i went zerk rings, celestial accessories, and celestial amulet. If you feel you need toughness then use Knight or Rabid armor.

While I think the extra build focus is good, you might consider trying out a GS variation. GS is currently very popular in pvp. You’d probably want to trait GS as well which would force your build to change some. However, when IC only costs 15 in December it will be an eaiser adjustment.
Another thing to note on clone spam builds is the behavior of the clones. We only have one clone type that will approach your target and that’s the sword clone. All other clones will sit back at a distance based on the range of their weapon. This makes carrying a sword on clone spam builds very helpful.
http://intothemists.com/
What will you be doing? Whatever build you end up going with, I suggest taking a GS in your bag along with you. Give it a try. I find it’s superior in almost every situation to the staff. Also for WvW, Prismatic Understanding and Debilitating Dissipation + Deceptive Evasion is awesome.

http://intothemists.com/
Hmm… I like the update. The old build was not nearly focused enough. Essentially, you’re going with a Duelist condition build. With 20 in Illusions your build will get a nice buff with IC at 15 in december.
I’m not so sure about the Chaotic Interruption, Mantra of Distraction, and Nightmare Runes though. If you had Perplexity runes then it might be somewhat justified. Even so… perplexity is designed for the warrior… as intended by the game designers I’m sure.
http://intothemists.com/
Mimic
Last thought. This skill is for almost all intents and purposes just not working, but is causing some broken behavior with certain bosses. I would like to replace it with a complete redesign and am open to discussion on that as well.
I definitely would agree that mimic is tough to use. Similar to recharging mantras you simply sit there and do nothing. I would prefer to see Mimic synergize better with other skills. Hmm… why not have it produce a clone or phantasm that mimics the absorbed spell on that first projectile block? The illusion will then use that spell to attack your opponent.

What is your main class? Concerning the mesmer, you will never be able to mindlessly burn down mobs as easy as a necro can or blindly tank them as easily as a guardian. Mesmers are a more active class and requires more movement to maximize your potential. Also, I would not consider mesmer to be the most optimal class for pve. Without its utility you’d be better off with a warrior. That said, I think mesmer is far more fun to play than a warrior and fun is the whole point of playing a game. In contrast, mesmer excels at pvp and does quite well in wvw.
Taking those things into account will help you gain perspective on what the mesmer is capable of. Also, it’s hard compare a mesmer’s potential to other classes until you hit at least 40. It’s preferable that you hit 80 first or at least test it out in hotm.
http://intothemists.com/
Do people not run glamour sceptor/ torch or focus + staff anymore? You can either trait for focus to reflect, or you can trait for sceptor to give you 200 extra condition damage. With full stacks, guard leech, and good gear, you can drop your glamour fields with up to 2400 condition damage, then switch to staff and kite/ chaos storm and such. The confusion ticks are still very high despite the confusion changes.
If they reverted the Confusing Enchantments nerf then confusion glam builds would be slightly viable.
http://intothemists.com/
Do u play a mesmer?
http://intothemists.com/
I was kind of expecting to see Critical Infusion and Prismatic Understanding toned down also, but I guess there’s still time for that.
Why on earth would you want that.

Confounding Suggestions.. Ugh. I’d rather the stun. The daze duration synergizes beautifully with Runes of the Mesmer (which also needs a buff)
Yep, i knew you wouldn’t like that. Perhaps it’s an addition rather than a switch.
http://intothemists.com/
yep, i approve of all the changes. I like the daze duration increase as well. My current builds will get buffed from the Chaotic Transference increase as well.
http://intothemists.com/
I have a few suggestions to make :
- Make our phantasms/illusions alive after the target they use to be produced has been killed. That’s make the “Phantasm Haste” nerf less painful for people who don’t want to play shatter.
Ugh… I don’t want to have to look after pets like Rangers and Necros do. I love the expendability of our illusions.
- Raise confusion damage or let us stack confusion more easily than today.
My suggestion here is to make it a trait. Perhaps just switch the Master of Misdirection from a duration to damage increase. Essentially, we should have to pay for the increase, but it should be available. Such effectiveness for confusion should be unique to memsers as well. Then add a sigil that increases confusion duration.
- Mantra can be target-able with aoe effects (like Chaos Storm)…
Mantras simply need a complete overhaul.
I do not not want to compare my class to others. I just want to find back my identity as a Mesmer. Do I am the only one with this feeling ????
No, everyone’s been frustrated for a while, but we just make the best of it : /
Many of us refuse to admit defeat. We occasionally will take a stab at confusion builds again only to find them in the same pitiful state that no amount of theory crafting will fix.

Sorry, I’d be more active in this guild if I wasn’t already in a guild. Do we have a schedule anywhere I can check for events? I’d rather just show up at events when I’m able because I can’t rep omfg more than a few hours a week due to guild rules…

There’s a few things I’d like to point out. Aside from IP, I’ve never understood how people use shatter verse a zerg. Clones simply don’t survive long enough. Clone-death builds are the sure-fire way to go here imo. Plus, IP requires you to be within the enemy zerg.
As for GS verse Staff, GS is, without a doubt, our best aoe option. Here are the skills:
GS 1: hits 3 targets via pierce immediately
GS 2: hits 4 targets for damage and vuln and produces a clone on site of impact!
GS 3: hits 5 targets for damage and boon rip from any angle!
GS 4: hits whoever (X amount) the heck is in his way and cripples
GS 5: hits X number of targets in front of you for damage and knockback
Staff 1: hits 2 targets for damage and a condition in a delayed manner
Staff 2: produces a clone
Staff 3: hits 1 per attack
Staff 4: can apply condition if hit
Staff 5: hits 5 targets and can continue hitting if opponents stay on field
I don’t deny that Chaos Storm is good. Traited you can dump it every 28 seconds. However, the CD is still very high and it’s the only spell for staff that can hit multiple targets with any certainty. You could argue that every GS spell has a good degree of certainty that it will hit.
If you’re looking to use damage fields in ZvZ you may as well use a necro.

Every mesmer fight is epic : D
I was doing the WvW JPs last night and got into a 1v5 TC at the start of one of the BL JPs. We fought for a good 20 minutes. I was able to kill one of them every few minutes by using terrain, knockbacks, and splitting them up into smaller groups. They kept coming back though for some reason…
Mesmers work great in these outnumbered fights due to our incredible mobility and damage avoidance. This doesn’t translate as easily from pvp to wvw for the thief. Granted, it’s always best to keep in mind that one could never get away with these kind of outnumbered fights in high level tpvp or in WvW against high level tpvp players I run into these guys occasionally in WvW and am thrilled just to win a 1v1. I ran into one last night in a ZvZvZ melee. I attacked a engi that broke off from the gigantic mob melee (roughly 150 players). I got him down to 20% but he beat me with those darn conditions. He didn’t spike me though… Right before he did he got flattened by my party members who eventually caught up to me.
http://intothemists.com/
If you’re in WvW during high server traffic then you will experience the slow down and speed up of skills. This seems to impact the duration of skills as well.

I personally would suggest taking Greatsword, even with Rabid gear. As long as you take sharper images it will be worth it. Depending on what you like to do and where your traits go sets up your other weapon set.

I switched back to my mesmer for the last few days and the contrast was pretty stark on how easily I could survive and how effective I was.

While the sword is easily our best weapon for nearly every setting it’s best to play however you want to play.
That said, I avoided sword as well at first because it didn’t make sense to me to go melee with a clothe class. I played Staff + Scepter/Focus for a long time. After the confusion nerf and various related nerfs I tried branching out, looking for alternative builds in hotm. After you use sword for a while you will get more comfortable with it. Also, combining sword usage with protection and aegis is very helpful.
http://intothemists.com/
I am using GS + SW/X, where X is focus/sword/pistol depending on the mood.
pretty much this
http://intothemists.com/
Butter, it sounds more like you need to become familiar with the memser class in a pvp environment. Go to http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Heart_of_the_Mists and try crafting your own builds for a while. If you find something that works, make an account here http://intothemists.com/ and save it for later. The 8v8 spvp is a decent WvW litmus test.
What I do when I build craft is I first start with a one trait or skill that I focus on. Something I like or know works well for WvW or PvP. I then branch out from there picking skills, traits, and weapons that work well with that starting point. I then test the build out in hotm verse the profession NPCs. If it shows no problems I take it in to spvp.
It’s also worth while to try to most popular builds in spvp to see if you’re missing out on any of our more powerful abilities.
http://intothemists.com/
Looks like a good start. Don’t forget Energy Sigils if you go DE. Focus is good times in WvW, especially in Hills Keep defense. I also highly suggest Guard Killer WxP upgrade. Being able to solo camps quickly is very useful and killing guards brings more wxp.

is what I run. It’s a tried and tested platform that has stood up to everything SoR has thrown at it. I had 25 stacks on my precision sigil last for most of last night while not hesitating to dive into any zerg or tangle with any roamers.

Solo Q is a strange beast. I do find that running mesmer allows us to “fill in” whereever there’s need so it’s a great class for unstructured treams.
http://intothemists.com/
I want a Fan as well.
Another weapon that might be cool for magic casters would be to have a Familiar. For a Familiar weapon, then animal would likely be small like a cat, bird, ferret, bat, or snake. When “stowed” they would be riding on your shoulder or arm. When in combat they’d be running or flying along side you. Unlike a Ranger pet, your Familiar is simply a weapon and its skills would be where the weapon skills would be. Some familiars could be 2H weapons while others could be 1H.
http://intothemists.com/
Work on your build for an hour or two in hotm each week. Consider what did and didn’t work in the dungeons you ran that week.
Speaking from experience for pve, stay far away from confusion. Also, conditions in general are weak. I run with Knights gear due to WvW and it works great in high level Fractals. For most other dungeons you can get away with Berserker gear.
Also, while it’s a not a must, a traited focus is very helpful in fractals and dungeons. Other types of reflection such as Feedback and Mirror (and Mimic occasionally) also help a lot. If your party doesn’t have a guardian then you will be, quite literally, the last line of reflective defense.

Other than Spiteful Spirit, why go into the Spite tree at all for a DS WvW build? What about this build (0/20/0/20/30) http://intothemists.com/guides/1472-necro_debuff . It has both DS and Wells matched with chill.
http://intothemists.com/
I played my necro in wvw last night both in zerg and roaming. I played a 0/10/30/30/0 build with marks, wells, and siphon traited with Staff + Dagger/Dagger. I did okay in the zerg, but couldn’t roam with a kitten . Heck, even breaking off the zerg just to pickup some supply was a perilous task. I was running with around 1900 toughness and lots of healing capability. I don’t understand why I was dying so quickly.
Is there a good necro build that suits both zerg and roam play or am I just spoiled by my mesmer’s mobility and stealth? A guildy of mine was saying something about using Death Shroud in some 30/0/0/0/30 (I forget where the last 10 is) build.

Here, I drew a sketch for you:
http://dosketch.com/view.php?k=ba0IzNAtKkrfGG6o84eY
That’s the type of flanking manuever I was trying to convey. It gets you out of the kill zone and kites you around. After the first pass the zergs will reform/re-stack or scatter, dependent on the competency of the commander and result of the first pass. Occasionally, both zergs go for the kill at the same time which results in a massive melee. At this point you just hold on for dear life…

sylvari with pink glow is what I went with

If i want to run the join the melee train as a Mesmer, is it possible? And what weapon/traits/gear should i go for?
WvW not PvEeeee
You won’t have the survivability needed to be in the vanguard/melee portion of the train. As others have mentioned roll with knights gear and use GS. Second set should have Sword/X. Just before a ZvZ engagement you’ll want to peel off to a flank. If you’re tier 1 or are dealing with 60+ zergs I would not bother with shattering.
Here is my current wvw build:
But I hate being the target of their melee train everytime
You might not notice but everytime the commander push it basically pull the pants of the range down for us to get kitten. We cannot follow the Zerg because it’s too hot in there, if we don’t other melee trains will be coming for us and we spend most of the time running. I hate ittt
I don’t mean backline. What I mean is that you should peal off to the side of the opposing zerg. They will hit your backline while you’re hitting their side. Honestly, there shouldn’t be a backline since range should be staggered and kiting which throws the golden 600 radius out the window. Mesmer is awesome at flanking due to our stealth and mobile nature.
http://intothemists.com/
Simply due to their stability and damage mitigation guardian and warrior are the goto commander professions. You can’t lead when you’re immobilized. Elementalists seem to do ok as well but I personally wouldn’t want to micro manage the attunements and command at the same time. That in mind, a bit of reflection is the last thing you want to be concerned with then facing off two opposing map zergs in your home garrison… That’s assuming this thread is even about wvw command builds which it doesn’t seem like it is.
http://intothemists.com/
http://intothemists.com/guides/1562-gs_prismatic_20
is my current build. It’s fairly similar to what you have. Here is how I rate it in WvW:
- Excellent small group roaming build
- Excellent scout
- Good solo (camps and 1v1). Can be beat 1v1 by a focused 1v1 lockdown build.
- 66% as effect of a tagger in ZvZ as a necro or guardian. Brings necessary zerg utilities.
For you empty minor Chaos trait I’d definitely go DD with your setup. Yes, those bleeds won’t be as effective, but aoe weakness and vuln is pretty awesome and they don’t need condi dmg.
Guard Killer wxp upgrade also works well with this build. I also took Siege Bunker, but I still need Supply Mastery 4…

http://intothemists.com/
What do you typically do in WvW? I ask because I used to used to run a very similar glam build in WvW before the confusion and staff nerfs.
If you’re doing small group roaming then I can see your build working okay mainly in a support role. If you’re running solo or with a zerg then I think you’d be better off not going into the Illusions tree unless you’re trying for a shatter build. That’s not to say that running with those weapons and utility skills won’t work. I just think your trait points could serve you better elsewhere for your gameplay style.
If… you’re looking for an aoe condi wvw zerg build then go with iZerker bleeds. Trait IC and GS to get 12s iZerkers. This also gives you 5s Mirror Blade that allows you to shatter more often in the middle of their zerg. Maaaybe go 20/20/0/0/30 with GS, Scepter/Torch, and DE. This would still allow you to trait your glams if you really wanted to or you could push those traits over to shatter traits.

I would suggest having some Cavalier in your backpack and equip when needed – this shift your high crit chance towards more crit damage instead. Keep in mind that chances are high you’ll get fury from Warriors and the actual damage will be better than the chance. This is especially good if you want an “omni-build” that can roam decently as well.
How does this make mathematical sense? The crit hit damage is directly proportional to the crit chance and power. Hence, unless you’re fearful of hitting 100% crit chance I don’t see why you’d bother stacking crit damage. Even then, I’d just stack Power before bothering with crit damage. On top of that, the only reason to take crit at all is if you’re are either maxxed out on power or need it to trigger a trait.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/Damage-Power-Precision-and-Golden-Ratios gives a good explanation regarding it.
I simply go by the Power > Precision > Crit Dmg guideline.

here’s the update to the build. http://intothemists.com/guides/1562-gs_prismatic_20.
As for combos, you can time your iZerker, Prestige, or iLeap with your glamours. The weapons I stick with are on the build: GS + Sword/Torch. Pistol is decent for 1v1, but I personally wouldn’t bother swapping on the fly because 1v1’s tend to turn into 1vX in WvW. That said, experimenting is best so certainly carry around extra weapons to try them out.
http://intothemists.com/
I use a variation of http://intothemists.com/guides/381-gs_prismatic in wvw and it works for me. It uses Knight gear with celestial trinkets and zerk rings. I occasionally switch to Confusing Enchantments on the fly verse large zergs but I’m not really sure it’s worth it on that build.
That build performs fairly well verse zergs, well for group roaming, and fairly well for solo roaming. The condi builds in wvw pretty much require perplexity runes to be viable which forces you to use Focus or accept being slow. I can’t stand being slow because I like to shift my role from solo to group to zerg on the fly. If I remember, I’ll post a more current version of my build later tonight.

Seems to me it would be easier to create a new thread in each subforum titled, “Bugs in patch XYZ”, then make each group responsible for patrolling their appropriate subforum and self-prioritizing.
oh gawd… I should think most of ANet’s QA staff would up and walk out if this were the process. Let’s just help Tyler here out and improve our process at delivering mesmer bugs to them since we are the ones who (typically) stand to benefit.
http://intothemists.com/
It’s really strict. I think they also changed it so that it can’t effect an opponent’s pet so you might waste it completely if you accidentally select a minion. What they need to do is make it so it ALWAYS cleanses 3 conditions no matter what. Also, if you’re not targeting anyone it should just pick the closest opponent. For a 45 second CD you simply can’t afford for a skill to fizzle like that.
http://intothemists.com/
