4. For utilities, I use:
-Lightning Flash: This provides you with a 900 unit blink – which works while you’re channeling skills. Start a Meteor shower, the enemy zerg starts to roll over to you, you blink behind them and finish channeling your meteor shower! This skill is essential to avoiding damage and I never have it out of my toolbar.
-Mist Form: This is another essential utility that Eles can carry. It saves your life a thousand times over in Zerg V Zerg fights. When you CANNOT avoid the enemy hammer train, pop Mist Form, and scoot away! You’re invulnerable for three seconds and will survive even the heaviest hammer train with this utility. I use it to survive running through heavily sieged choke points ( you know, the ones where most of the zerg walks in and dies), in conjunction with double dodges. With both dodges, and the distance you can cover in mist form, you have an almost 1000 unit radius that you can move in any direction unimpeded with Mist form.
- Armor of Earth: This provides you 33% less damage, breaks stun, and provides stability. Stability is very important in WvW. If you’re in a group, try to use it sparingly if you can get stability from another member of your party. Keep it as a last defense. If you get snared, crippled, etc., remember that air 4
5. In most cases, you should be able to get into a tower/keep past a zerg right though the front door. (I’d say I can do it 98% of the time, depending on scouts/sight-lines.) Usually I just run up until I see the first guy run toward me (or try a ranged attack), then I hit mist, wait 2 seconds, then double-dodge, then hit stability. If you get downed before you’re in, use 2 to get in the gate if you’re close enough, then get back up when you’re out of combat.
6. Ether Renewal. Best friend. Using this heal forces you to take precaution since it’s so easily interrupted, but it will make you say " What conditions"
7. Don’t stay in the red rings. While this is not strictly an Ele thing, light classes need to pay attention to this much more than others. In very few cases, when you really need to stay in the rings, blast a water field where you need to be and hit Armor of Earth to mitigate the damage. Save your heal until you really need it. Most player spells won’t really kill you that fast, but focused AC fire can take you down really fast.
8. CC is your secondary reason for living. While you’re on tag, when the commander calls for CC, use Static (Air 5) to ring enemies so they can’t move, Frozen Ground (Water 4) to slow the enemy or Unsteady Ground (Earth 4) to cut off charges or retreats. This is what commanders mean when they call for “rings” and “lines”.
9. Got bags? Support Eles are supposed to do just that. So your primary focus should be Heal/CC. But don’t underestimate the bag-delivery potential of the Staff Ele AoE damage spells. Even the weak ones will tag your enemies so you get credit when they die. So while you’re on cool down, you can spam through them trying to land them on groups of enemies as you can. Or even Tab (or whatever you have Next Enemy bound to) and 1 all day long, and you’ll find tons of bags at your feet when the battle is over. As you get better at playing Ele, you’ll still even be standing!
Don’t forget, when you vapor form from the downed state, you can still pick up bags! if you’re going to die, and there’s bags on the ground, be sure to grab them with your downed vapor form.
D/D in a zerg is what i would call a “Skill Niche” as you need to be very good in order to manage it effectively. Serane is widely known for being an expert in this.
Here he is. He mainly plays D/D, Watch how he dodges around AoE, and uses the cantrips carefully.
you can see his build here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/elementalist/Serane-D-D-Ele-WvW-GvG-Dueling-Build/first#post4423054
(edited by Hamster.4861)
This is copy pasted from another post from many months ago (probably around the time of Season 2) If you authored this, you’re welcome to take credit. I’ve changed a couple sections, but it’s mostly the same
There are a number of possible builds. most are variations of a 0/x/x/6/6 build
As an ele you are both our critical water fields, and a primary part of our DPS.
T(oughness) > V(itality). Obviously you need both, but if you’re getting mowed down fast, you should be putting more into toughness. It’s pretty useless to buff your Vitality pool if people can eat through it really fast.
I run a Soldiers gear Ele for commanding, (PTV with Melandru Runes. You can see my build Here: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fFAQFAW...AACA7MQGglFA-w) Soliders gear is extremely survivable. If you are willing to put in the time and effort, Celestial stats are also viable, albeit a bit less tanky.
If you have a ton of Karma, you can get most of what you need from NPC vendors at the Temples in Orr.
Then run zerker items to balance it out. Some of the more hardcore players will mix armor sets to get a “perfect balance” that feels right to them. I’m don’t have that much patience. A good rule of thumb is: try to keep your Toughess >= 1600, and your armor at about 2500 or more. If you’re really trying to play support (short of a full-healer build), everything else is secondary to this stat.
Assuming your build is not gimping you, then you need to look at your play style in battles. To some extent, you’re going to have to learn by doing (and dying). Here are a few things I learned.
1. Stay on the tag. Sounds weird, a guy in a dress running around with Warriors in armor? Well, it turns out, you’re much less likely to die that way, especially if you’re in a group with others that can help buff you. Even if you aren’t, and I very often follow commanders while not in a group, you tend to benefit from buffs/heals anyway, but most importantly, you benefit from damage mitigation (most AOE damage only affects up to 5 members, except, importantly, siege weapons). Also, if you’re running on the outside, it will be much more likely someone will target you when they’re spamming for targets. Once they find a nice, squishy Ele, expect to die (until you learn all your escape tactics).
If you can learn how to stay with the tag (not easy, trust me, but you will get to that “aha!” moment), you’re going to find yourself much more effective and much more durable in big fights.
You dont need to dive in with the warriors and guardians in a big engagement, you can blink around the sides, and use staff Fire 4 (Burning Retreat) to dodge through the enemy zerg when the commander and hammer train is in the thick of a meelee battle. You have 1200 range. use it.
2. Don’t bring Daggers to a Staff fight. This doesn’t mean Staff > DD, in fact the opposite is true if you’re roaming solo (or trying to get to the zerg). But the Staff skills are designed to support large scale combat. Without them, you’re can’t really be a support Ele.
3. Don’t bring a Staff to a Dagger fight. One on one, you may as well /sit if someone attacks you and you’re holding a staff. Freaking uplevels can kill you. So, make sure you have daggers with you at all times, and equip them if you’re roaming. At least you’ll have a fighting chance. If you don’t have D/D experience, either just run around and die a lot until you learn, or jump into PvP. It’s basically the same tactics as WvW roaming, so it’s a really good place to practice. D/D is completely different than Staff when it comes to combat. You’ll need practice in both, but D/D (I found) is harder, but much more fun, to master.
Just another week in WvW. There is literally nothing that sets this week, next week, or the two weeks following that apart from the weeks preceding or following it
So don’t waste all your money upgrading stuff. Let others do it.
spoken like someone on a high population server. in T4 and lower, in general, if you dont upgrade it, no one will.
could use a buff.
I suggest lasers on their heads.
Hopefully it’s not copyrighted.
every week i loose more and more gold. Anet why wont you let me make money in WvW!? I’d even be happy if gold in = gold out. upgrading camps alone is taking a mighty toll on my wallet.
there’s bags out there to get, and the amount of work to get them is going up! cough siege disable cough
keep it simple! Full berserker 0/4/40/6 shatter build, Sword/pistol and staff. You can opt for the more traditional 4/4/0/6 shatter with boon ripping though. It’s up to you.
We’ve still got our eyes out for Warriors and Mesmers!
Bumpity Bump! Check out IoJ! We’re pretty neat
If you want to prevent Spawn camping, Give us the Vigil Megalaser from Teq and put two of em at the end of every spawn, facing the EB keep. Give it the range, and double the damage of a regular cannon.
enemy player walks over to your spawn, shoot with laser. enemy dies.
Earlier today I spent probably close to an hour killing the same terrible BG ele as he contested water gate over and over again. Every time I’d down him and every time he’d go to login screen before I could stomp him. He then, presumably, would log in dead, have to waypoint before entering WvW gain then run all the way back to do it over again. Most of the time he gave no wxp or loot. The intervals were 3 and half to 5 minutes. That seems a little excessive. Also, as WvWers our gold tends to come from lots of little pieces of loot that add up over time. We already get crap for rewards in general, more or less removing the potential to accumulate gold this way is a real kick in the pants.
This. Soooo much this.
I already make extremely small amounts of gold in WvW and when it gets to the point that I’m not even getting any loot from killing players, which is what i spend most of my time doing, It begs the question of why the kitten do i bother with WvW anyway.
Please Anet, I dont care if I get WXP for player kills, but dont touch my loot unless you’re gonna buff it!
Also, It doesnt help that the cost of getting increased supply delivery from your camps has been stealth-patched up to 10s. I wondered where all my gold was going.
Hey folks,
I’ve been playing around with the colored tags, and I’ve found that the Red commander tag is extremely difficult to see in combat.
I’m wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience?
Basically, when zergs collide, the red commander tag gets lost in all the red rings and other effects. Hoping there’s some consensus on the forum that this happens and the visibility of the RED tag could use some improvement. Perhaps darken the color of the tag to the same red as the (ctrl+T) target or something.
Mesmers, Warriors and Necros still in high demand! PM for information or check out our website!

can confirm. still works on supply depots though
IoJ is gearing up for seasons, Silver could be the most balanced tier in the entire game and we want to make it a blast!
Looking for Guardians and Mesmers to join the fray!
The season for bags is coming.
baegs.
Yes. Totally viable for teef. A friend of mine runs a Valk and Cav teef with Assassin trinkets and assassin weapons, and does very well
No it’s not
It’s already dead
yep. can confirm
You can start by not treating WvW as the solo exercise that PvE is.
Go into WvW during prime time (for your server) and join one of the WvW-centric guilds. Since you can be in five guilds simultaneously, this shouldn’t negatively impact your game at all.
Rolling with a WvW guild will definitely give you access to objectives of other colours. But do try to not be the kind of selfish user that that pops on to a map and says “Can we take ____?” when nobody knows you – it takes a group of people to take things in WvW, and you showing up as a tourist to see the sights and then leave forever isn’t going to dispose anybody to drop what they’re doing to help you.
So join them and contribute. If you find the group you’re in is close to a place you need, go ahead and suggest it. Give and take, right?
+100000000
as a commander, when a player comes in and asks something like, “can we take green keep?” i almost always /ignore them because they dont want to meaningfully contribute to WvW, they just want their Poi/vista and to get out, and I will not help them if it puts the zerg at un-necessary risk.
Keeping our eye out for Eles, Necros and Warriors!
Join the bagfest!

I’d love to expound, but truthfully 90% of the feedback I get from other Mesmers is negative and usually without any useful advice.
Some fellow Mesmer beats me in PVP and proceeds to tell me some variation of “l2p” then leaves.
That’s useless. I guess many of my peers are member of a secret society of the initiated Mesmers who know how the class “should” be played…because the community has failed to make this “higher knowledge” accessible many have trouble playing as Mesmers. Anet being a profit based company naturally decides to dumb down the class for the casual player. Thus, the community itself is responsible for the creation of a very easy to play Mesmer option
Cough.
When I picked Mesmer for my first character, it was clear that Osicat was the way to go.

After that a quick turn around youtube turns up MANY somethings like this:

and less than 2 minutes of searching around on the forums and we find all of these:

I’m rather surprised that you make the assertion that:
“because the community has failed to make this “higher knowledge” accessible many have trouble playing as Mesmers."
did you even look?
If all else fails, click this link and all the “higher knowledge” will be bestowed on you.

I hate when i run into a good Chaotic Interruption mesmer. Those kittens.
Full berserker armor, Energy sigil on your staff. 0/x/x/6/6
(2 in air for bolt to the heart or zephyr’s boon, or 2 in earth for extra stability at 50% hp)
Traits in water are soothing wave, aquamancers alacrity, and cleansing water
traits in Arcana are Blasting Staff, Elemental Attunement, and Evasive Arcana
run ether renewal, and lightning flash, mistform, and Armor of Earth. For the moment, Tornado is the elite to use, we’ll see where we stand after the 9th of September.
This build will give you an enormous amount of burst-heal potential with fields and the evasive arcana. You have an enormous capacity to cleanse conditions, both on yourself and your allies.
Make sure that you learn to use all the evasion that you have available. Don’t sit and tank a bomb, use your lightning flash to get a way. If you are about to get rolled over by a zerg, use mist form, Burning Retreat, dodge rolls, etc. most of your skills are 1200 range, make sure that you use it appropriately
Watch and learn
the formation is: Front line on pin (guardians and warriors, and other very tanky support)
and back line(Eles, Necros, Mesmers ) keeping the frontline between them and the enemy zerg
you could transfer off SoS to a server where WvW exists
Got this bug when i opened my TP. Screenshot attached
IoJ looking to stabilize in T3! Help us make a 6 silver server rotation possible
In a mid size zergbusting guild I made about 85g from all the rare and exotic drops the last few weeks! The NA primetime zergs are real, and if you’re looking for blobs to bust and bags to farm, IoJ is the place to do it.
Walls are just a way to funnel more bags into a kill zone.
Check us out!
I’m not even convinced adding Might and swiftness to the boon rotation of PU is a nerf. If you play aggressively with PU, then this will be a fabulous change for you.
It’s not useless. It let’s low-population servers know when an enemy zerg has arrived on the map and what kind of attacks to prepare for.
That’s why it should be removed.
because the biggest zerg on the map totally needs another advantage
week 1: doubleteam blackgate

With the release of Feature Pack 2 on September 9th, WvW players who reach rank 10,000 will be able to continue earning WXP and rank-up chests.
Jessica, please take a moment to consider how much time this player has put into WvW. Is it fair that he/she reached rank 10,000 and that he doesn’t get a piece of EPIC loot for his/her effort?
Should be a forced ascended drop for this rank up specifically. Precursor would be a great present too. 10k WvW ranks is an absurd level of dedication and should be rewarded accordingly. The only thing left is to see if he can get yakslapper before he dies.
No no, NOO.
LEt it be as it is. It’s ok. IF rewards will rise higher and higher then farming wxp will make sence for “farmers” and they will farm it as WXP.
I didnt say scale the rewards as the ranks rise, I said for the 10k chest SPECIFICALLY.

I run a Bountiful Shatter build, 0/4/4/0/6
Sword Pistol and Staff.
The boons, the 3300 power and the 16k 3 clone+IP shatter
I am also super duper excited for this change. SUPER DUPER. Staff FTW!
I run Sword/Pistol and Staff when roaming.
If you want to make the most of your staff, you should consider Bountiful Interruption as a trait, as well as Masterful Reflection (It’s hilarious when pistol teefs try to burst you *edit: Or rifle warriors. Or rangers. Or rifle engis)
When you’re taking camps, the chaos storm will get you 18-25 stacks of might with BI, and you will get a magical boost to 3300 power. I put illusionary Elasticity in there because come september Staff will be ze bestest.
(edited by Hamster.4861)
for me it’s a no. Condition mesmers are very strong, especially when traited with PU. you just condi bomb and let them struggle to clear, and condi bomb them again. They kill themselves just trying to kite you by running away.
If anything needs a buff, it’s shatter.
Trying to find some consensus, I know that rezing through a gate, ( like at Bay Watergate) is considered poor form and a cheap trick, but is it considered an exploit?
Post your opinion.
I’ve seen people hide dead at a WG for hours, which takes dedication, both from the defenders and the mesmer.
Well done OP!
and that ultimate dominator shuts up just about everyone =P
We’re looking for some guardians, worker warriors and eles to join us in our rampage!
send a mail in game =D
IoJ has a lot of opportunity for zergbusting, especially in NA
but all are welcome.
If you’re interested in an outnumbered challenge, and bringing the fight, send us a mail
(Picture from shennanigans in some N camp)
IoJ has a very good EU presence, and we excel at doing more, with less as our server has comparatively small zergs compared to the servers around us. We have a few guilds who run in this time zone and many pugs. Lots of opportunity for fun.
IoJ has OCX as well. In order i’d say they’re SoS, DB, CD and IoJ
T2 has just fallen apart with the leading guilds being bought up into the top tier. T3 is the most competitive, with CD, YB, SBI and DR and DB being in the T3 range.
CD has best coverage, SBI blobs the best, YB defends the best and DR has the strongest NA, but no off hours coverage. literally nothing. I havent seen DB in months and months so i cant really speak to their qualities, but i believe they are known for their SEA time K trains
Arenanet, for the LOVE OF GOD do not make colors for the commander tags 300g.
I do not know whether it should be 50g and 2k badges (might give me something to spend my badges of honor on) or whether it should be a flat 100 gold, but PLEASE
not that expensive. It would take me weeks and weeks and weeks of farming DR to make that happen.
