no one insulted anyone.

Don’t you agree that there’s a lot in the game (and this patch) that can be made better or different?

Just be patient more main line story will come soon enough. Instead of being negative about what you felt you didn’t like about the patch why not just focus on what you did like. No one is forcing you to play the new content or the game for that matter.

For me it’s not the problem of being impatient. It’s the problem of the whole direction the game is taking, so no amount of time will bring the update I dream of – expansion of world, improvements of faulty systems, new ways to affect Tyria, interesting further story.

Listen, of course I can name positives and forget about negatives. But this way I won’t really and trully enjoy the game. I will be lying to myself of telling that I like the game only because I will acknowledge things I dislike. I’ve done the math and I’m really starting to dislike more things than like in a wonderful game that’s becoming only good in a beautiful world that’s neglected by it’s makers.

I really can’t change myself in this matter, I won’t start liking grind or content appealing to zerg. The game started to change, important things are put away for shallow content. I shout – “Please! Look in the mirror and see what you’re becoming! I don’t like it, but I really care for you and thus I don’t want you to lose me. And many others who really care!”

Idea how to utilise this device – it teleports 5 man party to small random location with one of the legendary mobs. That simple.
We gather party, grind a bit to build it and then we can battle boss for a reward.

Similar to Torchlight 2 phase portal with a twist. We get few locations and few bosses. Each location and boss have it’s own mechanic so adding them could produce interesting battlefield:
this first boss from gauntlet tier 1 (who is easy but have killer attack) can easily be defeated at open but in sewer with narrow corridors this fight could be completely something else > : )

If you mean that if we can see ppl escorting same npc over and over or killing few pirates in 2 locations per map is indication that open world is alive again, imo you are mistaken.

People are doing Champion runs all around the maps at the moment, so I would say it is quite alive.

I do find that every living story did a nice job of reviving the areas they took place in.
During flame and frost, diessa and wayfarer were full of players.
Return to Southsun, well southsun was filled!
Dragon bash, you had players in pretty much every map, doing effigies and holograms.
same for the Bazaar and the Jubilee, with the kites and balloons.

IMO the updates don’t bring life to areas, they force life into them. And temporary

How do they force life into them? Does someone go about threatening each user to do the event? Sorry, but I just don’t understand how a player can be forced into an area to do something, if you don’t want to do it you don’t have to. They even introduced a way for casual players to complete the meta-achievement through dailies involving the Jubilee. Therefore, your analysis makes no sense.

On a side note, “The Wallet” is quite simply AWESOME!

Maybe I have exaggerated a little. My point was that now players battle champs when they spawn and go away for another. Players are forced into areas where champs spawn, because only them can give shinies everyone wants. Other events are abandoned.

so: 1-10, 11-20,… 71-79, 80.
It could be very interesting to see how character without all skills and any fancy runes or sigils fare againts difficult opponent. And, what’s important to me – it would provide content across all our leveling time. And developers could improve the fights, add new opponents, just do it even better and everyone could enjoy it whenever he would like.

If I was to name things that were added after release that I’d want to celebrate:
- Fractals

That’s about it. No other things remained that added anything to gameplay. And please, no comments like – minigames, one jp here or there. Year have passed and we jump from temporary something to temporary something else.

Now if I were to start with new character what this content would provide me:
- I’d be oneshooted
- Levels would be gained like crazy (I wanna level up when I’m in the world, not zerg arena)
- Many mats of every type, lots of loot would fill my 4-space backpacks in 5 seconds (now with wallet I have tons of gold for my fresh toon, it’s killing joy of starting new character)
- can’t complete baloon achievement because they are scattered across whole Tyria

When I roam with my new toon I just think that there’s zerg who is getting gold and materials like crazy and I just do low lvl events alone and try to level up to do another personal story quest.

I wonder where Anet is going with rewards – what can they give us after this – maybe precursors will drop from uber legendary monsters in WvW maps which will spawn every 10 minutes.

IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE DYNAMIC WORLD BUT NOT IN A SENSE OF KILLING LEGENDARY MONSTERS WITH CHANCE OF DROPPING EVERYTHING IMPORTANT EVERY FEW MINUTES IN PLACES 20 METERS AWAY (while killing hordes of champs and vets along the way who also drop kittenload of things).
Now killing anything in the world will feel unnecessary (hey – you had your chance at pavilon, you were supposed to kill 100 legendary monsters and 200 champs and 500 vets a day for 4 weeks, now you can barely kill 2 champs a day – and only if events are not bugged and you find players who help but again – hey, they are tired of doing what’s been written above).

What’s more – you get scrolls which give you skill points. So now it’s better to level up any character from lvl 1 to 80 in one place – it’s faster, more lucrative and without risk that there won’t be somebody to help with vet or champ. It’s like whole Tyria is in one place that’s designed for zerg, not specific character, different builds, etc.

Please don’t tell me that this kind of update can help this game.
I believe that it’s now no problem to get max lvls in a few hours. Yesterday I gained 70 to 75 veeery fast and I wasn’t with the zerg all the time.

We got beautiful world full of things you charmed us with and now you kill it yourself.

I think that some ‘mystery’ would be beneficial to announcements of new events across Tyria, like:
- in patch notes: “new events at Wayfarer Foothils”
-in game:
We go to Wayfarer Foothils and start searching, we see changes in mobs – like bigger groups of minotaurs or wolves here and there – that would be clues. We see npc hidden behind tree observing big alfa minotaur – this start chain quest where we defeat it as he is corrupted, then we defend remaining minotaurs (we have to kill them as few when fighting alfa as possible or we will fail) from some monsters. Then we encounter spirit of the wild, who shows us source of corruption – we escort blessed minotaur there to cleanse it. There we fight boss who escapes.
This way this chain can always be made bigger.

I’d like to see rewards from dynamic events like:
when we rebuild destroyed bridge after we succeed there’s memorial plate placed nearby with names of players who helped. Same with defending city. There npcs should shout our names in gratitude, mayor of town give us discount on all merchandise (this would require a little revamp of vendor items).

Such small rewards shouldn’t be hard to implement and would add a feeling of being part of region which we helped.

My most favorite part of game is actually being part of the world.

Thing that kills this game little by little are rewards IMO. Yes. Ppl don’t want to do anything if they won’t receive their shinies. Where is the need for adventure, for travel, for exploring, for experiencing world? Where, I ask?
Where is the need for cooperation when all new content we have requires for all to become one mass of many graphical effects and low fps?

If you really wanna feel what I’m talking about, try to kill Giant in town of Nageling (Diessa plateau – Nageling WP) with 3, 4 random players. It’s so fun, so rewarding, exciting. With my melee engineer I started learning how to properly use Tool kit in order to survive. Some random elementalist came and we almost managed to take giant down. It really was a great experience. We was helping each other, hiding behind buildings, rocks. I needed to properly use my healings skill to keep our health high enough in order to survive any mistakes on our part and there were many

Killing legendary figures at Crown Pavilion with tens of players compared to this is so without substance. Gray. Dull. And what’s worst for me – I don’t fully utilise my character. I just stand behind zerg and pew pew boss and try to heal as many players as possible. There is no effort in it.

Btw. I wonder if ppl still would hunt champs across world if now we have them in one place and kill them without problems, everyone grind them like crazy. When Jubilee end, what of that will remain? Won’t everybody be accustomed to having big zerg with them killing champs that are 20 meters away?

The very first living world team actually did the thing some of you have called for. Some 40 or so permanent events were added around the game in our very first content update. They were met with little interest or fanfare. Granted, Halloween may have stolen the show. But those events are still in the game today. I’ve seen very little reaction to them, however, positive or negative. Despite this, there are many events I would still like to add. Many zones and bosses I would love to revisit. As we get better at the living world, I strongly suspect we’ll have room to get around to them as well. Assuming that’s what our players really want. You are all the second half of the collaborative process, so thanks for helping!

From release notes of “Shadow of Mad King”:
“Tyria Evolving
The world continues to evolve with new events, jumping puzzkitten sses, mini-dungeons, and achievements appearing across a variety of maps.”

This could be the only sentence in the next few update notes.

To compare this update to previous ones I think that it’s pretty good. My favorite was Helloween – this update really gave me so much hope for the future of GW2. Then we had Christmas and it was good but one class lower.
Then we got updates with dredge – update that was to my liking like dredge face :|
Almost one year have passed and we got no big changes to world.
I thought that what’s to expect is that there will be many places across whole Tyria when there will be things to do, not one place and temporary where all players gather that want to beat new content as much as they can while it’s active (expecially now when there’s rewards for achievement points).
We needed content that will stay and enrich Tyria, not give it short-lived decorations.

When I make a sandwich I make sure that the hunk of bread is not too thin because it could break and not too thick because it would make it hard to bite. Then I add butter, lettuce, cheese, etc. I don’t add a little of pepper here and salt there when there’s no main ingredients and say to everyone – I’ll be better in salting with each sandwich. But thickness of bread is different with each new sandwich. Maybe butter is getting old and I’ve got enough of cheese.

Even this simple thing – making a sandwich can be easily kittened up. Of course everyone new to making them will make poor ones at first but he will knew what to improve.
When we make sandwiches for 1 000 000 ppl we know that not everyone will like them but we don’t deviate from general rules – we make even loafs of bread (different bread) and place on whole surface next ingredients.
If you put too many things it may look interesting but will taste foul or dull.

Now we have big unregular loaf of bread and I don’t know which side to bite. I know that I must be fast because someone will take away tasty ingredients when I find them. Sometimes bread is too thin and only with butter or I feel only cheese I don’t like.

I don’t enjoy this sandwich as whole.
EDIT: And I don’t like the way new sandwiches are made.

New mechanics?

Have anyone thinked on any completely new mechanic that could be added to the game, to fight?
By mechanic I mean – existing dodge and jump.

We could have:
*crouch/bunker – non aoe dmg have 33% to miss, we cannot attack.
*kick/punch – independently of normal attacks we can have additional attacks which are weak but fast and may have additional effects on them like stamina drain or small knockback.

I think that everyone just become accustomed to what we have now.
I want to change it.

I have charr engi and I run without any swiftness and it’s fine. I know that it’s slower but it’s partly my point. I want for ppl to travel. Slower or faster – depends of course on class and build. Maybe we could have npc which give swiftness near main WP, just like in capitals – just to be fair for everyone.

Redesign of Waypoint system

My issue – we blink from point to point, from event to event hoping that we can be on time before all mobs are slaughtered by teleporting zerg.

It kills immersion, the need to travel, the need to put effort to arrive at destination.

My idea:
Every map should have main Waypoint.
We can teleport to it and only to it from any other point across Tyria – as it is now. The rest of waypoints on this map can only be teleported to by being near the main one.
Costs should be – teleport to main one from other map – 5s, teleport to main one on the same map – 0s, teleport to other WP on the same map – ~1s.

Now, this sounds stupid now There’s one thing more:
There would be cooldown on teleportation to other waypoints on the same map. Few minutes? 5 minutes? maybe 10 minutes?

Thank to this we would see many ppl travel across map, fight mobs they encounter, bring some dynamic to layout of players across map.

Any thoughts on this?

IMO axes, pistols, warhorns, staff and focuses are most poorly done.
Especially dull are axes – they are small, not amazing, they remind me of wood hatchets.

Warhorns, pistols and focues are too small and not interesting.

TL;DR:
I agree completely. We need more variety in all aspects of mobs in open world.

Longer:
I’m all the way with it but there was topics like this, I also made one and it seems that ppl are not interested at all in discussion.
I know that a lot of things require polish and additions so it’s understandable that it may be a long shot before we see some improvements but I don’t know why no one wants to talk about these changes.

For me roaming in Tyria is super relaxing, because of beaufitul environment and music but after a while beating single mobs who do nothing is getting boring.

What I’d like to see:
- groups of mobs with different roles – dps dealer, tank (plus CC), healer, aoe dmg dealer, etc.
- more variety of mobs (so new mobs and new variants)
- new behaviors, new situations (pack of wolves hunt deers, bears attack villagers as not a part of event, etc.)
- more skills for mobs and with different variants, different abilities – one type of spiders bind you in place, other cripple, other poison, other, very fast (blade spider) just kick #$@# out of you

Besides:
I wanna see more “visible” enemies, more meaningful – like oaks. Big beasts which just live in the world who pose a challenge if you would like to attack one. Most enemies are as big as our characters, they don’t stand out (hate risen, they are dull as $#$#$).

What do you dont like about gw2

What I don’t like:
- event start, zerg waiting or rushing there, what’s there to kill is killed in less than a minuet, event stop. Now we got mass of players just jump from point to point, because there’s nothing to do.
- updates are fun, deliver new things but temporary. I’ve seen NOT A ONE THING that enhanced world like new skills to mobs, more diverse mobs, more events, new npcs to talk to, new hearts. Updates guide us to one location where zerg gather who farm new temporary currency which is useless after ~two weeks.

- Overall I think that this game needed from the very beginnig more fundamental additions, not experiments and builds of short meaningless stories which are shallow and tiny in scale in comparision to main story. We needed things to enhance guild life, party playing, not just ways to gather zergs in places to farm new tokes. We wanted quality changes, not fillers.

- TPvP with only one game type and just no link of TPvP with PvE or WvW. I admire ppl who beat TPvP from the very beginnig and bear with this stagnant content.
- WvW haven’t improved at all IMHO. Changes are so minimal and don’t change in any way style of playing. Here I also bow to any player who plays it constantly from the beginning. Man, ppl are tough

Of course I could point many other smaller things, which in my opinion could be better but they are not so important. My main concern is that the game don’t feel as being developed. Feeling is more as it’s flashing to lure more players who want to dress their toons.
I really could pay monthly fee just to get major updates which give my main and future characters more to do, more to achieve, more to accomplish and more to face againts in new exciting ways.

Besides that, I love GW2

I’ve just written wall of text and deleted it as there is just one thing that I wanna say:
this come-and-go updates have to STOP! They are fun but totally don’t fit imho of what was before first festival. We got solid world with events occuring as we were passing by.
Now we just rush to events before huge zerg wipe everything. We just hope that we can have a bite of what’s happening.
I’ve just been in pavilon, kitten it’s idiotic – zerg running, people yelling: “hey, everyone, farm centaur champ!”
And indeed they are just mindlessly farming

Ah, hell, I’ll write my wall of text in another topic :P

Evon seemed like a lot more interesting character.
She’s (for me) typical good-hearted, predictable bore and I don’t like that she won, but, hey, who said that democracy is the best way to choose the ruler?

I’d like more:
- big towns with fighting on streets between buildings and in buildings, on walls, on roofs (could be great TPvP map with different than capturing points mode).
- dungeons! These good-ol’ full of bricks, sewers, odors, narrow corridors leading to rooms with even more corridors. We need more classic dungeons!
- Deserts! With lot of sands, rocks, like in movie Dune
- More underwater which tends to be quite beautiful (to promote possibility of playing beneath the surface).

Beautiful =/= bright and sunny I want beautiful and dangerous places! I wanna jungle with invisible enemies (they only reveal when they attack), beaches with high and steep cliffs where big siege cyclops live, I wanna high mountains where step in wrong direction means death down below, I wanna labyrinths where even the surroundings are your enemy, I wanna other dimensions where nothing you see is what you see.
I wanna more forests, more swamps, more corruption, I wanna more of everything!
