The only issue I had was that I wanted everything JUST RIGHT, and often I’d take too long and get booted back to the character screen. Happened three times when I was making my Guardian. =/

I have no idea what’s up with the “overleveled engineers in the Dream” thing, but it’s getting really common. Is it botting for gold selling? I thought they removed most drops from tutorials. Is it botting to gain levels? Seems like a really weird way to do it. How are they even getting into the Dream? So many questions.
“Tarnished Coast” since head start!
I’ve seen some instances of what I’d call botting or griefing with the turrets. People like to put them in the tutorial zone, where they one shot everything. I’ve watched one for a good ten minutes, it didn’t go away and I didn’t see the owner anywhere. I’ve also seen them being used to get credit for events when the engineer is somewhere else, intentional or not. Honestly turrets should self destruct when the engi is far enough away, or after a certain period of time.

I made my female Norn the minimum height, which happens to be the maximum height for Sylvari. =p

Favorite: Sylvari. I have three. I love everything about them.
Least favorite: Asura. I deal with enough self-important scientists within my two majors, so I can’t stand these pompous little midgets. They don’t even do good science! The technobabble isn’t too far off from the research papers I’ve read though…
What’s the matter? Are you jealous of the Asura’s insufferable genius and cute widdle faces?
If they’re such geniuses, why does almost everything they make blow up, requiring me to save them on my Sylvari? =p I’ve had fewer accidents happen in three years of chemistry labs.

Half the time, the way it works is that the gold seller gets someone willing to buy, takes their money and their account info (because the buyer is easily duped, I guess), and then steals that account and uses it to keep the cycle going. In a way, buyers do get banned – when they get turned into sellers.

I’d like to have the “end shroud” button be F2 instead, since it’s not used on the necro. I do that all the time myself, bugs me to no end. I’m so used to mashing the F1-4 for my mesmer that I do it on reflex and mess up my DS. XD

Charrgirl most RP’ers will argue with each other on what rates as “role playing”, none of them can agree on it so its usually a case of each to their own, an let them get on with it. What we se here is a group just minding their own biz an doing their thing. You can bet they were being screamed at an called all sorts with demands an threats etc, so when that was ignored this sort of thread pops up.
RP is fine. There’s nothing wrong with it and you’d be a real kitten to tell people to stop. The issue here is that it’s not just RPing – it’s a form of griefing because they’re making an event they have no intention of participating in significantly harder for the people actually trying to complete it.

Thankfully on Tarnished Coast, I haven’t run into any actual jerky RPers. In fact, the ones in Divinity’s Reach are pretty fun – I decided to run around unarmored on my female Sylvari, and rather than them telling me to stop breaking immersion or something, it got some amusing RP responses.

I recently did AC for the first time on my Mesmer, and I was actually rather useful to the party. The problem is if you focus on damage done. Yes, Mesmers are capable damage dealers, but what makes you useful is your utility skills. Fighting ghost necromancers? Put down a null field. Fighting ranged mobs? Use the reflection bubble so they hurt themselves. Trying to burn down a boss? Use time warp. Someone’s dead but you can’t revive them without dying? Use illusion of life. Need to get past some mobs? Use one of a few invisibility skills, use a portal, or both.
“Tarnished Coast” since head start!
It still works. Before you even fight them, choose which you will burn down and which you will stunlock. Be careful of their “port to each other” skill. If you have a Mesmer in the group, get them to use the projectile bubble on the burn target.

Also, if this guy can play the game on a mouse and keyboard using only his head and face, I’m pretty sure people with hands can learn.
“Tarnished Coast” since head start!
Are you actually serious with this? I’ve yet to meet another gamer who has half your problems with the mouse/keyboard setup. Asking to be catered to in regards to playing a computer game with a controller is akin to me asking to be able to play console games with a mouse and keyboard. Trying to put a square peg in a round hole and vice versa will never get you perfect results.

I just did my first ever GW2 dungeon as a Mesmer – AC story mode. And holy crap, it wasn’t horrible! We didn’t die all the time! We only wiped once on the lovers! We all made a profit of about 30 silver (before selling loot!) I would definitely do it again. I realize that story mode is not as hard as explorer mode, but I’d be up for that too after seeing how story is. I’ve had much worse experiences in other games, with much harder instances. I felt useful, and even though we were almost all new to dungeons we did just fine. What exactly is so broken about dungeons? I’m not seeing it.

To be honest, I’m more bothered by the question if there are relationships between different races, than gay Sylvari couples. I’m not talking about Charr and Asura couples, this would be just too … strange. But what about Sylvari and Human? Since the Sylvari are shaped after the Humans, I imagine they could fall in love with each other, but never saw or heard in the game of it… at least I can’t remember.
Back to the original topic, I met the gay couple in the green knight storyline too, but it was so incidental, that it didn’t feel forced to me. It was just right.
(sry, about my english. the german forum is just so boring, I had to switch to the english one.)
I was wondering about the interracial possibilities, too. It would make sense to me that humans and Sylvari would be interested in each other.
(Sein Englisch sind sehr gut. Ich spreche etwas Deutsch.) =p

Well, turning off shaders makes the hair look better, but everything else looks like crap. Guess I’ll just deal with it.
“Tarnished Coast” since head start!
Messed around with some stuff, and it turns out that what does it is shaders. Turning them off took away the “oil slick” look on my hair.
“Tarnished Coast” since head start!
I wasn’t really sure where to put this, so I figured I’d go with the race. Is our hair supposed to be this amazingly shiny? I picked the color because it was a deep red, but everywhere I go it looks quite washed out due to the effect on it. Makes me sad.

Six names:
- Mesmer – Keldred. This was the name I made for my Arisen Psionist in Allods, and Mesmers are very close to Psionists. I use that name for all psychic type characters now. (Now I miss Allods. It’s too bad it’s pay to win.)
- Warrior – Canker Jaw. Sounded like a good name for a Charr warrior. =p
- Guardian – Seo Tae Kyu. I made a more Asiatic human, and this name was chosen for aesthetic reasons.
- Ranger – Dwolian. She’s a norn. Dwolian is an old English word for “to be lead astray.”
- Thief – Armaud. It just sounded good at the time, now I realize it is really close to Armand Christophe. Oops. XD
- Necromancer – Sadith. It just sounds right. Also reminds me of “sadist”.

Not sure if this has been brought up (I did a search and didn’t see anything), but aren’t we supposed to be unable to see the numbers after people’s names? As in forumname.#### with the numbers greyed out. I can see mine and everyone else’s. Thanks!

I feel the part that is more forced is that of monogamous relationships at all between the Sylvari. For an obviously curious race in its teenage years, they would NOT be settling for single partners… they’d be all over that open love hippy thing from the 70’s. Sadly, that is probably going to be more frowned upon by fans of the game than the sexual bias or lack thereof.
Sylvari don’t have an instinctual drive for reproduction, so I don’t see this happening. For them, sex is something fun you do with the person you care about most in the world. Humans are promiscuous because evolution has shaped our reproductive drive. Sleeping around more = impregnating more women/better chance of getting pregnant. Sylvari don’t have that to worry about.

“First, I don’t have a problem with gay people.” Proceeds to have problems with gay people.
If you don’t like the lore of the Sylvari, well, sorry. It’s not going to change because you’re uncomfortable. It’s been stated very openly by the developers how the Sylvari feel love deeply, broadcast their emotions, and don’t discriminate on the basis of physical form. If you were surprised by that it’s because you didn’t look them up first, which is understandable, but don’t get all buttmad about it. They aren’t throwing anything in your face. That’s just how they are.
Frankly, I didn’t know about it before I chose the race, either. It was a surprise for me, and boy was it a welcome one. This is the first MMO I’ve played that’s had this as an open reality in the lore. It’s been needed for a long time and it makes sense for the race in question. Can’t deal with open sexuality? Play some other race.

Thanks to those who cleared up whether it was just swearing that was a bannable offense or if it had to be directed at someone as an insult or otherwise hurtful intention. I probably shouldn’t have used the word “crass” to describe what I was thinking of, as I don’t actually attack people. I’m just colorful in my language at times. Obviously harassment should be bannable, I don’t disagree with that. I do, however, disagree about swearing in general being punishable.

I want a corset for my male Mesmer. Seriously. We already have gay couples in the game, why not cross dressing? I hate having my arms and legs covered all the time…

Being wont to speak my mind in chat, whether public or private, I’m wondering if they’re still banning accounts for cussing in map or other public chats. It seems a bit silly to me that they even did (do?) that, seeing as there’s a language filter that’s on by default.
Yes, I’m asking for permission to be publicly crass. =p

If you’re talking about the armor that is like a sort of… orchid dress is the only way I can describe it, that’s bought with Twilight Arbor tokens from a vendor at Lion’s Arch. I found it just today. She’s the black and purple npc at the Mists portals. Click on the second bag down, it’s the first set of armor in the list. It’s my major goal for my Mesmer.

If the tank doesn’t hold aggro over the dps then it is the dps’s fault… The dps always has the option of slowing down to keep aggro under the tank but the tank can only do so much aggro and then he is topped out.
Whaaat. Ok, so, I played a human warrior for five years on and off, and I did a LOT of freaking Heroic dungeons in wrath and cata. My “option of slowing down” was to literally TURN AROUND and stop being useful for up to twenty seconds. How the heck is tanking not the job of the tank? I’m guessing you must have played a half rate one, because my friend I play with was a tank less geared than me as a dps, and I never pulled off him.
“Tarnished Coast” since head start!
I’ve played holy trinity games, specifically the obvious one. I hated tanking, loved healing, and hardly bothered on my damage characters because, well… you never get in and everyone else can do your job, probably better. Now I can do whatever I want with my characters as long as it works. I like it a lot better. Being a straight up healer was fun – but only if the tank wasn’t a horrible failure, and that was about half the time. Put it this way: holy trinity makes you super dependent on other people do be able to do your own job half right, which causes more problems than it solves. Plus, only two of the holy trinity are “important”.

On my random and bought dye packs, I’d say at least half of them were pink shades. The one color I don’t like…

I wouldn’t mind it as long as it didn’t create that weird “duel zone” right outside a city. Maybe it wouldn’t in this game what with different mechanics, but that was kinda annoying.
“Tarnished Coast” since head start!
It would be good if there was at least a replay option for the last played story instance. My friend accidentally chose the wrong thing without looking, and it was the one he didn’t want. He had to do it anyway, and he didn’t find it fun. Occasionally I’ll accidentally skip a dialogue scene, and while I can go back and read it, it’s just not the same thing.

Most people these days do use WoW as the standard – of what to not do. Wildly successful and still getting subs? Yes. Attracting/keeping people up to present day? Not really. They’re bleeding accounts. To me, WoW is at least dying, if not dead on its feet.
“Tarnished Coast” since head start!
Big deal 2 million copies sold is there a point? SWTOR sold over 2 million copies months before it went live, sure the game flopped but 2 million copies means nothing.
I myself love GW2 and how it was /is done, although for a game to be truly successful in it’s genre it has to have appeal to the people who buy and play that genre. A games success is based more on word of mouth than anything else and like everything else in life you must learn to adapt or fail.
For a company to say we don’t care what consumers want and we’ll do what we please is business suicide.
I’m not bashing the game in any means and as I said I love GW2 and couldn’t even tell you how many hours I’ve put in since early game access, but there is a much larger number of MMO players than the old GW die hards. That is the point I am trying to make.
WoW spent its entire lifespan doing nothing but cowtowing to whatever group of people was whining the most at the time. What got created by that is a big hot mess of imbalance, unpredictability, cycles of classes being alternately overpowered and not worth playing, and PvP and PvE constantly stepping on each other’s toes in terms of skills/buffs/debuffs.
So far GW2 is literally listening to our suggestions and implementing them quickly, such as the option to leave the que for overflow permanently. The key element here is that they don’t listen to every single suggestion and implement it, or they’d end up like WoW.
“Tarnished Coast” since head start!
I played WoW on and off since the tail end of BC up to mid Cata (yes, I’m ashamed.) Every single time I quit, it was because I was tired of progressing at my own rate only to be a full patch behind every other player in terms of end game gear. It wasn’t that I was bad – I just didn’t race through the material. I finally finished my t10 set in Wrath, only to have Cata come out and render it scrap metal. This pattern just kept repeating, so I gave up on the game entirely. That, and the game just wasn’t even ok anymore.
“Tarnished Coast” since head start!
No, they don’t need to be buffed. What I would suggest is that the f1-f4 illusion shatter skills not go through CD if you don’t have any illusions up. Maybe I just need to train my reaction timing better, but I find myself often using a shatter skill before the illusion/s is up, and then I have to use one I didn’t intend. This is mostly a problem for faster/larger fights, where I’m trying to get the illusion to shatter on the enemy before it dies.

Are you kidding? That’s the whole reason I bought a staff on my necro in the first place. =p Also, I use a greatsword as my main weapon on my Mesmer.
