I think that if eles got an Elite that was like Trillia Midwell’s super epic tornados, we could have eles running their elites, instead of asking for it to be another utility slot. Midwell’s Tornadoes are quite fun. The only thing that would need to be changed from the NPC’s tornado is that it should not be able to ping-pong players around. They do good damage and they CC more reliably than the elite tornado IMO.

I think for a player elite it should either be ground-targeted, or around an ele like an un-tratited necro well. Should create 3-5 tornado-earth walls. possibly it could do damage based on your attunement. Video might show an Earth attuned ele using the elite. We might actually have elementalists equipping their elite skills!! what a thought.

Need help - solo living story

You’ve chosen a great and versatile class that isnt as simple as some of the others in the game (cough warrior).

I think what many others have directed you to is right, in PvE you want to run Sword/Focus GS and get your reflects traited. However, you said in your first post that you’re full Assassins with Zerker Weapons, and this means that you’re, in fact geared perfectly to go and insta-gib people in World vs World if you choose to play a Shatter style build.

Fun video i enjoyed it! only thing I got for you is that you should try and hold off on using your staff #4 skill.

It seems like you’re just laying it down for a bit more damage instead of using it for it’s utility, to get conditions to xfer from you to your opponent. If you can, try to wait 5-10 seconds for a better opportunity to use it when you swap to staff. It should be the last, or second to last mark you put down.

Positioning keeps you alive more than tankiness in WvW, being on TC nanyetah, you know this well.

It’s pretty simple to keep yourself out of damage and use your escape skills as a zerk ele , and still be able to get the fields where the commander needs them. I only really consider staff for zergs. full zerk is definitely not the way to go in WvW on D/D

Full Celestial Armor but Berserker all else?

IMO you should go pack, hoelbrak or strength and try to up your damage. The celestial armor should give you enough that you can survive getting focused with your utilities and mobility.

As for Fresh air, It’s a playstyle that gives you incredible burst if you know how to do it.
using a 0/6/0/4/4 build I’ve killed careless teefs in the amount of time it takes for them to cast their heal. This would also be my build of choice for dueling on an ele.

I play Scepter/Focus Fresh Air, and a combo you would execute would look something like this:

Start in Air – interrupt an enemy with GALE Switch to Fire-Cast Phoenix on the ground just behind your target- While Phoenix Channels, line up Lightning Flash and blink to your target. Lightning flash hits your target. Phoenix hits your target 3 times (traveling to, the strike and traveling from the strike point)
Cast Arcane Blast (CRITICAL HIT)

Attune to Air (lightning strikes your target on attune) cast Lightning Flash, Blinding flash and channel your arc lightning.

This is a brutal combo and when it’s executed it looks something like this:

The real thing to revive world vs world, is to make people understand that it’s all coverage. If you do not have Coverage, you will loose against a server with coverage.

given that coverage > all other factors, the focus of WvW should not really be on PPT if you want to have a good experience.

IMO, you should focus on your peers, the players you fight next to every day, and work on your synergy and ability to fight as a unit (or accomplish goals as a unit, like taking T3 keeps), and have fun at the same time. At the end of the day, or the week as it may be, the community of players that you are around is all that you have.

Perhaps the original poster is correct and we should only calculate score based on the victor in an event, like assaulting a keep or defending a keep, points go to the victor. So if you assault a keep and fail, the enemy team gains points. I personally do not particularly care about score, because it is largely out of my hands as it stands now.

Silly roaming guardian build

With guard stacks in WvW i get up to around 15k hp, it’s not as bad as it looks on paper.

I can also heal from almost 0 to full with a full round of my heal and meditations.
If you’re good at sequencing your invulnerability and blocks to mitigate incoming damage, you can be very successful, even in small group fights with tons of AOE cleave.

that, and the 2900 armor makes this comparatively tanky, the only thing thats really gonna get you is multiple condition bombs that apply 3 or more conditions

Lots of guilds go to EotM to bag farm when:
the servers they face end up running away from them everywhere they go,
or
the matchup they’re in is so blown out they can’t so much as move in WvW proper without getting blobbed down reallly fast.

They do have in game GMs. I’ve got one of them on my friends list. I’ve seen them around in game as well. They’re normally named “GM First Last” The only way I can confirm that this was in fact a GM is that she moved servers twice in a day to find an exploiter in WubWub

I get the usage of Scepter and it really help, but in WvW Mobility is OP. For solo raoming wouldn’t Sword be better? Sword #2, GS #3 and JI allows you to escape sometimes if there is a target close, it doesn’t happen often but happens.

in short, no the sword is not better for solo roaming, especially if you’re playing a bursty, high DPS build. You might win against people who are unprepared for you with Sword, but when you meet your match, and or find someone who can kite better than you can gap close, you will die.

The scepter offers you very good damage from 1200 units, and with an Air sigil on the scepter you can do a fair amount of damage. in a solo roaming 1vx fight that you cant finish quickly, you will need to be able to do damage from range, because you do not have an exceptional ability to absorb damage. and recover.

East side of Stonemist Castle
Sentries on maps like Eternal Battlegrounds
every sentry
the Great Gate on Stonemist for whatever server you’re looking to pick a fight with

If you flip camps in an enemy borderland, Someone is going to come and find you, especially if you leave hints as to where you are or where you are going. Kill every sentry and yak that you set your eyes on in order to get some attention.

Often you can just make laps around stonemist and pick off the weak or the elderly who straggle behind the herd — i mean zerg.

One of my favorite things to do is to kill a sentry and not capture it, so it leaves a big ring up. Someone is going to stand in the circle. then, you kill them. If you get into large scale combat, this trick works with zergs too.

Lurk outside an enemy keep, and keep it contested, that’s another great way to get people to chase you, which can be enormous fun.

If you hang out in the spaces between towers and their respective supply camps, you’ll find people. If they’re both from the same guild, they’re more likely to duel if you /bow at them. Sometimes, this (dueling) is a more effective way to defend your borderland than trying to intercept small guild groups. I’ve engaged havok parties of 5 in duels and kept them engaged for the better part of an hour, during which time they were fighting me, instead of capturing our world’s camps and killing all the bessies.

Obsidian Sanctum is more balanced. You cant have guard stacks in OS, so it eliminates a lot of power creep.

Most importantly, there are times of day when roaming is relatively good, being before the guild rallies start during NA primetime and in the transition period into OCX.

Make a friend in DOLO, and they’ll help you with your mlg skills if you can tolerate them.

So something I should point out, this build is intended for WvW and goes really over the top when stacks get involved.

Roaming in WvW, with full stacks i found myself to have 2500+ power and 2900+ armor. Very fun, not very nice to my teammates compared to my normal guardian build, but I found this build to work exceptionally for roaming, dueling and small scale fighting. It slightly lacks in the whole, disengaging part of WvW, but it sure hits like a truck and is tanky enough.

The trick that i’ve always used was to zoom in on my mini map, as far as I could zoom.

The portal length is just slightly under the width of the map with it at max size, zoomed in.

Having a fun fight with a P/P teef and a guardian as a part of a larger brawl,

I down the teef, the guard goes to res, 100blades on the both of them, the guard gets the teef up, i evisc the teef again and hes goes down, the guard goes to res, and i 100 blades on the both of them.
my D/D ele friend then bursts in, and downs BOTH of them, HOWEVER

we then lagged so hard that we got black-screens at 14,000 frames per second (recorded from FRAPS) and then poof DCed, and I was not able to access guild wars for almost 20-25 minutes.

I like the ideas, although it took the WvW dev team over a year to introduce color commander tags. How long do you think it would be to implement what you said?

*Edit: Someone pointed out to me that the color tags was more for PvE, so the WvW dev team might not have been involved. Scary.

I’ll say it again, it’s not really relevant that this plan isnt likely to be implemented. It’s more an exercise in creativity in finding a solution that would meet the desires of the players. I wanted to create a vague (cause the whole post is pretty vague. It’s one thing to say “defensive advantage” and a whole nother thing to quantify it.) concept of what WvW could use to add significant spice.

I think this a pretty ambitious suggestion and it would, bare minimum take 18 months of consistent work to complete, and there’s no guarantee that it would fit the bill the way I’ve outlined it.

We’ve had it along with you guys ever since the silverwastes and the new LS came out. Red BL is unplayable for a solid 1/2 of guildies, the rubber band is real. Had a fab fight with ZoS where the slideshow lag was just unreal.

Tanking damage is an important thing. Be sure you play the meta classes (guard, warri prefered) and if you are a heavy run with 3.5k+ armor. Gs or hammer/staff with gua and hammer/sword+warhorn with warrior. Stability, ah build with gua and shout support with warrior. Your personal damage is secondary. Stay alive, keep others alive.

under no circumstances do you need THAT much armor. You hit diminishing returns on the Armor stat at 3k, which is about as much armor as you will realistically need. Once you hit 3k armor, you’re much better off stat-ing into damage.

IMO you’re not shattering enough to call this a shatter build, and your perplexity runes are still pulling a lot of the weight of your damage in your open world WvW 1vX.

I’d like to see this in a small group fight, like a 5v5 or a 3v3 and without perplexity runes before I pass judgement on MtD. I saw some big stacks of torment in your video, but i think you could push it farther.

S/F and S/D eles are great roamers and duelers. Personally I’m more a S/F than a S/D type of Ele. S/D has better burst, yes, but you loose out on so much defensive utility that you need in order to survive once you go full glass.
When I roam, i run a mostly zerker, (celestial chest piece, 1 ring, and 1 accessory) Scepter Focus Fresh Air Elementalist, 0/6/0/4/4 (4 in water for condi clears on attunement) It’s very amusing to kill a teef who’s not used to fighting Scepter/? elementalists in 2-2.5 seconds

People don’t use S/F eles in 15v15 GvGs because you can have more specialized gankers with better traits and skills to support that role; without loosing out on support and DPS. some examples being : Leg Specialist + shield bash on Warriors, Confounding Suggestions, +Pistol 5 on Mesmer, Panic Strikes + Sword immob on Teef.

Dont loose heart though! Elementalists are SO good at controlling the flow of a fight with chills (frozen ground) and CC with Static fields and rockwalls that routinely kill more people than hammerstuns.

I’ll re-iterate that what i’ve described above only really applies to 15v15 or higher GvGs. I’ve seen 10v10 teams of 100% light armor classes with D/D front line eles, S/F gank eles and staff support eles with a couple mesmers and maybe a teef win GvGs in the past.

I think that this would be worth exploring. The principal argument is sound – Condition builds only really need to spec into Condition Damage in order to change their damage output, when contrasted against power builds.

Additionally, the ability of classes to APPLY conditions does truly out-strip the ability to cleanse them. IMO this should be a “try-before-you-buy” kind of thing. I’m sure it’s possible to set up the conditions so that they would deal the same amount of damage that they deal now if you have 50% critical chance.

The question remains, whether the conditions have a chance to critical when applied, (600 damage tick burns vs 900 damage tick burns on critical) or whether each tick of the conditions gets a chance to critical

Schizophrenic Break- Clone Elite (Cooldown reduced by Illusion minor traits) – All Mesmer Clones and Phantasms Merge into a single phantasm with increased damage.

3 phantasms merging will do much more damage than 3 clones merging. 3 clones merged would just make a single new super clone that AAs with the same damage as the mesmer

If you blended 2 Izerkers with an I-duelist, you could get a phantasm that whirls and shoots projectiles along the whirl

blend 2 duelists with a mage, and you get an Iduelist with 50% chance for the bullets to ricochet to another target

and so on.

absolutely. I roll a full berserker elementalist with hoelbrak runes in WvW.

Avoiding damage is mostly about where you put yourself. If you keep your melee train as a meatshield, you’ll be okay. Make sure you use Lightning flash to get out of those big bombs. Mist form is your friend.

honestly, i think nobody will discuss your suggestion of confusion damaging on swaps if it doesn’t treat all swaps equally

I’m fine with confusion procing on weapon swaps as well, and i agree that confusion should punish all players for swaps.

I wanted to center the discussion around kits and attunements, because those two classes see the greatest benefits from swapping frequently, and probably swap the most frequently as well. I wanted to consider the question from their PoV because they will be hurt the most by a change like this. A warrior, traited can swap every 5 ish seconds, where a burst elementalist (like fresh air) will swap attunements 3-4 times in that same time span.

Why? Attunment & kit swapping IS weapon swapping for those classes. Your stated reason of ‘many effects trigger on attune and kit swaps’ is unclear. After all, many effects trigger on weapon swaps; why shouldn’t it happen there as well?

I didnt provide reasoning because I’m asking what people think, and i want to see and hear the arguments for and against confusion procs on swaps.

I focused more on ele and engi because they see the most benefit from swapping, and their swap effects are easiest to access. I also focused on ele and engi because they both can near-instantly swap attunements/kits and weapon swap things are more gated and far less common.

as for ulterior motives, thats lolworthy I’m trying to see what people think in here. I have more play time on elementalist than any other class. my second class in PvP is a tri-kit engineer, so I dont really stand to gain much by buffing confusion in the way that i’ve suggested . You guys are thinking about me too much, and not the question.

SBI is a great server. They have biiiiiiiiiiiiig stormblobs, and some very effective roamers.

It really depends on what you’re looking for out of your WvW experience. Winning in WvW MEANS NOTHING. and if you’re looking at transfering to a server where you’re less overwhelmed, I dont really know how to help, since glicko will give you both intense victories and crushing defeats.

My .02 is that SBI doesn’t have any zergbusting or stand-out guilds since Bannok left for AA. It seems to me that the environment on SBI is RIPE for a WvW guild to flourish. You’ve got a very big, capable stormblob, and all those people are very used to working together.

It could be just my opinion though.

you should look up the scaling on Healing Power. It’s pitiful. I believe 1 point is 0.12% regeneration

IMO 500 Healing power is ALOT of healing power, and anything more than that you’re probably better off going into something else

WvW Criticism

Ok, I have a new issue with WvW. our server population seems to be dropping, and we can’t hold anything for more than an hour before the whole map is green. I request that anet have people see what HoD server goes through for 24 hours, and hopefully they will fix the matchups. If nothing is done, then WvW dies on HoD, and it would prove that anet doesn’t care about the players that much. If anything the matchups need to be by population that plays WvW not just a server population, cause only a fraction of players do WvW.

HoD has a sizeable WvW presence, so i’m not sure where you’re coming from. As fas as i can tell though HoD HAS lost their commanders who know how to win a sustained open field battle. When I last fought HoD for two weeks in a row, it was quite fun, and your server fought kicking and screaming against superior COVERAGE and acquitted themselves very well.

WvW is stale, but not broken. If you’re winning its because your server has COVERAGE, and you should not think it’s anything else. At the end of the day, winning in WvW means jack diddily squat.

As for Using PvP stats in WvW, this is a terrible idea. You’re essentially saying that you dont want to craft your own build, and you want to limit diversity by restricting gear to the amulets, which would FORCE people into the meta, just to stay alive, and it would severely limit the abilities of zergbusting guilds to take down 1.5-3x their numbers.

People spend a great deal of time crafting their builds to fill a specific niche. Whether thats the instagib elementalist who is as delicate as an orchid, and if you so much as pass wind in its general direction it dies, or the un-naturally tanky enginneer or warrior.
You go into PVP, basically knowing what you’re going to come up against because of how PvP fights are all around a capture node. Many builds are simply not viable if you’re limited to staying in a small area around a point. That’s why you see a ton of D/D Celestial eles, hambows, turret engineers, S/D Teefs, and other similar meta builds. If you play a turret engineer in WvW, prepare to get laughed at.

I would probably quit the game, with a large number of other players were WvW build diversity limited to the PvP amulets. WvW is really the only part of the game where you can test a build and put it through its paces. There’s a lot of joy in knowing that you never actually know what kind of build is coming at you in WvW. It makes fights more spontaneous, balls to the wall awesome.

We raid every day around 6 pm PST for approximately 2-3 hours, depending on the balance of fights and siege bunker!

When we’re not in WvW, we’re found PvPing, roaming and maintaining our kitten!

S/d, D/p or d/d theif

I play a S/D thief in WvW, instead of D/D or D/P/

If you’re good with your CnD, then S/D should be as managable as D/D which is the favorite among gank teefs.

I’d say that D/P is safe: you can really utilize your SA traits to keep yourself alive as long as you dont get caught out.

S/D is more active play than D/P since you have a bit less access to stealth, you’re more worried about your positioning and landing bursts than a backstab thief. IMO S/D thieves work together best with other gank/roaming classes

D/D are still the kittens that i can never kill on my mesmer. Feels like all the pro teefs run D/D

Red Borderlands - Insane lag

I know you said you fixed the lag Anet, but, i beg to differ.

lots of rubberbanding, people are DCing and having an otherwise unplayable WvW experience in MOSTLY the red borderlands. The whole guild is experiencing it, but i havent been able to confirm whether the enemies on the same map are able to do so. I’m currently in the NA T4 matchup.

The lag isnt restricted to there, but it’s most noticeable for us.
