Best specs to run this game

My budget is 1.5k – 1.7k. I’ve never built my own gaming pc before and so far I’ve always played on laptops, missing out on a lot of features and good graphics.

Now I decided to get a good desktop, but I need to know the best specs I can get with that budget and if I’ll finally be able to run gw2 and other mmos, like wow or ff14,to max settings with no problems. (I can stretch 100-200€ more if necessary)

PS: how much painful is it to build a rig? Also, how long can I expect this pc to hold? Will I need to change stuff already within 6months-1y?

Thanks for your attention

Get the best cpu you can afford. Any game with high model counts (Diablo3, Gw2 WVW) will benefit much much more so from a beefy cpu.

With 1.5g though I would go with a I7 4790k, a 250$ Asus mobo and a nvidia 980 or 970.

Yeah I have completed the first two storyquests, I’ve gone to the Grove now, but it’s a low level area so I don’t think I’ll gain much from doing this.

I’ll keep an eye on any raw materials while questing here.

When I were in Kessex hills I only killed fireflys, since they’re likely to give more than 16 experience per kill.

XP scales. Just because the numbers look lower doesn’t mean they are. You fundamentally misunderstand GW2.

You can level anywhere. In fact being in a lower level zone is FASTER BECAUSE YOU KILL FASTER AND XP SCALES BETTER IN LOWER ZONES.

You do not kill mobs in GW2 to level up. Grinding is literally the worst possible way to level.

2 reasons.

1. Newer players will be more incentivized to purchase if they know something is returning rather than new. Something that is returning has a more immediate feeling about it because you’re aware it will leave again.

2. It bugs me that you’re incorrectly using the word “new”

The first reason is just good business sense.

I spent a ton of time lately watching Xerrex who is a pvp addict. Serious, sometimes I’ll get up at 8am and he’ll stream till 3 in the morning.

Anyways he pointed out that Rabid is better for a PU sword, torch, scepter, pistol type build where you’re relying on clones to proc bleeds.

Carrion is superior for condi shatter. I switched a few weeks ago and yeah, i think he’s right.

So in my opinion and Xerrex’s Carrion>Rabid for shatter. Rabid for phantasm/clone type builds.

I have no idea about sinister.

Paid player since march ’15
kittened at how much half-baked kitten is in this game which they now demand even more money for fixing.

Wait a second. You’re telling me that you’re saying there’s no healing when you haven’t tried healing gear and haven’t experimented with support builds.

I can literally out support almost anything on a cleric geared mesmer, even more so now after the specialty patch. Engineer and Ele can become straight up healers.

The issue is that pve doenst need healers, but i used to run clerics on my guardian because so many noobs would fail on COE on the boss. Sometimes I would just switch out for my healway Guardian and the party would be fine from that point on.

You sure do sound confident in your opinion for somebody who knows nothing on the matter. In fact Id say 90% of gw2 players have never even tried healing gear. So maybe you should try something before you go making gross assumptions?

I love that players who have never even tried healing gear are now “experts” on the subject.

Short answer, no it is not allowed.

But would I be banned for using it? or is it one of those, not allowed but you wont be punished for using any non cheat visual improvements?

My main reason behind asking being i sometimes use my Trackpad, and this mod would significantly Increase Quality of Life if i wouldn’t need to hold down right click

I know Woodenpotatoes uses that combat mod sometimes. So no I don’t think you would be banned for that. That being said I wouldnt advertise it or go screaming about it in map chat.

Another little addon that is nice is Yolomouse. All it does is make your cursor bigger and add customization.

I’ve been playing the game off and on since launch but never really farmed for gold until recently.

The last few weeks I have been doing the 4:30 world boss farm and making pretty decent gold doing so. This is especially great because my hands often hurt and afk farming world bosses is nice since I don’t have to button mash for hours.

My question is about which salvage kits to be using on which rarity. I have a couple copper fed salvage omatics that I use on pretty much everything blue and green. I use mystic kits on anything yellow.

So, should I be using a higher quality salvage kit on greens? And if so which exactly? Should I even be using my copper fed on blues?

I want someone who’s kinda canal about efficiency to respond. Thanks in advance.

A suggestion about Drop Rates.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Godmoney.2048

A side effect of having a real world money trading post is that drop rates must be stupidly low.

I’m not going to explain why this is. I’ve already done that 1000 times. Think about it and the answer is obvious.

Unless you’re proposing they remove the real money trading post this thread is meaningless.

I like the idea very much but removing the gems to gold would be ridiculous since it’s an established feature that helps people along.

The major problem with stupidly low drop rates is it means there’s less of that item, which means the price drastically goes up as there are far fewer undercutters for that item. If someone does undercut then a reseller would just buy it and resell it at a more expensive price.

When Taimini dyes were released electro dyes went down to more appropriate prices. Coincidence? I think not. More precursors (I disagree about the non-trading post part of his post) would lower the price so you’d need fewer gems to purchase them.

More of an item basically helps keep the resellers in check so a legitimate purchaser has a better chance of buying (and actually using) the item.

I was not suggesting that they ever would remove the real money trading post, nor would I even think that’s a possibility.

They cannot just go increasing drop rates as long as there’s a real money auction house. It’s simply a matter of math.

The real money AH is the reason the drops are so low. Try using logic to problem solve why this is.

I’d argue you misunderstand GW2 in a fundamental way if you think weapons are strictly tied to Condi or power.

Mesmer scepter is very much a condi weapon but I can easily use it in a power set up just to have the block and clone generation.

GS on mesmer is a Power weapon yet works great in a condi PU set up.

Utility is all that matters on skills.

I would literally quit the game the day they messed with Condi or power.

Outfits instead of armor skins

This is not an I hate outfits thread. This thread is about Anet’s poor move of removing armor from the gem store. Unless they are going to move these within the game where a merchant will sell them to you I don’t understand the reasoning. We have an influx of new players and I don’t see the logic in removing skin choices for them. I mean it’s not like we will be getting any new gem armors to replace them. Why limit player’s chance to be creative with armor mixing and matching?

WTF you already told me you understand the reasoning! You said earlier that you understand they’re making the skins more rare to help boost the sales when they do become available again.

YET, here you are saying you dont understand the reasoning! Mind blowing.

I’ll tell you again.

Here we go. The sales of these items has dropped. Anet believe that by removing them and creating a false scarcity that it will help boost the sales of these items when they do come back up for purchase at a later date.

I’m aware of the concept. That your conditioned to accept it speaks volumes about you, Godofmoney. Creating false scarcity is a predatory business practice. If Anet want to make money they should do it with the quality of their products not these marketing gimmicks.

I guess I just understand how much it costs to pay a mortgage in Seattle, healthcare, transportation, etc. I don’t blame a business for trying to make money.

I could argue that Apple inc. does poor business by making they’re products with proprietary ports, yearly updates and overpriced hardware. But you know what I do instead of complaining on forums? I don’t buy apple products.

I’m sure you’ve learned to suck it up but the issue is not bad marketing strategy. The issue is limiting armor choices especially now that we have an influx of new players. Seems like a bad idea.

Did you just miss the entire point?

It creates scarcity, therefore when people have the opportunity to buy it they’re more likely to buy it. A simple bit of math showing the declining sales on a bell curve would indicate that it’s in ANETs best interest to now limit the availability of the skins in hopes of boosting overall sales.

It’s math. The fact that you can’t understand a concept like this speaks volumes.

2 things I’ll say about this as a long time pc gamer 20+ years.

Gw2 is not even close to p2w thankfully. The Anet dev’s seem very very conscious of infuriating the player base by doing any type of p2w model. Gw2 is in fact one of the best “deals” in all of pc gaming next to SMITES 30$ god pack.

The other thing I’ll say is that some games like Heroes and Gererals, World of tanks, Mechwarrior online are pretty much p2w games. The reason for this (from a rational perspective) is that the player bases are smaller and more niche. They need to generate higher levels of revenue per player to pay their staff. That being said I do find certain parts of that business model gross.

The last thing I’ll say is that if you actually think GW2 even approaches p2w you are not a very experienced pc gamer. I’m a real neck beard sorta fellow and i’ve tried every “f2p” game under the sun. Gw2 is a very very good value considering you really dont need to ever actually buy anything.

In a game like Heroes and generals or Mechwarrior online you can easily spend 200$+ just getting your accounted moderately kitted out. Easily.

They’re as many types of guilds as there are types of people.

Ive been in military style guilds with a leader who demands respect.
Ive been in sarcastic guilds full of teenage boys.
Ive been in a racist guild where everyone desperately tried to ignore the leaders racism.
I’ve been in guilds that run schedules and the leaders work hard.
I’ve been in guilds that are casual and just have pickup groups.
Ive’ been in guilds that have 250+ people in team speak.
I’ve been in guilds where nobody will ever enter team speak.
I’ve been in guilds that are full of mean smart people.
I’ve been in guilds full of friendly dumb people.

The problem I’ve finally figured out all these years of guilds later……..do you research before entering a guild. Also do a trial period. Not a trial period for the guilds behalf. Do a trial period on your behalf to test them out. Be willing to leave if you’re not happy.

A few months of pc gaming and you’ve done it tried all the guilds eh? Funny it took me 10 years and dozens of guilds to get perspective.

Well at least your opinion isn’t definitive huh?

yesterday i got a hoard chest from teq, and the day before that i got an exotic, and the day before that i got, well a spoon. what will i get today? who knows, but more to the point who cares? its the same thing every day and no matter how well i do or how lucky my drops it will be the same thing every day. the only sense of progress in this game is unlocking new skins

gw2 suffers from a distinct lack of any kind of progress, i do not feel myself getting more powerful or unlocking new abilities and what skills it does have all level up too quickly or are almost identical to eachother

Well, the way GW2 is designed drops are meaningless to farm. There’s barely any “targeted” drops to be had in the entire game.

The only progress you’re going to get is from crafting. Period end of story. I to hate hate hate crafting, but that’s your choice. Craft or never get new things.

Diablo 3 had this exact problem too at launch because of the trading post. The drops rates must be stupidly low to support a multi server/gem conversion style of market.

Diablo 3 now has amazing drop rates because they removed the real life money trading post.

Gw2 will probably never remove the real money trading post. So your options are to get into crafting like i forced myself to (still hate it though) or get used to never improving your character unless you get extremely lucky drops.

Sorry but that’s the truth.

Avatar of Melandru can be very useful in some situations. I would not recommend using it over standard profession elites unless you are an ele though.

Or thief when you’r fighting a champion who’s immune to crowd control or need greater crowd control access with the roots. Basilisk venom just doesn’t last long enough.

See these are what i am talking about. So if your thief going syvari is a bonus over other characters because of the long immobilize. I have read that engi elites are terrible also you get toolbelt skills based on those skills so racial actually makes a difference. I have heard that norm necromancer basically give the necro an escape that the just don’t have in their elite list.

So with that said does anyone know any more combinations on race class that do matter, because based on what people say it can make a big difference.

O.O huh? Where are these people that think the racial skills “make a big difference”? Are these the “everyone on the streets is saying” people that Fox news brings up all the time?

I don’t think Ive touched a racial skill since launch week. The dev’s certainly haven’t either.

Does GW2 feel unrewarding for anyone else?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Godmoney.2048

Godmoney.2048

The reason is that with a gem to gold conversion the dev’s must make the drop rates stupidly low.

Diablo 3 had this exact problem before getting rid of the Auction House. They have to make the drop rates painfully so that the TP can be combined between all servers. Otherwise the markets would have tons of items and nobody would ever buy gems.

Essentially wealthier people drive up the prices because they can afford to just throw cash at the screen. I had one guildy who would regularly throw a few hundred dollars at Gw2 because he worked for a medical supply company (he told me how they overcharge for everything.)

Honestly you should just play Diablo 3 if you want to actually get good drops. It ain’t happening in Gw2 unless they removed the gem conversion and gave each server their own trading post. We all know that will be a cold day in hell at this point.

Trial would be nice F2P players get only max level 20 only few crafting abilities no bank no benefits. So the point of F2P would be:
“Here check our awesome game, you can see how epic it is during this time and then you can support us by buying it and enjoy full experience of this great world”
Still its only one time payment. Not like WoW which is Pay to Play.

Still as said there is no benefit to wear outfit that show that you paid for game or be able to join pvp or other things depending on level. You will get max level anyway. These are not significant to game play or not at all.

This is truly the entitled generation isn’kitten

What answer exactly are you hoping for? Do you think Anet is going to reach out to you and offer you a refund on a 3 year old game? Do you think Anet should come over to your house and coo softly in your ear till you fall asleep?

I’m just wondering what exactly it is you’re looking for here? What could possibly be a satisfactory answer to someone posting a question like this? The game is over 3 years old.

Maybe Steam should refund me for the 150+ games I’ve never touched on my steam account? OR maybe that’s on me for buying games I didn’t end up playing? I’ll guess the later using my extreme powers of logic and reasoning.

The games you play and pay once for like Hitman, Assassins creed, etc. you play the story, end the game, enjoy (or dont touch at all). Thats it. This game is online MMO like WoW where people can play to infinity and beyond, this game still have the price like other games on your steam. That games never go free.

WOW costs 15$ a month buddy. I don’t know where you’re getting that idea from that WOW is free.

Let’s pull a calculator…..15$ a month X 36 months (3 years) = 540$

WOW is a great game. Enjoy.

Customer's Trust

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Godmoney.2048

Godmoney.2048

I guess what they’re trying to tell us as the customer is this “Don’t buy skins in the gem store because they’ll be available at some point in game.”

That’s the takeaway I get from this. I think the OP has a valid point. With all the possible awards they could have given I dont see why they had to choose those particular skins.

Also I felt that literally nothing on the rewards merchant was desirable in the least.

The way I see it you pay cash (or convert gold to gems) to get them in the store or you gamble on the possibility that they might, one day, be available another way.

Since I collect mini pets and decided at the time they were sold in the store I had no problem paying for them I don’t see why this should bother me now.

(Similarly I just found out Dragon Age Inquision, a game I paid full price for at launch, is going for 60% off on Steam. In that case I knew for a fact it would be discounted sooner or later, but knowing that and knowing what it cost at release I decided I’d rather get it than wait.)

I’m not disagreeing. I already said it simply. “Don’t buy skins with gems because sooner or later they’ll be available in game” Isn’t that the takeaway for skins like those gloves and shoulders?

It’s fine if that’s how they want to do it. Personally though I would rather be able to have at least a reasonable assumption that skins in the gem store are in fact gem store skins.

I don’t think consistency is too much to ask for.

Your bias is showing. Both of your presented options state that the article was taken down to restrain honesty.

What about the possibility that the article was not, “really, really,” good? Perhaps it was taken down for being poorly written?

Who knows, perhaps it was taken down in response to an ANet request, but the article earned removal on its own merits (or lack of same). Being critical is not only appropriate but needed. Shoddy, “journalism,” however, doesn’t contribute to finding solutions to real problems.

His bias is showing while you put quotes around “journalism” and call it shoddy?

Wow, that’s a real face palm if I’ve ever seen one.

Why is tailoring daily 3x the mats of others?

This is something that really really bothers me. I made a ascended set of light armor 6 months back or so and it was crazy expensive. I’d estimate about the same as a previous poster at 400g+

The fact that silk has been so expensive for sooooooo long is what really irks me. I have no problem with mistakes being made. I do have a problem with the mistake never being fixed.

I do think 400 gold for a light armor set is about 150g too much.

A question I've had about a official Twitch.

I see games like SMITE use fan/streamers to have a 24/7 stream full of currated streamers. All SMITE does for this is a community manager who’s job is to coordinate the Twitch Streamers. They schedule and vet the streamers to make sure they responsible for their time slot and aren’t going to cuss up a storm.

I understand that it’s a lot of work for somebody to vet streamers and keep a seemless schedule, i get that. What I don’t get is why you’d not see the value of a official stream in comparison to the 40grand you’d pay for this job.

SMITES official stream has been a great example of forward thinking and using Twitch as advertisment.

It baffles me. It just seems like bad business to let such a cheap opportunity to pass by. It’s really too late now at this point, but i would still love to hear the reasoning behind lacking such basic marketing skills in 2015.
