Depend on what build the enemies have, but against an enemy without any AoE damage; the spirit build works well.
When thieves or engi’s pulling me to a blue platform, im crying. Please remove the map. Capricorn was a lot better.
Indeed, Corrupt Boon fails A LOT, while it is unblockable.
Take out the class that will probably is the most dangerous for you first. Mostly thieves or elementalists. Don’t start off randomly with corrupt boon, cuz this skill can save your life if used wisely.
Take a minion master if you’re not an experienced PvPer. Necro’s seem decent right now, they lack certain things, but nearly all professions do. Most of the times, it is indeed a case of learning how to play.
I like the scepter, but it depends on your build indeed.
There is still a difference between the invisible thief backstab which is very hard to dodge and the Signet of Spite which is very easy to dodge (there are barely any other utilities that have the same clear graphical clarity). People should really not whine so often about Necro’s. Only Minion Masters and the Nightmare armor should have some changes. Necro’s have a lot of weaknesess as well, just find them and adjust your style of playing to that.
Unless they ask for a specific class/set I never seen that happen, it’s pve no one cares besides those tryhards (wich you wouldnt want to party anyway).
No one has time to kill all the minions + the necro and live, it’s a brain dead spec which shouldnt be even considered in spvp (really AI doing the work for you?) but since it gets the job done well enough, less capable people are bound to play it.
Try a profession with some AoE attacks and you will see.
Certain classes just do have a disadvantage against other classes, such as a warrior to a MM necro. But necro has disadvantage to thief and engi again, and ranger to warrior for example.
I love Spirit Watch and I would love to see them in Team Arenas. Agreed with Skyhammer, thats a sucky map. Certain classes are way in advantage compared to others on that map.
As for the necro:
1. Nerf DS attacks while the necro is stunned? Like Necro’s do have stunbreakers all over the place. Nah, they barely got any stun breakers, and this even isn’t a true stunbreaker. Let this be.
2. Dhuumfire already got nerfed, corrupt boon as well. Corrupt boon is a decent skill but misses pretty often as well. People need to learn the difference between good skills that are used against them, and skills that are overpowered and way out of balance with other skills (which Corrupt Boon isn’t).
3. Same goes for Signet of Spite, but with a long cooldown on this skill and the loss of the passive, this skill does not need to be nerfed. There is a clear graphical image when this skill is used, and is dodged very easily.
4. Let me guess… you’re a thief?
mm necro is one of the easiest build almost fully carried by minions AI. so why not? its rly good choice for newbies/pvers that never played pvp before.
Yeh sure, cuz necro is very good in PvE ^o). Dont talk about things you don’t know.
Further more there are some easier classes to play in PvP such as warrior and thief (lame class) and much necro’s dont play MM at all.Lol what’s bad in pve? Please tell me what class is bad in PVE…
MM necro IS easy to play just check the combat log, most damage is done by the Minions, maybe you dont know what you are talking about?
Bad in PvE? For example when you do not get accepted in a dungeon party cuz you’re a necro. They are actually worse in PvE than the other classes also due to the max condi stacking etc. Further more I am not talking about MM necro’s, lots of necro’s do not play that build. MM necro’s are for certain classes easy to kill such as other necro’s, mesmers and ele’s. Their power IS their minions, so just destroy their minions first and they are doomed to die.
For me it seems the attack misses a lot more since the patch too, but not sure.
Corrupt Boon will be you friend here.
Guardian i’d say.

I liked the 8vs8 as well to be honest. At least it brought more action.
As a necro I have problems with them too. We barely got any stability or stuff like that to hold those stuns off. And the skills that we do have (such as spectral walk) have a way longer refresh rate than those hammer stuns.
One word fear…… You can do that quiet often. At least the nerco I face does.
I use that as much as I can, still not good enough. They have much stability and fear lasts only for a short time. Sometimes I can defeat them, but I have the feeling that if the hammer warrior plays it right, the necro don’t have much chance.
I’m a fan of the focus especially in PvP. 4 for decent damage and vuln, 5 for slowing targets down and removing their boons. Good range on it, especially with the right traits. Very useful against warriors and guardians mainly.

I haven’t noticed any improvements on the thieves/warriors yet. And Necro’s got too much of a buff? Which ones lol.
hammer warriors do indeed have too much stuns.
You want to tank in the middle of a group with 0 points into blood magic and 10 in death magic? Not optimal if you ask me. Necro’s are a ranged class if you do not wear daggers (which you don’t). Then there is no need to rush into the middle of groups. Only wellomancers could be capable doing that.
Furthermore I don’t like Epidemic in spvp since there are too much 1 vs 1 situations which makes this an useless skill, I would change it for corrupt boon anytime. Plague signet is not preferable for me either, spectral walk is more useful instead (stunbreak as well). I would miss having a grandmaster signet as well.
Stupid to make those lists. Maybe a guardian in 1 vs 1 is not too strong (though certain berserker guards I have seen can do severe damage and seem pretty strong) but in a 2 vs 2 or more a guardian is probably the most valuable ally to have. Same probably for necro.
If you are looking for a solo player go thief, warrior or ranger.
Just experiment with this profession until you have found a build that suits you. It might be one of the harder classes to level up with (PvE). After april 15th it is free to change your build (traits) so probably you should wait a bit until you want to try other builds than your current. For builds in PvE you should try to obtain the utility skills Epidemic and Well of power probably.
It sucks that many originally called ‘’melee-classes’’ can outrange some ranged-classes. Hambow warrior is at the top with that. Above that, I started playing this game as a ranger because it was unique to be able to use a (long)bow. Now, ranger does not feel unique at all anymore.
SoS is a very decent skill but necro lacks other things to compensate. A thing that certain warriors do not have.
A good skill doesn’t mean te same as an overpowered skill. Warrior hammer skills and thief’s invisibility are far more out of line than SoS.
Ridiculous. Just run away with like an hour of stealth. Lol.
Just the amount of times and the duration of getting invisible is too large by thieves.
Longer casting time will be a bad solution, the signet has a long refresh time and is dodged or blocked pretty often. Reducing passive power to 8% will make the skill useless I think. If it bothers that much, remove the poison.
Good idea. Indeed pretty much no one likes underwater combat so moving the capture point to land is a decent option. I started to like this map after a while. Skyhammer has way more issues that need to be altered.
I meant that indeed. I think it is very useful in most cases.
DS 3 is not a stunbreaker its an instant cast spell(i think?) but its def not a stunbreaker. And you can use flesh wurm as a stunbreaker which imo is one of the better minions anyway becuz its ranged.
Yeh Im sorry I made a technically wrong statement. You can indeed cast it instantly, but since the attack causes fear it functionates as a stun breaker, although the warrior should not have stability at that moment ofc.
Stun warriors are a problem for me too, but try using spectral walk (stun breaker) run away and then teleport back. Now youre behind him and can cast several conditions on him. In DS 3rd skill is stunbreaker too and Well of Power also I believe.
I always used Flesh Golem cuz of the knockdown mainly, but sadly it is bugged so it can only use this knockdown but not its normal attack.
Epidemic I only used in PvE.
I am only playing spvp. But my build with 30/30/0/10/0 is a bit different than the usual builds it seems. I like this build especially in groups vs. groups, wearing scepter/focus and staff. Utility: signet of spite, spectral walk and corrupt boon (I changed wells recently for corrupt boon, cuz this skill can murder any opponent especially eles and guardians.) Good fun to play and im still figuring out what can be done better, but you could check this build out. And it does not look like mindless spamming to me, cuz you are pretty vulnerable to thieves en mesmers most of the times.
Also to a few post up, I didn’t mean to say axe+focus & dagger+warhorn is the only viable option weapon setup. =-)
Ah, thanks, I was already disagreeing :P
I am running currently a possibly ’’unconventional’’ power build, with Scepter/Focus and Staff as weapons. I made a mix between power and conditions (with rune of the Necromancer). No one seems to try a damage/power build with a scepter, but I actually like it and I feel its viable in sPvP or tPvP. The staff gives u extra control and AoE. I also added vitality for a little better balance. I could give my exactly armor/skill setup later, but this build can be tried out and imo it’s pretty decent and fun to play.
Simply love the Twilight Arbor set on sylvari females. One of the best looking and fitting armors in the game if u ask me.
Only profession I sometimes have problems with, are Thieves. After that probably mesmers or hammer-warriors, but altogether Power Necros can surely be viable in PvP.
The length and amount of knockdowns certain warriors (I thought with hammers) can do, is sometimes ridiculous too. Some fights you just lay on the ground more than standing and being able to do something. 1vs1 you can dodge, but they seem to have more knockdown attacks than the amount of dodges I can do. And in 1vs2 it’s hard all the same.
The problem with getting away by crippling/icing is that pretty much other people are resistant to it so that’s most of the time not an option. I mainly use Spectral Walk and after a while spectral recall to get away, but Spectral walk has a pretty long cooldown. I’m a bit experimenting which Utility skills I chose; I had Signet of Spite, Spectral Walk and Well of Power a long time, but the wells didn’t seem too effective so I replaced it foor Corrupt Boon. Epidemic is a nice skill but actually only useful when you’re facing 3 or more opponents at the same time, so I did not put it my skillbar (I mainly play sPvP).
no need to troll, thieves are easily one of the most noob friendly classes next to warrior and necro.
Necro prolly harder than the noob profession u play.
Removing the disappearing blue platforms would help already.
Oh, and the Flesh Golem, my usual Elite skill does not work properly really. Lots of times it just stands around doing nothing while I am attacking.

I agree that it is not the easiest profession to play, but every profession has its own shortcommings. Necro’s lack mobility indeed, but can do severe overall damage due to the conditions and area conditions it can cast. This is why I think that a necro is good and usable in a fight with for example at least 3 vs 3, but one of the less professions in 1 vs 1 (also depends on the quality of the opponents ofc). I like playing necro, and most matches I think I am useful to my team. The only class I most of the time have problems with are thieves, they are too fast for your Marks (like Reapers Mark seems to never work on thieves) and when they are close to death they can easily escape due to the lack of our mobility. Disappearing everywhere annoys me all the time. They can be killed pretty fast, but the chance they they kill you faster is high overall.
Still, I love playing Necro, and wont quit it for sure.
go necro, we already have enough thieves in pvp. Besides, im Necro too, and I hate thieves:P
Well I didn’t play Thief, because I do not like that class. They have something ’’cowardly’’ if you ask me, due to invisibility, few high hits, etc:P
Ranger I do play. In PvP I learned that they can be useful. But lots of rangerbuilds aren’t useful. In my opinion beast mastery for example, which I did not need. My standard build was main Longbow, and second weapon shortbow. You can do decent damage, but I died pretty fast as well. Mainly Thieves and Guardians are the problems for a ranger. In WvW a ranger wasnt necessarily needed in the very big battles, but in like 8 vs 8 they seem good.
I actually only PvPed with it, so cant tell you about dungeons. Till now I found ranger good fun, so you should try it.
Oh, and I heard that a ranger with a greatsword can do very high damage. I didnt test it myself, because I think a Ranger should be a Ranger, if you get my point:)
