Will the Aviator Sunglasses ever come back?

I was wondering if we would ever see the Aviator Sunglasses come back. I noticed that they are not viewable in the wardrobe. What I hope did not happen was Ray-Ban sent a cease & desist letter to ANet, since they hold the exclusive rights to the trademark. If they are not coming back, any chance we could get some more stylish sunglasses than the circle ones? And I don’t mean funny shaped ones.

Healing Boon Idea

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Goose.5196

While I know the trinity is not a thing and I am not advocating for it, I would love to see so more support options. One support option I was thinking of would be like a healing boon. For purposes of this example, we could name it “Purity”

The way it would work is a lot like Might, but instead of stacking in intensity of outgoing damage, it would stack in intensity of incoming healing. This means the player with this boon would receive more healing from their own healing skill as well as any healing coming from allies. Certainly the metric would need some balancing, but it could look like this:

0.3125 * Level + 5 = Healing Power per stack (e.g. 30 at level 80)

That means, with 25 stacks of Purity, you would have +750 to Healing Power.

Unfortunately, as it is now, Healing Power only affects the amount of healing that particular character can do to himself and others. It does not increase the amount of healing that character would receive from Allies. It would be nice if a new attribute could possibly be created which is specific to receiving healing, regardless of source, or if that could be incorporated into Healing Power.

I think this sort of boon would be much appreciated in more challenging group content.

herculas, You are correct. Guild Wars 1 had Guild vs. Guild. It was a major focus of the game, and the devs wrote lore to explain it. However, the Devs failed to put it in this game. People like to say it is just lore, because for some reason, they would rather justify the Dev’s failure to put it in the game than get more content. I don’t understand it either.

This may be answered elsewhere on the forums, but you guys know how the forum search doesn’t work. Why doesn’t the Hall of Monuments Merchant work? I want to get my stuff from it. When I speak with him, and click on the dialogue option to open the merchant, the dialogue window closes and red text comes on the screen which says “Content Temporarily Disabled. [Suggestion] Revenant should Torch as MH

I just wanted to make this thread to hopefully get this idea across to the Developers, in case they hadn’t thought of it yet. If the Revenant used the Torch in the mainhand as a casting weapon, much like a scepter, but differently, I think it would be quite cool. I imagine the spirits of Legendary Mist Heroes forming out of the smoke or other sorts of things.

I always wondered if Ritualist came back, if it would get to use the torch mainhand style. I figured it could be quite interesting and make sense. Since Revenant will take a bit of the place of a Rit from what I have heard, I think it would carry over well.

With that said, it sucks – but people should still address their concerns, repeatedly. An employee is much less likely than a customer to sway the direction of supervisors – because despite that employees help make the business money, customers are the people who pay them.

praise is always nice

It’s a good game, there’s no reason not to praise it. It’s only problematic that they continue to shovel out this content that feels meaningless and stale and haven’t addressed any major concerns about the core of their game – professions, skills, weapons, etc. Yeah, dailies and stuff is nice…but what kind of metrics are the devs using to base their decisions off of this?

Since the devs aren’t likely able to make anything just because what they read here makes sense, it’s up to us – the customers and players – to make constructive threads requesting this information so they can take these huge threads, throw it in their supervisor’s face and say, “This is what they’re asking for. Let us work on that.”

Unfortunately, it seems like management got tired of employees coming up to them with request to make what forum people wanted, so they hired a person to do that in place of employees. Now, our concerns only go through those hired for forum duty. This will get even worse when only white knights are hired on as forum moderators.

I’ve noticed there is a handful of players…. (about 4-5) who do literally nothing but trash talk every single update anet adds to the game.

Worse yet there’s a handful of players who do nothing but excuse Anet’s poor choices and praise them for everything they do.

You imagine there are people like that, but you are mistaken. The majority of people I’ve seen defending Anet’s decisions are in response to absurd demands from the same short-sighted, selfish individuals who are constantly whining and claiming that they alone possess the insight to guide this game to success.

Think about it… why would people jump to defend Anet without cause? I can’t think of any good reason to explain that behavior, whereas it’s very easy to explain the opposite.

I gotta call bs. I’ve seen people defend the most ridiculous things like DR and the bad camera. Look at the new dailies criticism about needing more PVE options. The knights swooped in and eviscerated those posts out of hand.

Yep! Their bread and butter is to derail the criticisms by forcing a discussion on subjectivity vs. objectivity. It is like when you finally hit your teens and abstract reasoning hits you.

People are more likely to complains/flame than praise. You’ll see the same things at many companies profile pages on that site.

Question About Metrics

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Goose.5196

Goose.5196

It has been stated multiple times that Anet uses metrics to determine what people like in order to divide developer resources where they believe it would be most advantageous. I wanted to know however, what is taken into account with that.

I remember a Q&A that was done a long while back. A person asked when Anet was going to fix or develop better fitting armors for the Charr. Anet’s response was that it would be a waste of time to work on Charr armors because so few people play Charr. I know that I personally have no interest in playing a Charr simply because armor in general, except for the Cultural Armor, does not look good in my opinion. They never really look right. They feel stretched and just goofy. However, I like the idea of a Charr.

Let’s take this to another aspect of the game. For dungeons, the readings the metrics seem to give Anet is that making challenging dungeons is not worth it. They base this off of the reception from fans after the AC revamp (eons ago) and the Aetherblade Path. While it is true that people run these less, is it really an indication that the community does not want new dungeons? A lot of people may have been tired of AC in general. As for the Aetherblade path, you also have to consider the fact that Scarlet was a big part of that path’s theme. Although challenging, a lot of people do not consider the Aetherblade path challenging in the right way.

I just want to know how blindly Anet follows these metrics and if they take into account that lack of interest shown through numbers may be for reasons having to do with the quality of that content rather than its category.

I think one on fh the reasons it has not been a success (or seemed to have been yet)- is not everyone has worked out the tricks (eg skills/utilities) which can make this path a real doodle. The gw2dungeons.net is missing a few for sure

We recently discovered a few things which make the final two big bosses a doddle and it’s honestly a piece of cake now.

When you factor in the exploration, finding vistas locations, crafting, skill points, events, side quests, main story quests, I don’t see how one could run out of things to do in a short time. Unless of course you are one to rush to endgame and thus I could see why it could become tedious and boring if one plays that way. Personally I like finding all the little details, thats what makes a game fun to play.

There’s a difference between “rushing to end game” and “not actively wasting time”.

This guy is right. If you are into simply sitting there and smelling the flowers, go at it. After the twentieth heart quest where you do mindless errands, I got bored. I have run all of the dungeons more times than I would like to admit. I have participated in WvW. I have done PvP. That is great that you have such an affinity for the drone of this game. Just make sure you buy lots of Gems.

Mmm, I’d say the PvE only really starts to feel repetitive after maybe 3 lvl 80s of different profession. With the personal story, hearts, exploration, dungeons and maybe dabbling in some PvP I’d say you can easily get 80-100 hours or more of gameplay that is tons of fun. For $40, that’s a steal and you’ll still have access to whatever content is released later. No financial commitment or anything forcing you to log in on the clock. Anyway I look at it, it’s definitely wroth the price!

80-100 hours of gameplay is great for a single player game. What about people who bought Gems to support Anet? You know, the people who actually keep Anet afloat? The people Anet needs to keep playing? What they want doesn’t matter?

They already said they have no interest in doing any more dungeon-type content. If you want UW, you’re just gonna have to go back to GW1.

Could you read before you post? This is a discussion about how we could get them interested again.

Look at how much content they are capable of churning out each year: 4 episodes of “biweekly” LS every 6 months with maybe one half-sized map to go with that. Do you really think they’d spend what would have to be 100% of their development efforts on creating content that they’ve explicitly stated they have zero interest in working on?

Your suggestion is completely and utterly unrealistic.

Okay, I see you have some issues with reading comprehension. I already know they have stated they have zero interest. The point of this thread is to brainstorm ways in which they may become interested again in dungeons. That is fine if you think my idea won’t work, but try coming up with your own theory on how to get them interested again.

We already know it must be tied to the Gem Store somehow. That was my first premise.

There’s a difference between “rushing to end game” and “not actively wasting time”.

There’s also a difference between “actively wasting time” and “not playing way too fast.” I’m sick of seeing people on here complaining that there’s not enough content when they’re trying to get 6+ hours of entertainment from it every day. There’s just not enough game to sustain that style of play, and there never will be.

The problem is that these people think they’re obligated to keep playing for whatever reason. There’s no sub; if you’re bored, just stop playing, and come back when you want to play again. And if you never come back, so what?

So what? Anet needs people to play this game and buy gems to prosper. It would benefit them to make content that will retain players. It is cute that you think there is remotely 6 hours worth of content to do everyday after you have seen it all. Running the same dungeons over and over gets dull. World events are boring zergfests. WvW is zergfest. PvP is the same stale gameplay mode. Living Story is bare bones gameplay with a substandard plot. Don’t just wave people off like it is nothing. There are a lot of people who have spent a lot of money on this game by buying gems, to support Anet, only to see little to no content being made. I think it is great that you can be entertained by such little amounts of effort on the part of the devs. I wish farming the same events everyday and watching Living Story with worse acting and plot than The Happening entertained me. But it doesn’t.

This games is built around the living story model and was announced before the game was released. Everyone knew this before they bought the game. If you really have an issue with it, why did you buy the game in the first place?

That is simply not true at all, in fact living story as a premise didn’t come to be until October prior to the launch of the Halloween event. The game was not marketed as never going to have expansions or solely with the living story concept, in fact I don’t think they specified any direction at all at that prior to release. This is the earliest information I’ve found on LS; https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/colin-johanson-outlines-guild-wars-2-live-game-development/

This is very true. Anyone who was on board at the beginning had good reason to think that we were in for the same expansion model as Guild Wars 1. They sprung this living story crap on us after the fact.

-allow an early reset for completing all paths associated with the dungeon, thus allowing people to continuously run dungeons at their own leisure to get what they want rather than locking people out of the rewards for playing the content too much (or 3 dailies for FOTM)
-release a dungeon reward tracks akin to spvp reward tracks (imagine slowly getting to a fractal weapon skin box through this when doing the fractal dungeon rewards track)
-release a dungeon rewards booster at a competitive price, boosting magic find, tokens awarded at the end of the dungeon, and additional glory gained through the dungeon reward track after each dungeon completion

I’d buy it.

Guild Wars 2, the repetitive mmo?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Goose.5196

Every game is not repetitive. Even if life were repetitive, life and games are not equal. To answer your question joneb, it is simply easier for the developers to make people feel like they are getting a lot of content by creating an incentive for repetition. Think about it like this. If you are a developer, do you really want to make three areas of new content when you could just make one? Of course you would rather make one. However, to make players get the illusion of a lot of content, you just have to make some sore of incentive in the game which requires playing through that level multiple times. That way, people feel like they are getting a lot of content, because they are playing as much as they would with three new levels. However, it is really just empty playing, People play for the reward, not for the experience. It is basically junk food.

Okay guys, we know that the biggest obstacle for Anet in making the Underworld or Fissure of Woe is money. How can they make money from putting in that hard work? Why not bring back the old system of needing a scroll to the UW? However, we change it up. Hear me out. Instead of buying the scroll from a merchant, we would have to buy them from the Gem Store! They could be 400gems a piece. That way, they can get money for making challenging content! Also, to make sure people do it, the UW will have a chest at the end which has an extremely low chance of dropping a precursor! However, that chance will be higher than anywhere else in the game. That way, everyone will run it. I think this is a great idea! Do you guys have any other ideas on how to make an incentive for Anet?

Anet would have to make challenging content for you to be able to get these items by playing the game. Instead, they can just make you farm for it. Farming is easier for them. Some people actually view “farming” as fun. That’s cute.

Maybe it could be purchasable in the Gem Store!
