Just make Fortifying Bond baseline and leave the WH as is. If there are 6 + people there, it doesn’t matter that you’re getting 6 less might, the person is going to die regardless.

…Also, people really haven’t looked at the dagger close enough. The power scaling on dagger skills is the same as sword, sword chain is same duration as full chain of dagger.
Dagger is a very nice hybrid weapon, applying vul, bleed and poison, aswell as having the same power scaling as our strongest power main hand we have access to atm (Sword).

The power scaling on the Dagger is nowhere near the Sword; On the sword, Slash and Crippling Thrust scale at 0.7 and Precision Swipe scales at 0.8, while on the Dagger you have Groundwork Gouge, Leading Swipe and Serpent Stab all with a 0.4 scale and Deadly Delivery is just 0.5.

Let’s do the math for a power build, no precision or crits.

Sword – 1050*2550 * 0.7 / 2500 (armor) * 2 + 1050*2550 * 0.8 / 2500 = 2356 for the whole chain.

Dagger – 981*2550 * 0.4 / 2500 * 3 + 981*2550 * 0.5 / 2500 = 1701 for the whole chain.

Ok, so it’s 28% less power damage, what about adding condi damage? Let’s use Viper gear instead.

Sword – 1050*2057 * 0.7 / 2500 (armor) * 2 + 1050*2057 * 0.8 / 2500 = 1900 for the whole chain.

Dagger – 981*2057 * 0.4 / 2500 * 3 + 981*2057 * 0.5 / 2500 = 1372 for the whole chain.

Now the condis – 6s Poison, 6s Bleed * 1.42 = 8.52 ticks per bleed and poison. Bleed damage = 93 per tick, Poison = 105. Total condi damage = 1772.16

Dagger total in Vipers = 3144.16

Now we take crits into account and the sword in zerker with the dagger in viper. I’ll use the chain x 100 for ease of calculation.

Sword – 1050*2550 * 0.7 / 2500 (armor) * 2 + 1050*2550 * 0.8 / 2500 = 2356 for the whole chain.
50% crit chance.
220% crit damage.
50 AA chains = 117800
50 AA chains @ 220% crit = 259160
Total = 376,960

Dagger – Dagger – 981*2057 * 0.4 / 2500 * 3 + 981*2057 * 0.5 / 2500 = 1372 for the whole chain.
35% crit chance
150% crit damage
65 AA chains = 89180
35 AA chains @ 150% crit = 72030
100 AA chains worth of condi = 177216 (That’s going to take 10+ minutes to deal it’s damage)
Total = 338,426.

So, it’s only about 12% better with sword/berzerker over dagger/viper but the more ferocity you add the better the sword will become due to higher crit chance and base values. SO when you add in traits like Vicious Quarry, Honed Axes and SotW, sword starts looking very much better.

Although, if you drop the Expertise and run the grievers set, the damage will be worse off for the dagger as you will be dropping 42% of the condi damage away for 42% more critical damage, keep in mind the lower crit chance though. Although, for most things I doubt it will be an issue, if dagger gets a few tweaks then it may be fun to play at least and while a hybrid may not be top DPS, it may be enjoyable.

I may actually calculate the damage of the grievers set with a hybrid dagger build later on.

Identified all drops I received during the stress test. The majority were blue (item value 99 copper), some were green (value from 1 silver to aprox. 1 silver 60 copper) — every single item identified was in itself a negative impact on the wallet. Salvaging items that yielded Mithril Ore, loss of money. Salvaging items that had some profit tied to the material, very low profits. The system is horrible with the cost attached to it. Loot is not rewarding at all in Path of Fire with this being how things are, you lose money from getting loot. I hate it.

Seriously, just unlock everything as it comes, try it out, learn it’s mechanics and usefulness. There isn’t a great deal during levelling to 80 that you need anything specific for. Don’t look at lvl 80 as the goal, unlocking and learning all the skills is the goal here.

Also, don’t forget to get all your pets as you move to the different maps.

Welcome back.

What role would you like to perform? Ranger can do many in varying degrees of ability. Knowing that will give you an idea of what you want the character to achieve and that will lead you to a build you are comfortable with. You shouldn’t just “follow” a build, you should enjoy it and understand it.

You can pretty much do anything during levelling, just stick to one damage type and the stats to suit, power/precision or condition damage. Unlock everything and play with everything to get an idea of the playstyle you prefer. Axe/Torch is vastly different to Longbow for instance. Once you know how you like to play it, then worry about a build and gear.

You’re intended to do multiple things for a legendary. Saving Badges of Honor from achievement chests is not legendary. .

But chopping wood or buying at Trading Post is?

75% of doing stuff for the legendary ist not legendary.

0% of doing stuff for the legendary is legendary.

Compared to the other massive grind, 8 hours of casual WvW is like a relaxing walk in the park.

Did I miss something or? Ping is absurd.

I can tell you, since using WTFast my ping is still quite high but there is a lot more stability. I connect to the Sydney Server from Central QLD and from there to Texas and it’s loads better. I can actually play WvW and do raids now whereas before it was virtually impossible due to ping.

You are always going to have a higher ping, simply because you are routed through more points to there from here and then there’s the physical distance.

Remember too, that in the last few years, millions more people in OCX got access to decent internet but the undersea connection to the US is still the same as before, it’s got a lot more traffic to deal with and no additional capacity. It’s also privately owned and they can bias whatever traffic they like.

I don’t think anything like that is ever going to happen, people got confused by Boon Duration and Concentration so I can’t see ANet ever making toughness/vitality scale with other abilities or changing their scaling. It would create immense amounts of code work.

Player 1 in Soldiers gear fighting Player 2 in Zerker gear.

Player 1 only does a few % less damage to the Zerker than the Zerker does to the Soldier. So, you then get the additional benefit of the vitality(10k health) on top of that.

Here’s the math, I used Ele staff Fire #1 AA as the example.


Damage calculation = ((weapon damage * Power) * skill coefficient) / targets’ armor

Ele Staff – Soldiers hitting Zerker
Skill 1 damage = (1166 * 2382) x 1.0 / 1967 = 1412
4% crit chance
96 hits = 135552.4 damage
4 crit hits @ 150% damage = 8472
Total over 100 hits = 144024.4

Ele Staff – Zerker hitting Soldiers
Skill 1 damage = (1166 * 2382) x 1.0 / 2927 = 948.9
50% crit chance
50 hits = 47444.7
50 crit hits @ 214% damage = 101532.3
Total over 100 hits = 148977

The best defense is definitely defense, because against someone built for damage, it does almost the same damage and has far more health.

thing is 10k burst healing to each of the 5 ppl is 50k total. Natural armony has 2 seconds CD not 4 my bad.
And it doesn’t override the healing from regen you may provide by other means.

You didn’t miss anything, you just didn’t describe what you were talking about very well. Gotcha now.

The drama is Natural Harmony costs 20 energy, it’s not like you can spam it.

The issue with Rev for WvW is it’s a pain in the aahse to play it well, whereas Druid is a piece of cake.

Edit: for instance, if you want to heal someone, you need to move the tablet to where they will be in 1s due to the delay on Natural Harmony. For a mobility mode like WvW, personally I do not like Ventari at all and feel that Druid offers far better play.

I really, really hope Anet sees the issue with this pet and how BW currently works, it really needs to activate where it lands.

Yeah, Definitively,
if this happen when casting the ability before the shadowstep, this trait will be useless and this will be such a wasted opportunity.

The trait is coded to activate at skill activation which means it will always work this way.

The cheatah will only ever taunt enemies if they are already in range when it’s shadowstep activates.

IE, using the F2 at 1200 range will probably not taunt anything.

If you are in beastmode, though, it activates after the cast time of the skill, so they can change it to be different times.

This could actually be a positive in some instances, imagine your cheetah is fighting somewhere and another enemy player is incoming, you swap target and press F2, the Cheetah taunts the player closest to it, then steps to the other, dragging the player away from you.

with soul beast coming out… I wonder if its even worth it to start collecting this gear. I read somewhere that its pointless to try and min.max healing power and only to use Druid form to get into Avatar Celestial mode?

It depends on the game mode and group you are running with, or whether or not you are even in a a group. You absolutely need healing power for some areas and team compositions and it can be kitten powerful in PvP/WvW, but how much is really dependent on several factors such as personal and group skill and what the build’s role is intended to be and achieve.

Nah they just in the backroom sipping coffee for 2 weeks until the expansion comes out.

I mean, what else do you think they’re doing every day? It’s crunch time for them, we don’t need bullet points of their day to day workings what is being looked at and what isn’t.

The zones are most likely done, the classes are done, at this point they are obviously working on bug fixes and adjustments to classes. Some things probably won’t get fixed before release, just keep submitting bugs and forums posts until it is.

What about a compromise? Account Bound with a level requirement.

Year 1 Booster req. lvl 60
Year 2 Booster req. lvl 50
Year 3 Booster req. lvl 40

Year 6 Booster req. lvl 10

This would give the benefit to those long standing characters as well as put a limit on which characters may use the booster.

Why have a level requirement? Just check to see if the character is 730 days old if it really matters whether or not the toon is eligible for a 2nd year gift. They can even cut and paste the code for doing that from the vendor that replaces the blaster for you if you need another after you deleted or whatever.

I like the idea since, from what I’ve heard, you can salvage without having to identify AND the unidentified gear will stack with itself. This will cut back on the “hurr, I killed 5 things and now my bags are full” problem. I don’t see the big deal.

The unid loot includes ALL loot drops including exotics. You right click, salvage all, and just salvaged a pre-cursor you didn’t know about.

It’s not like the unid trophy is an actual precursor. It’s just a raffle ticket which you can trade in for a chance at one.

Or, if you feel like maybe since you’ve never had a precursor drop yet and have already had literally a million drops, then you can just salvage the trophy for 200% more materials than you would get from blue/green gear.

For gear sets for a DPS Firebrand I’d go the new griever’s stat combo. Burn Guard currently is 40/60 split between power and condi so increasing the power side by having all the power stats would be nice. Expertise is not needed because with balth, smoldering, and the trait you already reach 85%, so maybe 1 or 2 pieces of vipers.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Grievers coming!

That makes no sense to me whatsoever. Being dedicated to a toon is meaningless, being dedicated to your account (and therefore ANet) is far more reward-worthy.

Even if that were the case, and they didn’t want toons younger than 2 years using them, they could just add a line of code for when you try to use it; If character age >=730 days then allow it, if not, then don’t and display a message.

If you want to AoE you need virtues, if you want to max out on a single target, you don’t.

Sinister will be the highest DPS, since you can max burning duration (Balthazar Runes, Superior Sigil of Smoldering, Radiant Fire, Bowl of Fire Meat Chilli) without any expertise at all and there isn’t much access to other conditions anyway.

Nah, we should be able to swap pets without leaving beastmode. That’s a basic thing for the functionality of the ranger.

Entering/leaving beastmode should work as a weapon swap same as it works now for the druid.

That should be the easiest way to make this new spec actually no weird or clunky. It doesn’t matter what whoever think Sbeast is to be camped or not, if they don’t add the pet swapp and mark my words we will end up camping in one pet only as we already can see the players did in the beta.

If anet feels the Beast abilities (F3) are too strong ton be casted twice (a very small pbaoe of 4K around the ranger or healing for 4K + 3 secs resistance it is not if we compare that to any other class) they can share the CD. But i don’t think it would be fair just to keep hindering the class.

You have to wonder if ANet has looked at the benchmarks for the DPS in this game, they could literally double the Rangers DPS with Soulbeast and it would just beat Tempest, who also incedentally has a lot of sustain like Ranger.

Axe/Torch & Mace/Shield Burning & Quickness Support Unbuffed; 2271 Power, 2210 condi damage, 98% crit chance, 100% burning duration. Sword in the build link is an Axe, Mantra of Solace as heal. Firebrand traits; Liberator’s Vow, Stalwart Speed & Quickfire.

Event farming build; Firebrand traits are Archivist of Whispers, Legendary Lore and Loremaster. Combined with Renewed Justice, you should be able to spam Tome of Justice all day long for massive AoE burning for tagging. Swap out the Sinister armor for Trailblazer and the farming sigils for something more suitable and it’s good for WvW too.

AoE stab pulse on the signet would be good and just. Lets say the 3 stacks in an area arround the ranger olus the current active effect with increased dmg.

The current SotW is designed to give ranged Chars a buff with tze increased Ferocity and an immob on the active if things get to close/ugly.
Adding stab would also tie into this functionality.

…The difference is Tempest utility grants protection from itself, while Soul Beast’s whole package does not grant protection at all. You have to grab other trait-line to get protection for Soulbeast because it doesn’t function on its own.

Well, there is 3s from Eternal Bond, when you are at 5k health….. lol

Second Skin should grant Protection itself, when you have 3 conditions or X, whatever number.

Sharpened edges should proc a lesser sharpening stone. Whoch gives your next kittens bleed. The chance is on hit. Sure the percentage chance has to be tweaked.
Thats how i would like to see sharpening edges.

I’d actually love to see Hidden Barbs getting a ‘Cast Lesser Sharpening Stone when hitting a foe under 75% health’ (I do miss the removed Keen Edge trait!)

But changing Crit Hit to Hit would be nice, just some tweaking to the numbers.

Always thought On-Crit related effects that deal conditions are weird – Critical Hits are generally related to POWER, kinda limits gear (Rampager, Viper)

I guess griever stats will be interesting (but no Expertise IIRC?)

Sharpened Edges proccing on hit would be amazing, 1-2s duration even. One of Rangers big weaknesses is retaliation since we do a ton of small hits rather than several big ones (nonewithstanding GS burst) so on hit would make SE really good because we have that ability, even at short duration. I also dislike that you need to invest in precision to use the trait, it eliminates it from a lot of possible builds since you need a large investment to make it worthwhile.

Hidden Barbs proccing Lesser Sharpening Stone would be great, Keen Edge was a top trait imo, plus they have done similar with StF and ZS in the last patch so it plays even more synergy there, core condi build with Sk (SE/HB), WS (Stf/WK), BM (ZS) and a bar full of survival skills would be killer.

Refined Toxins becomes Toxic Relationship (haha) – After swapping pets, your pet’s first attack will inflict 2 stacks of poison for 8s; While your pet’s health is above 75% health, its strikes inflict poison, 5s CD, 6s duration.

Poison MasterWhile you are above 75% health, your strikes inflict poison for 6s, 5s cd. Whenever you apply cripple, you inflict poison for 2s; Your poison damage is increased by 20%.

The 6th bonus of Rune of the Water is a small AoE Heal burst with 755 healing and 0.5 healing power coefficient, its somewhat minimal.

With Rune of the Monk, as a Druid, you get access to the 6th bonus at all times, and it’s not dependant on healing skill, so any CAF skills will get the 10% bonus, as will the glyphs in CAF form and any other form of healing source.

I actually like Rune of the Water too, the extra boon duration and (6) bonus is significant if you are using a low CD heal like traited WHaO. Not so much for outright healing.

If you take into account the outgoing healing modifiers and decent healing power (1400), combined with Cultivated Synergy and Glyph of Rejuvenation, you have a 11085 allied heal outside of CAF and in CAF it’s 16079, if you pop GoE while inside CAF 1st, then it’s 20098. At the end of the day, the water rune accounts for [755 + (0.5 * 1400) * 1.4] 2037 of this, which is a bit better than 10% of the burst, though, if you had monk runes instead, this healing would be 9694 ouside CAF, 15034 inside CAF and 18793 with GoE 1st.

So, for outright healing the Monk Rune wins every time.

Make it no cast time with a stun break too.

Actually, I’d prefer they put Stability share on Brutish Seals in addition to the Fury, it would make all signets so much better and a full signet build would be pretty great.

They should also add a signet heal skill and elite if they were feeling creative, we are the only signet using class that only has 4.

If they take 1/4s off the cast time for Leading Swipe and Serpent Stab (down to 1/4s), take 2s off the CD for Double Arc (down to 6s), put an evade on Instinctive Engage and take 1/4s off it’s cast time (down to 1/2s), I’d play Dagger Hybrid/cRanger for sure.

Small daze on double arc would be neat too.
It would give this skill some utility than just plain condi dmg.

Actually, I’d like to see the evade on Double Arc and the daze on Instinctive Engage. It would be a fantastic weapon then.

Yeah, Poison Master is not masterful at all. Take a look at Potent Poison on Thief for a good example of a GM poison trait.

Increased poison duration. Poison deals increased damage. Other Deadly Arts traits apply additional poison stacks.

Damage Increase: 33%
Duration Increase: 33%
Additional Poison Stacks: 1

I think if you remove the ICD and make the duration 2s, then it may be on par with PP.

It would then make Sword a better hybrid weapon, Trapper’s Expertise gets some nice synergy, OH Dagger and SB become better, Barrage and Muddy Terrain are awesome, although MT is competing for WK, I’d be running Superior Sigil of Incapacitation on my SB for sure.

well to be honst thief is more adps class then ranger atm but ranger has much more durabillity so its kind of trade off iguss and iknow that daredevil is batter then dead eye so idont know .. for me the most annoing part of soulbeast is the animations ..
but yeha dagger should get more boost but we ill see and thief dagger is adps wepon while soul beast dagger is like condi wepon i guss

Durability? Thief has 5+ dodges, a 15 sec cd stunbreak that blocks and knocks down, 3 teleports, and stealth. Dodge removes snares and roots.

So tell me again how in hell a ranger is more durable with his measly 2 dodges and a 1 minute cd on signet of stone.

Stoneform (5s immunity), Natural Vigor (endurance regen), Soften the Fall/WK/TU/ un-cleansable Slow, Companion’s Defense (prot on dodge), Shared Anguish (60s cd CC immunity), Rugged Growth (regen on prot), WK (condi removal), Unstoppable Union (10s stunbreak, unblockable), Second Skin (-33% condi damage with prot), Eternal Bond (Killing blow immunity, heal, prot), Unflinching Fortitude (35s stunbreak, 4s immunity), Defy Pain x 2 (3s Immunity), Spiritual Reprieve (heal, resistance) SoS (6s immunity), LR (stunbreak, evade, vigor), QZ (stunbreak, super speed), GS (evade on AA, 3s block) S/D (3 evades) or S/A for reflect.

That’s one build and you can run Valkyrie/cavaliers armor with 3200 armor and 20k health and still output huge damage with Remorseless/intelligence sigils. Pretty durable man.

If you like DPS and/or complex rotations, play the ele. Everything else, play Ranger.

If you throw a 2nd trap, the first trap is removed. You’ve to rewrite the whole teapping system for ammunition on traps

Not necessarily, as long as the CD between charges is around 30-50% CD of a charge CD, it’s fine. Allows for you to lay a trap immediately after one has triggered but if you panic or kitten play, then you lose a trap.

I used to disagree with FH being baseline for warrior, but now after playing it a lot more, I have come around and it definitely suits the class as a baseline.

Scourge Synergy

There are some really nice synergies with Scourge I have been finding with my theory crafting lately, one I am really excited about is Demonic Lore and the Sigil of Torment, I had been running Earth on my OH Dagger, but I think my Torch will get Torment and for PvE, Demonic Lore will be great for AoE torment and burning. The other one I am liking is Terrifying Descent, Terror, Demonic Lore and Garish Pillar. That looks pretty nice, if you are not using Corruptions that is. Although, if you load up on Corruptions and use Nefarious Favor, it’s pretty great too.

What synergies are you guys excited for?
