I see some interesting possibility to introduced them one after the other when introducing fights with different dragons. I expect the stone dwarfs to rejoin the rest of Tyria with Primordius’ return, the Largos will join in when the DSD desides to show up and The Tengu are just a good possibility in general.

There can be vast difference – are you a game develper to say that a mdps-focused class can ONLY be as thief? Other games achieved that, are you saying GW2 developers are inferior somehow and they cannot come up with another mdps-oriented class concept? I don’t think so.

I want a non-tank class that is more mdps focused. I don’t really care if its monk – i just thought that monk has interesting enough background to fill that spot.

Either READ what i write before arguing with me or we cannot have ANY sort of conversation. You’re cherry picking part of what i say and twisting them.

Elementalist and Necromancers are BOTH ranged classes – in your logic they are the just another version of one another – and this is NOT true. The same way saying that i jsut want another version of a thief is not true. When did Thief = mdps became an axiom ?

thief = stealth. Stealth is pretty much what defines a thief, sneakiness, poison, “piercing” attacks and so on. Again you cannot remove the main defining feature of a class and say some other class is that class without it. There is an old joke about the Chukchi people that has something like it, i will not retell it all but basically when asked a Chukcha described an elephant as “like a deer but without antlers, much bigger and with longer nose”. You are doing pretty much the same …

I just want another non-tank mdps focused class – THAT’s it.

Half the skills and the professions mechanics in GW2 can be seen in other MMO’s – it is inevitable but there is nothing wrong with it. And come on, are you really stating that some professions don’t fit some archtypes we know?
Of course they do – you have certain professions that are better than others in being a tank, stealth dps, Rdps aoe-er and so on.

And how many times do i need to state it – guardian has 2 main descriptions – toughness and hitting like noodle. I want a non-tank class that is more mdps focused. I don’t really care if its monk – i just thought that monk has interesting enough background to fill that spot. A faith based mechanic is and interesting thought as well.

So stating i want a medium armored guardian is like stating i want a non-ferari italian car if i wanted a fiat…

I have played 4 or 5 MMO’s before GW2 and countless other games and class balance has little to do with race or anything similar. For EVERY multiplayer game that has difference classes/playable factions / cars, no matter if its a RTS, car simulator, RPG, FPS or anything else balance IS the key. So stating that other games “don’t focus so much on the aspect of balance as GW2 does” is a wrong statement in my book. They do – the difference is the varrying degree of success each developer team has.

GW2 has its class balance issues – thief’s “perma-invisibility” spec, guardian’s “i will outlive even the apocalypse” spec, elementalists “i can run is circles around the entire map and you cannot catch me” spec. I am eagerly awaiting to see how these are gonan be addressed. So far the dev’s record has been exemplary.

Anyway i think we strayed quite away from the main topic.

Quoting myself looks silly so i will just try explain it another way. A monk according to me is NOT a dedicated healer and i have NEVER stated anywhere that. I said on numerous occasions that i foresee a possible return of the monk as a mdps-focused non-tank.

Currently 1 archtype familiar from to many of us from other games (i personally played warhammer age of reckoning before GW2) is the non-stealth mpds-er. In warhammer we had Slayers and Choppas – they were loads of fun to play with their characteristics being increasing dps with increasing squishiness. The problem with such archtype was that it can become OP in the hands of the more organized guilds, because if such a class can be protected enough it can dish out really remarkable amounts of dps. Implementation of such a class is a very tricky matter from a developer point of view.

I am pretty confident that other MMO’s have classes that belong to the same archtype as well.

I am rather unhappy with the current sutiation of the Thief being the only true-nontank mdps class.

What is this crusade of yours to prove to the world that the “monk” has no place in GW2? You hate the class so much? All i am saying is that i think it will be a lot of fun to have that class back + its can be done by altering his role a bit from what it was in GW1 + its doable lore-wise.

The post in the trivia says nothing more than what i said 2 posts above – guardian gets pieces of paragon and monk(+ some more ). I believe there is plenty more to work with if either of those professions make a comeback. Far less for the paragon considering it used to be a heavy armored group buff class. Although there is the possibility of introducing a spear/polearm wielding class that lorewise will be what is left of the former sunspears, helped somehow by Kormir. I always found the thought that Kormir will just stand and watch the sunspears get destroyed a bit far-fetched.

Truth to be told monk has been one of the favorite gimmick’s of GW1 for many ppl.

And they still hit like wet noodles…

And i do not see the word “monk” in the background quoted by maddoctor. I do see the word paragon though. So if we want to be correct lore-wise we can say that the guardian is based on the paragon with upgrades from “other traditions”, witch of course include monk.

The point about there being only 2 soldier classes and 3 adventures is valid although i would like to point out that engineer and the ranger are far more specialized in ranged combat, while the thief is the only medium armored melee-dmg-focused profession. Something i find both good (strong mdps classes can be very OP) and bad (if one want so play mdps he is forced to either choose a tank that does more dmg or to go thief). Not to mention thieves are a bit OP in 1v1 combat exactly due to lack of any other class that offers their high dps without being very flimsy (talking about light armored classes)

Where is it stated that monks developed into guardians? Yes, guardians share few skills with monks from GW1 but one can argue that guardians are equally similar to paragons. You misrepresented my vision for the monk class though. What i meant for the the role of a what a monk should be is: a medium armor wearing class that relies on dmg reduction abilities charged by using certain abilities that grant him “holy fury” in example. Basically if the defensive skills of the monks went to the guardians why not combine their former offensive one’s with some other skills to turn them into melee self-healing debuffers (blinding ppl wiht “holy light”, adding confusion, weakness). Basically something in between the current skillsets of a guardian(but with more offence, less groupbuffs and more debuffs) and a necromancer (tougher in melee, no poisons, more focused on confusion and blinds + melee selfheal).

As for lore – the current distress(flame and frost) leads to the monks being forced to abandon their remote monasteries and rejoin the populace of tyria. The fall of Zaitan is a part of an ancient prophecy says that once one of the elder dragons dies the others will follow. And the monks are determined to see this prophecy fulfilled.

As for Elona – i expect we will see it again after some time but i don’t expect this to happen this year. Fighting some more undead (Palawa Joko) is the last thing the game needs atm. Lets have some other bad guys.

uniqueness of dwarfs

lolololololololololololol

Sorry but, dwarves are unique? xD

Besides, asura aren’t meant to fill in for dwarves. They’re just another subterranean race and tbh, dwarves weren’t that subterranean compared to other fantasy settings anyways. If any race is meant to fill in for dwarves, it’d be norn. But even then they’re not fill-ins. Just as sylvari aren’t fill-ins for elves.

monk […] making a glorious comeback (the general feeling is that monk class is a must)

However, Monk will never ever happen. Why? Because Guardians were made to replace monks, and the game doesn’t support the concept of a dedicated healer. Dervish is unlikely to return due to lore reasons as well (dervishes, by nature, are followers of the gods – Guardians are the closest thing you’ll get, via being magic powered by faith; you’ll never see a charr dervish).

I meant dwarfs in general – they are unique, no matter in what game / book – they always enjoy drinking, fighting, mining, swearing and shinies.

As for monk – the whole things about tattoo armor was quite unique to GW1 and quite interesting. I believe monk can make an appearance as a more mpds-oriented class. Some type of faith based berserker. Guardians were meant and are the ultimate punchbags – something monks were never meant to be. So i do believe there is still place for them ingame.

Destroyer Weapons

in Lore

Posted by: Grezko.7950

Grezko.7950

Back in GW1, Destroyers were often shown wielding Destroyer weapons (which look almost identical to their GW2 models). Balthus Coalforge and game economics aside, I see no reason lore-wise why a player could not simply pick up one of these weapons and start wielding it. Given that Destroyers “cool” after their deaths (a phenomenon not usually seen in GW2 Destroyers), perhaps what Balthus did was specially enchant the Destroyer Weapons so they retain their heat and power even after their original wielder’s death.

One can argue that if you pick up a weapon that a destroyer used, the wielder will become exposed to dragon corruption. Especially considering that destroyers (and their weapons) are created from earth and fire by the sheer will of Primordius. In other words – such weapons need to be either “crafted” using a complicated process (Balthor Coalforge) or de-corrupted somehow. If not the wielder will get exposed to dragon corruption witch we know can only end in bad ways.

My prediction is for Primordius and the dwarfs(now in stone) to make an appearance again. This “disturbance” we see i think is him launching his armies once again. As far as i know Jormag has not been active at all in Ascalon so far. But we can see destroyers both in Norn and in Char lands. Return of dwarfs will be a nice touch – dwarfs have a huge fanbase and tbh asura do not even get close to covering the uniqueness of dwarfs. In many aspects they are the exact opposite of the dwarfs – calculating, always sober thinking and rellying not on personal strength but on the strength of their inventions. There are some commonalities but for the dwarf fanbase those are not enough.

As for what is to come – i expect a rather big patch coming with tengu as race and monk and maybe dervicher classes making a glorious comeback (the general feeling is that monk class is a must)

With all the respect for your country’s culture, Ascalon is more closely modeled after a European feudal system. And yes some times even in european feudal systems the lineage of the mother takes priority but in most of those cases(if not all) this affects only royal houses (the English crown being a prime example). The most common situation is when a woman marries he children assume the title of their father. There are some exceptions to this rule of course.

I see no hints of Ascalon using a feudal system. They have nobels owning estates and the land around it, but the people working their seem to be employees rather than vassals.
Also Tyria is very open in terms of gender equality (only some evil factions do not have it), so I would asume it’s like with a family name today (atleast here in germany), the child will use the father’s lastname/crest or a mix of the father’s and mother’s lastname/crest.

My apologies i meant classed or tiered or medieval system i am not exactly sure about the correct term to be applied.

Who said family crest can only be pass down by the male line. This were you a wrong, the formation of a noble house are usually boom granted by the king or queen which intent create this. Where I come from in west Africa (Ghana) the Akan tribe take the mother line instead of the father line names. So you see this could be the same here.

Charr vs Human vs Asura vs Norn

in Lore

Posted by: Grezko.7950

Grezko.7950

Now lets examine individual fights:
Char vs the Norn – The shiverpekas are more or less a complete nightmare logistic-wise for ppl and war machines alike. I do NOT believe that even the united char legions have any chance of taking it – this is not the kind of battlefield that the char are accustomed to and on the other hand The Norn are all too familiar with it. This will turn into a meatgrinder for both races with char experiencing more casualties due to the fact they will most likely be the agressor. I see this battle fighting almost exclusively in the Shiverpeaks, i do not forsee the Norn having any interest whatsoever to claim ascalon or any other Char areas. My conclusion is that this war will be a stalemate and a complete waste of resources for both races.

Asura vs Norn – First of all i do not see a reason for this war to happen at all due to neither race having anything the other one wants but i’ll play along. Asura will have similar problems to the one’s the Char would have – logistic nightmares. Although the asura gates and teleportation technology the asura have will ensure that they can get a foothold. Their main problem will be that they will not be able to control any territory in the Mountain except their fortified camps. This on itself is a complete waste of resources and unless those camps are not build around a mine for some precious material i do not see a reason for the asura to keep them.

Char vs Asura – now this is an interesting war. Both races consider themselves superior to all others and this war can be something interesting. Considering the distance between Rata Sum and the westernmost Char possessions one can hardly assume rata sum can be taken by surprise. Such a war will not be a fast one and i do believe that it will take centuries with the potential to decimate entire regions. The crucial part will be whether the Char will be able to choke the asura resource pools. In all fairness i do not see such a thing happen. The asura have the gates and the ability to build their factories where the resources can be. PPl are pointing out that they lost their fight against the destroyers – yes but i do believe they learned a lesson from that. In GW1 there are few examples of factories dedicated to mass production of golems, so we know for sure that those can be assembled if need be. AN asuran golem in not something to be underestimated – a successful design can be replicated easily and in fast numbers if enough resources are available. The Char on the other hand have their war machines as well – formidable too. I forsee a long war of attrition mostly in the territories between Divinity reach and Lion’s arch. With the tide of the War changing multiple times. I do believe though that only the asura have to potential to create a WMD-like weapon. And that moment will secure their victory. A WMD detonating over the Iron citadel will bring great havoc in the Char lines – first a great deal of their leaders will perish at the same time, second the Iron legion’s position will be weakened and the other 2 legions might exploit that to reignite their struggle to dominate.

Charr vs Human vs Asura vs Norn

in Lore

Posted by: Grezko.7950

Grezko.7950

To conquer a nation you need to first and foremost conquer their capital (usually their last stand fortress) and subdue any resistance either by genocide or submission. In that line of thoughts this theoretical war cannot have a winner. So my call is no winners but 1 loser.
– Humans – They are in the worst possible situation – they are more or less in the middle of their enemies meaning much of the war will take place on human land, after a while this will break the back of any economy left, and any fortress requires supply to sustain a siege. I believe Divinity reach has no chance to survive without Qeensdale to sustain it. Humans are in a pretty bad shape to begin with so according to me there is little doubt that their kingdom will be torn to shreds, the survivors will be taken into slaver most likely and for sure there will be frequent uprising that will be put down by whoever takes them out.

Norn – i do not see them taking any new territory beyond the Shiverpeaks, although i do not see anyone being able to take any territory from them either. The lack on of organization is actually their biggest strength – small parties can wreck complete chaos in inhospitable conditions. In harsh conditions smaller parties are easier to keep alive, to acquire resources and to sneak around. Anyone that tries to get a hold over the shiverpeaks will need to methodically destroy the entire mountain range in order to clear it out. Basically one need to siege up a mountain – noone we know that stay capability, not even the char.

Charr – superior organization, war-oriented society, expanding ambitions. As with every large army they have one main problem – logistics. Their style of warfare is to squash the enemy either with huge amount of warriors or with sophisticated machinery. Either of those require vast amount of supplies. Against the humans this has worked and i am pretty confident it can work again.

Asura – In most cases whoever has superior technology wins. Someone mentioned the Germans vs Russian tanks in WWII. T-34 was superior to all german tanks below a Panther or a Tiger. So the Truth is that the T-34 was a technological inovation in its own right and for a while the Germans did NOT have a tank to counter it. T-34 was already in production at the time the Panther was still in development. Lets get back to the asura. Their tech is quite impressive and quite diversified areawise. We have personal teleporters, golems, lasers, stasis shields and much much more. In the short run asura are unorganized – yes but considering that times works in their favor (time to organize a competition to find the best possible design for a combat golem, time to set up production facilities, time to get them to full speed) and their relatively far away location any war that does not catch them completely off guard will have the potential to end in their favor.

Frozen Maw Meta Event [Merged]

Grezko.7950

A lot of events have been broken in this manner, actually. I just broke AC p2 yesterday when the NPC died from Gravelings entering the final chamber with the 3 traps she has to repair. After rezzing her, she just stood there. I can’t think of any others off the top of my head, but I know I’ve seen more than one event break when an NPC dies at the wrong time.

Well that bug is about something else. If Detha (the NPC) activates the dialog with the ascalonian captain and THEN is attacked (does not matter if it gets killed) by a graveling or an ooze the bug occurs. It is easily reproducible and happens every time. Workaround is to run to one side of the room as soon as you enter in order to force Detha to port to your location and avoid fighting any mobs – after that wait for the mobs to reset to their original positions and then lead detha to the middle of the room to start the dialog with the captain.

In all fairness i haven’t tried to reproduce the bug for 2 weeks+ now so not sure if the “end of wintersday” patch fixed it. And tbh i have no intention of trying to – the bug hampers any further progress of AC.

First of all Why send your one and only most powerful airship somewhere else when there are so many threats still close to home. Its as if the germans in WW2 decided to send the battleship “Bismark” on a friendly mission to Japan.

We have
- Jormag advancing from the north
- Distress from branded and ghosts to the east
- The Remnants of the flame Legion(although my personal belief is that the Flame legion has been dealt a crushing blow and will be a lesser threat for a while) to the northeast.
- Centaurs to the west(although this conflict seems to be mostly dealt by the seraph even though it is said their resources are stretched to the limits).
- The risen in the south (Zaithan is dead but the risen need to be cleared form Orr and doubt this can be done overnight)
- Krait in all major provinces adjasant to the sea.

To send the most powerful ship you have in such times somewhere to explore seems plain stupid.

That said, I have not been selling most crafting materials as I need them for my own legendary. Makes no sense to sell them now just to buy them again later.

Doing events is a not descent source of cash and has never been.
1 hour = all 3 paths of AC done witch only from the cash at the end + csh from mobs equals 1G. From selling blues and other stuff you get mabye another 1G+
1 hour = complete ori farm witch is 1.5G only from ori ore.

Use brains!

They have to change their game, because YOU can’t get a precursor?

Sry but 250g in 2 month is nothing. You can’t expect to get a legendary for casual-playstyle within 2-4months. This is a long-time-goal. They didn’t promise anything.

A-Net can’t change their game every month because everyone want to have the most expensive stuff in the game. Some ppl managed to get multiple legendaries. There is no problem at all.

A Karka-chest every two months? And maybe 1000g for monthly hu? The “stupid ppl” here? I laughed at this point. A-Net is deleting every single post with some kind of trolling or even less than trolling in it. But some people can offend others while whining about everything they can’t manage to get. Seriously?

You just have to work for your weapon.

I’m not to worried about getting a legendary because it’s so far out of reach…but this comment 250 gold in 2 months is INSANITY! I’ve been playing since release and my main has like 20-25 gold and my alts a couple gold a piece.

I do dungeons, farm mats (trying to get crafting up to 400 and sell extra), and do the dragon events every day. The only way to get that much in 2 months is to A – play an unhealthy amount of time or B – play the other “game” called Trading Post. If I wanted to play a economic sim I would go play an economic sim, not a fantasy MMO.

The idea of getting that much gold just going through the game and playing a decent amount of time without going way overboard I find completely unrealistic. I average about 2+ hours a day playing the game, some days are longer (like a good Saturday session) and some days I don’t get on at all (usually during the week)

Sounds like all this boils down to is another “casual” vs “hardcore” argument (and who really knows what either means anymore) that people have been having since the dawn of MMO’s.

5G a day is what you get by spending lets say 2 hours doing the 3 AC paths + 2 CoF paths. And the 2H is very very broad. A good team can do them in 1 hour.

Fractals is a big source of money too with a bit of luck – 2 complete levels (7 fractals in total) one can get between 3 and 10 rares (chop for ectos) and 1-3 cores(if lucky with charged that is 1.5G right there), some times even lodestones drop (i’ve got maybe 10 out of 200 individual fractals done).

Crafting is another good way do get money, not to mention ori farm or other activities. An ori farm takes 45 minutes (if you pick omnomberies and ancient logs too). A daily ori farm amounts to 2-3 gold.

So far i’ve given only 3 possible ways to to get at LEAST 2-3 gold a day each if not double or triple that if you know how in descent amount of time.

In other words – research, thinking and one can get 10G a day in 2-3 hours of play without “playing the trade post game”. This is a fact and i can prove it easy to everyone that wants it.

Since start of the game i have done maybe 1100G(most of it are gone into the production of Bolt, witch is not ready yet) without any sort of flipping with 2 exeptions, i bought The Chosen for 80G and sold it later for 170G and i’ve made maybe 60G from buying glacial lodestone and selling them before, around and after the wintersday event.

I’ve also wasted quite a lot of gold into failed endeavors (the mystic toilet) or dumb mistakes (selling my mystic battleaxe to a vendor after playing half asleep), witch probably amounts to another waster 100-200G.

I play 4-5 days a week at least 3 hours a day(a bit more during Saturday or Sunday, i rarely have the chance to play both of those days) to maybe 18-20 hours tops a week, with maybe a third amount of that time spent in WvWvW.

250G a month is nothing unachievable. Even double than that is possible if using the mushy thing we have in our heads.

Who is this Mordremoth?

in Lore

Posted by: Grezko.7950

Grezko.7950

Mordremoth is supposedly the name of the 6th dragon that has some influence over nature and has to do with corruption of plants (Husks, nightmare hounds, poison flowers), and possibly with the distress in the sylvari “Dream” and the nightmare court’s actions. The only one’s that seem to have some information about him are the Inquest and the evidences about that are inside the Crucible of eternity (possibly one of the main and biggest Inquest bases)

Ascalonians in Branded Areas

Hmm i think its more likely that ghosts cannot be corrupted or branded. After all they are just vengeful spirits without bodies. As far as i know there is not corrupted/ branded/ icebrood ghosts ingame. Also all dragon’s seem to corrupt the bodies of their victims binding or destroying the mind/soul of its previous owner. So in that line of toughts ghosts are incorruptible by dragon powers (at least if thy died not corrupted).

Would the Asura ever go back underground?

How to measure power ? Hmm very difficult question. If we go with cannonical methods the worst evil is the one with least direct methods that hides in the shadows and you know the least about. By that logic the most powerful dragon no doubt should be the unknown 6th – the one affecting the Dream of the silvary. The only thing we know about him come from the Inquest and the fact that they have a 6th corner chamber with plants in their Mount Maelstrom compound. From Subject Alpha’s abilties we know that Mordremoth is a name of either the Depp Sea dragon or the Mysterious 6ht.
Lets look into the Crucible of eternity.
Path 1
- Subject alpha does NOT use the ability called Teeth of Jormag
- The boss just before the end encounter with Subject alpha is Bjarl the Rampager – a minion of Jirmag.
We can call this path – the Jormag path.

Path 3
- Subject alpha does NOT use the ability called Teeth of Primordus
- The boss just before the end encounter with Subject alpha is A minion of Primordus and the path leading to him destroyers.
We can call this path – the Primordus

Path 2 – here things gets interesting
- Subject alpha does NOT use the ability called Teeth of Mordremoth
- The boss just before the end encounter with Subject alpha is an Evolved Husk

If we follow logic from above Mordremoth = the mystery dragon that is linked somehow to corruption of nature and somehow to the silvary (trying even to influence the Dream maybe)

Alot of blacktide guilds went to Vabbi or ROS not PS (only 2 that i know of and RG was originally piken, and the balkan Guild)

Don’t even think Balkan Guild came to piken as there is mention of them on Ruins of Surmia.

They are here since last Thursday at least.

Can a bleed warr PvE properly?

in Warrior

Posted by: Grezko.7950

Grezko.7950

For the entire process of me leveling up and some time more (maybe 2 months after launch) i played full rampager gear. Bleeds stack nicely the 33% chance on crit to bleed results in me solo being able to keep 15-18 bleeds at times constant that tick 70-80 each tick witch equals to 1200+ extra dmg per second. Sword + axe was great for that build due to both sword main attack bleeding and the wirlwind criting. The main problem i found while PvE-ing with my warrior (dungeons that is) was the lack of survivability. In all fairness the build i use now (power/toughness/vitality shout build) is one of the most tankiest out there and to me almost all other builds feel squishy, but getting killed by AoE was nothing uncommon even to normal mobs if i was not careful for a moment.

My point is that bleed warriors have a common problem with pure zerker warriors. In some dungeon fights (mainly boss fights), due to their squishyness they have to jump in and out of combat all the time, while tougher builds in the famility of the one i use (power/toughness/vitality + shouts ) can stay and do melee dmg for longer even if that dmg is lower. Yes, my crit chance is just below 30% (50 in reality because i can keep constant fury on without breaking a sweat), but so far i haven’t found a situation in witch i’d prefer to be in zerker or bleed build.

P.S. i use Sword + shield instead of Axe + shield for the extra mobility that the sword provides (Leap) + hamstring slows for more time.
