I never managed to find an axe build that was more effective than a dagger build. The small range increase compared to the dagger just isn’t enough to compensate. It would need the same range as a mesmer GS for example.

I played many matches as a necro in PvP. Ofcourse you will get better when you play it more often in PvP, but yes, the necro has some problems. The largest problem I feel is the fact that you can be focused down very easily if you play against decent organized teams. If your team does not care about you so much, it can be hard to be useful is teamfights. Since a necro overall has very limited escaping possibilities, it is important to decide properly in which fights you can participate and in which fights you can not.

Also, I hope that after the expansion HoT we will have some more effective possible builds. The amount of misplaced (master)traits is limiting our possibilities atm in my opinion, but this might get better. I never changed my necro for another class, but ye, I can get it when they frustrate people who try it.

I would never take the warhorn over the offhand dagger on a condi build, and the OP has a valid point imo. Although it should not be swapped with Greater marks, since staff is nearly used on every build, which is the reason that this would cause just the same problems for Greater marks as the current problems with banshees wail.

Your topic title does not synergize at all with your statements. WvW =/= Game; necro’s lack a lot in spvp as well as in pve.

Hi there,

Since a few days I am experiencing very annoying lag spikes in-game. My internet is fine and stable, and its not a hardware issue I believe, since Im using the same stuff for a long time and the problems just appeared recently. I only play in heart of the mists and PvP maps. The lag spikes make the game unplayable for me, as they can take a fairly long time to suddenly resolve. Mostly I have like 4 or 5 per match. Sometimes I dc after a spike, but often I am not. Anyone has an idea to fix this? Thank you.

Although Im only playing PvP, I can imagine that PvE is the much stronger part of the game. People barely try PvP because theyre stuck in the PvE content perhaps. Its quite often happening that Im matched up in PvP against and with the same people a few matches in a row. I also think that metabuilds have an influence on PvP that is too high. Creativity, unexpected things and differentiation are pretty seldom in matches I watch. I mean, who wants to see a DD ele vs DD ele duel?

Mesmer is indeed the worst , but don’t underestimate the vapor form of the elementalist. Being able to move in downstate to a location where you can get rezzed easier is quite valuable.

PvP players don’t need much but what would be nice to see is skill, rune and sigil unlocks coming from the rewards cause that is what we use. Besides that, items we can use to make gear for WvW so that we can take our pvping there would help us branch out.

Salvageable exotic trash might be nice for us to get materials for ascended.

As long as this is not the solution brought forward by Anet, I agree with the OP. I don’t want to have more skills/sigils/runes than any other PvP player. The best about GW2 PvP is the equal chances each team has at the start of the match. We don’t need a Call of Duty like unlock process.

And indeed all the rewards you get is basically trash, Anet should look into this.

You shouldn’t waste ur wurm that often on stomping actually, but I like it that youre trying to find builds in which you use the focus instead of dagger or warhorn offhand.

Well, Medi-Guard burst is not really an issue because it takes time to apply the burst and it can be countered with a stunbreak. It’s not INSTANT damage. Plus DPS-medi Guard defense is comically weak, at least in the case of a glass-cannon Thief, you have stealth/Shortbow/Shadow Step to gtfo if things go bad; a DPS Guard just has to take it to the face, so imo Guards aren’t really a “problem.”

RE: the OP, yeah Power-Claw Necros are pretty obnoxious, but they are susceptible to Boon Strip. If you don’t happen to HAVE Boon Strip, well then I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Yeh, Guardians do not have blocks or invulns. You insane?

The only profession I play is necro actually, because I am used to it. The thing is, it is hard to make them shine in soloQ. I always hope I do not have other necro’s in my team, as it always seems to be the easiest target to go for. In team fights we get so easily ganked because we have no invulns, blocks, limited escape abilities and stunbreaks. In 1vs1 we can do fine, but not if it comes to node defending. We can have a decent damage output with power builds, but the mesmer for example can do that better. Condi’s are our strong point, but condimancers need a team.

I hope that the specializations will increase the overall build diversity, so that the necro can get a more significant role in pvp.

Thief is obviously harder to escape from when your health is low. Ranger depends entirely on where you are and what build the Ranger is running. Many classes can escape from Ranger focus fire just by using one port/blink (for example in Khylo, by porting to a different level of the clocktower, or on Niflhel by porting to a ledge and moving out of line of sight.

Sure, if you are standing out in the open next to a longbow Ranger with 2k health left, the chances of you getting away aren’t very high. But then again, I’m not sure why it would be fair to be able to escape from that situation to begin with.

You’re indeed partly right, but the rangers can do much more damage from a long range, and I found that sometimes harder to mitigate than a thief’s damage when my health was low. I talk about LB rangers ofc. Maybe only on Kyhlo a thief is much more dangerous, but especially on Legacy they’re at least equal.

I felt that condi necro might be a bit stronger but it requires a better (communicative) team to shine in. Power necro might be a bit better/more straightforward if you want to pvp by your own.

It’s just a sad and brainless build, but not the fault of the player but of the game. The problem is the players that try to 1v1 them in an on-point fight.

Since I pretty much only played SoloQ in the past I have a little more biased view, but the fact that TeamQ and SoloQ got merged is pretty bad. Pugs will almost certainly win.

Most players use a power build (dagger)in PvE because of the max condi limit that can be applied. In PvP a condi build with scepter/dagger + staff is the most common.

In my opinion Epidemic is not so useful in PvP due to many 3-point playstyles and so pretty often a 1vs1. You will need that utility spot for other, more important things than Epidemic I think. Therefore I never used SoS + Epidemic in PvP.

Either Ele or Engi. Because they are basically good at anything; they can roam, have high mobility, decent sustain en can defend a node, while still having a nice damage output.

Changed wurm for spectral wall and changed spectral walk for spectral armor.
Change adept Soul Reaping trait to spectral mastery, and youre done.

The map is broken, that is why so less people vote for it. People voting for it just want to abuse their noob builds, scorpion wire thiefs in front. Maps should try to increase the amount of different buids that might work, not decrease.

I give other runes a chance, but not rune of the afflicted. You want to avoid going down, and that rune won’t really save you. Also the poison duration bonus is useless, scepter 1 + staff 3 already gives them pretty much perma poison.
I’d rather try builds with rune of the undead for example as a condi necro. But still I think nightmare would be the best.

I think ranger might be good. Necro is harder I think, because you have many skills that require targeting (Marks, scepter 2, etc). A ranger on low tier spvp can attack opponents from a great distance, so movement is in that case less necessary than for a thief for example.

I have a preference for teams that do not roll 2 of the same professions, so I was more in favour of TCG. However you can’t call the win of Abjured ’’undeserved’’ or anything like that.

So I watched the China v NA tourney and the nerf is clearly about summoning minions before the match starts to build up DS…. and you can’t do it any more.

As someone who played power necro in spvp and tpvp, i can say that I never once did this…. and I welcome its change.

You build up DS insanely fast with Axe 2 or dagger autos anyway.

If players were somehow relying on this to gain an advantage, it is a minor one and good players will get along just fine without it.

Necro’s were able to use some utility skills to build up some Life force before the match started (such as using minions, and then replacing the minions with your wanted utilities before countdown reached 0). Now, this is not possible anymore and we have to start with 0% LF. For a condi necro especially this is a pretty big nerf.

better watch yourself. ANets solution to this will be to make life force decay overtime when out of combat so a necro always starts at 0 life force.

This exactly… Worm is the one and only tool to get out of combat and get in a suitable position…

First of all, there is no such thing as enough cleansing. So an argument like “having a dagger means you don’t need WoP” is complete nonsense.
Secondly, lackluster? How about a reliable source of vigor and aegis, and not just for you but your allies as well. Yes, there is a very short period of time during knock backs when you can’t cast it, this has never been an issue for me though. Then again, if you see the knockback coming you can use the stability to avoid the stun(s) entirely.
Also, it’s a dark field, and dark fields are boss.

Remind me, what does the wurm do again? Oh yeah, nothing, just sitting somewhere in a hidden corner.

Yes I used WoP and as a CONDI necro it is not useful in PvP. Gl using it though. Dagger #4, staff #4 and healing skill (which is even more effective when you have more condis) are enough condi cleanses to use that utility spot for another utility that is much more useful. If you consider wurm useless you should also consider playing another profession.

The only thing I would change is carrion instead of rabid.

If you use staff + offhand dagger you got 2 condi transfers, which are much more useful as a condi necro than a Well of Power (which is a utility slot also) condiflip. The only thing WoP has is the stunbreaker, but you then better use Spectral Armor instead, or wurm.

No cuz it saves you an utility slot + staff is essential as a condi necro. And I forgot your healing skill is a condi cure as well. Simply no need for WoP in PvP, it is a waste. If you were a power necro it would be different.

well nice vid mate, but not to be flaming: your opponents were really bad (I mean comon, signet warriors?). Further more I don’t really agree with some aspects of your build, like warhorn + spectral walk is a waste of an utility slot. Better replace warhorn for dagger so you won’t need WoP (+transfer>condiflip). Corrupt boon is a must have as a condi necro in my opinion. But keep the good work up
