There are a lot of problems with Conquest, with one of the most significant problems is that many builds/traits/utilities are not designed for playing on-node PvP.

Therefore I recently joined a guild with a lot of beginning PvP’ers to teach them and play with them to make them better. I feel that if you introduce players to PvP much more intensively and more complete, that they have a larger urge to stick around in the PvP scene. Let’s make it great again.

I feel like that menders staff/longbow is quite strong in SoloQ. Versus certain classes you have lower surviving capabilities on point, but on the other hand your decapping and burst options are improved. The Ancient seeds nerf was quite bad for longbow, but its not something you can’t overcome. Overall s/d might be more effective, but when you want to mix up your ways of playing or when you want to try something different effectively, longbow is quite the way to go.

Hi Aliam,

It will take a lot of matches and time before you know exactly what the best place is to go to each moment in the game. Sometimes the choice of going somewhere is really hard, especially in SoloQ, where you can’t communicate efficiently with your teammates. When it comes down to rotation, I see many beginning pvp players making the same mistakes:

1. Once they cap a node, they just afk there to protect it. If there are no enemies around, or if you do not expect an enemy to come from their home base to that node, just leave it. Otherwise, your team will get outnumbered and you’ll lose control over the rest of the map.

2. Beginning players often join fights that are already lost. They just die there.

3. Giving up a node and not dieing is often more valuable than protecting that node for a little longer and then die eventually.

4. In most cases, holding a 1v2 by kiting and stuff is beneficial for your team. However, make sure you don’t die because of it.

5. Often, beginning players are too much focused on nodes. If you have the choices to prevent your team from dieing or to cap or decap a different node, generally you want to opt for the first one.

6. Don’t try to 1v1 an enemy you lose to over and over again. Sometimes your build is hard countered by the enemies build. Just avoid 1v1’ing them and be useful elsewhere.

Hope this helps you a little. If youre on EU, add me to friendslist, and we can play together sometime. I recently joined a guild to help people with PvP and introduce them to that game mode. Feel free to ask any further questions.

The nerfs on ranger were quite harsh. There is no ranger build that destroys people in higher tier pvp. I expect thief/mes/ele/engi/rev or necro to be new meta team. Warrior will fall out, druid already fell out a bit but will be removed from meta I think. Still, its healing potential and mobility will make sure that we will be far from useless (what we used to be once).

WvW has better gear flexibility, use of food and utility buffs instead of the kid friendly PvP Amulet system. If ANET spent half the time on WvW that it does on sPvP, then WvW could actually be great. Sadly it feels like they have a (non)progress meeting on WvW once every 3 months on a Friday at 5pm when everyone is clock watching.

If you discount the time that they spent on PvP maps, then they barely spent time on pvp at all. Besides, only one newly released map has been received well, and that one was released a very long ago. Go back then to WvW, you already say its better due to food and stuff. No one cares. If anything is kid friendly, it is zerg fest WvW.

Mesmer’s main source of dmg is obviously condi and shatters. Their damage would barely change if the power damage was nerfed. Saying power necro is chosen more than condi isn’t true, I bet if you went in to a ranked match you would see most necros are condi. Also, yes warrior has 2 viable builds, that’s why I said that they were either even or better with its power builds. Also, condi guard can be way better than power if you know what you’re doing. Same thing with condi engi, it’s more of a gimmick, but could work in ranked, so it’s viable. I haven’t played condi rev a lot, but I’ve seen a lot of cases where I see condi revs destroying every other build.

Mesmer has a very reasonable non-condi dmg output. I have played 4k matches on necro so on that subject I know what I am talking about. Maybe you are on American servers, the case there might be different. Burn guard is only viable in lower tiers of PvP, thats not my definition of ’’viable’’. In higher PvP tiers it only counters Druid, and then thats it. If you know that the enemy team has a burn guard, they just get melted easily. Condi engi is just to laugh at. Condi rev the same.

I haven’t played GW1, but I always hear that GW1 PvP was better. And the very reason why is probably what you say here. Why doesn’t Anet take another look at GW1 and extract from that game what we need here?

Thanks for your response. I know you tend to stream quite often, which is good. But I don’t think that the information you spread there will reach Anet. The chance that they read forums is larger than the chance that they watch or re-watch a stream. Also, written information is permanent, easier to look up and easier to respond to. But yeah I noticed you on the forums so that is great, but a lot of other good players are absent I think.

HeadCrowned.6834

As the outflow of GW2 pvp players and GW2 players in general continues to grow, it is necessary that some changes will happen in attempt to get out of this negative spiral. I have seen a fair share of games, but in my personal preference only few games have the same potential in the basics as GW2. I played the game since launch, and after I saw many many friends leaving the game, even I started doubting to do the same. How come? What are the issues?

1. I am a PvP player. I like competitiveness. On the opposite of PvE, where every map, quest or dungeon keeps te same, a PvP match is always different from the others. Ofcourse there are a lot of fanatic PvE players, but the fanatic PvP players have the benefit that they advertise the game as well to the world outside. To people that are not familiar with the game. Think of streams, tournaments and live events. For this reason, it is surprising that Anet invests such a little amount of resources into PvP. It is no wonder that Overwatch became popular so quickly: it is a PvP-only game. There aren’t THAT many competitive MMORPG’s out there, so Anet shouldn’t be chanceless at all.

2. The lack of communication of the Anet Team for PvP purposes is quite astonishing. Nothing is explained. Very little presence on the forums. No clarification of updates, vision of the future, etc. A while ago, a topic was opened by a dev on the PvP forums on the possible update on PvP sigils, and to receive feedback from the players on the suggested updates. I thought ‘’oke, that is finally a good step’’. However, still nothing has happened with it, it takes waaaaaay to long. Meanwhile, a lot of updates for PvE were released, with new maps, and so on. Updating the PvP sigils costs such a low amount of time compared to creating and releasing new maps. Then why does it take so long?

3. Maybe it is just me, but I don’t notice a lot of pro players on the forums. They should be able to give a more convincing voice on the forums. I don’t know whether they already tried or not, but still. I also know that many of them left the game, especially since last season. But there is still a bunch of them present here. They are generally better capable of analyzing on which aspects the game can improve, and will be heard more quickly by devs I would suppose.

4. The word ’’balance’’ is being taken out of proportion. ’’Balance’’ grew out to be that almost all classes can do the same now. It makes PvP uninteresting and it lacks variety/surprise. Adaptation on enemies should happen during a game, not before the game starts. In my opinion, we don’t need buffs to update weapon skills, utilities and traits, but we need nerfs across the board. It will make things less random, easier to watch, and more comprehensive for new players. Also, it would not necessarily reduce the skill level of the game. Bring vanilla trait lines in line with HoT traitlines, so you can keep new players (that play the free version of the game) interested in playing.

5. Make the off-season period shorter. I mean, come on. I told a friend I only play PvP. He said: ‘’what are you doing in off-season then? lol’‘. There is not much wrong with a short off-season period, but this is way too long. Again a factor that doesn’t work as an incentive to keep playing for many players.

Summarized:
1. A good PvP section is a good advertisement for the game.
2. More communication from Anet on vision, updates and current problems.
3. To the experienced/pro players: don’t stop with letting your voice being heard.
4. Rethink what balance means, and which aspects of it can contribute to better gameplay.
5. Reduce the lenght of off-season periods.

A more accurate rank system

in PvP

Posted by: HeadCrowned.6834

HeadCrowned.6834

The problem I experience is that this system is fluctuating too much. At one point in time you are top 100, then you lose 3 matches in a row and you can be nearly out of the leaderboards. In this way, the leaderboard does not accurately reflect someones skill level, which is actually the whole point of a leaderboard. Besides, get rid of DuoQ.

Open to suggestions?

in Ranger

Posted by: HeadCrowned.6834

HeadCrowned.6834

For regular PvP (conquest), a power build is preferred over a condi build. I like condi builds to play with on ranger, but they are not viable if you play ranked or if want to become a better ranger. I made one truly effective condi build on ranger for pvp once, focused on burning, but since some nerfs on for example CA it is not viable anymore. I tried a lot of condi builds, but you have too give up too much in exchange for some decent condi pressure. If you want more details, just let me know.

Stomping has increased reward over cleave?

in PvP

Posted by: HeadCrowned.6834

HeadCrowned.6834

It gives the same amount of points, but it depends on the situation whether its better to cleave or to stomp. If the downed player is going to get rezzed anyway, just cleave to delay it. If you are a necro and your teammate is a druid or ele for example, then you should cleave and let the druid or ele stomp. Always decide which profession is better at cleaving (good damage and AoE) and which one at stomping (access to stability). You can even decide to lure the enemy team into rezzing, so that you can cleave down multiple of them.

What? As a warrior you have at least three top builds, as a Mesmer you have at least two, as a guardian there are two builds, same goes for necro (may be even three). Haven’t tried ranger this season. But.. that’s more than one build per class.

Please think before agreeing with crazy suggestions, ty!

I wouldn’t mind the return of some amulets, but definitely not all of them by a long shot.

Merc was introduced when a lot of other decent amulets already were removed. I doubt it will be that powerful again when older amulets (such as settlers and soldiers) will be introduced again. I’d rather have them put every amulet back than doing nothing. We have so many amulets that are totally useless right now, it is pretty hysterical and illustrative for the lack of vision in the PvP team. Adding some amulets is step 1, nerfing a lot of traits/utilities to reduce the OPness of certain amulets would be step 2. Build diversity is not a myth, it has been made a myth by Anet.

Yeah, I kinda agree. PvP always seemed to be ‘’the forgotten child’‘. This might be the opportunity to change that. If Anet considers PvP to be a lost cause, then indicate that to your players (ofc they won’t), so they can go to another game, like a lot of PvP-players already did. Every quarter of the year one pathetic ’’balance’’ update is completely useless. Put more effort and resources in the game mode that will most likely attract new players if that game mode is good.

Nothing about elite specs is forgiving when you are fighting other elite specs.

- HoT diminished build diversity

The build was completely broken from hotjoin to pro league, your arguement is invalid.

If you memorized a simple rotation you couldn’t be killed.

Yea because counters didn’t exists back then…oh they did…but ok people on forums always prefer to be countered and post about it then just rotate.

Everything can be ’’countered’’, but reaaaaally specific counter builds are not played as they tend to be (very) weak versus all other professions except the one or two that they counter. Besides, the Cele amulet was basically used on all professions as it contained more total stats than the other amulets. Ele was just the profession that benefitted from it the most.
