Okay, ya, some of these aren’t making to release.

Live Fast giving 3s of quickness with every beast skill when some have less than 10s cooldown? Swoop is a 1200 leap on a 10s cooldown. Nevermind the quickness on dagger 3.

Unstoppable union breaking stun and giving 4s of unblockable attacks every 10 seconds?

Getting “no cooldown ancient seeds” flashbacks here.

These sound way too good to last long at all in pvp.

Have you seen what other specs are getting?

Don’t forget it’s classic Anet behavior to make things in expansions OP to give people yet another reason to buy them. It’s been like this since GW1, and I don’t think they will change that.

As ususal, expect heavy nerfs to anything you see, somethings prior to release, but most of them after a couple of days/weeks/months.
What’s quite annoying though, is the very long time it takes them to go back to something they overnerfed, like Lingering Light.

I kinda think it’s better for them to overtune the spec initially, so incremental nerfs can be used to bring it in line. At least you don’t end up with something completely disappointing.

Fresh Reinforcement made me wonder do is it totaly new trait in soulbeast line or is it added effect on Fortifying Bond.

New trait, but being able to run Fortifying Bond and then copy the boons over when entering beastmode is exactly what we needed.

Would have been ideal to do the opposite as well, copy your boons to the pet when you exit beastmode. Fortifying Bond won’t do that as it only copies newly applied boons, not the current ones.

“Whenever you enter Beastmode, your pets boons are copied to you. Whenever you exit Beastmode, your boons are copied to your pet.”

A/A is a weird set that has not seen much play previously, but I think with the latest changes it can be pretty good. Hybrid stats are needed for A/A to be decent. A new stat set coming with PoF, Greiver, may be BiS or Viper may remain. It will depend on the length of the fight.

LB or Staff is not a good pairing though, imo, SB would be. To take advantage of the Axe OH you will need a fire field to whirl finish, so Torch OH in the other set, flame trap or Fire Wyvern. Look at ferocity stacking, we can get 930 with Vicious Quarry, Honed Axes, Sigil of Cruelty and SotW, thats 62% more damage on crit. Run the Bowl of Cactus Fruit Salad food to fuel your condis and charge AF through lifesteal, as well as a Sigil of Water on MH axe. Maybe something like this.

I would hang out for PoF to launch though, so we can see which set will work for hybrid better, Greiver or Viper. With the amount of ferocity we can stack, I’m betting on Viper for raiding and Greiver for everything else.

Rangers are not hunters roaming the woods. The entire thematic behind the design of the Ranger at the outset was to create a class that rejected the use of mechanical weapons and technology and went further into the forest to develop their Nature Magic skills. Hammer fits as it is a martial weapon.

An Iron Legion ranger has dropped his compound bow when heard that. Well, it’s not necessary compound bow beacause even primitive bow made of a stick and a lace is pretty mechanical. Also, a sword or an axe, while being really simple weapon in a case of operation way, is usually made with some complex metal casting technology. Well, technology is about exploiting nature. A bow string and a powder both based on physics. Technology may be primitive but it is still technology, lower or higher level. What level of technology is appropriate for a ranger? Can you draw the border?

And I think there is more in ranger than just druid.

A bow provides mechanical advantage, sure, but it is not mechanical. When referring to mechanical, I mean wheels, gears, bearings, complex moving parts etc, not a simple spring like a bow. Metal casting is not complex, humans were doing it for thousands of years before the invention of gun powder. If technology is about exploiting nature, then that is more of a reason for Rangers to reject its use. You draw the border at a firing mechanism and gunpowder or complex moving parts.

Look, I didn’t make this stuff up, it’s not my opinion, it’s ANet’s stated design for Ranger.

Im trying to build something that would bemefit from this trait. But when i try to use it it seems to be not working. When my pet cast there is no heal at all. Got any video of usage?

It doesn’t get used much so it have have been broken in the last patch and nobody noticed.

LOL as if. It’s good, for sure, but come on.

15s of straight damage immunity and 1200 range disengage + second heal + resist isn’t strong enough for you?

Might not be amazing on a tank build due to a lack of damage but that kind of utility on berserker longbow or hard damage condi is absolutely insane.

Pets are too small

I understand what you are saying, but Norn and Charr characters are already doing that, and it isn’t much of a problem.
It’s not that all of our pet must be bigger. I can live with birds and spiders being the size they are now, but cats and bears and wolves should be at least size of veteran mobs.
As it is, they are all same size, just different skins, except birds.

They could scale them up a bit, but making them veteran size will never happen.

Here is your build.

Personally I think you’ve focused too much on damage and have no defense or condition removal. If you want it to be successful as you progress up the tiers, you’ll need more. But I reckon it would be pretty fun bursting people as is, for a while.

If you want more interrupts, you can run OH Axe for the pull and different pets like Smokescale (knockdown) & Wolf (Knockdown and Fear), though they will not trigger MoC for you. Rune of Surging can get quite a few interrupts as well and would suit.

Oh axe might be good if the BM swoop skill from birds is an actual movement skill that either moves us like greatsword swoop or blinks us.

If we don’t get that then probably not. The channel on the skill is just too long for the damage if the person can see you coming.

People will also quickly learn to expect this and it will stop being effective against good players the same way using judges and trap bombing people did.

While it probably will not see sPvP use, it’s perfectly viable and works well in WvW and in PvE it will be great with SoulB.

The druid was an incredibly well designed spec. It improved our skirmishing and overall survivability on offensive builds, and added a very mechanically fun support playstyle. I had a blast with a druid.

Irenio seems to be doing a fantastic job with the Soulbeast as well. It’s addressing a lot of our weakness, some of which are: lack of frontloaded damage, fragile & clumsy pets, poor stability and sustain, and group utility (other than healing). I super stoked for the SB.

You can argue that they really kittened up on the CORE ranger. Arguably, the core LB builds have gotten really good over time, and especially since the last patch. But most other core ranger builds are garbage. They’ve addressed most of our terrible traits, but a few of the weapons are quite weak with the core spec. They will, however, likely be very strong on the Soulbeast. For example, OH axe and GS will play great.

So in conclusion, I’m a huge fan of Irenio. I think he’s done one hell of a job pulling this prof out of the gutter with the druid, new pets, and trait reworks. The SB looks very promising so far.

I agree. We always had build diversity, but most were pretty meh, now we have several very strong options and more to come with the SoulB which just looks great so far.

There are a couple of choices that I personally would not have made with regards to skills/traits but I’m just an armchair expert like the rest of us.

LB is now very strong as a Ranged DPS option and our condi build is core, although with the changes to Companion’s Might and Expertise Training, that may be different now. We shall see.

GS Damage VS Sword

Sword is still better dps. The weapon itself not so much but you still get a ton of damage from axe 4 and 5.

Running zepher’s speed with GS probably helps balance things out a bit but then you’d want to run double cat’s and don’t get to take advantage of perma fury from tiger or the cc from the wyvern.

It’s a solid pvp weapon but still outclassed by sword which will be outclassed by dagger/torch.

Dagger/Axe may be right up there too, since you can whirl finish your bonfire field with it after swap. And Axe/Axe could be too with hybrid stats and ferocity stacking (A/T & A/A).

For sure rangers, in most of PvE area, are now a good choice. Just don’t go WvW, sPvP, raids and fractals.

I was going to say “good joke”, but it’s not really.

Ranger is one of the strongest roamers and small scalers, last ESL had a ranger in the 2nd team and we just had that build buffed last patch, raid healers are nearly always druids, CondiRanger is top tier DPS choice and you can combine it with off-healing and fractals are doable with anything just like the rest of PvE.

I love the idea of unid gear, makes for easy inv management. But, only if they group exotics as a separate unid item, I don’t care about rares but exotics drop rarely enough that they deserve an unid trophy item of their own.

+1 to all of these. Would be nice if we can get most of those. I could see some easy stuff on their F2 skills.

Vulture inflicts torment, Hyena has a crippling howl with normal power stats (can’t be stressed enough), Fire Stalker has a pounce that inflicts burning, and the Sand Shark burrows into the ground then leaps – launching foes into the air.

All that stuff would be great.

Give the Croc a roll like the arrowheads that causes knockdown hehehe!

I just found veteran send lion mob in expansion map. It looks like double the size of pet send lion. It would be proper size for pets too.

Well, Rangers tame juveniles, so they are likely to be smaller, but I get what you are saying, they should grow somewhat to match the size of your character, proportionally.

The problem with just upping damage on the base spec is that there would be nothing to stop people from running it with a defensive Elite spec and having the best of both worlds. Having a separate Elite spec for ranged dps makes balancing things easier.

You mean like how we take ranged DPS with LB already and combine it with Druid for lots of sustain? Or how we will take core defensive traits to go with Soulbeast offense and additional sustain so we can be very tanky and still dish out damage?

You can add more dps to core as long as it is spread out over 3 lines so that you can’t take all the DPS traits and an eSpec.

That’s because there isn’t one. Bows already cover everything necessary from range.

They could always add with different conditions as damage or stealth options, or add a different weapons altogether. The weapon didn’t really matter, what would be important is having an Elite spec focusing on boosting the potential of the base classes ranged dps.

But you do not need an eSpec to do that, we already have it, if they wanted to give us more ranged DPS, they can adjust the LB skills and power scaling.

We already have Melee condi and power, ranged condi and power with control on both, Healing and sustain and good support options to go with any of these. Soulbeast is going to be more melee hybrid with both good control and support options rolled into one.

What we are lacking is AoE damage and control.

…Opens up room for a lot of mind-games though. Imagine following a single guy in WvW and just marking him for minutes on minutes, the guy will be a mental wreck at the end of his session. The paranoia will be at an all-time high when the Expansion hits.

Just trait up for perma stealth with like traps/trapper runes and deceptions or w/e and then go mark some random roamer and follow him around for a while haha.

If the feline bite has no cast time, then it could be used as part of a burst, but otherwise its pretty bad.

I actually really like the devourer dodge, it’s a short distance, doesn’t use endurance and 3/4s every 15 is nice, I used to use the Charr racial “Hidden Pistol” a lot before because it was almost the same, but used a utility slot, this is nice.

If the projectile speed is fast enough, projectiles are fine and allow for counter plays.

I don’t think we need a long range DPS spec, we have LB for that and with the core trait changes it is very good too. I very much doubt Ranger will ever get any form of firearm.

Druid is heal/sustain which can be combined with core for decent damage as well and lots more support options.

Soulbeast is a brawler type I’m thinking with lots of options for damage mitigation and DPS with some support in the form of stance sharing and some burst healing.

Control is (will be, hopefully) straight out of GW1, the bunny thumper. A ranger with a hammer that interacts with pets, check out the skill bar from GW1, with a few tweeks we could have almost the same bar for GW2 on hammer and it would be magnificent.

TLDR; Core is the long range DPS spec so it will remain in play.

With consumable nerf, it cut my boon buff to 34, but also took my crit chance to 43, I lost 3 might compounded(WHaO) with change to beastmastery gm change to lesser zephyr.

If you find you are not doing enough damage, you could swap out some of your gear for something a bit tankier and take MM for even more might stacking and damage.

And i did an another mistake : the 1, 1/2 on the tool tip is the channel activation time so it’s 3 pulsing hits during 1, 1/2 sec, so yes the first hit is almost instant i would say.

Well, it will combine nicely with Companion’s Might and Sharpened Edges in any case.

For sPvP I’d go something more like this, then adjust it to suit yourself. Like go Menders Amulet if you are getting gibbed etc.

One I put on the other thread;
Power is perfectly viable for fractals and a Zerker Druid will fill that off-healing role as well as being able to buff your group with Frost/SunSpirits, Spotter and GotL. You just swap out bow for GS if you want pure melee. Although the bow is still used at melee range.

I’d just like to see some tuning on the current skills;

Stalkers Strike gets 500 range and ammo mechanic with a 2 charge.

Crippling Talon gets Torment for the pet on next 3 attacks, longer cripple and ammo mechanic with a 2 charge.

Also the tooltip is wrong. The puslsing damaging roar deals 35 to 40 % at least less damage all the time whether the damage is increased / buffed or not. With 15 stacks of mights (warhorn + WaO), for exemple, you can’t expect more than 3 × 1450 whereas the tooltip says 3 × 2472 etc. So it can’t do critical hits for sure.

When a tooltip says 3x 2472, that’s three strikes totaling 2472, not three strikes of 2472.

Is there any delay from pressing F2 to the application of the 1st blind?

ie any point using GFtE with Sand Lion?

It’s 3 puslsing damaging roars with something like a 1/2 sec interval, each hit applies one stack of blind (it means that the mob can left the 300 range after the first hit, so it will only be 1 hit + 1 blind). The fisrt pulse begin at the end of the activation time, 1 1/2 sec.

I think GFtE applies immediately upon using F2 so that is actually pretty cool, 4 applications of blind in 3s could be pretty handy. We shall see.

If you have the Living Story maps, you can get whatever trinkets you need pretty easily, I found Bloodstone Fen the easiest to farm for them.

Power is perfectly viable for fractals and a Zerker Druid will fill that off-healing role as well as being able to buff your group with Frost/SunSpirits, Spotter and GotL.

Thank you. Would a learning raid group or pug take a power druid or would they only take either a full healing build or condi build?

It really depends on the people in that group. I think if you are interested in raiding you should find yourself a guild that does them and explain that you don’t have the gear yet to do it properly and that you need to learn the mechanics and fights.

That said, if you do decide to go heal Druid, you can get Magi gear pretty easy and cheap, exotic is perfectly fine if you are healing. If you have not tried healing Druid yet, give it a go, you may like it.

1.) So If we meld with the pet, you gain access to 2 skills right? What if the pet uses those skills prior to Melding, won’t they be on CD? or how bout vice versa?

2.) Rather off topic, is the leap from the new dagger skill an evade? I think its very similar to the engie hammer skill but not exactly sure.

1) I really hope not, since they are not really controllable for us when not melded and having them on CD will make beastmode far less enticing, since you get no benefit other than the stat increase which will not make up for the loss of the pet assuming it is attacking.

2) It would be nice to have an evade on the dagger. I hope it is a leap finisher too.

Did anyone else notice it is the same animation pounce on sword used to have? You used to be able to do the “2pounce” with sword which was a double leap exactly like the dagger has except that Dagger #3 is a gap closer with no pre-requisite.

Based on the videos I watched, I think it is a leap finisher. Double even. Someone correct me if im wrong.

It appears like this to me, hoping it is the case. Sweet sweet leap finishers!

Smoke field – stealth
Fire Wyvern/Torch/flame trap – fire aura
Electric Wyvern Lightning field – daze (Mark of Clarity)
Healing Spring leaps – heals
Spider/Vipers Nest – Weakness

I’m really looking forward to being able to have a hybrid build and whirl finish the fire fields with OH axe too. Axe/Axe would become a pretty ludicrous build as well, up to 212% crit damage with viper gear and traits + SotW plus tons of might stacking, 2k condi damage and then Whirling Defense inside the Torch Firefield…

Taking a look at some of the interactions, we will have some great combos for interrupting and CC too.

So in the trial version there is a ecto gambling merchant. If you gamble, you win rate is high off the chart. I think they purposely increase the chance of wining to get people to gamble. Then you go gamble for real, your luck will take a completely turn!

In trail: Earn 3k of gold and never really lost any in 10 mins.

In reality: Lost 2k of gold, and its a constant lose streak in 10 mins.

They pull a dirty trick to get people to ecto gamble.

So please people who never gamble, let this be a warning for you. Dont ecto gamble!!

Trutichup on YT who posts lots of great gambling and opening research like this posted a video of him losing 9000G and 22,500 ectos with this vendor in the trial demo. You can take your tinfoil hat off now

I was typing up a response of how I wasn’t sure how Trout would spawn in a desert either, since they like colder temperatures, then went off on a tangent of how it could be cold spring water coming up from below or melt water from the mountains nearby, and the optimal temperature range for trout growth, spawning and activity is between 10–20?C…

But is that even a body of freshwater?

id personally suggest perhaps changing the name to “bandit” like any other map in the entire game, or just go ahead and change those special skills to “chicken” “watermelon” and “child support”…

I’m going to go out on a limb here and assume that you believe ANet is being rascist because they have a mob that is called a Troublemaker and it has black skin.

Ask yourself this;
1. How many NPCs have black skin in PoF by comparison to the core game?
2. Is it possible that someone with black skin can be a Troublemaker within the game?
3. Would it not be even more rascist to only have white skinned Troublemakers?
4. Why do you not feel like a rascist yourself for even noticing the difference and making a point about it? Do you not also think that making reference to stereotypically racist things associated with african/americans (ie, the watermelon etc) is somewhat rascist too?

Fundamentally, this is the thing, you have seen this NPC and think it is somehow special or should be treated differently because of the color of it’s skin, that is the basis of racism.

I wonder why ANet didn’t forsee this economic crash after two years of design and testing.

Maybe it’s because they did forsee and tested it and there’s no incoming economic crash.

Or they are doing it specifically to increase the supply of these materials. Either way, I agree.

Lower cost materials is better for 99% of the community. People complaining about them coming down in price is like the billionaires complaining about their income taxes being raised.

Ya, I thought it was clear they changed F2 abilities to beast abilities because they had the soulbeast in mind, same reason they removed the passive stats buffs. It’s a cute addition but not a game changer as most of the F2 traits got ICD on them anyway, so i cant spam F1 to F3 in beast mode for a triple effect.

They want to make Beastmaster weaker and make sure people drop it and use Soulbeast at launch.

Inb4 Soulbaests gives high bonus stat to pets too.

This is silly logic and not real.

Making pets stronger for a Soulbeast makes the beastmode redundant.

Come on mate enough with “the sky is falling because ANet hates Rangers and is out to get us and just force us to buy the xpac” stuff.

I’m just trying to find a valid reasoning for them to nerf BM trait, a trait which emphasize on pet more than anything, because the trait we’re getting in expansion is the one that’d get rid of it.

And I didn’t say you said that ranger is not viable.

The reasoning is that it just made their job of balancing the Soulbeast easier to remove those parts of the traits. The +300 Toughness and +450 Healing Power, the healing power was useful only when you ran the Ferny with lower than 450 healing yourself and the toughness was only really useful in PvP where the trait is really only useful, not that it is all that useful anyway, next to the other choices in the line. It is a shame they could not just work around them, though.

It would be nice if they reduced the CD now or have some other interaction with weakness as Wondrouswall suggested. I wonder if they could make the CD of the trait halve if you hit a weakened foe.
