“Tarnished Coast” since head start!
I’ve been playing a Mesmer as my main character since beta, so I don’t say this lightly, but….
If they break the Mesmer class any further without fixing at least SOMETHING they’ve broken or simply failed to fix before, I’m out. I’m done. I won’t come back until they finally decide to do something good for this previously awesome class. I love my Mesmer, and I can’t stand to watch all this crap happen with no fixes on the horizon. I don’t even freaking PvP! Every single patch for a while now has only made things worse for me.

From what I know, the devs can find chatlogs themselves, without you providing them. I wouldn’t worry about being banned yourself.

My Norn female doesn’t look too happy, either….

I think this has been a relatively eye-opening conversation.
I’m surprised by the amount of people who are strong in the idea of an unofficial server. I am just disheartened by the lack of roleplayers that I see in public places. If anything, I remember in the development of the game that there was talk of having stages for the community to host their own plays, shows, etc. Perhaps just having more “things” to bring the community together would be what we need… Something besides the tavern-talks.
Anyway guys, thanks for the responses. While I really dislike having to wade through the inappropriate comments, It’d be worth it to hear a good idea.
On Tarnished Coast, I have:
- Attended a play in the Grove
- Been literally dragged into an RP group that I found while exploring, so I joined them for a bit
- Met a group of racist humans in Divinity’s Reach while on my Charr
- Been RP hit on by a random Norn on my tiny female Norn
- Met a wandering pack of RPing Charr in the Black Citadel
I’m sure there’s more I can’t think of at the moment.

I’m sure someone said it already (didn’t read the whole thread yet) but you realize you can filter out map chat, yes? Do you also realize that in pretty much all MMORPGs the map/general/what have you chat is the OOC chat, yes?
“Tarnished Coast” since head start!
Things seem to have calmed down a lot on Tarnished Coast, I see a lot more ads for “old” dungeons now. This is a good thing since I want to run TA all through winter break.
“Tarnished Coast” since head start!
1. My age is 20, I’m female.
2. A game’s story is extremely important to me. If I dislike the story of a game that centers around one, I can’t enjoy it.
3. I am interested in both, but if I have to choose I prefer individual characters.
4. Oddly… no. They’re not me. I see my characters as whole new people that I made edit: it’s not so much that I make them, it’s really more like I discover them in my head and put them into the game’s format. I may pilot them, but they have their own motivations, personality, etc.
5. I wish I could create/determine it myself, but I think that’s next to impossible in MMOs. I feel that in this game at least, it’s determined by the game itself. I may have choices, but they’re still pre mapped.
6. Right now, my ultimate goal for my main character is getting the TA armor. I couldn’t tell you what his is.
7. I feel that it fits pretty well. It’s something to do other than what you expect to find in an MMORPG, and it (mostly) introduces you to interesting characters that you may become very attached to. The reason I say mostly is because Trahearne. Just… Trahearne.
8. I’m fine with it. I don’t think about it, really, unless I’m helping my friend with his or just tagging along. I see it as “his story” even if I’ve made some of the same choices.
9. I can’t really connect them. Right now my highest character is 65, so that might be it. The story feels separate from the out of story game in most ways.

One more thing, my friend is a support Warrior most of the time, and he adores a healing build centered on banners. Yes, banners! You can trait them to give regen and other various boons, all of which last as long as the banners are up and you’re near them, and you can have mobile regen if you pick up the banners and run with them. This also works very well with my Mesmer, because I get a 2s boon that grants me -33% damage each time I get regen, so if there’s more than one banner down I have the boon permanently.

I’m mildly pleased to hear about the old dungeon overhaul and all that, but it would be nice if we knew what was being done about bugs that didn’t get fixed/got created for the various professions in the last major patch.
“Tarnished Coast” since head start!
You can’t “tank” in the WoW sense of “I take all the agro so you other party members can do whatever you’re doing.” Almost all mobs and bosses will either target each player at least once or use a whole crapload of AoE skills, so everyone needs to be able to survive in some way. Everyone needs to be good at dodging and avoiding damage as much as possible, and if you want you can make a more survival oriented spec with toughness, vitality, etc.

Go ahead and get the whole Winged type of armor. You’ll look totally unique.

God, this. So many times this. I used to go to LA to see what people were talking about, maybe see if that dude was doing his Sunday evening “find me to get an ecto” game, now I keep map chat off permanently. Also, I’m going to want to get my TA set over winter break, here’s hoping it’s not impossible to find any groups by then.
“Tarnished Coast” since head start!
I’m a Mesmer on Tarnished Coast, and once winter break happens for me (around Dec 13th) I’m going to want to do a lot of TA runs for the light armor set. FotM has kind of been worrying me with that, because everyone and their mother is just kinda perma running it. I’m currently 62, might be in the 70s by then. I’ve done story mode and had no issues.
“Tarnished Coast” since head start!
I understand the changes made in relation to PvP, since that’s all about being “fair and balanced” to other real people. What I DO NOT understand is why this also applied to PvE. I’m sorry, was I being unfair to mobs by actually landing stuff on them reliably? It’s not like they ever dodged my illusions or focused them anyway. I simply have a hard time hitting them now. It was almost laughable trying to get illusions to reliably spawn during the Ancient Karka event.

Also, I once used my portal to help a very large charr and very large norn get up certain places in Troll’s End. I also showed them how to do it the normal way. The poor things were really having a hard time.
“Tarnished Coast” since head start!
I’m kind of ok with all the elitists being in FotM, since I have no desire to do it myself. Maybe I’ll be able to get some ok groups for TA, aka the only dungeon I’m ever gonna farm.
“Tarnished Coast” since head start!
On my mesmer, I offer free portals to people quite often, usually the puzzles in LA. The reason for doing it in LA is that heck, most people have done them already and would just do it again for the loot. I also help with the skipping stones puzzle because some people just can’t get it, and even then I only get them to halfway. Really, I just like helping a few people.
“Tarnished Coast” since head start!
It’s possible. If you have a friend who is in that particular overflow and you’re partied with him, you could use the “join in overflow” function. Why it lets you loot, I don’t know. Oversight?
“Tarnished Coast” since head start!
That event took FOREVER. I’d be more mad if it DIDN’T give out that kind of loot. We even had to do a side event so we’d have a nearby waypoint for the twenty or so people who were dead right then, not that having most of the group dead was unusual. Overall, it was a really intense event. My hands started cramping.

I’ve known a lot of gingers (and one ginger in particular I know very well), and yes – they’re so pale, they glow in the moonlight. Also, the hair color tends more towards orange than actual red. Eye color can be green, but is more commonly blue, grey, or a mix. Most gingers have curly or wavy hair.
“Tarnished Coast” since head start!
Anytime I make any character, I base their appearance around who I think they are. A character won’t click with me unless I have an idea of them as a person, with an appearance that matches. Because of this, I have a large mix of various genders, skin colors, races, etc, although most of my characters are the gender opposite mine.

I got the standard two exotic items, plus two more exotics and two yellow rarity items. Not bad, actually – especially since my highest character is 62.

Patching skills the same way for PvP and PvE has plagued games for years. However, it’s apparent that patching classes separately is possible – just look at the recent patch notes:
- Cloak and Dagger: This skill’s damage has been reduced by 33% in PvP only.
Why not do this more often? It can’t be more obvious that certain problems that exist in PvP do not exist in PvE and vice versa, and that fixing the problem for one often breaks something in the other. I realize that class changes are currently understaffed, but this method of patching would be a HUGE improvement to quality of life, and would make this game stand very much apart from other games on the market.
“Tarnished Coast” since head start!
Honestly, I don’t understand why the recent changes were made to both PvP AND PvE. Obviously it’s possible to make changes to PvP only, as they did so with the Thief. I get why these changes would be good for PvP, but for the life of me I don’t see how it was better for PvE players at ALL. PvE is all I play, and it’s not like I was being unfair to the mobs or something!
“Tarnished Coast” since head start!
Just a note, the zerker damage nerf was confirmed as a bug.
Illusionary Berserker has not received a direct damage decrease. Instead, is seems that the damage reduction you (and I) are seeing is most likely associated this fix:
“Fixed a bug that caused many piercing, boomerang, and bouncing projectiles (those that hit more than 1 target) to continually increase in damage the more targets they hit.”
We are aware that this particular phantasm is now experiencing a significant drop in damage and are looking at getting it back to a more effective state.
Thanks for keeping the post civil and constructive!

For this character, I used the whitest skin color and pattern color possible. The pattern white is a bit whiter than the skin white, so you could use one of the more widely covering patterns.
“Tarnished Coast” since head start!
When creating a female Asura engineer character, if I try to change the glove color the game will crash. I think this is because no gloves are displayed, and when it tries to change the color it gets confused. I’ve had this bug twice in a row now. My advice for players is to leave glove color alone when creating a character.

Well, the two examples you have are the only narrow minded Sylvari I can really think of. Caithe and Faolain (nightmare court in general) both have some deep seated issues…
Almost all the other Sylvari, player character included, seem pretty accepting of things. Caithe is pretty much just a downer.

Found the set in the PvP locker, for some reason it was under the “Masquerade” icons. This set is definitely the Tribal set, though… I’m so confused.

If that’s true, I really hope they put it back in.
However – I did a lot more digging in dusty corners of the net, and it’s called Tribal (armor piece). Someone said that they thought it was in the Fireheart Rise as a karma item, but I can’t test that myself.

I feel a bit dumb making these sorts of threads, but I came across this picture with no context on it. What armor is this? I’ve never seen it before. All I know is it’s light armor.

Are you able to run post processing on your computer? From the screenshots, it looks like it’s off, and having it on might help a lot.

It means you’ve been targeted for a certain skill from the mob you’re fighting. Get ready for pain.
“Tarnished Coast” since head start!
I accidentally did this at the end of one of my (many) runs, because I forgot that when the person who started leaves, everyone else is kicked. I’m really not used to that because previous games I’ve played just pass “leader” to one of the people who are left. It very much was not on purpose, and I’d imagine most people don’t know they’ve done it.

We didn’t get enough of Cantha in Factions, right? God, I hated that city…

Sylvaris look off to the side...while other races look forward
in Sylvari
Posted by: Golgathoth.3967
I think the issue is that you’re assuming that the Sylvari are angling their body towards what they’re facing, when they aren’t. Try running forward and stopping without changing your camera view. Sylvari angle their bodies away from what they’re facing, and their heads towards it. Humans angle both their heads and their bodies towards what they’re facing.

I had an issue with my female mesmer and a particular light armor mask. I think it’s a racial bug.
“Tarnished Coast” since head start!
I’d be against that. A huge problem I’ve had in other games is finally, finally hitting cap and getting at least decent end game gear, then a month later a new expansion comes out and everything I have is obsolete. Gear treadmills were why I would quit games forever – I got tired of chasing what I can’t catch.
What I’d be all for is outward building instead of upward building. As in, you don’t get more levels/higher stats/more powerful gear, you just get more content – new areas, more gear skins, that sort of thing.
“Tarnished Coast” since head start!
Well, guess I’m selling the mats I get. Weapon skins were the most exciting part of the holiday for me, but there’s pretty much no way for me to do all that AND have school. My highest character is level 40 anyway, so I literally can’t get some of the dungeon gifts… guess I’ll just do what I was already doing in the game, only it happens to be Halloween.

I was a Thief, so…. totally saved Quinn. Didn’t really matter to Armaud that some people got poisoned (he was a lot angrier back then.) I’m glad I did, too, I keep getting burned on these “do you save one person or a village” decisions. They make it sound like saving the one person is being selfish and the village will die, but that’s bunk. I almost deleted my second Mesmer because I decided to save Astorea or whatever instead of helping the guy with his wife, and it turned out that the village would have been fine, and the guy would have still been alive. kitten

I was ok with him until I went to the Claw Island story with a friend, just to see it. So much rage on both our parts! If Trahearne is within a fifty mile radius of your story, it’s gonna be all about him. And he NEVER. SHUTS. UP. ABOUT. HIS RESEARCH. I also don’t see what’s so dang special about him, since he doesn’t seem to actually know anything useful about the undead, how to deal with them, anything like that. He just likes to sound important. What I actually cared about in that story was how (spoilers) the mentor from the Vigil stays behind to fight the undead to the death while you escape. Should have left Trahearne instead….

I’m trying a supportish build (PvE) centered around shortbows. The crit is there so I can actually hurt stuff, too. I mostly do combo finishers on auras with #2, blind enemies with #5, use Sanctuary, and buff those around me with the stealing perks. One of the things I like most with SB is the mobility and range.

I can confirm that there are two types of cosmetic change items in the gem store right now, available to random people (my friend was one of those people.) One of them lets you change hair and certain colors (not skin I think) and the other, more expensive one, is everything but race and profession. The lesser one was 250 gems I think, and the other was 350.
