Definitely helps against a lot of thieves too, as they tend to attack in rapid succession, making a strung out Diversion pretty effective. Not going to help against every Thief, but a whole bunch of them blow themselves up when interrupted. I’d say Masterful Reflection is another oft overlooked trait as well, that can actually help a whole lot in PvP.

Masterful reflection is my favorite trait (outside of iPersona/DE of course). Nothing better than having a LB rapid fire ranger blow himself up. Then hate whisper you for playing something cheesy.

When our server does not have a commander, would our server benefit if a tagless guild commander would tag up – and move to our server’s ts from guild’s private ts?

Sure guilds may have their private runs, but when there is no commander, it probably is not a bad idea to remind that it is our server’s map, not guild’s private map. We have many pugs who wishes for a commander when there is none.

I feel like i’m in a good place to answer this question – I’ve pugmanded for more than 2000+ hours, but now i lead guild raids every day, sometimes tagged, most of the time, not.

for starters, commanders that can get their zergs in and out of outnumbered situations, alive, are exceptionally rare. Players who know how to place siege, and manage supply in their zerg, are very common. (seriously, placing siege is easy, and it’s harder to count calories than to remember how much supply your zerg has picked up)

As for why I dont tag up for the server as much anymore-

1. We are not aggressively PPTing. If you want to do more for the server, you’re better off following someone else. Our rallies are not about capturing structures, they’re about working on our GROUP SYNERGY, how we move, fight, and sustain as a group against other organized groups of players.

2. It’s infuriating. Militia don’t pay as close attention to the commander as they should, they’ll afk at gates, walls and other attack points, and get 1 pushed when another zerg pushes them with a veil. Since they’re too lazy to run in circles with the frontline and the commander,(damage mitigation) and thus they wipe the entire zerg. Many militia struggle with focusing damage, blasting fields, and of course, moving with the commander.

3. Militia don’t ask the commander what the zerg needs to be balanced (frontline/backline). They’ll bring whatever they want and expect me to be grateful about it.

4. Have you tried to get militia to dodge-roll through a coordinated enemy push? It doesn’t happen

5, We’re in the server TS, just in our guild channel. When we see militia following us, we tell them to join us in TS in /S to reduce the afore-mentioned rallybotting. What we don’t do, is advertise in /T for people to join us, because we want to keep our group smaller than 25 players

6. Militia join my zerg, and then try to backseat command because we’re not PPTing aggressively enough for their taste, which is just a bit annoying.

There’s also that I’m burned the hell out of this game, and I don’t have fun struggling to upgrade a whole borderland with my guild anymore. I also have lost a lot of the energy that I used to put into training people for ZvZ fighting, and I’ve focused my energy instead on developing a guild organized around zergbusting and fighting players, not doors.

Being able to pay your own way is nice, but we definitely had someone approach us and say, “we’ve got 80,000 gold, and we’d like to buy your community. Everyone.”

I don’t know which T2 server you’re talking about, but if its YB I can assure you that its false.

It has been this way for months…. Poor nsp – ioj got pounded forever. Not sure if ioj was poached (think so) or just tanked to get out of that mess (makes sense) or a little bit of both….

IOJ wasn’t poached I don’t think… All it took was for a server to superstack itself into t2, destroying t3 completely and forcing many t3 refugees to move to t2 of which they say we destroy thier game mode by leaving t3 and further stacking t2…

STACKCEPTION.

IoJ was definitely poached. 4 guilds to FA, 1 to mag to revive PYRO and magswag.
~100 regular wvwders + 2 offhours coverage raid guilds bought up by T2, made the difference to drop us from T3 to the top of T5

After looking at the traitlines for the Revs, it seems like they’ll be extremely useful as a midline heavy. They gain a lot of their strength through eating conditions – so the revenants could be very useful for tanking the corruption wells and necro marks.

If a necromancer is a middle range backliner, a revenant could be a middle range front-liner, to eat up the conditions and convert it into something that makes you stronger.

With the new changes it should be quite exciting to see the meta change. I think we’re going to have to do a lot more tactical play, there will have to be more of outsmarting your opponent than out-muscling them. There will be a great deal of baiting your enemies into pushing, or wasting their cooldowns. Either way it should be fun.

The conditions isn’t what kills you lol it’s the raw physical damage from the wells that does. Damaging conditions have no effect in zergbusting because it’s all done away with by -Condi duration and stray group cleansing.

I’m aware that damaging conditions have no effect, the ones that really kill you are the soft CC, cripple, chill, immobilize. I’m suggesting that one could use revenants to bait the range bomb, and then once they’ve soaked up a few conditions, one could push.

It’s all theory anyway, we’ll have to wait until we have our hands on the rev to find out.

Did everyone forget that lines exist? Now stability will only block a finite number of stuns, but line skills allow you to apply an infinite number of stuns. How do you expect to be able to push a choke or even close to melee range with an enemy group when they can strip all of your stability stacks instantly?

perhaps this is exactly what this balance is supposed to do. The fact that 1 line of warding is exactly as powerful as 10 (assuming they’re all, like in your example, in a choke point)

with the stability change, the walls will definitely be much stronger than they are now

an old friend of mine used to do the same thing, but as a PTV Thief with mercy runes, and the trait where you stealth whomever you’re rezing. Was stupid good in roaming/small groups.

Marmatt, you are certainly getting the WvW forum treatment. I’d believe you represent the average WvW player, considering your rank, time spent in WvW, and kills.

The only thing you’ve ommitted is whether or not you’re also a commander, but, that’s not so important for your work here.

I’ll hope that you can see through the vitriol that you are going to get a lot of ( and already have), and get to the nuggets of really very good advice that can be found on this forum, there are many.

I hope that you’ll look closely at many of the most frequent posters to this forum – your thread has almost everyone who comes here for entertainment in it already. Get a feel for their voices, their sarcasm, and do what you can to try and understand what has driven them over the wall with frustration.

If you want to roam, you can do well with just about every class,
I’d recommend Warrior(4/0/4/0/6) Thief(6/0/2/0/6) or Mesmer (4/4/0/0/6).

I also recommend that you look up some videos on youtube, for the classes that you DO want to try.

Engineer can be super, duper silly.

Im kinda new to the game (level 50ish on 2 characters) but im really interested in roaming, from what i’ve seen on streams seems really fun however i saw few people saying that HoT WvW changes will completely kill roaming, can some of the more experienced WvW players tell me how true is that ? (from HoT changes that we know will happen)

It’s impossible to know whether HoT changes will kill roaming until we get our hands on the new map.

All Anet have said is that the towers will be situated on strategically important ground. If you want to control movement around the map, you will need to control the towers.

Besides possibly limiting the scope of the area in which you can roam, it’s not going to affect roaming at all.

There is no solution that folks are going to be happy with.

The way I see it, we could condense servers 8-24 into anywhere from 8 to 10 servers, down from 17.
you’d still have your small scale combat servers, and more “blobby” servers, until you get up to gold league, where PPT Coverage wars take over

They’re both different playstyles and you’ll enjoy both of them I believe.

Elementalists are the heart of sustain for WvW, you’re literally in charge of keeping the whole zerg alive with well timed water fields and CC.

Guardians do the bulk of absorbing and mitigating damage, with their Shelter heal, and renewed focus, as well as keeping their entire party alive with protection, and keeping their party moving through enemy CC with stability.

Between the two of them, you’ll need to decide whether you want to play in the front line, or the backline.

If you can’t be vocal with a microphone in teamspeak, I would suggest that you choose the guardian. Being an ele is great, but if you can’t tell the melee train that they’re standing in a water field (which they should blast) then you’re going to find it a lot harder to be effective.

Well, I did say “normal” and not “balanced”. And the OP was talking about a week in which the rank 4 server was against the rank 9 and 10 servers. So by comparison, 4 5 and 6 for tier two and 7 8 and 9 for tier three is about as normal as it gets.

There isnt any significant difference between rank 4, 5, 6 or 7 to either of the other two servers in T3.

You see that in last week’s matchup there was a T4 in that mix? It’s significantly different to T4 to have a T2 server against it.

I’m just trying to make the point that it doesnt matter who from silver league is in T3. They’re going to get utterly rekt by the population difference between rank 7+ and EVERYONE ELSE.

First post doesn’t make me a troll buddy it just means I after many years of gaming have learned to avoid forums for the most part. However, I needed to vent after this last weeks match up with my server facing Fort Aspen and being completely out done by nothing more then numbers. 20 Alpha Golems in a single zerg seriously???

I am glad to see my post generated some positive discussion though.

You got that matchup because SoS has a high enough rating that it will sometimes get a T2 fight, which means that a T2 server will be displaced. You just had the lucky to get FA is all – it has to go somewhere.

Dont worry guise, we’re doing much better in T3 now than we’ve been doing in the past. The Green server only has just barely more points than the other two servers combined, as opposed to being at 15k points 4 hours into the match.

You should have your mouse over an area of the ground that is not immediately around your arrow cart. The Arrow cart skills are Ground targeted, so you should be able to cast them on the ground away from your cart.

I’m curious as to why you would think this? Every season we’ve had, we get a huge surge of WvW activity. It’s a great opportunity to recruit and train pugs for WvW

The players you’re referring to, come in, check the achievements list that they need to check off, and go about doing it. 3 seasons of being in silver tell me that you’ll have AP farmers who come in briefly and leave. In the past, they haven’t joined the militia zergs with the pugmanders, or the guilds, or expressed any interest in learning how to contribute to WvW.

The funny part of this whole thread is that its all oriented around T2, which is actually doing just fine as a tier. T3 is where the problem lies.

Kuru, the OP said to me " It’ll help balance T3 because the server that goes down will likely implode."

However, if history tells us anything, any implosion is going to drive players back into T2. Those players are not going to distribute themselves into T3.

Or maybe some guilds or players should transfer to t3 servers instead of T1 / T2 and balance it out some, but until T3 servers pony up the gold to get the guilds, it isn’t going to happen. Sadly, T3 will remain broken, and only way it will get fixed is if a T2 server implodes.

Bump this shizz. Not sure why servers that have a small WvW population (T5+, arguably T3+) have a Very High denomination as compared to T1 or T2. Nor why DB should have a Full status when FA, YB, and JQ lack such a status despite having a similar WvW population.

Especially considering the fact that there’s literally no differentiating factor between servers besides WvW. In every other game mode, server is irrelevant. So why not base it off tier placement, in the least? Give Bronze league High or lower, Silver Very High or lower (never Full for Silver), then adjust Gold league server according to WvW population, not PvE or PvP population. To be honest, I’m not sure how we’d measure WvW population as it’s constantly in flux, but the current measures are not healthy for WvW as a whole, T2, and/or the lower tiers especially.

Unless depopulation of lower tiers with simultaneous filling of top tiers is a scheme to make T2/T3 more competitive while shutting down Bronze league to consolidate players. In which case, I shake my head and think WHAT A DISASTER ©.

IMO the best way to calculate active WvW population would be through player hours.

One would need to calculate the cumulative number of hours spent by players from X server in WvW.

That sort of metric wouldn’t differentiate between a server with 400 players who spend an hour in wvw each week, or a server with 100 players that spend 4 hours in wvw each week.

T2 problem: a real solution.

I can tell you that FA outnumbers SBI pretty freaking badly. SBI is a rank 10 sever playing FA who’s a rank 4 server.

FA queues every map on reset, SBI only queues EB.

If Anet is going to force servers into kitten matches vs. server that are in tier 1 they need to put some kind of balance system into the game.

dont worry, it gets better as the week goes on.

FA possibly has the most active NA WvW population in the game. They certainly are competetive in T1 in NA prime

From what I’ve read in the HoT expansion materials, is that we’re getting a better designed map for WvW. They’ve accorded a defensive advantage to whoever will hold the new map. I am excited to see how it turns out.

Double-ranged shatter and IP question

IP is also important so that you can instantly F4 when you’re in trouble.

You are correct – the scaling on Mind wrack stops at the third clone to shatter, whether that is actually a clone or you, doesn’t matter. that said, a two clone +IP shatter vs a 3 clone shatter do the same damage if they all strike at the same time.

The part that is difficult with the mesmers shatter damage is that to get the extra damage, all the clones need to pop together, and often there will be a little running involved for the clones, and that can remove the bonus of clones shattering together

I’ll quote the nugget that I found to be the most informative here:

It helps you prevent enemy armies from making quick assaults on your keeps. I am simply explaining to you what happened when the fall tourney was announced. It’s a fact. If you have a problem with facts about what happened in the past, take it up with someone that owns a time machine. Please do not throw personal insults me anymore. I am only talking about what happened in the past, and it’s not like I’m the only person who knows about it. Perhaps you should be informed yourself.

Do you have evidence of those facts or links to them?

What specifically are you claiming is a personal insult? I hardly describe calling someone out on flinging accusations, while failing to support those accusation with no evidence, as personal attacks.

You claim it as “common knowledge” in the same fashion that scholars claimed the misconception that the earth was flat as “common knowledge” for centuries. It appears even more malicious, given that you offer no evidence that you were part of those communities, or their discussion, and apparently on an entirely different server.

There’s plenty of history of servers that manipulate their glicko around the time of the tournaments. Servers have tanked in order to avoid gold league, and after a disastrous season 1, NSP tanked into bronze league to avoid the steamrolling by ALL of silver league for season 2. Just because you haven’t done any of your own homework, doesn’t mean that it didn’t happen. I may not agree with Ark alot of the time, but he knows of what he speaks in this instance.

the Devs have even discussed how tanking is a viable strategy some weeks during tournaments in order to secure an easier first place victory the following week.

The problem is that this is all created by players, so Anet cannot in good faith resolve the issue with server merges, as people have spent money on moving their accounts around. Aeolus, i think that’s a bit low, possibly 30 players across all Bls + some roamers that just jump around and throw ballistas at each other

This was the first thing I was told when I came to Tier 1, I asked why I was 33 in que and it took under 2 min to get in and they told me it was because they allow more people on the map in Tier 1.

Perhaps a 30 man guild group decided to map hop. In the lower tiers this generally won’t happen because pugs are the main fighting forces there and they don’t move from map to map as efficiently.

No, because we had ques on DR that lasted forever, when we didn’t have as many people on the map as we did on JQ.. Hell on DR we didn’t even have 100 people playing wvw at the time on ALL maps and we had a que…

That was why I have been shocked at how fast the ques go on JQ, for everyone, not just me. We can get our Guild on map NP even with a que due to how fast it moves.

We had more trouble getting guild on map on DR than we ever have on JQ. which is sad.

DR was an even fatter bandwagon than HoD was during S2. Ya’ll were stacked as high as the T2 servers are now, and EVERYONE wanted to come out and rofl on all the servers who could do literally nothing to stop the tide of map queues. Either way – the queues are shorter on T1 for you because they’re extremely organized, and not doing a push week. Their community has organized themselves to reduce queues, which comes from having a stable community for a long period of time, which you would not have had on DR.

Either way, T3 is still incredibly borked. It’s ooftastic.
