I don’t know why anyone complains. At this point, it is pretty obvious that the “Devs” do not see any of this. They are just churning out what they want to churn out and have hired Gaile to reduce the negative image the forum posters paint of GW2 so prospective buyers will still buy it.
“Good morrow Tyrians! Evon Gnashblade has just added new and exciting reactionary emotes to the Gem Store! Pick up a random pack of 5 for 400 gems!”
Not grateful for a lack of content, grateful for transparency. We were strung along for over a year thinking there’d be a new one, so some of us are glad they finally just killed our hopes instead of leaving them to languish.
Sad, eh?
From the interview, it seemed almost accidental that they let it slip. I wish it was voluntary transparency this one time.
Thought I’d revive this thread for Halloween and costumes/cosplay and such!
A few of mine to contribute:
Poison Ivy
Ash Ketchum
Darth Maul
That Darth Maul is perfect.
I was so hyped for a mordrem dungeon when season 2 started. I appreciate them telling us that they werent working on anything. I probably would of felt worse getting through the whole season expecting a dungeon at the end only to be disappointed.
That is the first time I have seen someone grateful for lack of content.
Yeah sure. Just bring Berserker gear. Nothing is challenging enough to need any other sort of set up.
As to the people complaining about ‘lack of content’
I remind you that you have been playing for nearly two years, and that the ‘lack of content’ is not a lack of content, its that you have finished the content.
There is more than enough content here to justify the price tag.
I’d agree with you if this wasn’t advertised as an MMO.
Oh I’m sorry was the creation of entirely new game maps, tons of new weapon skins and new armor, and a lore progression not enough for you?
GW2 is taking a different approach to content. They’re not releasing one yearly expansion, they’re releasing content gradually over the course of the year.
All you with your excessive complaints need to stop trying to milk that $60 you spent on the game 2 years ago. How many of you are buying gems more than once a year to support new content? The gem store is what funds new content. The up-front cost of the game just covered the cost of making the game we had on release.
If you can, please spend some gems every once in a while. You get a nice treat and you can be happy knowing you’re contributing to new content.
If you can’t afford buying gems, that’s okay but stop demanding new content. You’ve got a humongous game and had 2 years to play it for the low price of $60. Even cheaper if you got the game on one of the sales.
If only there was content that would make people come back and want to spend money on gems.
Because they want you to pay more money. Pretty simple.
Over 70% of veteran players (those who started playing this game at launch) have moved on to new games or reverted back to older MMOs which still dish out more content. It is only a very small group of people who are actually content with the progress of LS. Everyone knows that for an MMO to be good, it must continue to grow in the amount of content it provides. This is fact. Otherwise, it is simply a single player game with multiplayer features.
Wow. Do you have a link showing the current playerbase numbers, and who has left, who hasn’t and how often they play? I’d be very interested in seeing these numbers!
Google it.
So in other words you can’t produce a link.
@ Goose
Seeing as you removed your comment. Please look up the definition to the word ‘content’ and then determine if you think it actually applies to me. Personally I don’t think it does. Just because I’m not acting like a malcontent doesn’t mean that I am satisfied either.
Thanks. Bye.
Well, since he already left (assuming this from the “Thanks. Bye.”) can someone let him know that I deleted my comment when I realized he was not content with the game.

I wish this game was challenging enough for me to force people to look up dungeons or missions on Dulfy or Youtube.

No problem. I’m certainly happy to help people realize they are asking for solutions that won’t solve their problems in the first place. More professions in GW2 doesn’t necessarily address your concern with your satisfaction in the game.
What would?
I was actually thinking the past LS episodes were misogynistic. It seems like the writers artificially dumbed down the male leads so that the females appeared strong. It is as if they thought that female characters cannot be strong next to strong male characters. Hopefully, Leah is a better writer.
Good story …. Anet has not set the expectation that we would see new professions in GW2, especially not when players invent those expectations based on GW1 content. Therefore, it’s nonsense to complain we haven’t seen new professions in the game after 2 years its release with that premise. New professions is not the only way to ensure ‘fresh’ keeps coming to the table in GW2. That’s just lipstick on a pig.
Thanks for changing my mind. I thought the content in the game was old and stale. You have clearly and logically explained to me why I am actually having fun. Thanks mister!
Well, good thing they are keeping everything under wraps. I mean, at least when they finally release an expansion, if they ever do, they can say “Even though 70% of our player base has already left and will not return, we didn’t let them down by communicating.” By not communicating, they essentially keep from having to deal with deadlines. If we don’t know about it, we can’t get disappointed right?
So, I am going to recenter this discussion away from whether or not Guild Wars 1 has anything to do with Guild Wars 2 and say that they really need to add new professions. The only way I could continue doing dungeons or WvW was by doing it with a different profession. Well, I have gone through them all. For some people, walking around and enjoying the pixelated roses is enough. Not for me. Not for the vast majority of players. I hope they bring back Ritualists and Dervish.
Everyone, except for the absolutely tiny minority of players who are happy with the objectively lethargic output of content by ANet, agrees with you.
Good luck. I have no faith in the writing getting any better.
You know a game is in a sad state when the very idea of an expansion/serious content is seen as a “joke”.
If you actually read the reddit thread, you would easily see that the joke did not contain “serious content” with the exception of tengu as a playable race.
srsly, the only feathers I want to see in this game are the ones in my pillow.
Hold on guys… I think I may be able to decipher this one. Feathers in this person’s pillow. Is his pillow in the game somehow? Is it tied to his use of “srsly” as a substitute for “seriously?” Are they going to make an add-on which allows you to take real world objects and transfer them into the game? Nope. I am sorry guys. This sentence literally makes zero sense.
Funny how it’s a goose that says a comment about not wanting to see feathers outside a pillow makes no sense.
8)
Is that what he meant? That does not appear to be what the sentence says.

OP: From what i gather from your post, you’d have been better off saying, “Hi! I’m a new GW2 player thats played a month of GW2 and a week of FFXIV and OH BOY is FFXIV BAD, because any MMO that requires intelligence to read the help tips that show up every time a new feature is shown is HARD! and online research is beyond my skill level!”
Yup, that pretty much sums it up.
As for the comparison: Both games do both good and bad things, but FFXIV will always be the clear winner due to the sheer talent of the devs and A+ management of the game and it’s community. SE does a GREAT job of letting the community know whats coming up and addressing community concerns. Funny enough, they address the english speaking community’s concern’s when they are all Japanese. Fancy that!
I play both games. I play GW2 for the WvW, because thats really the only thing it has going for it and thats more because of the community, than ANet (Yes Anet, GW2 has become Mythic’s Warhammer Age of Reckoning Part 2). I play FFXIV to play a well managed and developed MMO with great content.
But the argument is illogical to begin with. GW2 is F2P game with starving devs, while FFXIV is a monthly sub with plenty of resources to craft awesome content. Its like comparing a Smart car to a Nissan 370Z. ROFL
You also can’t compare GW2 to WoW because of this. Nor, could you compare WoW to FFXIV, because WoW has had 10 years of development, and 7 years over FFXIV.
If you want a true comparison, try comparing TERA to GW2. Theres an argument that GW2 will win and it’ll make everyone happy.
I have heard TERA is actually pretty good. Final Fantasy XIV looks great. I will likely check it out. I have a nice chunk of harddrive where this game used to be.
Pointless thread unless you want a gem race. Call me a negative Nancy but imho 300 staff at Anet are simply justifying their jobs by rearranging the furniture.
If the miracle happened it would have to be a tailless, carbon copy of a human to not clip. Otherwise that means, work! Can’t have that.
Yeah, I would just say you should forget about this happening. ANet has said what they wanted to achieve which is dishing out LS every week with about an hours worth of content. Unless you can tie new races to the Gem Store, I would forget about it.
Just uninstall. That’s what I did. After they explicitly said that they will not be making any new dungeons because the Twilight Arbor path they did was too hard, I left. It will be hard leaving at first because you will feel like you have invested so much time and effort into this game. Of course, with that time and effort, you feel like you owe ANet a request to win you back before you make the leave. But, you should just cut the cord. Personally, I may come back if they actually add a dungeon.
Everyday you log on, the more you show them that they do not need to make a dungeon. They base their conclusions about customer satisfaction on who logs on and how often. While it may just be you trying to keep your character up to date for the eventual release of dungeons, it looks like you are having the time of your life. Logging in will perpetuate the lack of dungeons.
After I heard that Guild Wars 2 was not going to be adding any Dungeons, I uninstalled. I wish they would have told me sooner.
Regarding the PvP focus in the early game:
“This is what we’ve all been working for all this time. You know, Guild Wars, we built it from the ground up as a competitive game and of course this is the ultimate expression of that competition right here.” – Mike O’brien at the faction championship in 2006.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74HhIS-TS10 (43:10)I’d also argue that when you create a game specifically to have a high skill ceiling, you’re naturally catering to a PvP crowd.
Sadly, Anet decided to go another way after a few years, and the monetary reward for competitive play dried up. I believe they could have a caught a large chunk of the future LoL players (and the whole MOBA craze) early on if they’d handled the game differently. It’s quite ironic that their later attempt at an esport flunked magnificently, when the original came so close without them even realizing.
Anyway..As for the name, I have no doubt that it originally was strongly related to the PvP design, but over the course of many years it became connected to the game world instead. The sequel takes place in the same world. It’s only natural to use the same name.
Competitive does not mean PvP. PvP does fit in that but so does a lot of other things. It’d be like saying any game that is built with a high skill ceiling must be catering to the PvP crowd.
They are standing at an international tournament for Guild Wars when saying that line… I think it is obvious they were referring to the PvP.

This is correct. Good find. I also found this review from when Prophecies released.
“Guild Wars, even from the title alone, gives the impression that it was built from the ground up with PvP competition in mind. However, the role playing portion of the game will be a big surprise. Especially in terms of how much it has to offer.”
This shows a pretty clear understanding at the time that the game was marketed for its PvP. The reviewer is saying you will be surprised that the role playing portions of the game are good as well. There is no mention of the lore.
OP must hate Star Wars.
“What?! When I buy a movie called Star Wars, I kitten well expect to see stars fighting stars. All they do is sit in the background and twinkle!”
I know you are trying to make a joke, but in Star Wars, there WAS a Civil War going on the entire time.
Just make a Warrior. There are many portions of the game where players will not accept you unless you are a Warrior.
Man those days are over. That’s like living in the past. The only people today who won’t except you if you’re not a warrior are people who can’t adjust to a new meta.
I still come across dungeons parties where people will only accept zerker warriors.
I come across people still asking for a tank and a healer, but their information is at the very least outdated. Numbers run by someone in the Reddit community doesn’t put the warrior at near the highest damage output anymore.
Making a Warrior is still guaranteed to get you into parties. I am not saying it is right, but if you are the sort who only wants to make one profession, you should make a warrior.
It was marketed as a competitive online role-playing game. I am not saying that it didn’t later expand into becoming primarily about PvE, since that is the direction their players wanted. However, at first, it was most definitely marketed as a game which had very competitive PvP. They were going up against WoW, so they had to stand out. WoW didn’t really have an amazingly structured PvP system at the time. This left a niche for Guild Wars to fill. So they advertised themselves on this theme. They named themselves in a way that people could easily recognize it as the “guild vs. guild” game. If you think that they could have stood out by advertising itself as a MMO with a “Guild Wars” lore against WoW’s expansive story and narrative, then I don’t think you are giving the marketing department at ArenaNet enough credit.
Just make a Warrior. There are many portions of the game where players will not accept you unless you are a Warrior.
Yes it did. The original Guild Wars was focused primarily on PvP.
No, it didn’t. PvP was definitely a game type, yes, but it did not focus on it. If you missed out on it, the vast, vast majority of the game was PvE. Even when just talking about the base campaign.
The original goal behind developing Guild Wars was to make it focused primarily on PvP, it was only secondarily a PvE game. However, as time went on, they great expanded their PvE portion. So, I agree with you that it later became mostly a PvE game, but at first it was mostly about the PvP niche. That is why they named it what they named it.
It did not get its name from guild vs guild.
Yes it did. The original Guild Wars was focused primarily on PvP (AT FIRST!). To make sense of the game mode and the concept of guilds, they made an elaborate back story known as the “Guild Wars.” It was absolutely named “Guild Wars” because of the game mode. The lore was secondary to make it make sense and to give people a way to recognize which game had the specific brand of PvP they were going for.
Yeah, they ruined it once Thieves abused it in WvW. Anyhow, you used to make it amazing on Mesmer. I had a build where I used that trait that allows the Daze Shatter skill hit multiple targets. You would get massive confusion spread. Oh well.
I have seen a lot of threads discussing things that people would like to be added or changed about the game. It ranges from making conditions on par with direct damage dealers in group settings to the request for meaningful end game content such as dungeons. However, the replies are always the same. People constantly bash the individual and announce that the game is basically perfect and that nothing needs to be changed. Here is the thing though: If the game added new dungeons or made conditions better, how would that take away from you want in the game?
We have all invested a great amount of time into this game, some more than others. Some people would like to see content more geared toward their tastes. It is not enough to just dismiss them and tell them to go play another game. They have invested their time and money into this game. They are politely letting ANet know what would keep them coming back and spending more money. They are not trying to destroy your experience, they are just trying to work with ANet so that people like them won’t just move on.
I have been playing this game since launch and I am not crazy about Living Story, but I am not saying that they should stop doing that. No one is. Most people who complain about Living Story complain because they see it as a substitute for what they really want out of this game. There is no reason ANet cannot attempt to please both crowds.

Please. They were my favorite part. They literally made Laurent the coolest boss in the whole game for me. There is an amazing thrill when you go to pull and three hammer wardens come flying at you. You have to know exactly when to dodge. You also have to spike them down quick before they annihilate your team. Please bring them back. They were the reason I made my Sylvari Warrior the way I did.
Sadly they will never come back… I really liked them too.
:-( I know… a man can hope. Their spirit will live on through my warrior!

Telling pugs this has always been a real pain. Its easier to just tell them to all wait outside and solo it.
Yeah, that is why I am hoping some of them read the forums and see this, or something better that someone else comments.
If someone has a better strategy, by all means, comment with it here. I have noticed a lot of people I run Crucible of Eternity with do not know the proper way to quickly kill this boss. It is not a glitch. It is not a cheat. This is simply the best way to do it, without wasting time.
Strategy:
You only need four people for this strategy. Have one person go afk or something. I do not care, they are not invited for the boss.
Each of the four gets a corner to themselves. Each person needs to stand to the side of their corner, just out of range of where the mini golem will agro. You wait for him to run out AND stop halfway from his spawn to the Husk. When he stops, start the subversion beam and watch him run directly into the Husk and explode.
DO NOT DOUBLE SUBVERT! (This is when two players attempt to subvert the same golem at the sametime) If you do, they will not react how they should. It messes up their AI and they will not run right in. You will end up chasing him around which will agro other team member’s corners.
DO NOT RUN AROUND AND AGRO THE MINI-GOLEMS.
TL;DR: 4 people get 4 corners. Only subvert after golem finishes running out. Do not double up subvert. 5th player sits afk, out of agro.

This is how I feel anet is reacting to their players

To be clear, Anet is the female :P
I love that video.
You could just bring a set of Zerker armor with you, and leave it in your inventory of pinging purposes. Or, you could ping it from your bank before you waypoint to the dungeon. That way, you can wear what you want and they think you are wearing Zerker. Win/win.
noot really
but i myself wish for more build and gears
that post only would bring u on my block list
…i will not block u just saying
Oh, if you want to block me, that is fine. I have five level 80s and all five have Zerker armor. One of them, my guardian, also has the healing armor. Most of the time, I try and join a casual group because they are often full of pugs who will die a lot. That is when I enjoy being a healer. However, if there are no groups to join except a speed run 80 zerker group, I might bring my guardian. They have never noticed and we have always gone through just as fast as with my zerker professions. I don’t play to get a lot of money. I play because I enjoy doing dungeons. A part of keeping those dungeons fresh, since ANet refuses to add new ones, is by making different playstyles. So yeah… I try and avoid you guys, but sometimes (rarely) I will join a zerker group. As long as you aren’t actually bad, they will not notice. Anyhow… I am working on a full rampager’s gear necro that I am looking forward to trying out.

Haven’t you seen the ads? “Every two weeks, free DLC.” This is a selling point. I would rather have Expansions to be honest.
First, I stopped doing dailies. Then I stopped doing monthlies. Then I stopped crafting. Now, I am almost about to stop doing Guild Missions. This game is boring as all. I wish this game had SOMETHING going for it… but unless you like grinding (which I define as doing anything you wouldn’t normally do to get something you need to stay up to date in something you want to do) and WvW.
I completely agree. I remember doing dungeons in GW1 and always having fun. With GW2, I am just going through the motions. I use the same cookie-cutter build that every other person with the same Profession as me is running.
I really miss the level of build customization in GW1. I miss the epic dungeons. My friend and I actually dreamed of doing Mallyx, the Unyielding. That was a goal of ours. When we finally did it, we celebrated with Mead. I know that sounds corny, but we actually really enjoyed those things.
This game has no challenge to the dungeons. You just dodge at the right time and do enough damage so the rest of the team doesn’t know you aren’t contributing much. Every dungeon can be completed with cookie cutter zerker [insert profession]. The closest I got to GW2 requiring you to know your profession to succeed was Liadri… and that was only a solo fight.
Maybe one day they will come out with Guild Wars: Utopia and I can finally make a Chronomancer. Until then, I will be hoping they release the Ritualist. Of course, they may butcher that like Mesmer and it will be nothing like I remember it being.
This is so sexist toward women. I can’t believe people are trying to say that female leads would no longer be good leads if there were an equal amount of male leads. It seems these people are defending the game for necessarily having dumb male leads just so the females stand out rather than female leads who can stand on their own interesting character design. All of the female leads seem to have the exact same personality. They are all flawless/heroic/sexually ambiguous. All of the male leads have stereotypical dumb male personalities. They are either dumb brutes who don’t think before they act (Rytlock) or they are whiny idiots (Logan, Braham, Faren, Trahearne). It is fine for that to be a part of their character, but there needs to be something more about them. They are not interesting. It is about quality, not quantity. I think it is disturbing that a game that you all are saying is a landmark in feminist game design has some of the blandest and 2d female characters. It completely diminishes the achievement. I think if the female characters were more interesting, most people wouldn’t feel threatened by the request for a few more male leads. That is what we should be upset about. If there was one good character (male or female) in the game, no one would be angry, I think.
TL;DR: It is sexist to think that for female leads to be strong, they necessarily need for there to be a lack of male leads. No one would have a problem if there was a single characters (male or female) who was interesting.

This build worked for me.. cleansing signets and heals are a must. I used runes of air for speed boost, and orrian truffle soup as well.
Ty for the post — got my mini
I just did this with Goose’s build and it took a few tries to get used to it but once I got down the abilities and fight layout, it was pretty easy.
Did it with this build. Thanks Goose.
Glad I could help! :-D
