I still think it’s strange that here ( https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Please-a-clear-statement-re-AFK-farming/page/6#post6161450 ) Cleary specifically says you have to be using skills while AFK for it to be considered wrong. It says in that post that they only consider this type of farm wrong if you’re doing ALL three. I was definitely doing 2 of the three, and I’ve been very honest about that this whole time. But I’m also being honest about the fact that I was only doing two of the three things listed.

The ban was very short and I’m not angry, but I want to know what the policy actually is for the future, if it’s not what they said in that post.

Well I was definitely AFKing, and definitely would have been unresponsive to anyone asking because I was AFK, but I wasn’t hitting any key repeatedly. And I didn’t have any program to hit keys for me and never even looked into such programs as I know they violate ToS. (I even open stacks of bags by hand even though I’m sure there are programs to click for me.) I didn’t have my heal on auto and my character wasn’t attacking. According to that link (which says that it’s only illegal if you are doing all three) then I -definitely- should be good according to Anet.

Edit: After reading that thread, I should add that I do have a G710+ logitech keyboard and G602 mouse. Neither of these is set to do any automatic keystrokes. In fact I haven’t programmed any of the programmable keys on the board or buttons on the mouse, because I haven’t wanted to read how to set these up properly yet.

First off, thank you very much for the very respectful reply. If you’re correct I’d like to see any comment that leaving your minions up and letting them farm till you get logged out is not allowed by the devs. I did see several threads both here and on reddit, and the conclusion I saw in both places was that this is “intended behavior” but that Anet may change their opinion in the future. If this is not allowed I would like to see what was officially said.

I don’t regret giving information in this thread, as I wasn’t doing anything that I was trying to hide. I am very open about what I was doing and the fact that I did not do it at all until that developer comment. It’s actually probably easy to check that I didn’t play my Necro at all until after Henniger’s comment, and that I’ve spent almost all my time sitting in one location on that character.

I was not using any third party program. I did not try to put my heal on auto and my character was not attacking. I am aware that some people may use click software to keep their character in longer, but I was not doing that.

@Taegos It isn’t logging me out quickly, and I’m honestly not using anything but autoloot. I’m not putting any skills on autoattack either. I just set my character down and sit there.

@Penelope If it wasn’t allowed behavior I wouldn’t do it. Like I said, I dusted off my Necro that I wasn’t even playing to try it. I wouldn’t risk a ban for a few stacks of bags but I saw the post where Mike Henniger said this was okay.

Edit: I will say my character doesn’t stay logged in forever. When I come back after enough time, it will be timed out and I have to click my character and reset minions. However, it does last a while, and I am not lying about the fact that I have no programs installed to hit keys on my keyboard or click my mouse or anything like that.

So I’m not using any 3rd party programs at all, but just got a 22 hour ban for using 3rd party programs.

After Michael Henninger’s “This is allowed behavior” comment, I dusted off my Necro (which I never played anymore) and geared it up to try Minion Farming. I’ve been doing it without using ANY third party programs. Nothing to push any keystrokes at all or move my character. I don’t even keep my heal on autoattack. I just sat my Necro down and had autoloot collecting the goods.

Is this no longer allowed? Or is there something that looks like a 3rd party program? I have Teamspeak, but that’s really the only other thing I have running. If there’s something running that looks 3rd party, I want to know as I’ve never used a bot or keyclicker in any game.

There isn’t a support forum in the beta, so I figured I’d ask this here. My hard drive has 4 partitions. Three have space, but C does not. When I tried to install the beta client, it decided to put it in C (without asking) instead of the partition that I have GW2 installed in. Well it got to 92% completely filling up my C drive and then giving me an error message.

1. How do I get everything it downloaded off of the C drive? I’m worried windows won’t have room for updates and stuff. I really don’t want anything there except for the operating system. Plus a 92% download still doesn’t help me play in the beta.

2. How do I get it to install in one of the three partitions that still has space?

Edit: Found someone who knew were the files were located to help me. Problem FIXED!

And if you can run all four of those paths in the time it takes you to do one dredge fractal, I don’t want to run fractals with you.

I could say something nasty back, but I won’t. There’s enough of that on these forums. I will say that if those 4 paths sound time consuming to you then I’d like to run them with you and show you how to speedclear them . They are super fast and give 1.26g each! I’d rather teach than have to avoid running something with someone.

I’ll admit, I’m one of those dredge avoiders you speak of. It’s really faster to start over most times than it is to do dredge. I honestly would like to run fractals with you cause I’d like to see how you run through dredge (though I don’t believe it’s as fast as you think) and if any of the other fractals seem long or difficult, I think I can make them seem not that way.

Cliffside is no harder than the other fractals and doesn’t need any changes in my opinion. I defend my use of “clearly” in my post. Maybe it’s not clear to everyone but it’s clear to me that Anet didn’t intentionally design one fractal to be four times as long as the others. I don’t remember how dredge runs at lower levels, but I ran a 48 every day for a long time, and dredge is the only thing that makes fractals long and painful. When it doesn’t come up runs are smooth and fast.

Also, loot is no justification. In the time of one dredge fractal completion you can complete HotW1, CoF1, SE1&3 and then sit down and count your money for 15 minutes. The amount you make from dredge is insignificant compared to the time it takes.

Once Ascended armor comes, those who choose not to craft Ascended zerker gear will likely never change their gear again — so the DPS problem is only going to get worse.

Agree strongly. Right now I carry multiple armor sets on the three professions I play most often. Once Ascended armor comes, it’s going to be hard enough to outfit each of those characters with just one set. Nevermind a choice in ascended armors. The problem will get worse as we will be tightly bound to our stats.

There are a lot of “Learn to Play” responses when people discuss dredge, and yes it CAN be done at high levels, but the issue is every other fractal (including the new ones) can be done in much less time. It’s a lot longer than the others. “Get a Fast Team” responses can be countered with, the fast team will be even faster at the other fractals because they are already short!

In any case, if there was one change Anet should have made to FotM it is this: Make Dredge Fractal shorter.

I have an ascended FotM backpiece without any of the 250 ecto upgrades. I believe if I upgrade before the patch, I get an extra slot and one will contain a +5 infusion (come Tuesday’s patch.) If I wait then upgrade Tuesday my infusion goes away and I get two empty slots. So it is better to pay the 250 ectos now than to wait. Is this correct? The gatering booster for 33%

How much of an epic pay-off? I’d be curious to see actual numbers. How much gold can you make pure-gathering in an hour? For 150 gems, you can get about 8.5 gold right now. That means you’d need to be able to make about 25 gold in a normal hour of gather-grinding before that +33% would come out equal.

I haven’t been pure-gathering, but I have been hanging out in T2 to T4 areas the last week and picking up every node along my way, and it’s not paying anywhere close to that. I’d like to hear what more experienced gather-hoarders are pulling.

I use come up with a path where I visit clumps of nodes ignoring farther away ones, and run it on eight characters a night. I think I make very close to but under 10g an hour doing this on average. It’s nowhere close to the 25g/hour you mentioned you would need to make this pay off.

Help! I can't pug FotM 48 anymore.

Bit of both for fractals. If the grawl shaman keeps going into add phases with half of the party members sub 50% due to their inability to dodge arrows…. then yeah that party is going to have problems – especially when a guard wasted their reflects during the non-add phase to protect from said arrows.

You’re assuming that the guardians you’re pugging with actually have reflects or even know that such skills exist on their profession. I’ve met some pretty bad guardians pugging fractals.

Try pugging sub-10 or 10 for daily and you may even get ppl rage quitting at swamp.
Have no clue abut 48, I am just entering 30s, but I found the 20s pug groups to be much better than in lower lvls. I was kinda hoping the trend would be continuing upwards :S

It was in a 48 yesterday that I got the guardian that wouldn’t talk and wouldn’t use reflects, even in the grawl boss fight. There are some pretty bad people pugging 48.

I get decent pugs all the time for 48. IDK how you keep getting bad ones or are you just very picky?

Wouldn’t say I’m picky. I think I should be able to complete one fractals session (including maw) in under 4 hours. Yesterday I had a 3.5 hour session that ended up failing and getting no end rewards. The time before that was similar. Yes, when I get lucky enough to have some competent people I’m aware that I can speed through often in under an hour (depending mostly on dredge.) I have not been getting those kinds of groups. People should know that reflects exist. People should talk sometimes to the rest of the team. People should have more than zero agony resist before they attempt a fractal at 48. Is stuff like that asking too much?

I play in oceaning WvW guild primarily and it’s hard to do high level fractals with people I know. I would do L48 Fractals with you if you want, currently sitting at 45 AR (haven’t bother trying for 40+ fract so no point in increasing my AR. I main a Serker Warrior for fractals.

What time (server) do you usually run. I sometimes play in the morning in EST so I might be able to run with you in (your) evening.

You said you were pugging before going to work. Depending of the time of the day you get lots of people that don’t speak english, so maybe thats what is making your runs so difficult. I believe pugging around the server reset is the best time to find good pugs.

You may be right. I usually run FotM at 7am PST. Don’t usually have to leave for work till 11 PST so it’s a nice stretch of time. I could be some of the players who won’t respond really can’t speak any English. I don’t usually get home till a few hours after reset, but perhaps that would be better for me than what I am trying.

I only ever pug and never had any runs at 48 that actually failed. Sure someone might drop out at some point, but most people who do 48 are quite competent. I admit, I haven’t actually run a 48 since the fractal update was announced, could that have lowered the competencies of fractal 48 runners? What class do you run? Maybe it’s because I play a guardian myself that I’ve never really had 3.5 hour fail runs? Might wanna try getting a guardian up to 48, see if that helps.

I run warrior in FotM. I do have a Guardian at FotM 28 with no ascended weapon or backpiece. I don’t really enjoy playing guardian though (but I’d be willing to use Wall of Reflection which is more than some of the folks I’ve encountered.) My second favorite profession is Mesmer (which I haven’t done fractals with yet) so I don’t think I’d want to spend more time on my Guardian or buy it ascended weapons & back.

I have no idea why anyone would take a pug to a high level fractal run. .

It had been working for a bit. I got an ascended box and a few fractal weapons all from pugging, but lately it seems I’ve been getting worse groups. (and lately I haven’t been able to find people from the guild [FotM] to run with at all.) Recently I had one guy that wouldn’t talk that had 0 AR and had never done a fractal. He did speak english but didn’t know what AR was so didn’t want to respond. We figured it out by Bloomhunger though.

Stop doing fractals.

Oh wait, nvm, feel free to add me in game. I have a regular group of 3 or 4 that usually runs a 48 and we’ll have to carry somebody or PUG. We don’t do it too often anymore, but we might start back up.

Another thing to do is start adding people from PUGs that are actually good. PM then whenever you wanna run one and you guys might start to form a regular group.

Thanks! I will do, but what time do you guys usually run?

I just can’t take it.

First off: I want to keep doing FotM because I like the teamwork required for different parts, I love the fractal weapon skins, I feel like I actually have to pay attention, the dungeons are better designed than many explorable paths. So I’m not looking for any “Just stop doing fractals” responses (though I may get a few.)

I’ve had great success sometimes pugging it, but lately I’ve been getting bad groups every single time. Today I was in a group that failed after 3.5 hours! That’s right, instance creator leaving, going back in, another creator leaving when the team couldn’t do something, starting over, getting to dredge 3rd, and failing and had to go to work. The group contained (at certain points) a guardian who refused to use reflects at all, players who refused to talk or say anything no matter what was asked, and people with obviously insufficient AR. I can’t take the pugs. I know I’m not 100% perfect but I know my role, I communicate, I have the AR, and I’m experienced enough to always make it with a competent group.

I’m in [FotM] but there aren’t enough people in the guild yet to always get a group. I’m one of only two people in my guild (a large one) that runs fractals at that level. Help?!

Lets say someone buys 100 gold worth of silver doubloons, and this patch rolls along. What happens then. Is the 100 gold gone because silver doubloon demand is gone too?
Reimbursing would probably have to take place, and Arenanet doesn’t reimburse people that are associated with the market.

That’s just not true. I never got reimbursed for my TP losses. I sold my unidentified dyes before they shot up in price, but that doesn’t mean anet should reimburse me because I made a bad decision. The person that bought the doubloons still has the doubloons, they just paid more than they needed to for them. I paid more than I needed for lots of things, because I do take risks and make mistakes. There’s nothing wrong with it and there is not way anet should be reimbursing people.

Consider one more example. I buy gems right before they shoot up in worth. Does that mean anet needs to take some of those gems away? No! Let people take risks and play the market. The winners make gold, the losers lose gold. It’s all good.

Can someone post a link to the actual traits and build for a MM power (not cond) build? I haven’t played Nec in a long time but I’d like to try solo roaming (farming T6 nodes.) I’d need swiftness and some survivability.

LF Solo Node Farm Engi Build

I stopped playing my lvl 80 Engi a long time ago. I’d like to take it out now to mine T6 wood and ore. I was in exotic MF armor, so I’ll need to choose an armor set I can set stats to.

Want:
Swiftness
Some survivability
Ability to fight if creatures are blocking my node

Anyone got suggestions for a build for me?

Magic Find %... Does it really matter?

I have 153 + 7 + 30 = 190% MF when I run dungeons (luck/achs/omnom.) Yesterday I ran three ACs with a friend at 50%MF and just compared drops from the trash at spider. Both times he had double the dust I had and I had double the junk he had. I understand this is a VERY small sample, but I think it’s worth conducting some more tests. Has my chance of getting good stuff gone down due to my MF?

What I’ll need is a situation where we can both tag every mob, and we can compare the amount of junk and better items with the same amount of trials on a large scale. I’m thinking borderland centaurs since we have to make sure we both hit and get credit for each one (so no 1 hit trash.)

I don’t mind it if it inconveniences botters. It happens to me all the time because I sometimes go to WvW for the bank, and you get kicked sooner there for inactivity.

Does staff have a use outside full cd builds?

I run S/P – S/S in PvP and S/F – GS in PvE. I happen to have found an accountbound staff in my bank that I have to set stats for (must have had MF on it, the name is “Delusion”.) I’ve never really used staff and I’m wondering if it has any use in WvW or PvE outside a full condition damage build. Any suggestions?

High damage non Lightning Hammer build?

Thank you all for the links and tips. One more question. My only exotic armor for my Elementalist was all MF. I need to transmute it into something. I know some people say Ele is the only class where Celestial makes sense, but my instinct is to go zerker and live dangerously. Any thoughts on how good Celestial really is for Eles?

So I’m getting that for a decent damage build, I’m going to have to rely on conjured weapons?

450-475 Period

in Crafting

A few posts here mention crafting mats to get from 450-475 and I wanted some details I couldn’t find in the other threads.

1) Why isn’t this mentioned in any craft guides like here http://gw2crafts.net/weaponcraft_400.html or here http://www.guildwars2hub.com/guides/crafting/guild-wars-2-weaponsmith-leveling-guide-400-500 ?

2) I believe the only things we can craft are Lump of Mithrillium, Deldrimor Steel Ingot, Glob of Elder Spirit Residue, Spiritwood Plank, Spool of Thick Elonian Cord and Elonian Leather Square. Is this correct? And with the once a day requirement won’t this be slow?

3) Many people in these threads mentioned the diminishing returns making this indefeasible past a point though some people say they made it all the way from 450 to 470. About how many of these would we need to craft to get to a good stopping point (460,465, 470 whichever is feasable)? I want to try to calculate how much this stage will cost me and how many days I will have to wait with the time gating.

Thanks so much for any help you can give.

Edit: I forgot in #2 about Bloodstone Brick, Dragonite Ingot, and Empyreal Star. Three more possibilities. Does that complete the list?

Questions about crafting lvl 450-500

in Crafting

This is not an answer but a question on a question since I am about to try what you are doing.

> They all give +- 1/5th of a crafting lvl.

So you mean each day we can make one lump and one glob and that will give us 2/5ths of a single craft level? Thus if we want to get from 450 to 475 we would need say 62.5 days? That would be without diminishing returns. That’s horrible. Is that why all the crafting guides I’ve read (like this: http://gw2crafts.net/weaponcraft_400.html) skip that part and just tell you to keep making exotics for 5-6g each?

Haven’t played Ele in many months so I am really out of date. Does anyone have a high damage build that doesn’t involve lightning hammer and just the 1 key?

Blood farming spot?

Try Ice Flow Waypoint in Frostgorge Sound. The skelks to the south of there drop T5 & T6 bloods regularly. As long as that isn’t the only way you’re planning on getting your bloods (buying is of course quicker), you should be able to reduce your costs by spending a little while there now and again.

1st skelk I killed there gave me one, and the drops are not too bad. Too bad there aren’t more of them. I tried killing that bunch, then head north to fight more. Had a bit of luck so far. Southsun has also been good.

I’m actually not sure about that. The price of claws is still 5 silver or so less than blood so that would save me 12.5 gold! Only thing is, it would really suck if I built it and it had one of the new different stat types on it…
