It’s not a step in the right direction, it’s the exact opposite: it encourages all the wrong types of gameplay.

Seriously. What server are you on? You must be on a relatively large pop server.

We are up against DB this week, and this hasn’t helped us at all. They can afford to have scouts/defenders and keeps. We don’t. We don’t have the population. Sure, we can ninja a keep. We did so. Tra la la. It’s gone in 5-6 mins (after RI is over). Just like EOTM. Half the time, while trying to ninja a keep with 5 or 6, we get steamrolled by a DB zerg of 20 or 30. After the 10th time, I’ve given up.

Really, the ONLY way we can get the attention of Anet on this is to not show up for a week. Especially if we get DB for a 4th week in a row (we’ve faced them 3 weeks in a row already). But that isn’t likely to happen.

I’m right there with you misterman, even if our servers, (red and blue) were united against our larger opponent we would still struggle. over the course of the day, there are possibly 5-10 guilds that rally people on each of our servers, compared to the 14-16 guilds that are rallying against us on DB.

How much gold does it take to make an ascended set for D/D? I’m getting my tailoring up currently. Just hit 300, woo! I have the recipes for ascended celestial as I knew that’s what I wanted for a roaming build and even for group content with D/D or even a staff. Metabattle recommended soldier gear for staff back lining. Does that sound right?

What can I craft via tailoring to raise money for ascended gear? I also want a zerker set for PvE and LS content. Can I craft exotics at a certain point do I have that to work with while waiting for ascended?

Metabattle’s backline recommendation is what i would call a “SAFE” ALL CAPS option. If you check videos posted online by popular eles, they’re almost all 100% zerker.

you should be positioning yourself so that you take little to no damage, and you have cantrips available to keep yourself from taking damage. (STAFF ONLY)

Now that we’re significantly farther into the “no white swords” and we’ve all had time to adjust has anyone revised their position on this change?

A pattern that I’ve been seeing in this and other threads is that this change affects T1 and T2 the least – most likely due to population.

Several very low tier servers have gone full potato Ktrain mode. There seems to be a lot more diversity of thought in Mid-tier servers. I think it would be beneficial to hear a bit more from T6-3 NA and EU players, as they’re probably the bulk of players outside of gold leagues in both NA and EU.

What i’m seeing repeated is that posters from balanced tiers, or with stable populations (T2+) are more likely to approve of the change.

Defensively minded players in matchups where there are not enough players are quitting entirely (no upgrades, no saving keeps, fewer call-outs are all symptomatic of defenders getting fed up doing something else)

Offensively minded players like this change because it means they get to PvD and take stuff without getting stopped.

Fighters do not like this change as it’s impossible to draw out a fight by tapping structures,

Roamers do not like this change because they wander aimlessly following sentry flips, camp flips and yaks and are finding fewer and fewer fights. As the fights dwindle, the roamers move to SPvP, because you can’t NOT fight them in there. Roamers leaving affects defenders, and you’re in danger of slipping into a negative feedback loop.

T2 probably has the best action that you’re looking for, NA or EU,

OS is fairly quiet in other tiers, you normally will need to try and reach out to other server leaders to organize a fight night, so everyone knows to go to OS for duels.

Can you say why full zerk shatter is lackluster for you? it’s as balls to the wall as a 66200 D/D thief.
I roam on shatter mesmer almost every day, and i get a huge amount of pleasure from killing thieves from 90% to 0 inbetween heartseekers. There’s also picking off the slow eles and necros from the back of enemy zergs which can be enormous fun if you use portals to escape.

TBH, I just run the trait, Masterful Reflection.

If you’re zerker, you’re not going to miss out on much crit chance for your F1, and you can totally screw over a ranger with a well time reflect on F4.

i find that a traditional shatter build with this small change is enough to end the rangers if you’re able to burst after your reflect.

As a GS/Staff shatter build you will struggle against a LB pew pew ranger, since you dont have an effective way to evade his burst (blurred frenzy) nor gapclose outside of blink. I would suggest sword/pistol and GS.

In my experience, what you’ve described is an excellent dueling and ganking build. In fact, you’ve described what I solo roam with on my elementalist in WubWub.

However, PvP is only loosely about getting ganks, the primary focus is point control, which is why Celestial D/D eles have an advantage over you. I’ve fought a fair number of cele eles while roaming and all i can really say is that there’s a big difference when there’s no point to stand on. For the same reasons hambow is not really in the the wvw roaming meta.

FGS should give you what you need in terms of mobility to GTFO. I’m not really sure what else you would want or need to make it a viable DPS and gank in PVP

Power vs Condition when roaming

in my experience, roaming as a power build is much more fun than condition builds.
People will stay to fight you because their auto attack hits you really hard compared to the tanks they’re used to hitting.

It feels like you’re playing skillfully, because if you do not dodge the enemy burst, you’re probably going to die. That means you need to be able to read your enemy to some degree.

A burst battle between a shatter mesmer and a D/D thief happens so fast that most players can’t even process what happens. landing an I-leap and swap, mirror images +Mindwrack+distortion+decoy+cry of frustration in the time it takes for the D/D thief to CnD and try to backstab, is a very short window of time. Both of those combos are probably near, if not instant kills on another glass cannon. Neither is OP because both of them are taking an enormous risk (if you consider dying in a video game a risk) to get great damage.

Condition builds however, in my experience were not as much fun to play as the glass cannons. You’re tanky. you’ve got a huge health pool, once you’ve applied you are forced to reposition to avoid the enemies burst, if they don’t run away. If they dont, you get to watch them squirm as your cripples, bleeds and burns whittle their HP away in a slow, unstoppable march to their doom.

I know many a solo roamer who simply /laugh and run around condi roamers, thieves who SR and waypoint away while the condi players try to AOE pressure around themselves. You can pick them out by their food and wrenches, and many players will go through great lengths to avoid condi builds.

I’ve also gotten the impression that there is very little respect for players who use condition builds (especially in WvW roaming) UNLESS you’re one of those players who legitamately takes 10 players to take down like a dire-krait bleed teef who dodge-rolls over dolyaks to bleed them to death and then laughs as defenders chase him and get bled to death themselves. However, those players are 1 in 10,000.

Hello Everyone,

We’ve all had our intitial reaction, and a little bit of time to play around with the removal of white swords. I’m hoping we can get a few responses from people in different tiers (1-8 US and EU) to describe what the experience of having no white swords was like. Take a moment to describe the context of your experience (outnumbered, fairly equal, outmanning an enemy) and how the removal of white swords impacted WvW in your community.

For me, in Tier 3 NA Red and Blue are very much outnumbered by green and defending has been the top priority for both red and blue. As i understand it green is bored.

On Defense: As I went through my afternoon trying to upgrade keeps and camps with the 5-10 others who also spend their afternoons upgrading and preparing for NA primetime, would move from keep to camp and find they were just gone. In the time it took these solo roamers to pull, kill, capture and upgrade a camp, the keep would flash green (sometimes blue) behind them.
Occasionally, one of these stalwart defenders would be near enough to the keep to see the “defense” event appear on their GUI, but with the amount of time that it takes (2 min and change) for the other roamers to converge on the keep being assaulted, it would be too late, and our numbers too few to fend off the assault, and the keeps were gone. Okay, keep’s gone, now the roamers spread back out in order to detect the next enemy movement. However, the enemy just ninajed an upgrading keep from us and they are now +5ed with supply, and they can run from their waypoint to one of the other keeps before our defenders can disperse through the map again.

Since we needed to have people everywhere in order to be our eyes and ears, we did not have enough players to respond to call-outs and maintain our defensive perimeter. This is the frustrating and tedious task that removing white swords has made of defending for my servermates, and i imagine the players for blue as well.

Playing offensively however, was like a whole new world. We tried a whole host of new confusion tactics, splitting our raid into 6 groups of 3 and hitting every camp on the map simultaneously and having the northern camp flippers meet at a Northern tower, and southern camp flippers a southern tower and flipping them both. We moved between enemy borderlands, executing this tactic every time the conditions were present for it.

Against someone who is just as outnumbered as we are, Keeps were as simple as checking : Do you have Supply? Do you have less than 25 players?
Then you just lay the rams out and PVD to get through the paper gates as fast as possible.There was no challenge involved in taking objectives like this. I despise arrow carts, but one of the only things i despise more is Ktraining. It’s boring, and makes your players lazy when they should be attentive. I’ve gotten literally thousands of kills off of players who are PVDooring or so caught up in their k train that they’re not paying attention to their environment in my 4k hours of WvW.

Against our big green brother, the towers, and the camps were mincemeat. They had similar issues to what we had with defending, but in reverse. They had waypoints in all of their keeps, and several scouts in each keep who would take turns rotating out of the keep to periodically check on the towers, but they would be gone when they got there. Assaulting the keeps was a game of cat and mouse. You would damage a gate or a wall as much as you could before a scout would appear, and a blob somewhere would turn to glare in your direction. By glare, i mean waypoint to the nearest keep and go go gadget greatsword towards the keep you were assaulting.

Most of this gameplay was done in borderlands. My time in Eternal Battlegrounds led me to believe that very little was changed there, the blob rolls in, you dont need to have the white swords anyway, because the orange swords appear first.

That was my experience playing WvW without the white swords. I’m interested to hear what other kinds of experiences players have had without white swords in other tiers. When you post, please try to make it clear what tier you are in without using your server names. (ex: Tier 3 NA, Tier 7 EU, etc…)

Hey Anet, I like how you’ve re-organized the forum, except for the glaring issue of the World Recruitment subforum being completely missing from your archive.

I think it’s narrow or absent minded of you to close that particular forum, as many guilds, servers had active recruitment threads which were posted and maintained there to draw new players into active communities.

Now, I dont care if you re-activate that section of the forum, Servers and guilds will find other ways to recruit, like reddit, but the official forum was the best venue for it. Please at least find a way to put the World Recruitment section in the archive where we can access it, if you don’t want to activate it entirely.

600 is a lot, how many hours did it take you? Did you farm zergs with a WvW guild or play in public zerg?

farm was over a 2 hour 45 minute period, raiding with guildies, 20-25 + pugs who came and went over the course of the rally. We were fighting zergs that were larger than us by at least 25-50%

No had a pre-cursor drop? What is your /age?

Why Wvw fails to attract players

The main reason that WvW fails to attract players is that Cooperation is a requirement for server success.. WvWvW at the very core of it is a game of knowledge and information, whether that be via communication, reading enemy movements, voip or otherwise.

Unlike other parts of guild wars, where we have been given challenging event chains and opponents to beat in the game environment, World Vs.World is where all of your enemies are people who think and react just like we do. Thus World Vs. World is much less predictable than other areas of the game. For these reasons, the meta in WvW is Cooperate or Die.

Another reason that WvW doesn’t attract players is because you really, truly can get outplayed super hard, and there is nothing you can do about it until the synergy of your group, the ability of your players to work together improves. Many people are not interested in putting effort into getting better at playing with their peers, for a variety of reasons.

World vs World is a niche environment in Gw2, and requires fairly specialized builds and group composition to succeed, and those builds and group compositions differ based on the total number of players that are available. It’s troublesome to learn the in-n-outs of 1vx compared to 5vX , 10vX and 15+vX.

The specialized builds and compositions are based around roles that each class can fill better than every other class, and lots of folks don’t want to feel pidgeon-holed into a build, or a style of play.

The most important thing to remember is that population + coverage = win with the current structure of WvW, and my proposal has some suggestions to alleviate that. It is pretty dull playing on borderlands in triplicate though. I agree completely.

I used to run a CI/Shatter build which was quite interesting while i was learning to play mesmer in WvW.

Soldier Armor, perplexity runes , 2 soldier trinkets, 4 zerker trinket
Zerker Staff, Sword, Pistol

Ether feast, mantra of distraction, blink and decoy

0/2/6/0/6 (dueling: phantasmal fury Chaos: Debilitating Dissipation, Bountiful Interruption and Chaotic Interruption Illusions: Masterful Reflection [rangers yo! pre-rapid fire buff I would run the confusion duration trait] Illusionary Invigoration and Illusionary Persona )

You should have around 2100 power and 600 condition damage (plex runes + 300 from illusions trait tree)

This goes pretty deep along the “get everything you can out of interrupts” path. When you land an interrupt, you will apply 5 stacks of confusion. gain 5 stacks of might and a random boon, and immobilize + blind, chill or cripple your enemy. Skills like Chaos storm on top of a group of enemy players or NPCs can frequently net you 25 stacks of might and a wide variety of other boons.
you get to be a very careful player, you don’t ever faceroll your skills because you need to score intterupts for the build to really sing. (I was using this build before MoD was an aoe spike, so in terms of balance this build has been buffed since i made it)

the Staff gives you the ability to position, even when you’re facing a class with gap- closers.

You will retain your ability to secure stomps by having Illusionary Persona. Having the F4 (distortion) available instantly is a humongous lifesaver that comes into play all the time, whether you’re getting rolled over by a zerg, or bursted by a glass cannon.

exotic soldiers stuff is available for Badges of Honor in WvW, and for Karma at the Temple of Grenth in Orr.

now, I havent done the math, but if you’re traited for Illusionary Elasticity, you’ll be applying a great deal of fury to your party which will keep damage of other players high for the absence of your actual DPS from auto attacks.

I warlock hits like a freaking truck, and should not be discounted. Since GS sucks in dungeons, you might as well use staff if you’re going to have a 2h weapon.

Huge undertaking - Fastest way to solo keeps?

No one seems to be answering the question. The players whom I know to have the greatest success soloing keeps have done it on Thieves.

The specifics of how they do it, i’m not entirely sure. It probably consists of using a condition build to bleed and backstab a keep lord into submission, and using cloak and dagger to keep aggro manageable.

An important thing to remember would be to kill the guards in sequence, not in a stack, that way they dont all respawn at once while you’re concentrating on the lord. If they respawn one at a time, you’ll be much better able to dispatch them and then move back to killing the champion without getting stunlocked and wrecked.

I’ll ask some of my friends who solo keeps and stonemist for their secrets. i’ll post again if i get anything valuable

Trooper runes for WvW if you want a cheaper alternative, the best is Hoelbrak runes. That would help you more in WvW and in PvE.

If you’re in WvW, and you have warriors around, the combination of guardians clear and warriors clearing conditions should make it so that you dont really need the trooper runes for the condi clear. Hoelbrak will synergize well with the -condition duration foods that you would be using in WvW. When you’re standing in Purging Flames, you’ll have -90% condition duration with the hoelbrak runes. That, in addition to the might duration and stacking affects of the rune, are why Hoelbrak runes are the meta for GvG.

All soliders armor with zerker accesories and weapons is going to be a tad bit glassy for the work you’d be doing on a guardian in WvW. 3 zerker accessories/3 soldier and a knights weapon might be just right though.

you’ll want to have 3k armor for wvw, that’s all you will really need, some people like more than that though. even if you’re not Mr beefcake, you’ll be able to get your crit chance up, and have decent criticals. All of that will do nicely when you have might stacks, and you’ll be able to help your allies by applying damage in addition to plain old not dying.

If you choose to go tankier than 3k armor, consider Runes of the Pack to keep your damage output high.

Air/Fire sigils on the GS are very good. they can make a regular auto attack plink down a squishy target’s hp by almost 50% in one AA if both of the sigils proc.

IMO, S/F eles are very strong. A zerker amulet ele running 0 6/0/4/4 S/F is a perfectly viable dueling elementalist, and fares well against teefs, less well against mesmers of the PU variety (especially if they’re good at chaining their stealth to maintain the most invisibility time). Most thieves are more predictable in stealth in comparison to a mesmer in a 1v1 setting.

with the focus offhand, you are able to complete rotations that are offensive and defensive, the latter while you wait for your phoenix and lightning flash to come off cooldown. Start in fire, 2, 4, 3 (LF) 5 -> switch to air, (321)and when you’re almost ready to leave air for another attunement, use swirling winds and rotate to earth(23). If you’re fighting a ranged hero, you’re now at a slight advantage within the swirling winds. apply damage with earth 2 and blind, watch and wait for a burst to use your obsidian flesh or reflect for a melee or ranged burst respectively. Switch to water heal, (453)comet and chill them, and your fire burst should be ready yet again.

equally glassy classes like thieves and mesmers who are not prepared for you can and will die in less than 3 seconds (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4c2XBKKmDrQ&feature=youtu.be&t=12m21s), and the focus skills give you much of the defensive utility that you need for a sustained fight, as well as a clutch CC skill that will secure many a burst.

While it takes significantly more care to set up fire fields and finishers with s/f, you are still able to blast the dragon tooth, phoenix, magnetic wave and comet on the fire 4 fire field.

You can fall off of stuff and die in PvE, too. One of the first things I did in GW2 was fall through the middle of Rata Sum to my death.

I think you really should bring enough armor or something to WvW that you don’t die on the stairs of any of the structures. Otherwise, you must be rally bait.

cant tell if trolling but, falling damage is definitely a % of your HP. How much armor you have is irrelevant to gravity.

Only if the same logic follows for all AOE, a meteor shower is still a shower, so i should be able to drop meteors off the same cliff. in fact, almost all of my high damage staff ele skills “drop” something.

how about Ice bows?! they’re better than the ranger longbow anyway.

Okay i’m starting to go off the rails. In short, it would be much harder than you think. the skill animations have a Y axis, and it’s not a dynamic property. You can already auto attack with the ranger LB to far greater range than is listed in the tool tip by shooting down such a cliff as you’ve described, as long as you have a target.

If we applied physics uniformly to other weapons, not just the Longbow, you could get killshot by a rifle warrior 2000 units away just because you happened to stray into it’s path.

I was running Edge Of The Mist for fragments to complete my armors (which i did, yay), and i came across something new to me. We got farmed. It became obvious anywhere the train went, there would be a zerg there waiting for us. People explained it thinking there was a spy doing this to annoy people.

While this is bad karma and you’ll go to hell for it, not much can be done about it. I’m just wondering, does he get anything out of this? Besides annoyed peoples? And is it common?

TBH, there was a guild, and they were bored. OR they were getting blobbed to death in their WvW matchup, and they wanted some fun.

WHY these people will go to hell for stopping your K train, I’m not sure, but i WILL be sure to take my guild farming in EOTM this week just so we can farm progress on Realm Avenger. Lord knows you only get 500 kills per rally in WVW proper, but if we go to EotM and float around the overflows, that can double or quadruple to 2k kills in a single rally.

I’m not gonna lie, its EOTM. you dont need a spy to tell where the zergs are. Any commander worth a lick of salt would be able to look at the map and know where you are anywhere you go as long as you capture everything that you touch. Being in EOTM, you WILL capture everything you touch, so you’re gonna get tracked and hunted down. like a deer, or some other kind of game that gets hunted.

When you’re in regular WvW, there are reasons that commanders will say stuff like, “ignore this sentry” or “dont kill this yak”. It’s because they’re trying to leave as little of a trail as possible. Players DO watch the map for every change, whether it be sentries moving and dying, yaks moving inside their camps, or yaks dying on their paths and gettin slapped.

Even if you’re not having fun getting farmed, the players that are farming you are having a blast. If we invent a law of conservation of fun, then everything is okay.

P.S. you’re a horrible judeo-christian if you actually believe or wish people will go to hell for farming your k train. grow up.

EU WvW profession metas

from my brief vacation to EU, It was my experience that NA players are running tankier than their EU counterparts.

Your average NA player would run a lot more un-necessary tankiness than your average EU player, who would be balls to the wall berserker .

IMO the skill level was higher in EU as well. Even in T4 EU you find a more serious attitude to the players in WvW that is not seen in NA until you reach the boundary of T3/2.

Between the three of them, they probably have more people engaged in WvW than all of bronze leaugue, and all of this is done under the guise of “getting people more engaged in wvw”?

I dont think so… They are literally taking turns getting first place. It could be so much fun to totally shut down a server during their “push week” but yall seem content to roll over and let the situation stagnate.

You are extremely capable 1v1 and 1vx, just dont get stunlocked.

You have a Shortbow for camps if you desire to use it.

You dont actually need to swap weapons, you can stay in S/D the whole time.

Thrill of the crime will give swiftness to you and yaks and your party (fury too)

In short – A GvG is a 10v10, 15v15, 20v20 or 25v25 deathmatch.

You are not allowed to res stomped players. If they can be rezed with a warbanner, or hard-rezed from the downed state, it’s okay.

if you’re able to get out of combat without getting ganked by the opposing team’s gank, i dont see why not. unlikely that you’ll be able to do this without totally screwing your team over, but it’s not “against the rules”

you, and your guild will be called little kittenes if you all run gem store buffs. Show some respect to the other team and don’t try to give yourself unfair advantages.

Clear your stacking sigil stacks every round by un-equiping your weapons.

Tough luck if you have players DC, just w/ the driver of the other team. Most guilds are understanding. Same thing applies if spectators do kitten to you, like moa your elementalists, or free-cast meteors on the whole fight. (i’ve seen players from server C do that to GvGing servers A and B ) Most respectable guilds will not count that round against you.

Line up at the end of the GvGs and /bow and brawl (everyone can join the brawl, even you guys in the stands) until everyone is dead.
