Colin Johanson on how arenanet measures success.
(Please no gear treadmills, Colin!)
Thank you Colin and rest of Anet for listening! I really enjoyed the Flame & Frost dungeon and was sad to see it go away never to return. Content like that is something that is fun to visit, even if it’s just for nostalgia. (I used to go back to Sorrow’s Furnace in GW1 all the time just cause it was fun. Forgeman had to die every bounty.) Please keep focusing on balancing rewards (either by making some farms better or making CofP1 more similar to other rewards) and adding permanent content to the game. You’re doing a great job with pretty much everything else!
The guild was franchise is all about different cultures. Nightfall was all about African and Middle Eastern culture, Factions was all about Asian cultures. To say you don’t want to see different themes in an MMO entitled Guild Wars is kind of silly.
By the way, gaming in African themed landscapes seems especially rare to me but I love Istan and Kourna. Do any other games have such settings? I applaud Anet for choosing the themes it did.
can you elaborate? Do you want a guaranteed yellow item for each drop?
Like many players, I also hate RNG and I can testify: I have never heard any player demanding a guaranteed yellow from every drop. That is ridiculous.
In Guild Wars 1, they realized how annoying RNG is, so they came up with a different system for DoA. Instead of giving a guaranteed high level item for every single drop, they gave tokens you could save to get an armbrace, and then the armbraces could be used to get the very hard to get skins.
You seem to think there are only two options: rares everywhere or the ridiculous gambling RNG system they have now. There are others.
Mesmer is one of the most fun classes to play and it’s one of the strongest so it will be hard to switch. I happen to like my Thief just as much, probably due to stealth and silly permablind PvE builds, and the fact that they are also good (like mesmer) in PvP. I’d give a shout to warrior in PvE for their damage, and guardian for their team ability. The other four seem pretty lousy to me in comparison though.
I didn’t see anyone answer my questions for which sigils work best with phantasm builds yet. Any ideas?
Bugged for me too!
Now I’m curious as to how this duel went!
I use the torch for a 2nd escape method, but I think you are right. Maybe I should drop it in favor of pistol or focus (for movement.) How good is the sword phantasm? I will get phantasmal fury, thanks for reminding me of the trait. Does anyone have any sigil recommendations?
I got no idea what I’m doing, or really what role I want, but I’ve had a little bit of success in PvP with this build:
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-Ng-FkFKWPVz0O7cWF71;9;4JJ-O429-34;243;24-F04;1sV2DsV2D0JY
It’s not good and like I said, I’m still learning my role as a PvP mesmer. Can anyone offer up suggestions, or clarification as to what I really should be doing as a mesmer in PvP?
I believe the requirement is being in the circle and doing enough damage to the Claiming NPC, but this is the 2nd time it happened. Maybe I didn’t do enough damage to the NPC, but I was in the circle and did damage on both occasions. Both times, no credit.
Strongest weapon: staff
I’m guessing the staff endorsers are talking full out CD builds?
The last three games I entered filled up by the time I loaded in even though there were two slots left at the time I clicked. It then kind of leaves me spectating and I have to click to leave. Could we have something that either guarantees a slot upon click or insta kicks if it is full when you get there? I don’t want to observe when I am trying to get my PvP daily done.
Thank you Rouven for all your help, submitted.
Completed all hints, but the game still isn’t giving me credit. Says I’m only at 81/83. Anyway someone can override this so I can get credit?
Trying out the screenshot. As you can see (if the pic goes through) everything is checked off, but I am missing two achievements somehow.
So just to check, when I go to the screen with the help icon (from the menu at top left) if I see a check then it should have given me credit for that one?
When I click the little hint button it shows me the hints by category. I have a little check next to every hint and I counted them up. They match the ones in the wiki here exactly: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Hints I have the same number of hints listed in each category as shown there yet it says 81/83 hints completed.
I don’t know what else to try.
I am two points away from the Hint Completion title. Is there any way to find out which hints I need to get and how to get them? I really don’t understand this achievement, but I want it because it’s so close it’s bugging me!
I’m also scared about this comment on the wiki:
>When a hint pops up, you must close the hint window before it goes away on its own to get credit for this achievement.
Does this mean if I accidentally let a window go away on its own, then there is no way for me ever to get the achievement?
Also, I have eight level 80’s so shouldn’t that mean the hints for all professions have already appeared?
Thank you, Auesis for that clear response!
I’m fine with gemstore minis being accountbound, but I’d like to be able give them as gifts. Maybe set it up so that you can pay gems for a friend to get the mini sent to them? Then it could be accountbound to their account. I would definitely buy minis for my friends, and I think others would like this too. Anet would also make some nice profit off this!
So I’ve been enjoying stealing boons, but for the life of me it looked like I could not steal any of the effigies might in CoFP1. Does this not work against certain opponents? Perhaps those with defiant?
Sorry for an obscure and noobish question. Just wondering if what I was seeing made any sense.
Edit: I don’t normally play thief at all, so forgive me if I don’t know something obvious.

I’d go with engineer for complexity. You have to be really good to make it work though.
Would be nicest to send the actual mini or 400 gems straight to him, but I can send gold instead (and hopefully the exchange rate will stay the same.) Might be nice if Anet makes it easier to gift gemstore items. I’d make some purchases, and Anet would make some $$$. I’ll post that to suggestions.
My friend mentioned he liked the lion mini, and I desperately want to buy it for him, but it is account bound. Is there anyway I could buy it for him? (Even a roundabout method would be cool.)
I see the number of players so I won’t join a group for 8v8 when there are 16 people there. The problem is if there are 13 people in an 8v8 then my loading screen may take long enough for 3 people to get in who also clicked the same time as I did. I would rather it not allow me to join at all than allow me to join without room for me to play. Perhaps they could find a way to work on this. I liked pre-observer times when I just couldn’t get in if it was full.
My loading screen times are not all that short (even though I have a decent computer) so when I get to my match, there seem to only be spectator spots left. Sometimes this happens 3 times before I can actually get into a match. Anyway around this?
If your a pve’er why on earth would you do a pvp daily, the reward gives you NOTHING pve wise.
It gives achievements to help you rise up the leaderboard. It’s a meaningful amount. 5 per day is 150 per month which can make a big difference with your ranking.
Same happened to me today.
I just completed the fractal with friends. In order to ensure my safety I sat put while they delivered the wisps. I carefully made my way to mossman (not too hard since the distance is short) and completed the fractal. No achievement. I think you must need to carry a wisp. Otherwise the achievement must be bugged.
I think I was bored after 50 of these. The idea was good, but my opinion is that the number was a bit too high, so it just ended up feeling too grindy. Thanks for the effort. Just tossing my opinion in for future Monthly development.
It should not be soulbound, but it does seem Anet has been pushing against multiple character usage these days.
I belive it’s impossible to get 500 points at the EXACTLY same time. One always gets it a bit faster.
I had my first 500-500 game a couple days ago, I’d post screenshot when I got home but someone beat me to it with theirs.
Three requests from me: Accountbound, accountbound, accountbound! I like playing each of my toons, and it’s too much for me to make big purchases for just one character. I guess some people will buy the pick for all 8 professions (or more if they double up with two or more characters of one profession) but I wonder if that minority really makes it worth it. Normal picks are accountbound. It would have been nice for me if this was too.
Well I’m happy to bring John to the thread! So I guess I was wrong and the picks are selling better than I thought, and people are going wild trying to show off their new item. Too bad much of my wealth is currently tied up in the 25-26 stacks of 250 Ori I’m holding.
It was hovering by 3.6 for a bit but now it’s crashing down towards 3. I can’t figure out what is causing this. It shouldn’t be too tied to the price of Ectos as you need both Ectos and Ori to craft exotic gear. It shouldn’t have to do with the release of the new pick, as not enough people have bought the pick to cause an Ori mining rampage (and their decision whether to mine hardly should be influenced by this as it is profitable to mine Ori regardless.) Any ideas as to what is causing this?
I can understand that. I wish I hadn’t gotten my Guardian to level 28 FotM in full ascended/exotic gear given that I don’t like the race of the character. That was my silliness though.
Thank you so much FateOmega, I can try the ones that have foes nearby again first.
It did add up! And in the end my reward was a big 36/37. I regret trying this so much.
Just to let you know, I had done some before but I wasn’t sure which ones, so I carefully went through them all one at a time following Dulfy. I should have noticed when the ticker did go up, so at least I can be sure of which ones got counted, but didn’t.
Same here. Went through them one by one using Dulfy’s guide. Was very careful to do them all even though I had done some before. I know every location now well but can’t get 37.
I’m having the same problem. 26/27. Tried the 1st store in zone 1. Doesn’t help. Made it through all the way to the end of the raft. I don’t know what else to try.
Tryed zone 2 again. For some reason, after 3 hours of doing smth else, just completed my achivement in a spot I runned into many other times. But this time it gave me achivement. Eh… It was zone 2 btw.
Yeah, went and did zone 2 a second time. Don’t know what happened but this time it gave it to me at the end. Thanks.

Cutscenes are SUCH an improvement over the sideways dialog chat windows in the personal story. It’s what made playing the story in GW1 so much better than the personal story in GW2.
Game Over
One month a year is great for something like this, give people something to look forward to!
for pvp?
Whoops, should have been specific but I forgot sPvP existed:)
Looking for builds for general PvE dungeons and Fractals.
With the buff to scepter and the extra finisher in evasive arcana, I was thinking about dusting off my Elementalist and taking it out again. Anyone have a good and current S/D build with Evasive Arcana? (I’ve always gone staff or D/D when I used to play Ele, but that was a few months ago.)
Edit: I guess S/F would be good as well, if there are any effective builds with focus, so S/F or S/D.
How come when I destroy a Reef Skelk Nest in Southsun it drops “Scale Eggs?” Shouldn’t it drop Skelk eggs? Are the two biologically connected and different parts of some same life cycle? Or is it just a bug?
When instance creators leave dungeons, the whole group should not be kicked. Happened twice to me yesterday in groups that were doing well (FotM on 3rd fractal, and FotM on 2nd Fractal.) Can’t say why the creators left as it was a pug both times, but it wasn’t out of frustration, since both times we were doing fine.
It may be hard to code, but the instance should be handed to another member of the party. There’s no reason to kick the whole group. Is there any reason why it must be the way that it is?
Theres no issue. It should be like this. If i make a group, set rules, set tactics to be used and people dont listen, they have no right being in my run and if I want to leave, they should be kicked out.
What are you talking about? The person leaving didn’t make any rules in either circumstance. They were just the person to enter first. I don’t even think that they made the party in either case (though I could be wrong about that.) Saying that people weren’t obeying their orders so they left, that is just making up stuff that didn’t happen.
Both groups were doing good. There was no one not following orders, and no one giving orders.
I’m not making this up. This happened both last night and this morning. Both times the entire party was kicked to LA. I guess I don’t know what caused it, I had assumed the creator disconnected. Here are the possibilities:
1) There is anew bug that kicks 4 of 5 people to LA and drops one for some reason we don’t yet know.
2) Something is wrong and when the maker disconnects it does still kick the party to LA.
3) The leader of the pug switched characters (both times? Hardly likely)
4) The instance leader left the group.
Maybe it is #4, but in that case they still need to fix the problem. Just have it switch the instance creator to another character. It’s not right that I keep running FotM with decent groups, and don’t get credit.
So right now, if the maker disconnects your entire group is kicked from FotM. Last night I was in a good group doing FotM level 26. Just made it to the 3rd fractal and boom. All of us kicked.
This morning, I joined a different team. We just made it to the 2nd fractal when… disconnect again! All of us kicked to LA. I’m so tired of this. Yes it’s fun, but I am playing well, my teams are playing well, and we’re not getting the tokens and gear we are supposed to be getting. This needs to change. If the maker disconnects (Edit: or leaves the group) the game should automatically set a new maker for the group.
Edit: In before “Why don’t you always make?” This still wouldn’t be fair if I did disconnect, and it limits being able to increase fractal level since you can’t only run evens and advance that way. That’s not the right solution.
Edit2: In before “Don’t run with that person anymore.” It’s been pugs both times. Not every guild has enough people to run FotM 26, which is what I run on my warrior and on my guardian.
Edit3: People are telling me that when the maker leaves the group (not just disconnects) the whole party is kicked. Maybe that’s what is happening here, since I’m running with pugs and don’t know the people. I don’t see why the maker left because both groups were doing well but it is definitely possible. In that case, its just as bad. The other 4 players should not be penalized because one player leaves. ANet needs to fix this, and fast! I’m tired of not getting credit when the group is doing well.
