And instead the game should be balanced around making sure every class can stack and speed run a dungeon the same? I think PvP is a match better balancing ground in a competitive game mode, rather than making sure each class finishes there dungeon within 20 seconds of each other.
I agree with this, however I think PvE should be worked on, so it plays more like PvP. PvE is way too easy and cheesy but it would cost a lot of resources to make sufficient changes.
1) reduced distance and doubled CD is pure nonsense. Lots of weapons have more mobility than gs, like warrior’s sword.
2) a 40 secs cd on a 900 leap with no secondary effects is just dumb.
3) make it a 900 range, add a cripple effect and fix the pathing. Done.
o.O
Ride the Lightning. Got changed exact like that. Sword has more mobility? You mean you can travel more than 1200 units with sword at the same time as the GS can? I’m curious how.
Not to mention that the skill would stay exactly the same if you use it as it was inteded to be: to close distance.
-_-.
Stick to axe for offhand only and run it with a sword in your mainhand. You won’t be able to talk people out of kicking you for axe in your mainhand unless you’re joining groups who just don’t care about how long their run takes.
Stop being such a hardcore know-it-all player please. All it takes is joining a casual guild that does PvE and off you go playing how you want.
The hardcore know-it-all is called zerker meta, and as the name says, it’s the friggin’ meta. So you can do what you want but don’t expect to be taken to a good zerker run.
i think the best warrior combo now for PvE is gonna be Axe Axe and GS. Why dual Axe? With the increased damage on Axe 5, alongside reduced adren gain, rapidly building up massive amounts of adren to move from one spike to the other will be the way to go in order to achieve max DPS.
Evis – Whirling Axe – Arching Slice – 100b – Evis then axe AA…. Not sure how the calculations will be, but i assume that you will do fairly good damage in a shorter amount of time.
I don’t think that you want to burn through your adrenaline all the time. You get an 15% damageboost after all. Axe+axe can be possible but I don’t think GS will be used after the patch since A+M/A+S is only slightly weaker than Gs/Gs is currently.
Rush didn’t get fixed (I don’t care about the distance, make it 900 for all I care, just let me hit something with it!)
Add a target required or reduced distance and doubled cooldown (same as RtL), fix the pathing and it would be a fair change.
100b still useless in pvp, even more with a 5% damage decrease (A 5% nerf to damage is meaningless, and this skill is already useless in pvp… )
Buff to rifle and arcing slice (finally!)
That’s probably the reason why they nerfed 100b. They nerfed the useless part and buffed the useful part.
Nerf to adrenaline (so every warrior will be using longbow. Good job, so much for build diversity)
That’s why they should change LB F1 the same way they changed thief’s Choking Gas:
Add an initial strike to the fire field upon landing. If it hits nothing, no conditions will be cured.
And adrenaline decays at superspeed as soon as you leave combat. I wonder why that doesn’t happen for death shroud.
I think necros are weak enough atm and there are multiple counters to DS that do not apply to adrenaline. The change also serves the playstyle of using your adrenaline in the fight rather than carrying it over to other fights.
No other class has such harsh penalties attached to the use of their class mechanic.
Ranger says hello. They lose 30% of their damage only to justify their mechanic to even exsist.
I think the changes are good and the suggestion towards the longbow is also a good one.
No I’m waiting for the Rush nerf, which is inevitable.I would like to think that even with ANets’ checkered balancing past that they know that if you nerf GS mobility (which is it’s main strength) you have yourself a weapon that is worthless and everyone would just take Sword.
Last time I checked GS was the strongest weapon for PvE out of all classes (Not counting conjured weapons obvioulsy). The changes will slightly nerf it in PvE, which will probably put it behind an axe+mace/axe+sword setup but therefore it will be much more effective in PvP. The new F1 dealt almost 6k damage to a heavy golem below 50% health.

I don’t know how you can say the new GM trait will be good for PvE when most bosses are immune to roots and cripple. The GM trait won’t be used. Rangers will take piercing arrows, spotter, and probably might on signet use or the % modifier when at full endurance.
What are you talking about? Are you talking about normal PvE where noone ever cares what you take as weapon? Or do you talk about competitive PvE, aka. Dungeons or Fractals, where LB will still be way too weak to compete with the melee options the ranger has?
The current longbow can wreck face and get 3-4k auto attacks and is borderline abusive with some clever positioning.
The new longbow is, quite frankly, scary.
+1 lost almost 3/4 of my health in like 2secs from glassy rangers rapid fire and thats was with 3k armor 24k health.
Edit: I was in wvw.
So now people are straight up lying about what Rangers can currently do. You people are ridiculous.
3/4 of a 24k health pool is 18k health. You’re saying that a Ranger’s rapid fire took EIGHTEEN THOUSAND HP off a 3k armor build in 2 seconds?
First of all, a Ranger’s rapid fire hits on average up to 10-11k on a standard zerk build if there are a good number of crits in there. This can potentially be boosted to around 14-15k if might-stacked from other players and other power buffs and assuming most attacks crit. And this only on total glass players.
Second of all, Rapid fire has a 5 second cast time, so I’m not sure where you pulled that 2 second figure from (though I have a very good idea…). And finally, most players dodge during a Ranger’s rapid fire, which makes almost half the shots miss.
You are simply proving the point I made in my original post.
I did say I was in wvw. The ranger did have full guards stacks, food, bloodlust stacks, used quickness and I did see sigil of air proc, but yes i did receive around 18k damage in a matter of seconds.
So you’re saying that a ranger who plays full berserker and who blows all his cooldowns at once is strong? One single dodge whould’ve cut almost all the damage. Or do you also complain about 100b being too strong if you don’t want to dodge out of it?
And I’ve downed some light armor classes within 2 AA’s, however that is very uncommon.
No idea how pet immunity while passive/idle solves anything, though. Players have to constantly dodge roll and pop defensives to wade through a zerg; pets don’t survive long enough to go two feet. It’s just a worthless mechanic to have for zerg v zerg and GvG scenarios, and immunity until they damage someone means they’ll only get one hit until they’re down and out. Not much of a solution.
You go down in a zerg, so does the pet. The problem is that if you want to pick up a target behind the zerg, you usually want to go around it. The pet doesn’t. The immunity would help the pet to get past the zerg. it wont help the pet survive the zerg longer if the pet attacks. That said, I would like to have all damage concentrated on me rather than split between me and my pet. But my suggestion would be atleast a band-aid fix.
More like get a hard hitting and fast moving pet to attack the enemy, start with LB #2 and follow up with some autoattacks. Light armored targets should be down pretty quickly, hopefully too fast for them to react.
As scenario:
If Anet would be able to tweak the traits to that extend that we would be able to pick Piercing Arrows, Eagle Eye and Read the Wind and if the pet would be immune to damage as long as it is not attacking someone and with the upcoming longbows changes, could the ranger act as a sniper in GvG or zerg vs zerg who’s sniping eles, mesmers and necros in the back line?
I’m thinking of something like SotW, ZS and Guard for your pet.
Pet vs. zerg band-aid fix:
Pets are immune to all damage as long as they don’t attack, ergo as long as they don’t deal damage.
Pets regain immunity when they go out of combat.

Wat?
The OP takes a compilation as evidence? The OP doesn’t even recognize that the ranger in the video is a skilled player, mostly outplaying less skilled players? The OP doesn’t recognize that the build lacks multiple stunbreakers and condition removes? The OP doesn’t recognize that the presented build is mostly melee?
I’m not someone who likes gambling on keys, but I couldn’t not have a shot at such a fashionable prize! …..
….thus endeth the lesson….
Gotta hand it to Anet.
Well there’s nothing wrong with buying gems if you can afford it. If you stop buying food to instead buy gems to try for a chance at an item that in the end is meaningless to anyone but you while you play a cyber-game… well, THEN you have a problem. And let’s face it, 99% of the GW2 population can’t afford to shell out 3500g (in game wealth) for one item, cuz… nerfs.
Purchasing gems isn’t the issue, gambling is, and it is incredibly stupid no matter how much money you have.
Well buying a stock is a gamble. Warren Buffet must be a complete moron.
Except with BL chests you can’t say: “I expect hair kits to rise today after X business thing happens.”
You can. I expect hair kits to rise to very high prices at the end of this 2 weeks. The fact that they exist to be dropped right now tells buyers that there might be some out there. So in 2 weeks they will start increasing their bids until they get their hands on one.
Unless the drop rate is increased I don’t see this item getting any cheaper than it is now. I suspect it will rise higher and higher and plateau at a price that people will just… not pay. So I’m not sure what price that is, but it will likely be over 5k.
I personally find it disgusting that there are obviously people out there who can afford to spend more than 5k gold just like that. Where did those people get so much gold from? I expect those people have everything they want already, exept the hair stylist, since there is no point of not buying the things you want with so much gold.
So I keep asking myself why there are those people in this game, which calls itself to be casual oriented, that can make so much more gold than everybody else.
1. GS is a power weapon. Period.
2. The bleed has to be balanced → The other stats have to be nerfed.
3. The bleed the ranger would inflict would just overlap with the bleed from other classes or other rangers.
At the bomb part, whenever you attack, you go in combat. That’s particularly annyoing when you use jumps or leaps that have damage attached to them.
BTW, we are all talking WvW in this case, right?
Yes, Zerker with scholar runes is the best for dungeons since you get the buff from other teammates and you should’ve spotter equiped.
However the question is how much critchance would be optimal in a solo setting only with fury granted.
Uhh….
Why would you take assassins? Power is always better than crit chance. Especially these days with double sigil procs.
Meh, don’t know. Sigils add a nice burst but they’re not that noticeable. However more than twice the normal damage as crit every time is noticeable.
Can’t fix it. It’s how their entire AI is designed. What do you think Rangers have been complaining about since day 1?
The fact that this is even being discussed as anything but an exploit is a giant neon sign highlighting ANets inc….
Someone will get an infraction for saying that sooner or later.
That said, I hope I can disagree. Ofcourse, there is no saving grace for the current AI. That however doesn’t mean that all AIs have to be that bad.
Ok so let me get this straight OP. Your signature says you’re from DnT, now I don’t know much about the “hardcore pve scene”, but I believe those guys are known for speedclearing stuff extremely efficiently and quick (correct me if I’m wrong).
Why would you want to remove FGS 4?
Are other guilds catching up to your “records” by using this “cheese” perhaps?
Do you enjoy longer PvE fights?
Or maybe you guys never run elementalists, so you feel you’re at a disadvantage?I honestly don’t understand why would you care.
I’m guessing that was aimed at me since the OP isn’t in that guild. Here’s the thing – yes we’re speed clearers, but we all have our own opinions on things, and sure, efficiency is great and I like maximising my DPS, but when it makes pve completely un fun and basic, I don’t think it’s strange that I would complain about it. For the record – I’m giving my own opinion, not a guild opinion.
I would agree with you but I like fast gold. And since traiding post flippers make so much more gold than any dungeonrunner could do, I’m not in favor of that change. You want PvE balanced? Ok, I have nothing against that. But the gamemodes should be balanced first. And the gold one could get from the TP isn’t balanced compared to any other activity in this game, despite all that mighty traiders claiming otherwise.
Why would someone who specializes in PvE speedclears inherently wish for the balance to favour specific skills on specific classes?
Balance and GW2 should not be named within the same sentence.
There is heavy serverload and at the same time I experience much less skill lag than I’m used to with so much players at one point (but maybe it’s just me). The downsite to this seems to be the disconnects.
Oh I can’t wait to be called commander again. I’m downright thrilled! I highly dislike being called “boss”. Boss of what? Whay am I the boss now? Noone asked me to be the boss. I’m way more delighted with being called commander than boss.

Guild Wars in GW2 confirmed! \o/
Imagine the wildlife fighting.
Assassin. The extra crit chance will give you better average damage then the power from zerker will.
I’m wondering which would be the most optimal critchance. The build you’ve proposed lacks perma fury but you’ll certainly have fury at weaponswap and if you take RaO for quite a while. On the other hand 100% critchance seems a bit wasted imo.
Should one aim for 60% to 70% critchance?
Haha, Alpha? Are you kidding me?
Get a proper team to play with. That’s how.
So you’re suggesting your team should heal you?
Viper’s Nest should apply torment, while keeping the poison combofield, or even better, they should create a new combofield for torment. Problem solved.
Most of those problems is simply fixed by turning auto attack off or learning how to time #2 and #3(I do admit this is kittening hard when you don’t have the best latency), you can dodge or interrupt anytime in your attack chain with auto attack off.
The main problem is that you can’t melee max ranger at all when it is required for the encounter and forced to go GS, I do agree with you regarding removing leap to remedy this problem. I guess they are going with what TurtleDragon posted there…
Laziest solution would be a overall damage buff for the class and/or sword. It’d still be high risk and high skill cap, but it would atleast have the high reward associated with it.Sword is designed against a single target, they want the GS to fill in the role of melee aoe DPS (reinforcing this further with Maul buff).
As I said to Prysin already, opinions. For you it’s a mechanic, for me it’s sloppy design.
http://www.dtguilds.com/forum/m/6563292/viewthread/13086970-who-picks-up-fgs
Just add 10% modifier for the 6/5/0/3/0 ranger. I’ll try to post later actual FGS damage ingame.
That… err… proves my point?
(edited by HHR LostProphet.4801)
I don’t want to vilify or to distract from the buffs we get. They’re great. It’s just that ANet has touched only the tip of the iceberg and there is still lots of room for improvements.
What high level dungeons? SotW is a significant boost against most dungeon bosses because most of the bosses melt down fast enough for it to be worth bringing.
I rarely if ever get any problems Hunter’s Tactic or scholar runes.
So you want to tell me that you never ever get hit by any boss and you always stay above 90% health? Unlikely.
Also, if you stack correctly, all will stand on top of each other. The enemy is always facing one of your allies, which means it’s facing you. So a nono for Hunter’s Tactics.I told you I don’t any problems with it, meaning that in most fights I keep my health above 90 % or my guard is aware enough to know when to trigger his aegis. I honestely can’t think of a single encounter where I struggle to keep my health above 90 % most of the time.
And I don’t need someone who obviously are having problems playing his ranger in dungeons to tell me how to stack properly.
As Obi-Wan would say: The insults are strong in you.
And please tell me how you keep your health above 90% all the time vs. subject alpha who’s burning you or the golem in CoE who has perma retaliation or against frost in CM, or the necro guy in CM, or Leurent in TA, or most of the bosses in Arah?

Fine.
Like a paleontologist crying to God/Science/FSM/Real-Life Cosmic RNG, because HIS fossilized amberite mosquito didn’t drop, even though he spend 1700 hours and 19 years totally digging like everywhere. That is EXACTLY what you’re doing.
It’s optional. Just stop.
That’s what you all told me when I disliked Drytop and laggy LS.
It’s optional.I’m suggesting a change for the better of the game, thats what im doing. If they continue adding rng only weaps i’m pretty sure these posts will only pop up more and more XD. And I alrdy stated I stopped lol. Gave up on fractal weapons sometime ago. Almost finished with my first legendary becuz of it. Dont care about the bug weapons personally but similar concept. This is a game and its supposed to be fun.The Rng is still 0 fun and just frustrating for so many. Why do u cry against the idea of getting rid of pure rng? why is such a bad thing to allow weapons to be earned guarenteed over time?
But it is fun when in works in your/our favour.
You lie if you say otherwise.Like, Pinnochio, a fib-fib, Fibberer!
My new Twin Sword that I just got from Fallen Adventurer Pack… SO EXITE!
RNG does get implemented usually so you don’t get what you want as quickly as you wish to.
Heh. Prysin, you can have your opinion. However in my mind, many things that you interpret as mechanic are broken and certainly no mechanics but poorly implemented skills. In my opinion sword AA has way too many negative aspects to justify the positive ones. In your it’s the best skill ingame. You say axe is a wonderful weapon, I say it fills no purpose in PvE. You say the pet is fine, I say an AI should never been allowed to deal mandatory damage.
Opinions. Just because some have a problem with your opinions doesn’t mean they’re bad.
Ah yeah, and even if all those complainers only play power longbow, then the longbow must suffer a lot, right?
(edited by HHR LostProphet.4801)
Post patch you can get hit like 10%x3 & 1×25% modifiers with a 6/5/x/x/x build, even 75 more power on top of that when you’re the second ranger, you’ll approximately hit close to a thief/ele with FGS.
That’s definitely not true. My ele hits for around 2,4k damage per tick while my ranger hits for only 1,9k. The ele can stack easily 25 stacks vuln with FGS, which equals to 25% more damage. Furthermore, from the traits he gets +10% to burning foes. At the same time he has a chance to burn enemies while landing crits. +20% for enemies below 33% health, +10% if the enemy is 600 units away or closer, +20% if attuned to water and another 10% crit damage when using an arcane skill.
So all in all around +50% damage and another +20% when the enemy drops below 33% health, not counting scholar runes.
That also applies to the warrior, which can also reach higher procental damage boosts.
The ranger gets SotW, which is huge. But it barely makes up for the percental boosts other classes get through traits or skills and it does only increase your damage for 8s. That’s enough for low-level dungeons but it wont help you much in higher-level dungeons. Hunter’s Tactics does usually not work if you stack in a corner and scholar runes are fairly unreliable.
(edited by HHR LostProphet.4801)
Well that’s just how you feel. Sure using 1h sword in PvE has a skill cap, but the upcoming damage boost is significant enough to justify that cap (but I still remember them saying before april’s feature patch that they intended to “fix” sword auto attacks so there’s still hope for that).
I’ve made a thread about why I feel the sword is bad.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/Why-the-current-sword-needs-polishing/first
And the reasons I present are facts, no feels. Those flaws doesn’t make the sword unusable but the ranger has to work around those flaws and is still hindered. Not to say it’s a bad weapon overall but it suffers in PvE the most.
Personal experience: I run Axe a lot in WvW. The one thing that always trips me with Axe is that it has kitten mobility. Even with 50% uptime on Swiftness and 100% uptime on 25% movement speed, people still get away from me easily. The reason for that is that the only thing Axe offers to keep things in place is a puny cripple, which really isn’t enough.
Maybe, just maybe, that’s intended to happen.
Not to say FGS is balanced but since when is PvE balanced in any way? Fights get trivialized by single skills (Guardian wall as example), the mob AI is way too poor, which enables stacking, conditions are useless most of the time, no need for any defense outside of the support capabilities the guardian offers while still playing full berzerker.
So, ofcourse, FGS is broken. But so is the whole PvE.
All the dances of the How to Dance Vol.1 where in the game since release. If the devs want to release new volumes, they would have to implement them first.
And ANet seems a little bit lazy.
So you made this suggestion because the names don’t get saved?
As far as weapons go, I’m not exactly sure which ones have true flaws outside of nitpicking small details. I know that a lot of poeple don’t like the 1h sword, but I use it and think it’s amazing in both PvP and PvE content, though I can understand where people have issues with it. I do think that being able to cancel the chain to dodge better would be an important improvement, but I’m not of the opinion that it is a necessary improvement. It would be more Quality of Life than anything.
Not really flaws but I hate sword AA. Also almost all weapons are PvP only. Some warriors complain about their beloved GS isn’t viable in PvP, we have the exact opposite problem.
Axe offhand would be a good PvE weapon if the axe#5 radius would be slightly bigger at base values and if we would be able to move while channeling. Even if we would move 50% slower (like being crippled), that would be a huge improvement. Torch fills no purpose other than getting a firefield. I’m still in favor of MH torch. Think of a firefield which can be reapplied fairly quickly + LH AA. Not sure if the damage would be competitive, it would be still a hybrid weapon I think. Shortbow is also a hybrid weapon and a pretty bad one on top of that. So a nono for PvE. Same goes for dagger. The evade is nice and that’s honestly the purpose of this weapon but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s pretty useless in PvE.
The longbow will be fun in PvE imo but I still would like to see a 3hit AA chain that is slightly stronger than the current AA.
And compared to other classes we lack percental damage boosts.
(edited by HHR LostProphet.4801)
Dummies on the TP give you all their gold but you can’t attack them.
You don’t have to bother about your traits or skills until you’re lvl80.
If you don’t want to care about your pet, you can …kitten… use a bear. If you want to be more effective, use red moa or jungle stalker. In open PvE you ckittene the weapon of your choice however if you want to run dungeons fast, you have to invest in proper berzerker gear and the appripriate skills and traits
(edited by HHR LostProphet.4801)
There used to be dummies in Fort Marriner in LA. Since the attack they’re gone. Are there any other dummies for PvE?
Can we please get a fix to this
It really takes away from the supposed Legendary weapon. I don’t care if the Bowstring is removed completely, just something.
This issue is as old as the game itself and has been raised dozen and dozen times before.
You can figure out by your own how much hope you should have.
Not that I’m not super hyped, I mean, obviously I am, I finally have motivation to finish my Kudzu now lol. But I just mean to remind people in general that it isn’t like it super-buffs the class. They are good and well deserved changes but there is an equal amount of counterplay involved against the new specs we can create and we aren’t getting buffed to the point where we’re going to be “god tier.”
They’ve addressed 1/4 of the problems we have. They’ve made Beastmaster stronger, the longbow stronger, the axe stronger for PvP (not in all regards tho) and GS stronger. Now we still have too much traits affecting only one weapon, a class mechanic that is still lack luster, the other weapons which also have flaws and entire traitlines which are flawed.
We will see, and for the record, i dont complain about rangers.
I complain about warrior GS, the weapon could really need some fix/buffs. rush is nice for running but the skill sucks at hitting.. make it a 900 leap or something..
100b (what i ALREADY where saying in this topic) you can remove some damage from 100b in return we get a mobile 100b.. so we dont NEED other weapons for a 100b (maby new 50b) so even GS becomes good in pvp.warrior GS, the weapon could really need some fix/buffs.
http://images4.fanpop.com/image/photos/21100000/lolige-the-word-lol-21172012-258-196.jpg
You only post some words from my post…
Ugh, whatever… this community is very bad @ GW2
People can only flame at this forum and say they know the best and call the rest noobs..Ok, seriously now. I’ll tell you why the warrior GS doesn’t need any buffs:
1) Ranger Rapid Fire vs. Warrior Hundred Blades
As zerker, 100b hits as double as hard as rapid fire does.
2) Not every weapon is good for everything. Some warriors might forget that. The ranger does suffer from this quite heavily. The only weapons good enough for PvE the ranger has are sword, warhorn and sometimes OH axe. The ranger GS is only viable if you don’t want or can’t play with the sword.
3) Rapid Fire can be evaded, blocked or obscured, just like 100b can be. You want your favourite weapon in PvE be also the best weapon for PvP? Not gonna happen, suck it up.Why can’t a weapon be good for pve and pvp? Apart from conditions or defensive ones, that are useless in pve, most weapons are useful both in pvp and pve.
Is that some strange kind of skin balance issue?
With the new balance preview, rapid fire will have more dps than 100b, and mh axe will probably be nice in pve.
Warrior GS can deal massive direct damage but requires the target to stand still. That applies to PvE, that’s why it’s good. However it doesn’t in PvP, that’s why it’s bad.
The channel time for rapid fire will be 2,5 seconds. Evade once and you’ve mitigated half the damage. Or do you listen to players who cry about how hard 100b hits if they refuse to dodge out of it? On a site note: No, it wont have more DPS than 100b.
And MH axe isn’t an option for PvE.
8 professions / 2 professions/stream = 4 streams
4 streams / 1/2 streams/week = 8 weeks
8 weeks / 4 weeks/month = 2 monthsConclusion – next balance path no sooner than in two months.
Touche, Anet, touche.
I hope that this isn’t what is going to happen. I REALLY do :S
Why would they talk about balance choices long after the patch hits instead of before?
To build up hype.
Warriors have no way to avoid conditions apart from berserker stance (60 sec cd).
That means that without CI/bow, you’ll get wrecked by any condi build able to kite or blind spam you. You’re a melee animal, and In a teamfight you’ll end up dead as soon as a condi necro/ranger/engi shows up.
I’m pretty sure that even a condi guardian could steamroll a war without CI and/or longbow. You guys cry all day “warriors have so much damage and survivability!” “this meta is full of bunkers!”, and then you don’t want to make zerker builds viable.
You just want warriors to have no condition cleansing, no vigor, no invulnerability skills, no mobility and weak dps. I’m pretty sure this isn’t balance.
Warriors have some of the best condition cleansing is you spec for it, only thing is, when you spec for the condi cleanse, it limits what offensive traits you can take. A shout warrior with soldier runes for example, has no problem with conditions, at all, however it’s not the best 1v1 or 1v2 build out there.
Oh, you have to make a tradeoff? Good for you. It’s not like other classes have to make a tradeoff too.
It really takes away from the supposed Legendary weapon. I don’t care if the Bowstring is removed completely, just something.
