I think it’s an incredible testament to the determination of two servers committed to double teaming a third, stronger opponent.

Every time i’ve tried to organize one of these 2v1s they’ve backfired on the 2, especially as the match gets closer to the end.

Props to you (you know who you are) for maintaining your aggressive 2v1.

It’s not easy to get a whole server onboard with an organized push similar to what has been going on, let alone 2.

SO that said, 2v1s were a part of WVW game design.

It sucks to be the meat in the sandwich, but at the end of the day, what is the harm?

you loose a wvw matchup? you get third in the tournament instead of first?

I guess i’m blessed to be on a server that doesn’t give two kittens where we fall in the tournament, we just want to have a good fight.

GvGers want to test themselves, and random people running into the GvG skews the results of the fight.

They want to work together more effectively, and while it’s nice that observers want to have a bag or two off the sweat of their hard work, they’ve got a lot invested in their fights (AKA their reputation), while observers just have a bag to get.

As mentioned above there are many times when they cant go to OS because of scheduling – there are a lot of guilds, and they want to fight each other.. IF you’ve ever had to rent equipment that is in extremely high demand then you know that scheduling can be a problem.

GvG guilds go to extraordinary lengths to custom tailor every build, every trinket, every trait, and their zerg composition to dominate in – and this is the important part – AN EVEN NUMBERED FIGHT

that is what’s up with GVGers being a kitten to you when you try to freeload off their kills, and their synergy.

To answer your question as to why one is 9g and the other is 1.5,

that all comes down to supply. there’s 1000+ of the yellow guild catas, which means the community of guild cata farmers have collectively stabilized the price.

as for the blue guild catas, there is simply not enough of them available to keep the price low.

there’s no difference in cata quality.

I play WvW regularly and I don’t rep the ArenaNet guild. I’ve been playing a lot more recently because of the tournament. If you play in the middle/Silver tier, you have probably seen or killed me.

I only rep the ArenaNet guild if I am in the game for work/business reasons.

My play time is my time to relax and enjoy the game, and popping the ArenaNet tag would distract from that. I’d get tons of questions and wouldn’t be able to accomplish what I want to do with my off hours time without interruptions.

All valid reasons for not having the Anet tag on while you play. Still it would be awesome to see an ANET zerg. Have devon move over from NSP for a day and drive an ANET GVG!

Phantasm Mesmer + PU mesmers are an easy way to go, assuming your enemies aren’t so stupid that they leave your phantasms up.

Shatter mesmer is much more challenging, as it requires mastery of timing your bursts.

Shatter is unreliable as a damage source because many players know to dodge the shatter, and they can see a shatter setup from miles away.

I’ve leveled 4 of my 7 heroes in WvW. I normally go to lvl 30 in PvE, and then join WvW once i’ve unlocked all my skill slots.

You need to play very carefully, because an enemy will fart in your general direction and you will be downed.

you need to get used to dodging through zergs (space +v button at the same time)

re-gear with masterwork gear every 5-10 levels.

Blockhead Magee is right, many of us don’t pop our ArenaNet tags when playing. When we do play with it on, it tends to act as a beacon that draws the enemy in like moths to a light bulb.

We are out there, even if you don’t know it.

Wow some really insightful posts. Perhaps Anet may actually have a scan over them…

Kind of annoyingly amusing for me though, never been a hardcore WvWer but being a roamer has always worked out as my 80’s are the non GWEN classes.

as it should be. Roaming is all class friendly.

Main build difference being that when roaming, you’re concerned for yourself.

When zerging, your build concern is keeping the folks next to you up and going.

oh yes. my WvW ranks were spread too thin through my 7 characters to amount to much of anything besides supply mastery + Ram or Cata mastery. Now i have almost all masteries maxed, plus guard stacks on all of my toons.

tis fabulous. lvl 3 ranger + AC mastery 5 = bags and levels.

I’m not entirely sure how you would qualify “real” threads
but its clear to see what the discussion on the forum happens to be circulating around.

Some threads get hundreds of responses, and tens of thousands of views, with not so much as a whisper of a dev.

hell, it would be better if there was a counter that would be able to say how many times a thread has been viewed by an Anet dev. Doesnt have to say who specifically. That alone might dispel the perception that they’re not paying attention to us.

Although I may need to run another test. I do think they’re using some kind of keyword thing to narrow down on threads to lock down

I propose /r (stands for realm, since /w [for world] and /s [for server] are already taken)

What? In my opinion I think they should allow MORE players into WvW maps. The map is just way to big to have 40-50 player caps. That’s just not viable. Are you trying to make WvW as empty as PVE zones? If you don’t like it go play sPVP scrub.

The vast majority of servers do not consistently queue maps, so increasing the player cap would only serve to exacerbate the imbalance of the server population differences, and to increase the amount of load on the server infrastructure and your own machine.

I think that KöMÉ had some very good critique of this proposal, It would affect them, and other guilds of that size very negatively. (although KöMÉ, how epic would it be if you could flip two borderlands at once?)

A part of the problem that creates postings like Mango’s here isn’t just the coverage and population differences, there are also considerable skill gaps.

Servers who have suffered exoduses are short on leadership and well practiced WvW battle veterans. Reducing the map cap, thus increasing the queue times in the higher tiers, would provide some incentive for those high skill groups to move down.

Trait changes screwed uplevels

WvW was always the endgame.

Gearing is the main thing that screws uplevels, not traits.

Leveling in WvW isn’t super easy unless you have a strong blob which can make up for your lack of health, dps, etc.

You’re a liability to your team as an uplevel as you can be downed in as little as a single hit (for those lucky zerker kitten meteornadoes)

but as someone above mentioned, with account bound wxp especially, you can sit back on siege and still be effective.

Uplevels are also screwed because they’re targeted first. uplevel arrow = easy target (again gearing is what makes uplevels so squishy, making no assessment of player skill)

the point that matters of my post is : uplevels were always screwed.

I agree with OP.

I’ll point out that WvW is the only reason that I play this game.

MightMicah has some valid points, but

WvW clearly does not receive the same degree of attention from Anet, EXCEPT for when they slow down the LS for a season or tournament.

I’m sure devon is putting a lot of love into it and fiercely lobbies for us, but the problem clearly stems from higher up in the heirarchy

I’ve heard there is a very high turnover rate at Anet because of management and lack of communication between business units.

There are game designers and developers who have the answers that we are asking for, and who could easily explain rationale for certain mechanical design choices that were made with the game to respond to MANY of the suggestions that players make to improve WvW.

Hope that someone steps up to the plate.

IT IS pretty sad. I remember reading impressive statistics from Anet about how many players engage with WvW every week compared to some of their other games, and If those statistics were not blown out, then I have no other option but to be amazed at how little Anet suits seem to care about the only real endgame that Gw2 has to offer.

Anyone that’s done any sort of organized PvP, from Guild Wars GvG or rated bg’s in WoW etc will tell you that looks like just a bunch of mess.

GvG in GW2 at this moment is just a ZvZ but on a smaller scale.

I’m sorry that you think that looks like a bunch of mess. It’s really an excellent example of how these fights happen. The commander in this video built up reputedly one of the best GvG guilds to play the game.

granted, a lot of stuff is happening at once, but this vid shows you how important positioning is, the stress and risk that comes with staying on pin, and how they manage both their own condition cleansing and application to the enemy.

If you’ve played for a long time you’ll recognize all of those fields and skills, and it isnt as overwhelmingly “mess” like.

It’s really an outstanding display of teamwork and discipline

Lol at the T1 tears.

Do you guys think you’re a speacial snowflake because you optimaze your PPT play? We know what you guys do, and its extremely boring.

You dont just blob with baddies, you:
- Have mutiple 5 man ganking squads around bloodlust to cap and secure it, because this will get you loads of score from the constant fighting
-Have players willing to sit on towers/keep to scout, siege up and shoot anything that passes by
-Escort yaks en masse, play like a turttle most of the time
- If an open field fight is too difficult, set up siege
- “Map politics” lol

Rinse an repeat on all maps, ta da. Oh and when it gets “competitive” you know its time to:
-Siege grief
-Spy other teams voice comms or send alt acct
-Buy guilds for x time zone.
-Set up truces with another server that at the end you’ll the one taking more advantage

Instead of all that kitten you could be having fun just forgetting about the scoreboard and focus more on getting better at using your own character, syncronizing with your team. But nah winning matches is top leet skill amirite

If you want to increase your skill go spvp, not running around in a group of 25 players with 3k+ armor and 17k HP. There is almost equally no skill in running around hitting 111111111 and the occasional 2-5 to blobbing in a group of 50. If you really want to test your skill in wvw, solo roam around the ruins and take on superior numbers.

I have seen this attitude before from SoR. A bunch of arrogant twits who think only what they do is skillful and look at their state now.

Ever heard of RIOT? I’m sure they can kick your kitten all the way to mars. Don’t think you are great because of beating SoS because they are one of, if not the least skillful server on average in the first 4 tiers.

An unforseen consequence may be a surge of elitism due to the increased value of a spot on the map.

and i think with transfer inscentive to distribute the top teir heavy competitive wvw concentration we could potentially see the incredible matchup variation that many have been asking for.

When WvW is going right, it looks like this:

In WvW you rely on the people standing next to you to sustain in fights. If everyone is not on the same page like the folks in the video, individuals who over-extend get zerged down, and with every player loss you loose your ability to stand up to a bigger force.

You’ll notice this guild will engage a zerg and disengage to heal at least once every 15 -20 seconds
