What akatosh said.
Some guilds are very good at taking advantage of distractions in order to paper upgraded objectives
Can someone link to where they have the announcement and its content posted?
It is just another win for the bigger servers. The match-up system needs to be fixed. NSP and IOJ have been getting rolled by the blob servers we have been getting for months. When you loose week after week by over 300k it become old real fast.
The only thing left to do in the T3 matchups is learn to fight better. You can hold stuff, but only if the big green meanie in the matchup allows it. As soon as their pugmander sets their sights on your stuff, it’s gone
Hoelbrak would be a good option because of the abundance of condition roamers that you’ll find.
If you’re actually going to roam alone- you’ll want the extra power, might up time and -condi duration that you’ll be afforded by hoelbrak runes.
If you’re going to roam with one or two others, then Pack runes will be best.
Doesn’t anyone remember that T1 server meeting where everyone discussed who was going to have a push week, and when? They just trade wins between the three of them.
Also this guide is just pointless. Who exactly is gaining anything from it and why would anyone bookmark it? In case you forget what supply is?
Considering how much WvW is struggling as a game mode outside of tier 1, I think this is a great idea for inducting new players. So yeah, it is kinda in case you forget what supply is, lol. Having ktrained a lot in EotM lately I can see this guide being invaluable to players making the transition from quasi-PvE to actual WvW.
I made the guide to help indoctrinate people into WvW, and to create a cross-server training document that would stress the richest part of this game – it’s spectacular combat system. We’re almost three years into the game, and every day we still see players who don’t know how to roll through an enemy bomb. A lot of people don’t understand how party composition, and guild/zerg composition affects playstyle. 30 players CAN defeat a map queue, almost all of the guilds listed in the special thanks have done it.
I’m not trying to suggest that any group of 30 can kill a map queue. Guilds who have good synergy – the players know what the drivers expect, what they’re likely to do and when and why; when communication is clear, you can make the simple fields and finishers combat system of Gw2 sing, and be left standing over a mountain of your slain enemies.
The meta for ele is 0/2/0/6/6 zerker/cele hybrid ele in WvW, You can spec into damage with your gear, and still support your allies.
Eles are the heart of sustain in WvW combat, so it’s important that you spec into water for cleansing water. You will still deal damage – as your power can sit around 22-2300, more with food. Most eles like to get Evasive Arcana (blast finisher on earth dodge-roll), but it’s not crucial for your allies the way the water tree is. The Water tree will also help you sustain more – which is what you should focus on as an ele.

It could be worse – you could be in T3 where the dominating server (varies each week) controls 2/3 of your borderlands, EB and the third enemy’s borderlands =P
although, i think Gobble D Goop has the right suggestions for you, i’m just being cheeky.
Hey Everyone, I’ve been working on a project lately and I believe it’s finally time to share it.
When I started playing WvW, there were many enthusiastic, helpful and skilled players who made it their business to make sure that everyone around them knew what was going on in WvW, and why. However, players come and go, and often they do not pass along the knowledge that they’ve earned to others.
I’ve spent the last few months researching, collecting footage, asking questions of this forum, in order to create a guide that would be an updated, and more combat oriented version of Theongreyjoy’s incredibly comprehensive WvW guide, which you can find here: guildwars2.ro/Ghid-WvW.pdf
So! To the point, I’ve assembled this Commander’s Compendium, which contains all of the information that I was taught, and all of the information that I’ve collected in order to teach myself and others to zergbust, GvG and play effectively in the WvW environment. This is intended to be an educational resource for everyone, the entire forum community contributed to it’s creation, whether you knew it or not.

My only point was that your guide specifically listed an insult instead of a guide, for 1/8th of the professions. That it was a big flaw to do so, and that you might change that.
As you wish- the one reference to rangers has been removed,
I’ve crowdsourced this entire document so far, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask more knowledgeable players to define what they see as the class’s role.
- snip-
instead of engaging me in this same old tired debate, you’re welcome to define the role of the ranger in large scale combat; a role that they can fill better than any other class, and recommend a build that fits that role well, and I’ll add a page to the document.
When I collect information on a guide to teach others to GvG, and zergbust – i’m not sure how the GvG community would be irrelevant, considering they invented the play style.
If you want to there’s a thread titled “Rangers in WvW after balance patch” which you can find here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/Ranger-in-WvW-after-balance-patch/ where you can engage in this debate.
You are correct when you say that in the overall context of WvW, Rangers can work. But if you’re going to zergbust, I think you’ll find that GWEN classes are better suited to it.
An interesting read to be sure but no ranger section in the class roles. Ignorance of the class or bias towards it’s usefulness in WvW or just an oversight?
If it were any of the three, it would be a bias towards it’s usefulness in WvW, in large scale combat situations specifically. The overwhelming consensus in the fights and GvG community is that rangers have very limited contribution, and they do not fit a role that they can perform better than any other class due to how they are balanced at the moment.
Rangers can be fabulous roamers and duelers, and their single target damage from range is possibly the highest in the game. They are also hobbled by their pets in bigger fights, as a fair portion of their damage and utility will be dead and limping back to their side after the first push (The pets do not dodge-roll with you) .
Skilled individuals can play them, and make them work, but those highly skilled rangers are very rare. From my personal experience, most of the folks I encounter playing rangers don’t do a particularly good job representing the class, and “go full potato” after their rapidfire is evaded, reflected, or blocked.
I didn’t invent the meta, the compositions, or the class roles, I just collected the information available and presented it. As I said in the beginning, this is about helping people learn to zergbust and GvG, and as it stands today rangers are not well balanced for that type of play.

you can, but its definitely not easy.
you just need to get used to the un-targeted range of the comet. Jerus is right, you can moderately control where the comet (or dragon tooth) will come down by angling your camera to the ground.
The space north was for the orb, it was replaced it with… nothing.
Orbs, the super fun mechanic that was removed from the game: http://youtu.be/ixnU7J6nRM4
i agree, orbs were fun, but they were removed for good reason.
speedhackers could do more for your server than being successful at PPT could.
Forcing players to run across the map because they are better then you, is a horrible idea.
LOL. Seriously? You think the ratings are the way they are because some servers are better than others?
Perhaps he does?
little did we all know, but overwhelming numbers = skill
For what you’re looking to do – staff support is the way to go. At the moment, most elementalists run either (0/2/0/6/6) or (0/0/2/6/6). The bunker traiting allows you to spec with more damage and less tankiness than many people would recommend.
If you want training wheels to get used to positioning with your elementalist – Full Soldier armor with Zerker trinkets would do you nicely.
I personally play on a Full Zerker elementalist for staff. Positioning keeps me out of damage and I’m able to focus on casting fields for the commander to blast.
I’ll link you a couple videos to watch to help you get a hang of positioning: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zz9iqSywHjI
( Two guilds in this video are # 1 and 2 for GvG. This video is good because if you watch carefully you can see how this player avoids getting ganked by enemy thieves and mesmers, and how their melee use the fields the ele places.)
(Open field fighting and positioning)
A fellow ive seen who does some pretty serious small team support builds runs a variation of a healaway build – check out this great video of a 6 vs 22 fight.
I can’t speak to his armor, but the traits are in the bottom left of the video. He’s probably got a fair bit of healing power ~ around 1000, possibly more.

sephiroth: the screenshot seems to show only the use of “ctrl” key which shows all the names.
And control won’t give you information THAT far either.
health bars on friendly and enemies is not a part of your Ctrl functions either.

*Borderlands redesign. 3 identical maps for over 2 years boooooring. Each map should have its own aesthetic theme, everything else would be the same terrain wise only the look would be different. This way there is no advantage for any server.
-Red can have fiery volcanic theme
-Blue can have icy thundra theme
-Green can have a Jungle theme
something like this?
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/Proposal-PvP-Map-Rotation-for-Borderlands
Only things that stick out to me were -
Rock Barrier: You are almost always using your hurl as soon as you put up rock barrier. You will gain a considerable amount of toughness by keeping it up. Some of the longer fights you had, it would have been beneficial to keep the rock barrier up.
Fire shield: I will need to watch again, but i only saw you using Fire shield once or twice during the video. while you’re questing about looking for where to lay down your burst with the phoenix, and you’re still getting pew pewed (like in your fight with the Pistol teef, rangers or engineers) you can punish them and might yourself by using your fire shield more.
Consolidating all servers to 6 new servers is the only solution.
2 tiers is definitely not enough – not when the T2 servers now can queue 4 maps during NA prime.
Perhaps it would be better to have 5 tiers – 15 servers –
Gold(T1) Silver(T2) Bronze(T3) Copper(T4) Iron(T5)
Guardians keep everyone alive and moving with protection and stability -
warriors keep everyone alive and moving by clearing soft CC like chill, cripple immobilize, condition conversion, as well as securing kills with flurry.they are just different.
A melee train that can’t lock down enemies with warriors is a dead or a useless melee train.
also – in CORE, our ascended warriors run 2900 power and 2900 armor with 30% crit, not sure we’re going to loose much DPS…..
Only 2900 armor with 30% crit? What kind of gear are they running? Clearly power primary, but what would reduce them to only 2900 armor? Mostly valk with maybe a mix of cav? Full soldier’s would get them a lot more than 2900 armor.
It’s a soldiers/zerker hybrid – No cav, no valk. 30% crit is the base – with fury up, which you have most of the time, you sit at 50% crit chance. With a guardian in your party you get thrown up to 3050 armor, so you’re able to sacrifice some of the soldiers gear for zerker.
CORE on IoJ need a mesmer for our gank, check out our website at core-ioj.shivtr.com
we rally from 6pm to 8pm PST, and we’re taking GvGs whenever we can get them.
Bump! looking for gank and roamers! Warriors, Necromancers and elementalists welcome as well!

Rylock we’re going to collect this bounty this week. Next GvG.
Just a couple months back the problem was with T2. It appears to be moving down the ladder.
the problem is still with T2. We are just the ones who deal with the consequences. There are 4 T2 servers, and 2 of them are cycling the other two in and out of the matchup, and we get to deal with it.
T2 is actually really great right now, very good, tight matches. A couple months back we saw the lopsided matches that are now in T3, natural selection moved more servers up to take Maguuma’s place, the cycle will continue. The only issue is how long it take Glicko to react to these changes.
you seem to be missing the point – there are 4 servers with the glicko and coverage to be in T2. There are 3 slots for T2. SoS may be crumbling a wee bit. We’ll see if they tumble. Even so, it will be another few weeks, maybe even 6 weeks that we’ll have horridly unbalanced matchups
If you have a commander tag, you can stack on top of your enemy while they’re alive and /supplyinfo to get their name as well

All I got is that fighting in the shade is gettin reaaaaaal dull.
http://youtu.be/Ge42qdPO7uw?t=1m23s
although, props to FA, of all the T2 servers i’ve seen in the last few weeks, they’re the only server who actually stood around and watched while my guild and another guild (we just ran across each other in the wild) essentially had an open field GvG. It was unnerving to have 40+ red names standing around in a big circle while we were fighting.
What i do not get why don’t most of the come T3 worlds (not SoS or FA or even DB they are more on the lines of T2-T2.5) get ppl from T4 and lower worlds to come to T3. Part of wvw is comunitly and if you cant build one then your world will die or simply be crushed by the odd T worlds.
.
We’re broke. Our WvW community doesnt have the gold to buy guilds, and assist with transfers. The players who dominantly do content that does generate gold, are not interested in assisting us with funding Xfers, as WvW is not in their scope of play.
We have very few pugmanders, and even fewer pugs. Why on earth would people from T4 and lower want to come to our server when we’re getting utterly demolished every week for the last 3 months, just for the sake of trying to create “balance”, when they themselves are in balanced matchups.
for me personally, I know that winning in WvW means absolutely nothing. It’s the crux of population and coverage, and it’s insulting to everyone you face to pretend it’s otherwise. There’s also no incentive to push to win.
(edited by Hamster.4861)
I’ve been using a 0/6/0/4/4 Fresh Air Scepter/Focus build for dueling. (100% zerker)
If you are good at picking out the mesmer from among the clones, you shouldnt have too much trouble with stealthing mesmers.
Thieves take a bit of practice to get used to fighting – the air auto attack will follow thieves in stealth once you channel it, much like a rapid fire, so if you channel it on a thief and he disapears, don’t cancel the channel.
the kill combo is airburst – Air 5 (Gale) Phoenix, lightning flash, arcane blast and another air burst. That will drop even zerker warriors down to about 15% and will drop any glass medium or light class.
Against condi tanks – it really depends on what you’re fighting. Swirling winds, and the magnetic wave are great at stopping P/D thieves. You should be able to ether renewal away most condition bombs. A good PU/Condi mesmer will probably eat your face if they can chain their stealth very well, simply because you need a target for your air burst and most of your auto attacks. So against a PU Mes, D/D is undoubtedly a better choice because you have access to AOE damage. Engineer is probably the second hardest condition spec to counter, you just need to try and end the fight as fast as possible.
Against other insta-gib power builds, like D/D thieves and axe/shield GS or GS/Rifle warriors, the best thing that you can do is sequence your blinds and invulnerabilities, (air and earth 3) and keep up pressure with air autos and such. Agaist a thief who only likes to Cloak and Dagger and then backstab, you should take Arcane shield and wait for the CnD, wait 2 seconds and phoenix behind you.
The reality of Dragon Tooth (Fire 2) is that you’re almost never going to make it land on an enemy – and it’s great for giving you clearance. Cast the tooth, and your enemy will move away from it. It can buy you some space and breathing room. I always try to get the wall of fire under the tooth so that I can build might with it. If i’m fighting a melee build, then i’ll use the magnetic wave to build might with, along with the dragon tooth. I’ve seen many S/F eles use Gale, and try to tooth and phoenix the CCed enemy. in my experience, taking the time to use the tooth will ruin your opportunity to burst. Perhaps 1 in 10 times you Gale, Tooth, Phoenix, both the tooth and phoenix will land.
White swords have returned!!!
Does anyone have anything they’re burning to add to the white sword discussion, now that we’re looking back on the whole sneak attack in retrospect?
never! you must tolerate getting steamrolled every week for the indefinite future until your server breaks! we <3 loosing by 350k!
It’s been like this for something like 9 weeks. The T3 that everyone remembers – where there are map politics, decent sized zergs on all sides – this is dead. It died with CD a few months ago.
What we have now is now is entirely guild driven. Our PPT comes up when there are guilds rallied on the field- and when they call their rallies, it drops back down. There are no pugs/militia left. They only tolerate getting steamrolled by GvG guilds once or twice before they call it for the week. If all of the guilds work together to push a map – we can queue one map, compared to green, who can queue 4 at once -and deeply too.
http://www.gw2wvw.net/sites/default/files/gw106_2.jpg
It’s like trying to part the ocean, but the ocean tries to sneak 15 people on top of your garrison to build arrow carts to kill the 15-20 defenders trying to fend off a queued map. The population difference is really, really clear.
basically what maskaganda said. Most effective team (at killing everyone else) I ever saw was 2 shatter mesmers, 2 guardians and 1 D/D ele
I play a Cele amulet GS/ Staff bunker guardian in PvP. 00644 (retributive armor, strength in numbers, AH)
(shout cooldown empowering might)
(Defender’s flame, Resolving Absolution)
with hold the line, purging flames, and stand your ground.
you have plenty of burning – fire shields (Leap of Faith through Purging flames) , burning projectiles (whirling wrath and binding blades through the purging flames, Defender’s flame, and as you’re getting hit, as you’re hitting, you’re building might, which helps your burns more.
burning isn’t why it works though. I run Runes of the Pack, and when I have an ally near me and I’m getting focused, my empowers, shouts and dodge rolls do a considerable amount of healing. Pack runes ensure high Fury uptime for sustained damage with the greatsword. Staff cleaving does wonders against mesmers and thieves who don’t stay in melee range.
If you’re using a condi shatter – then you should go for Tormenting runes. They’ll work with MTD and your other weapon sigils the best.
If you’re going to play CI condi lockdown – then you want Plex runes. Perplexity is cancer though, and you will not earn anyone’s respect running that rune set in WvW
Here’s the build I run, and a video that shows it in action:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fFEQJArdhMMqeWywzBf0ANAGxjQRQ8EIA8BLmFaCA-TlCEABUcgAwUlACeAAJquzWKBZS5Xb6B6QDBAnQgY2fIAwBglXe5lXe5+93f/93fLFQVKjA-wHave you though about running arcane lightning over aeromancer’s alacrity? With arcane blast you will have the effect up most of the time duration is 15 sec where the skill only has a 20 sec cd. Its a free +10% crit dmg.
I’ve thought about it – but – and this is purely my preference –
I prefer to have aeromancers alacrity because it gives me more opportunities to use Gale and Swirling Winds. I’ve been roaming with S/F for a long time now and I feel like having more swirling winds up has saved my team several times. In a 1v1 situation, Arcane Lightning may be a better choice, but I normally run with a 3 man party and the swirling winds help keep them alive as well.
I do my best to air burst and rotate out of air as fast as i can, unless i’m channeling my AA on someone. The traited cooldowns for lightning strike and blinding flash are very low. If you watch the camp fight in the video i posted earlier, we should have lost that engagement, the yak escorts, and a full compliment of lvl 82 guards, in addition to the 5 or 6 enemy players, would have been a great deal more punishing if i wasn’t nullifying the scouts (and their kittening blinds) with Swirling Winds.
Being almost completely glass – It’s important to be able to buy yourself time to regen and heal, and unless you’re being trained down by some melee, swirling winds does a great job.
Staff is also the weapon of choice for Elementalists in WvW -
http://youtu.be/Bb_7EDiHFFM?t=1m25s
you dont need to be tanky, your positioning just needs to be good =D
well, look at it this way, the PPT tick is every 15mins right, assuming an average tick of 200-300. Imagine how many kills your server can get in that time period, even more for using finishers with bloodlust active. So yea its gotta be pretty big, at least for higher pop servers, its basically designed to reward zerging, while no swords was designed to reward havok/roamers.
Are the number of kills during those 15 minutes is significant compared to 200-300? Perhaps 1-2 hours around primetime, but I doubt it (for tiers T3 at lower) outside of that.
In the end, it’s probably still nightcapping and pop imbalance that determines the outcome. PPK’s a nice illusion for players to think they’re making a more personal impact for their server, but in the end, it’s just that, an illusion.
My server typically does terrible right out the gate at reset – but with PPK being a factor we’re able to remain competitive for those first 3 hours of the match until the guild rallies come to a close. (our matches have been COMPLETELY blown out for the last 2 1/2 months) It’s not an illusion when you’re 200 points short of FA when they’re ticking 400 in the first 20 minutes of reset.
When you do a custom emote to an enemy – all they see is “Desolation Silver Scout Gestures”
they can’t see your custom emotes. Only standard ones
Hamster, why are you running blasting staff in your Fresh Air build link?
rofl cause im slow and lazy at changing build editors. it’s a recurring thing.

Triumphant Distortion can work on mesmer if you’re in a guild raid where your team is able to consistently generate downs. I wouldnt use it for militia zergs.
