All that i can say is good about mesmer at the moment is the build diversity.

so OP, I’m in a “zergbusting” guild. We’re one of a few guilds on my server who know how to handle( Or can play around [lots of people on my server dont have top of the line computers, so they lag to kitten when they’re around huge numbers]) map queue zergs.
We zerg because we have to counter the larger zergs that we’re facing. There’s also the AOE cap(5) which makes it beneficial to zerg. 25-30 people standing in one aoe field takes not so much damage.

Although there is some guilds that have been on server since day 1, a majority of guilds hop around in order to preserve their guild’s happiness. Most GvG guilds move quite often. Some have transfered for seasons etc. Basically, the majority outnumbers the minority of loyal guilds. Just merge everything like megaserver/eotm and revive wvw.
Doesnt matter if PPT suffers, and one servers loses towers more often because of this etc. Clearly the PPT only model hasnt worked out for WvW/gw2
You’re right that most GvG guilds migrate, however, Transfering tends to destroy guilds, except for those GvG guilds who are highly motivated to transfer up for “fights”. There’s more alignment among GvG players with how they want to play, so it makes more sense for them to tranfer.
Many guilds have really struggled as a result of server hopping, and getting bored of the game and community. Most recent example I can think of: Huge guild on CD, moved to HoD (when they could move everyone because of free tranfers). Season ended, and they decide to take the plunge and move up again. They transfer up to JQ, and they are now a shadow of their former selves. Their driver abandoned them for another guild, and they are no longer a huge guild. I’ve seen the same thing happen to guilds that came to and from my own server.
All in all, telling folks to transfer does not solve the problem.

Mesmers get the nerf stick every patch, and have a ton of borked skills.
OP does not bring up Zerg busting guilds and I doubt he has or will be in one. Most players are the same. Top of the game is to bust map blobs and end those people’s karma train. Settling for what the majority is doing = casual

In my experience, the bird has about 20k health and hits for like, 1.5k
I normally play on a zerk shatter mes or a zerk theif, so it definitely hurts when the bird is out.
Would be a great runeset if the bird has as much HP as a mesmer clone or phantasm, instead of 20k hp.

That second link is the one where a dev notifies us about the development timetable for a new map.
There are lots of things we could do to balance WvW. Personally, I think the first priority should be balancing loot, and i’ll go a little bit deeper with that.
Defending + upgrading offers little to no reward, loot or wxp wise. IF you upgrade a tower, and run yaks and see the upgrade to completion you should receive worthwhile credit upon completion of the upgrade. could scale reward to the amount of supply required to complete the upgrade. Clearly the instant-complete upgrades (second worker, etc) would not offer a reward.
Loot in WvW is poor in comparison to other modes of the game, even EoTM which is a WvW inspired playground to test the megaservers has greatly improved rewards, and sentries that are actually fun to solo.
A priority should be to make sure that there is atleast the potential to earn similar levels of rewards from PvE to WvW. in 6 hours I can make almost 50 gold in PvE, If i’m being very successful in WvW ( lets assume nonstop PVD like what many SEA guilds end up doing) I should be able to make a similar amount of gold.
There should be more incentive to fight

Its really conditional. I have a set of PVT gear with melandru runes for times when I really need to sustain, and i have zerker armor with hoelbrak runes for when I need to be the dps.
If you want a blend of Damage and survivability, go Valk gear with cavalier trinkets. and opal orbs (get your crit chance back up to 30%)
Try a Sigil of Intelligence on your staff for extra damage.

I would add a condi engineer to your comp, if you have a guardian who is dedicated to support. If you use a shout heal warrior and support guardian, you could have the condi engineer for constant pressure, and a burst DPS focused teef, mesmer or ele to completely round out your group.

If you are not enjoying the server you are on, then you should move.
Switching weapons or typing /dance fixes it but I agree it is annoying and should have been fixed long ago.

I only use Arcane Thievery in 1v1s or in S/TPvP. It simply does not do enough in WvW to warrant taking up a utility slot.
Not that the skill would work with 900 range. Seems like its just another opportunity for the clone to hit an incline and stand there to scratch its butt before it gets rolled over by a zerg and does nothing.

There’s also the bug where you get immobilized in the air, or while blinking and you’re perma-stuck wherever you come down until you desperately type /no or some other emote. superb way to die.
I call the build frontline because I made it to stay in melee range, within the hammertrain. That said, being in the meele train does not change the people that you target (eles, mesmers necros thieves).

1: I havent been using this in a pug zerg, I use it when running with 13-18 other guildies.
2: I dont waste the shatters for the boons. Thats… wrong on so many levels
3: It was hard to move away from IP, but I found that I had more survivability, not less, and that mostly comes from the regen offered by BD and TD’s uptime.
4: I can still set up a 3 clone shatter (i leap, dodge, gs2, F#) You just need to time your stuff better.
Mesmers don’t need to focus on aoe, that’s not really their role. They’re periphery for picking off eles and necros, thieves and other mesmers, and providing group utilities like veil, null fields and timewarp.
I was running this build to see how I could still fill that peripheral gank role and be able to sustain in a bomb and be able to get out of it when the counter strike happens.
I think your build will probably work, but It will be very hard to do without much access to stealth. SA traits are pretty crucial to survivability in WvW, as most of the roamers you’re going to run into know what you’re(thieves) up to at this point.
That’s what i would recommend. the runes are cheap as hell, so its not a burden to buy the armor with badges.

Here is a frontline utility mesmer I’ve been running the last couple days. I’ve been toying around with this build while zergbusting. With this build it’s especially important that you tag all the downed enemies that you can to set up for as many triumphant distortions as you can manage. Play this build like a shatter mesmer
(If you’re not able to down and kill targets rapidly, you may not be as successful with this build.)
This build is using the new traits found in dueling and in chaos. I’ve found that in prolonged fights, the triumphant distortion saves me from a lot of damage. 3 seconds out of 10 is pretty kitten fine, and positioning is the key to the rest. Dropping a nullfield + Timewarp bomb is a very effective way to ensure that there are downs when you bomb a point.
Bountiful disillusionment has been more useful than I had anticipated, and with this build you have a lot of clone generation to gain the buffs like regen, fury and might when you want or need them.
You could also use Staff instead of Greatsword if you want to play a little more defensively.
I even won a duel with it. (that’s funny because triumphant distortion offers you NOTHING in a duel situation, so it was basically a wasted trait. Although that speaks volumes about how useful bountiful disillusionment is.)

I think if this were implemented it could make for a very noticeable change for folks, it provides some incentive for folks to come out to wubwub, and helps to reinforce good habits

you would be able to separate time zones (EU, NA, OCX, SEA) and still maintain server identities, while simultaneously reducing the perceived impact of complete domination from coverage.
It could be a different kind of scoring as well, calculated from the “wins” from those 3 hour matches

From my perspective-
Your stats are good ~ 30% crit is right where you want to be with 2200 power and 2600 armor.
IMO, Energy sigils are better than battle sigils, you already can generate enormous amounts of might without the battle sigil. I imagine you’re using the Air sigil for a bit more DPS, but I think that an Intelligence Sigil would suit you better.
Burning speed(crit) → lightning flash(crit) → Fire grab (crit) will wreck people.
Since you’ll be encountering conditions galore in WvW, I would choose Hoelbrak runes over strength as makku has suggested. They’re roughly equivalent in might stacking capability.
With your traits, they look good except for the water tree- I’d suggest that you get Soothing Disruption as opposed to Soothing Wave. You’ve traited for reduced cantrip mastery, might as well make the most of your cantrips, and cleansing water.
You’ll probably want Mist form if you’re hitting zergs with D/D.
Personally I always run powerful auras when I D/D.

The thing is current e-sports is all about 2 small 5-man teams fighting each other.
Anet could have changed this with 3 teams of 100 all fighting each other in a huge map!

unless it’s patch day and my server decides to take a hiatus.
like yesterday. Patch hit and our PPT dropped by 300 within the tick. I spent the rest of my afternoon just trying to hold down the borderlands which was literally impossible with our 5-10 vs 30.
Assuming that everyone could carry 20 supply (which is a kittenumption) it’s STILL impossible to defend a keep like bay, as Jeknar pointed out. In this context, as soon as you commit to defensive siege on a gate, the enemy knows that there are only so many of you, so they simply switch gates. Your team of 10 can only carry 200 supply at maximum, which is 4 super arrow carts. You built two which are useless at the other gate, and you need all 4 of them focused firing in a choke point to stop them in this context. (Dont even suggest regular AC. That kitten hits like a wet noodle)
I wouldn’t seek to blame EoTM for the problems we all have defending borderlands. and people dont kittening share the cost of upgrading. It’s the same 5-10 people who upgrade everything every week. The same people who run yaks, upgrade their siege from regular to superiors every week, and the same people who do the callouts in TS3.
WvW is steadily bleeding players out as they get frustrated with stagnation.
