Buyer beware. There is evidence it reduces the amount of ore you get in exchange for the watchwork sprocket drops.

http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1wfp5r/watchwork_pick_looking_for_data/

even if this were true, orichalcum is only 15 copper more then a sprocket at present, if the pick yields a sprocket in place of any other ore, its profit. I have a few of these picks, and I will buy more.

Well, yeah. The opinions of others have influenced my decision. They made me realize that the expansion is just a bit overpriced in terms of the content that’s actually going to be in it. I regret pre-paying for it. I may still buy it after release, but I feel stupid for pre-paying.

Never feel stupid for what you have done, there are no mistakes. Everything you do, no matter how unpleasant the outcome is necessary to learn the lessons you have chosen to learn.

If your satisfaction can be invalidated by the expressed opinions of others, you have larger problems.

At first I was excited to learn I woud get the core game for free, if I bought the HoT expansion. but then I realized Veteran players were treated so much better then new players.

Veterans are going to know where all the best farming spots are, where all the bag farm spawn locations are, I wont even be able to get a single hit in because they have commander tags and can summon minions to scale up events for them.

Veteran players will have so many more achievement points then I will, they will get so much more free rewards, they even get birthday gifts. I wont get the gifts they get for three years, and by then they will be getting even better gifts.

Wvteran players are already going to have 5 level 80 characters, they can do events with every day, they will have so much game-currency earning potential then I will as a new player. It will take me 3 years to get to the point the veteran players are at today, and by then they will be 6 year veterans!

Veteran players are going to obliterate me in pvp because they know the maps better, the meta builds and strategies, team compositions. In wvw they will have all the social connections to form the best riot squads, the best zergs.

Oh, how I wish this game was fair to new players, but as it stands new players dont have a chance to compete with veterans.

Veterans will look so much cooler then I will. I really like the Aetherized weapon skins, they are so steampunk awesome, but they were around during Scarlet’s invasion when they were offered for a single ticket, now the Aetherized staff skin costs more on the trading post then the Bifrost!!! Such injustice!! I want a free bifrost for being a new player! I want access to all the previously available skins at the same price these most fortunate veteran players had. I want those cool black feather wings that were only on sale for a single day in March. I want bunny ears.

All I want is for new players to be treated with a tiny bit of what anet has treated these veterans with, is that too much to ask?

They arent forcing you to pre order it. They are providing you an opportunity to preorder it, for whatever reason you want to. if you want to pay for it in advance as some personal display of faith, fine. htere is probably a metric analysis of consumer behavior that indicates there are people who will do just that, and so the chance to pre order exists.

I highly doubt people are buying gems just to show their appreciation for a job well done. Anet isnt some hot waitress you tip $20 because she had a great set of teeth.

I doubt it, because lets be honest, you want your money back because you are feeding into the drama and entitlement from the veterans who think they are getting burned because anet is offering new players an incentive to come into a game that has been running for 3 years.

I mean, you had to know what you were paying for, it was all laid out before you in plain text, you read it, you were excited for it, you bought it. Then your guild chat, and your map chat began to fill up with hate, and you let other people make your decisions for you, and now you want to hang out with the cool kids who just want to hate everything.

they arent running off with anything of yours, you ran to them and threw your money at them. they are still there in the same spot, they arent moving, and the money is theirs now.

So basically, you want to run away with their money.

Soda may not have been the best example as most know that soda is ridiculously cheap. The containers are where the costs lie. The cost of the soda itself is in the neighborhood of 1 cent per 12oz.

thats the point. Gw2 at $50 is cheap.

Wanting more from anet because you are a veteran is what this thread aims to point out as fallacy.

The reward for being a veteran is that you are a veteran. Every single new player who gets the sweet deal will be far behind you in terms of knowledge of the game, what sells, where to find the best gear, how to win the bag farm competitions, etc. Veteran players are the ones who have the sweet skins. Veterans are so far ahead of new players that anet would have to entice people with a sweet deal to ever come and play. When I started wow I had to pay for the core game, which was bundled with the first expansion, then I had to pay for the latest expansion, then I had to pay a sub fee. Every few years I had to pay more money for expansions that trivialized all content released to that point, and I did it. Did the same for SWToR. Guild wars doesent do this.

As for the content not being worth $50, if I might diverge from the topic of entitlement: we dont even know what the content will be. SwTor sold an expansion a couple months ago that added 2 new zones, 2 raids, 4 dungeons, trivialized all the other content in the game by raising the level cap and gear ratings, and now sits in a spot where there is pretty much nothing to do.

Guild Wars 2 is basically redesigning the whole game.

Exactly. It’s not a question of cost so much as a question of what exactly are we buying. Again, it’s such a simple fix: just show us the updated map.

We’ll pretty much know what we’re getting then, I think.

Is that all its gonna take? A map?

What do you suppose the reaction will be if the map is indeed unveiled to use the entire grid of uncharted land on the map, the rest of Maguma, Cantha, and Elona?

Do you think the debate would rest, and the community unanimously agree that it was surely worth a 50 sheet?

What if they threw 2 new character slots?

This is a community that decided it was appropriate to get up in arms about an april fools day joke that had our characters making airplane noises, and this was somehow bad because a single plane somewhere on the planet just happened to crash ‘recently’.

There is no pleasing people, and no matter what you give them, they will find something to complain about. Me? I complain about people complaining.

Ignoring the fact that $100,000 is 2000 players worth of expansion sales and the aformentioned thread had no where near that much participation,

it could be 100,000 opinions, you are still short a few million opinions to have a reliable sample to make a relevant argument. It takes a certain type of personality to even participate in a forum to begin with. Dont pretend you dont know what I am getting at.

This is the worse excuse in any topic that always keeps popping up again.. It’s just a vocal minority… Yes forums are a minority but they are also a sample of your player base. For every person who say x on the forum, there might be 1000 people feeling the same way. While it’s likely not a perfect representation of the player-base it for sure is something you as company should look at, ignoring it with excuses as ’it’s just a vocal minority’ is closing your eyes for problems what is the worse you can do.

its not just the 1000 people, its who the 1000 people are, and the personality traits that are common among them such that they would engage in a debate with so much unbridled juvenile emotion.

If video game forum participants could ever be considered as a reliable source of the sentiments of the consumer/player base they would have to be observed as a group of people who were evenly divided about their feelings about the game, and we know this isnt true. Look on any forum, any publisher, any game, any year, any genre… whatever. You will find the same thing, regardless of the quality of the game and your own personal feelings on it: 9 rage threads for every thread of praise. And in each thread of rage there would be 20 +1’s, upvotes, ikr’s’, et cetera, ad nauseum. Look even closer and patterns emerge, and the same nay-sayers invade the priase threads talking about ‘fanboys’ Every thread about how great something is buried under more hate.

I am not saying that every forum participant is a whiner, but what else is a whiner going to do? A forum is going to have a smaller number of the gamers happy about the game participating in the discussions then it will the whiners. If someone is happy about the game, they play it. A whiner has to whine. After map chat gets old, they need to whine to anyone who will listen (or read). Mommy doesent care, so take it to the forums.

Take this thread for example. It wasnt enough to have that discussion on reddit, someone had to come here to forum-en.guildwars2 and solicit that thread for more upvotes.

The main issue is that people that pre-purchased the core before it was officially released now have to pay full price twice if they want to support the developers for the expansion when a new player gets both for one single purchase price.

That is a matter of perspective, and from that angle, a bit self defeating.

We paid once, three years ago. We pay for the expansion now, it costs $50, which is a common enough price point.

Do new players get a better deal? Sort of. They dont have to pay for the expansion, it comes free with the core game. Would it have made a difference if it were worded that way? Would we prefer that new players had to buy the core, and the expansion seperately for $110? What if they got a bundle deal? Would we demand a discount because of the $60 we paid for core?

Here is another perspective:

If I am going to be a new player in your game that has been out for 3 years, you had better be prepared to make it worth my time, because the idea of being dropped into a game surrounded by people who have been here for three years, trampling me underfoot, berating me for all my ‘noob’ questions, looking cooler than me, being more powerful then me isnt really going to bring me to the door.

And think about it, we want these new players. We need these new players. If giving them a sweet deal on a free core game is what it takes, thats what it takes.

All the same, Im gonna look awesome next to these noobs who saved a 50 sheet on the core experience. They didnt experience what I experienced…

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Greymelken.1892

It is a matter of perspective.

Not once has Anet said you have to buy this now even though we havent given you much details on it. They are simply providing us with the opportunity to pay for the product in advance, to get it out of the way, to budget for it if that is an issue. they are offering us bonus items for our commitment, bonus items which from my perspective are junk, but I appreciate that others would want them even if I dont understand why.

The pre order results will turn into projections and will fund the project, including promotion for it. If the preorder goes well enough there will be more magazine drops, more articles, more media exposure et cetera because Anet will be able to afford it, using revenue generation to finance even more revenue generation which will finance further developement.

I wasnt going to preorder, after all this debate: Im going to. From my perspective, Anet deserves their money in advance, and I am positive I will not be disappointed

I don’t think anyone’s arguing that the time spent in GW2 wasn’t worth the $50 we spent on it. On the contrary. The problem is, all of that has been devalued to $0.

How do you figure?

Because they’re throwing a bone to lure in new players who would balk at paying two box prices? I honestly don’t care one bit about the “deal” someone else gets. I don’t think it’s “unfair” or “screwing me.” I’m worried about me, and me alone.

Was GW2 worth the $50 I paid for it? Absolutely.

Will HoT be worth $50? I have no effin’ clue, and I’m not giving them one dime until I know for sure.

I wont be preordering, its a silly concept and I dont want to be a statistic in their marketing game because they are a part of the Capitalist Beast, but I will pay for the xpack when it comes out, I decided that the moment I heard the first whispers of it comming, long before I knew the price. I like GW2. I will pay the $50 no problem. I appreciate the game enough.

I bet most of the people crying over this issue will buy it too, they are too heavily invested into to quit now, (and im not even talking about $$) if they werent, they wouldnt have spent this much energy discussing it.

I will see every last one of you in HoT.

Ignoring the fact that $100,000 is 2000 players worth of expansion sales and the aformentioned thread had no where near that much participation, and remembering the reported sales after 1 year of the core game was 3.5 milion, your 2000 players amounts to 5%. If we lose 5% of our games playerbase, we will easily make up for that in new players excited about the game.

The opinions of people who frequent reddit, these forums, or forums in general about any game are hardly a reliable sample of the playerbase as a whole, if there are indeed 2000 people involved in this lamentatious debate, you are still short afew million opinions. Do the science:

For every one of you lamenting the injustices of this topic, there are enough people who dont care that make your sample demograph completely irrelevant, and the sooner you realize this fundamental truth about this topic, and any topic like it among forum-goers, the easier it will be on yourself: The people who enjoy the game, are looking forward to the xpansion are too busy enjoying the game and looking forward to the expansion to bother posting on a forum about how much they enjoy the game and are looking forward to the expansion.

Across all characters, I have played for 1374 hours and 50 minutes over the past 1021 days. I paid $60 for the base game.

4 cents an hour. That how much of my money Anet has taken while I played their game.

You might think that is excessive, I some of you reading this have played more. Much, much more. After you have judged me, for a moment, lets say I only played for 1 hour on friday and saturday. Thats 21 cents per hour.

There is NOTHING I can do with 4 cents. I would need 50 times that just to enjoy a Soda. For the price of a soda, I: “Veteran Player” – could have enjoyed 20 hours of Guild Wars 2.

How my 4 cents an hour pays for this opportunity to escape each day to a persistant living online world is beyond the scope of my imagination, its just one of those things I am going to have to take for granted because trying to wrap my head around it hurts worse then trying to wrap my head around the idea that I, “Veteran Player” am somehow entitled to more then a new player, because 3 years ago I shelled out $50. I lose that much money a year in my couch. I find that much money a year on the ground. Last week I found a quarter stuck to the bottom of my shoe. Thats like 6 and a half hours of GW2 paid for.

Anet owes me NOTHING. in fact, laid out like this… yea, I pretty much owe Anet. if I have to pay $50 today to uninstall GW2 that would bring the cost of my entertainment up to 11 cents an hour. We can go back and do more Soda math, or you can get the point. In case you didnt:

If HoT adds absolutely nothing to the game, I will have gotten my money’s worth. So have you, “Veteran Player”.

If you know of a game that has a 100% success rate at preventing gold sellers please do say what it is. I’m sure Anet (and most other MMO companies) would love to find out how they do it.

Cryptic Studios will flat out ban you for even mentioning the name of a gold seller in any one of their games, whether you are the one selling the gold, or talking about the gold seller.

I get los’ing and I get stacking to a point, but to tell me the game was meant to be played by luring a mob into a corner so that each of us can stand on exactly the same spot and be able to dodge roll into the wall so our position on the stack does not change is more then immersion breaking, it reaks of exploiting. – Its one thing to have a player with a ranged weapon to leave the group and pull a mob to a more strategic position, and to have the players maintain a certain distance from one another to benefit from buffs, but it is another thing entirely to have every person on the map do the whole run occupying the exact same coordinates for every pull and to look at the screen and not get the sense that you and 4 other people were there, and not some crazy mess of something with 10 arms and legs, swinging 5 weapons, to say nothing about the camera positioning disabling any visual indication you might have that you were engaged in a battle with something.

Last time I was in a dungeon we were using this tactic in a hallway, and there was no way to position the camera so I could see what was happening. This went on for the whole run, and all I could see for the majority of the time between running away from everything that wasnt absolutely necessary to complete the dungeon was the camera spazzing out clipping through textures. It didnt even look like a video game. It wasnt fun at all, and I refuse to believe this method of play was intended, but I can accept that the design has created this evolution of gameplay.

To me, you sounded elitest as soon as you said ‘Meta’ – the idea that there is only one way to play takes the fun out of gaming. Those two things should never be seperated, unless you are in some sort of gold-farming prison camp.

If Anet intended the game to only be played one way, we wouldnt have class diversity.

How are the scammers getting my information?

I dont share the fact that a particular email address is associated to my guidwars account, so how am I being targetted everyday with scam emails?

What is really concerning is that I stopped playing the game for about 6 months, and the emails stopped, but immediately began again when I logged into guildwars.

I have no viruses, and even if I did I cant imagine why they would be made purposefully to phish for my guildwars credentials, while I play so many other games, have paypal and bank accounts, et cetera.

I am not confident my information is secure with arenanet.

Daily Combo Killer - not working

The actual issue is that not every combo skill seems to work at this point.
In fact, it seems only -aggressive- combo fields function so far. That’s to say, any field of water elementalists, or chaos armour, or cleansing bolts etc. do not function as of yet.
Uncertain if this is intentional or not.

I am a mesmer, only using Chaos Armor/Ethereal Field combos. I got 10/10 as a by-product of normal gameplay in much less then an hour. – Seek out players to fight with, utilize the opportunities they provide you, and provide them with your own, its that simple.

I often target friends with ethereal field just so I can jump out of it to give them Chaos armor, I slot 3 fields, and have 3 triggers for them, the uptime on my Chaos armor is quite high.

Zone chat is filled with people complaining that they cant get it done, and they are trying everything,

I havent changed the way I play. I put out well placed combo fileds, I trick trough other combo fields I see. I seek out other people to play with, even if only for a kill or 2.

I have 100%, as a by-product of playing the game naturally.

a) Stop trying
b) Learn how to use your combos.

I am in a 45 zone and people are still asking: What are the combos for my Gaurdian? Look at your skillbar, I cant tell you what your combos are!!! lol.

Hear me?

Its a shame I have to eliminate all the voices in the game because I cant go anywhere (especially trading posts and crafting stations) without this spam driving me crazy. I know people spent considerable time and resources making the voices and flavor dialog for this game, too bad I wont be enjoying any of it. Even if it gets fixed, I wont know about it, because I will be muted.
