If you’re looking for an excellent WvW experience, then you should find a guild on your server, (unless the queues in Blackgate are a gamebreaker) who is open to new players and help you to learn what makes WvW fun. It’s a very complex, and fun when you get to the advanced level.
Good luck with your search
I command on an Ele.

Melandru runes are expensive but in conjunction with the PVT gear (valk or cavalier when you have a decently trained group to back you up) You are extremely durable, as long as you can keep people blasting your fields.
Relevance improved
Well HoD i’m fairly impressed by the numbers that you’re throwing out recently. Hope I’ll be able to see it myself in the coming weeks
Looks like silver league may have a few upsets, which, IMO is going to make it a much more competitive league to play in than Gold. Keep the battles raging folks!
holy kitten guys. Devon himself said that Megaservers were not going to affect how we play WvW.
its being put in place to help folks who never have an opportunity to do world bosses because their maps are too empty.
People could go play in EoTM that would make matches competitive too.
I bet you miss us from last week now! =P In b4 lock
dude.
the howler sound going on and on and on… is not a bug, just the legendary working as intended
Hi Anet,
I’m going to keep this short and sweet.
I’m a WvW commander, and I am a little disappointed in the quality of loot in WvW.
I’m not going to say that you have not made improvements to WvW loot since i’ve been playing, because you have. Ascended weapons and armor drops are great,
but
I still net a gold loss in WvW, largely due to the siege upkeep that I need to go through.
the issue as i see it is that, making gold in WvW is considerably slower than in other game modes, and at the moment for players like myself who almost singularly play WvW, we are at a serious market disadvantage, EVEN when we can hit an equal number of champions per hour.
(I dont think we should be able to keep up with dungeon runners or the FGS champion farm, but we should be able to at least make a comparable amount of $ for our time instead of how it currently is when we make about 30% of what a PvE-er will make.)
For me, the “reward” in WvW is getting better at playing with my guild, we sustain longer and get more player kills, but I think it would be great if we could get loot rewards that are more equal with what our PvE counterparts make.
THROW OUT SOLUTION (this solution probably sucks)
if your 25 man guild is going against a 40+ blob, wouldnt it be great if your loot value scaled in your favor because you’re fighting a larger force (Like the outmanned buff, but more dynamic in that it is not a global effect, more like event scaling)
This solution probably would require that zerg fights get turned into an “event”
Anywhoo thats the end of my crap solution,
please do improve the loot though.
(Readers, please post your average Gold /Hour in WvW so we can gather some data and compare!)
Bumping for visiblity
It is terrible. Had this crap 2 nights in a row when figthing against FA, and the 2nd night it affected the whole IoJ bl, not just the battle area.
I have video of this incident specifically on my computer, will upload in a few hours for devs.
30 minutes ago:
may still be processing if you see this early.
Everyone is experiencing lag on my side. If there is TS commentary you may hear “We’re fighting Lag” and other doosies.
Typically the lag occurs right before engaging.
Rubber banding, Apparent Disconnect, and game playing massive catch-up.
i’d guess 40(+-5) people per zerg. sometimes 4 zergs in this video.
nevilledevil,
appreciate what you’re trying to do here,
but two other whole servers are dedicated to stopping you from doing what you want to do in this zone.
you will get spawncamped by thieves.
you will get killed in the JP,
you will have a bad time if you are only coming to do one thing and get the achievements because none of the WvW players will want to help you to do that, because they’re trying to WIN the tournament, not just get the meta completed.
all the people in that queue could have generated queues for another server.
holy kitten man. much queue, such wow, so doge.

personally I can’t wait until HoD comes back up to meet us. some of our matches with HoD have been the closest i’ve ever seen. There was even one week that we were about 300 points apart.
only time will tell…
=D
We are pleased to welcome [PR] Phoenixes Reborn to IoJ!
+ epic for our NA(est)!
That is all.
Hi Allie, new report from 3/26/2014 8:00-9:30 pm server time
What kind of issue are you specifically having that could be related to lag?
Skill lag, rubber banding, apparent disconnect, Zerg sense
What server are you on?
Isle of Janthir – in SBI borderlands
Has there ever been a time when you or a friend are experiencing lag, while others in your party are not?
Not this time
Has there ever been a time where one party in a map is experiencing lag, while other parties in that same map are not?
Lag was correlated to your proximity to an enemy zerg
Do you experience the lag at very specific times?
Lag would start while zergs stacked and buffed, I would try and maneuver my zerg and would start to rubber band before combat even started
If so, can you estimate how many players are in each zerg?
23 in my zerg, 20-30 in the enemy zerg as well.
Hi Allie,
thanks for gathering data, here’s mine: with video examples
Rubberbanding, Skill lag (weapon/attunement swap not happening, ground targeting skills flash without firing,), apparent disconnects where players run into walls for 60-90 seconds before “SNAP ACTION” where everything that actually happened in that time section shoots past.
This is a time (video below) when I was lagging and the people around me were not, or were not experiencing lag
best example of random lag that I have, no combat, maybe 30 players around:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kA5kOVbt61o ( Skill lag, apparent DC)
Example with combat:
(https: // vimeo. com / 85012919 <—( sorry about spaces in the link, the forum doesn’t like intact vimeo links: Skill lag bottleneck)
I type a message into /T chat at 1:40, it doesn’t appear in game until 2:12.
that’s 32 seconds of lag!!!!
approx 50-60 players nearby.
Server: Isle of Janthir
I’ve noticed heavy lag when non-wvw related server events are happening, and during NA Prime when one server in my wvw matchup queues all 4 maps.
Lag is definitely the worst on EBG.
I’ve been relying more and more on the lag to know that an enemy zerg is approaching. It’s like spidey sense for zergs… which i would rather not have.
Hope this helps.
Bowls of Poultry + Leek soup for survivability + whatever utility nourishment among the tuning crystals, maintenance oils, or sharpening stones you prefer.
so far, i haven’t seen any censoring, but i havent seen any hate-speech either.
Hi Triston,
I tried to compile a bunch of tips and tricks from the GW2 Community’s pool of excellent leaders, here’s what I was able to collect from them:
A lot of what is in that thread is echoed here. Definitely be very patient with your map players. When I command in Eternal Battlegrounds, I copy and paste a WvW tutorial from my guild forum into map chat, to make sure that everyone is on the same page, and has the same understanding of the flow of combat.
If you’re fighting a force that either grossly outnumbers you, or out-skills you, then you need to change the tempo of the map by forcing them to react to you, instead of having their position be the focus of attention.
basically, be very, very mobile, control supply camps, and start damaging their structures. over a period of time, you’ll starve them of supply which will make taking their structures much easier.
Art of War documentary on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMNaULHLH9c
outdated, but still very useful PDF : http://guildwars2.ro/Ghid-WvW.pdf
Confirming again. I can’t even get from the spawn to our keep without disconnecting.
Will be in borderlands all week.
Sad hamster is sad.
I’m tapping this like one of FA’s keeps
I was wondering what screen capture software folks use, and any issues / complaints about said software. (does it use too much RAM/CPU, files too big etc…)
Overwolf video recorder
Fraps
Camtasia or Camstudio
Jing
Screnflow
Also any recommendations on minimum hardware required to record at 1920×1080 with High settings in GW2.
Thanks!

shameless bump for IoJ! [&AgFzmQAA]
and who doesn’t want to play with Birdsong?!?
Necromancers and elementalists deal massive damage to zergs =D
I’ve heard rumors that they have been contending with a rewarding issue which i’ll try to explain with some context:
Say you log onto your main character, and you find TADA! you now have account bound WXP and you’ve jumped from rank 200 to 450. You just got a bunch of Rank up chests! Yay loot! You assign your now reset wvw traits, and go on your merry way.
Now, you log onto your other character, again we have the TADA! moment and you have a bunch of Rank Up chests! Yay Loot! but you already got rewards for these levels.
Rinse and repeat for other toons. much loot. such rank chests. wow. such doge.
now, granted I heard this in my server teamspeak. No way to verify the truth of my description above.
I agree with OP on a couple points…
Other sections of the forum will get posts from a variety of different types of Anet representatives, but the WvW forum seems only to have Devon and a few moderators (Allie, Mark, Danica and Josh)
Please Anet, we want to hear from your Gameplay Programmers, We want to hear from your Even if you dont have a fix for the meticulous bug list we have compiled for you (TY Notkalkz), having a programmer tell us when we’re thinking in the right direction would be great.
Put someone in front of us like Bill Friest (Dev who bravely tackled the skill lag post), and Chris Barret who can actually tell us when we’re wrong, someone with the the technical expertise to answer our questions.
Impossible task for a busy dev to answer all the questions on the forum, but even 30 minutes of question answering per week would be a huge improvement
I think this would be a great equalizer.
one user above suggested 100 badges + 25silver = tome
if we scale that out,
8000 BoH + 20G = Lvl 80. + 1250 BoH for Invader’s gear
(since you spent all your gold earned in wvw on tomes. Not that you got a lot of gold anyway)
Perhaps 15 silver per tome to make it a touch more affordable
(edited by Hamster.4861)
Hey [KöMÉ]!
I’m sure I don’t speak for everyone, but IoJ misses you!
we’ll see you soon! =P
Same issue here with IoJ/BP/YB.
4th week in a row for us…..
I’m a WvW mesmer, and it’s a very challenging class in that environment.
I run a hybrid clone-death, interrupt effect lockdown build (with fury on phantasms for DPS) (Soldiers gear + Perplexity runes) 0/30/30/0/10
For armor: WvW would love you to have soldiers gear. If you want to focus more on condition damage, then go for Rabid (toughness, condition damage, precision)
for weapons, I recommend having sword + whatever and Staff for WvW, (staff DPS is underwhelming, but survivability is the goal with this weapon)
You will ALWAYS be changing utilities (veil/portal, feedback/Null Field)
offhand weapons too. (focus/torch/sword/pistol)
offhand focus – pull that kitten off the wall, or back towards you cause that fool is running away.
offhand torch – great for roaming and fighting against multiple opponents
offhand sword – ima hurt you with this sucker.
offhand pistol – Great single target DPS, and instant daze/stun/blind (i use this as my on toggle interrupt)
important things for a level 80 mesmer? learn your dungeons. practice chain veiling.
practice fighting 1v3 =D
enjoi
For AOE farming… you’re a mesmer. most of your skills are targeted, but GS is probably the best weapon for this.
Hello Anet and WvWders
I’ve found recently that the cannon at Wildcreek (just over the door) has been shooting THROUGH the bridge and wall into the very back of the dredge tunnel.
I’m not sure if this is an actual hack, an aspect ratio “zoomhack” or the cannon working as intended, but when i’ve been green, I cant shoot through the tower with the cannon, the cannon balls explode on the wall.
is there any consensus about this?
Thanks everyone for the suggestions!
I personally don’t aspire to be a celebrity commander, but I definitely wanted to hear from those who are.
my goal for this thread is to collect and organize information to help new commanders.
With all of the transfers that will be happening in the run up to the tournament, some servers will be in desperate need of new talent to lead, and hopefully the experience of our veterans will help them lead effectively.
Not every server has commanders that inspire other players to take up the dorito, and I was hoping to collect wisdom here for the benefit of all of the new players who are faceplanting against the learning curve.
Hey everyone!
I’ve wanted to open a discussion with commanders across servers about different styles and techniques used to rally militia, the everyday players who are not hardcore WvW battle-seekers or the players who seek to roam separate from the commander.
It would be great to see what approaches have been effective, and which have not in your server and community environment.
The most common analogy used to describe this is “herding cats” and I’m sure we’d all love to hear some of the tricks used by our best cat shepherds. cough nacho cough
My most effective rallies have all started with engaging the map in conversation,
starting with a “good evening/morning/afternoon” and setting a goal for that command, whether it be taking down the back fully upgraded towers like bravost, veloka, jerrifers, langor, aldons etc, or destroying a WP in an enemy keep.
For Example:
“before we leave tonight we’re going to paper this corner and drain it dry of supply so our OCX can roflstomp all night long”
I found this to be effective because it keeps everyone aligned with the same goal in mind. This way when the militia ask questions, they’re normally framed around the goal, and this also makes discussion easier, as the question askers less frequently get accused of noobage.
Another technique that is similar to this one, but less dependent on our enemy being disorganized, was to offer a challenge to the militia, similar to this:
“Hey guys, there are a lot of ways this can work. I can command the way I have been, like we are a disorganized group of cats who are going to scatter the second we hit a zerg, or I can command like we’re all a practiced zergbusting group and we can kick kitten and chew bubble gum. What do you think – insert server – ? are you up for the challenge?
For me, issuing a challenge to the map zerg has worked on occasion, but it has also heartily backfired. Zergbusting with an uplevel zerg is hilarious, but some players really don’t like dying.
I’m looking forward to your answers!
IoJ!
We have a reddit-known and well organized PvE community during NA primetime, and a competitive and stable WvW community as well.
There was a time during season 1, and we decided to pull a whole queued map into the weaker enemy borderland to take their waypoint out of hills.
As it turned out, our opponent knew we were coming this time, and when we brought the gates of Hills down, we were met with 9 superior ballista, 12 superior arrow carts, 4 catapults and 2 trebuchets.
Never have I seen so many players insta-down. As it turns out 9 spreadshots to the face hurt A LOT.
I was laughing for a good 5 minutes.
Agree with OP.
Siege glitch, and random immobilization are the largest issues imho.
DI is a great squad,
they kick kitten , take names and chew bubble gum.
everyone should definitely check out their youtube channel. There’s some pretty epic destruction
I leveled two characters with WvW only. It’s a good way to avoid the complete boredom of PvE leveling and the very high cost of craft leveling, and you can also learn quite a bit about how to play your class in WvW while doing it. Here are some common sense tips:
1. The fastest way is roaming the small stuff in a small groups constantly hitting sentries, yaks, camps, and the small PvE stuff like harpies and wurm. All out karma trains during the late week is also fairly fast but, more boring.
2. Buy new gear every 10 levels. Green full set of armor, full set of trinkets, weapons, and inexpensive gemstones to put on armor and sigils for weapons. Low level food / oil is also cheap and gives extra XP. This should cost no more than 1g total per set with instant buy, and it actually gives you a major advantage the first 3-4 levels with similar stats to an 80 with exotic. Don’t be an idiot upscale that gets instagibbed by anything. Avoid hammer trains, have defensive skills for periphery gankers.
3. Play an 80 that is appropriately geared for WvW when it’s somewhat serious fighting. You can’t always hump siege. Even if you follow the previous step, and are a good player that’s actually helping more with your upscale than most idiots in WvW, it really annoys commanders when they see so many upscales and are losing battles. Karma trains on the other hand, everyone knows those are basically farms for karma, champ bags, WXP, and XP and it doesn’t matter if you have a level 2 ranger or an 80 gold rank zerg warrior.
Yes.
I’ll add that you should try extra hard not to rallybot.
Your servermates who are trying very hard to win and kill things and go pew pew pew will appreciate your extra caution.
If you can learn your class and play well in WvW as an uplevel, then you’ll do just fine =D
much fun,
little bullkitten,
such competition
On a serious note though, Isle of Janthir’s WvW community is really something. Play for a few weeks and people start recognizing you and your contribution in WvW. We roll with the punches and don’t micromanage our guilds.
We play for the fun
We play to improve
Come to IoJ, and do your thang!

Just noticed this today, if you go to http://www.guildwars2.com/en
The Atlas ui element is added to the nav at the top.
if u are interfacing with : https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/
it goes away.
also, The Atlas button is the only one in that navigation with a : target=“_blank” rule applied
do you not want to be a little orca quaggan?
i agree with caedmon, learn how to sweep your keeps.
anet, dont penalize mesmers because they are better at hiding than their opponents are at looking for them.
