Only 1 character on my account, 100% positive it wasn’t offensive in any way possible. Regarding chat, sure i get into arguments here and there, but hey sometimes its hard to ignore those who believe everything they say is absolutely correct. However regarding conduct i’ve seen too many posts on reddit claiming they got perma-banned for saying “you suck”

So i take care of my phrasing to the point that if Anet had actually CHECKED the chat log instead of just indiscriminately banning anyone that had been reported, i wouldn’t have been banned. The other guy doing the trolling would definitely have been banned.

However i expect too much, i sent in a ticket last night at 8 EST so lets see how long this takes me. I love this game, but Anet feels like its full of NCsoft employees. Considering the trash support Aion had this is a feeling of deja vu i’m none too please to feel.

I got a 3 day ban for mentioning a flesh light in a joke. No cussing, no arguments, I’ve literally never said anything racial or at all proactive besides this one sentence that was a joke several people lol’d at. It wasn’t insulting, I wasn’t arguing, nothing. Just one random joke got me banned for 3 days.

I would treat Anet like a super strict HR department at a major corporation. Just imagine that one day at work you say to a female co worker “You look really nice today” She smiles at you and says ty then immediately turns around and reports you for flirting or harassment. You are fired the next day with no explanation.

I simply see no other way to view this situation. Avoid all contact via chat whether private or general. Even a friend could get angry about something and report you resulting in a ban. I’m not even talking about cussing here. It could be anything taken out of context or misconstrued as “offensive.”

Your best bet is too buy a new copy and never use chat. I would even be wary of Guild chat seeing as how any guildy could turn you in and you would never know who it was.

Yes, Anon, How beautiful that they simply suspend without warning. Meanwhile I will wait my 63+ hours for “Racial/Ethnic Slurs” despite it being something said to a friend jokingly. All parties involved were most likely sure of this, despite this it seems that ArenaNet thinks it’s plausible to give no warning besides a ToS. They’re in their right to do so, but hey, whatever.

If you type it in an area where others can read it, you can be reported. If you trust your friend 100% then use /whisper. But keep in mind your friend can still report you.

Best option is to get a voice program and just use that to bash each other. Faster, easier, and no suspensions.

Actually your best option is to not talk to much to anyone. Just remember that the friend your talking to could report you without ever mentioning it.

It’s Mccarthyism at it’s finest. You can’t get banned if you never use the chat features. I feel like this is the 1950’s Russia of video game chats. Any friend could be a spy in disguise who is resentful of something you said.

Your best off just never using chat all together. That’s the safest approach with a company this hyper strict.

Serious, post my complete chat history and show the community how easy it is to get banned.

I would avoid using general chat completely. On Saturday my first step is to make a new chat channel devoid of general. I’m never speaking in chat again in Gw2. They will ban you for any innuendo no matter how harmless.

Just imagine while playing Gw2 that you work in a large corporation that has a HR department that will fire you for talking to any females in the office. Best to just not talk to females, you never know how someone might take a off hand comment or flirtation.

The older I get the more I realize that it’s best to avoid other people as much as possible.

I may exhibit poor taste sometimes but I also help other players frequently. Say what you will but some of us aren’t afraid to admit we like a fart joke occasionally. I guess some people are just better than us low brow folk.

3 day ban for using poor taste is extreme. I can honestly say I have never seen a company this ban happy as a 36 year old gamer who grew up with the original atari. I’ve been playing pc games since King’s quest and Leisure suit larry and I’ve never seen the sheer amount of ban’s this company is doing over trivial violations.

I have no problem restraining my future behavior to play GW2. I do have a problem though with a 3 day ban for such a innocent joke in a mmo.

You’d think that I had a racial argument for 10 minutes with someone in chat. All I did was pipe in with a single joke after someone else mentioned a Flesh light.

It got the point across, though, didn’t it?

Of course it gets the point across. It also p’s me off pretty bad as well for getting banned for kindergarten stuff. Honestly there is part of me that is asking whether I should even play this game anymore. It’s not like it’s good to sink a bunch of time into a mmo. That’s not to even mention the money. Heck i’ve dropped well over 500$ on LOL and I barely play it.

If chat is going to be this unprecedented strict place where people can’t even joke around then I don’t see this mmo doing very well in the long run.

Half the reason we play mmo’s is for the variety of personalities on a server. I don’t like racists as much as the next guy. I’ll report a racist or gay basher every time. Banning for a flippant joke though is extreme when a simple warning would have solved the problem and not given me the start of a resentment towards Anet.

I have a 3 day suspension for “defrauding someone of in-game items, currency, or services.”

I have not even played with other players in GW2 yet. I have not traded with anyone, I have only partied with a RL friend ONCE. I don’t understand how I could have possibly defrauded someone, and have NO idea why I have been suspended. Character name is Chronic Abuse.

Some how this doesn’t surprise me. I can’t even imagine what your suspension even means.

I know it’s stupid and in bad taste, but a automatic 3 day ban without some warning seems drastic considering how many games I’ve played.

I’m 36 btw. Yeah, I like to act like a kids sometimes in chat. What of it. I’ve never called someone the N word or the B word or told them to F off in ANY video game.

So a automated warning takes more time and effort than a automated ban? Come again?

A automated warning on your first offense would take more time than offending a bunch of players who have literally played dozens of dozens of mmo’s with no previous problems?

Giving me a warning for saying “fleshlight” is handholding compared to a automated warning?

How exactly is it harder to send a canned email than banning someone? Is that like how it’s harder to push my microwaves button as opposed to my stoves? They’re both buttons last i checked.

So? We dont get any warning for getting a first mark? Just a 14 day ban suddenly? why not a 3 day ban.. :S Im pretty sure it was once or twice I said the n word with my friends and in unharmful way but why the 14 days seriously its SO harsh :/

I believe you misunderstood. The first mark is 3 days. The second mark can be 14 days. If you have the first mark and get another in a relatively short period of time, the system automatically increases the suspension to 14 days.

How about a warning on your first mark via email or in game GM with a automated reply. “You have recieved a mark against your account. Take this as a warning on your language in game”

3 day ban on second mark and so forth.

I’ve never even gotten close to using racial slurs or name calling in a mmo. Referencing a fleshlight should not be a bannable offense on the first mark.

I very much so agree with you. If I had been warned instead of being banned immediately, I would have refrained from swearing. The only reason why I swore in GW2, is because it’s never been a problem in any video game I’ve played, and I didn’t think this one was different.

However, knowing now how strict everyone is about chat now, I’m not sure I want to play a game where I’m stressed out about if I’ll be reported for something I see as a joke, but someone else sees as offensive. Or if I lightly swear around guild mates or something. If that’s how they want to run their game, that’s fine. It’s just odd and I like this game, so I’d hate to have to see it off for such a trivial problem.

The thing is my quote up there is literal. I didn’t swear in the sentence. I don’t think i’ve sworn in GW2 chat at all ever.
